View 1 RepliesI can't install Windows 7 (or Vista) on this hard drive. XP and XP 64bit install with no problems. When installing Windows 7 it won't reboot. It gets to the "Starting Windows" screen and hangs there.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOriginally got message - Disk read error occurred press ctl alt del to restart. Then tried plugging this drive using a USB connector into my desktop PC to see if I could run some chkdsk. Then my desktop PC displayed messages telling me my firewall and virus software had been turned off and the computer crashed. ROOTKIT? So I was left with 2 drives not working. I re installed windows on desktop but using ISO on flash drive BUT can't on the 500GB Hitachi HTS545050B9SA00 for some reason. Windows setup loaded and Deleted old partitions and formatted. When I tried to install, it froze. It now just boots up with a windows loading screen and I'm also unable to boot from flash drive as it freezes. This is on a Sony Vaio VPCEB4E4E.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 laptops - the hard drive for one of them is now suddenly asking me for a password.I never set any password on it
1. I set the BIOS password on one laptop (which has a dual boot)
2. I made a backup image of the Windows OS on an external drive using that dual-booted machine
3. I then installed that backed-up image on the other harddrive using the same machine - and that caused the password....
OK, I have an ASUS P5k Pro with the latest BIOS installed with Window 7 Pro 64 BIT. I just bought 2 SATA 1T Hitachi drives (HDS7210CLA332). All sata drives are set o IDE in the BIOS.
At first I added the two drives to my existing Windows 7 installation and all seemed fine, but I did notice that it installed some sort of driver, but couldn't figure out what it was. The drives were recognized after I did a reboot. (The same thing happen in XP SP3 as well.)
I decided to install windows 7 on one of the new drives (after all it was newer and faster), I partition the harddrive to about 500 megs, formatted the partition using window 7 setup (booting up from the DVD), the OS installed, I then let Window 7 do the updates, was forced to reboot, I then get an error that it couldn't find a bootable drive on boot up.
So I reran windows setup tried recover to fix the drive, same error, so went to reinstall window 7 again, this time it told me it could not install the drive on the partion.
So, rebooted back with my original Win7 installation and all was fine with the drives as extra drives in my system.
Anyone have any ideas?
I'm after an app that can either encrypt my storage harddrives or password them with an extremely high security status. If that make sense
What i want to be able to do is set my drives so i can lock them from access whenever i'm out or away from my machine, but because i'm extremely consistent in popping out for 10 mins or just leaving the machine whilst i do other things i'll need a way of locking it that doesn't take hours to lock and hours to unlock. I also want it to be locked so if someone was to reinstall the OS, remove the program that is being used or put the HDD in another pc it still won't be accessible.
Any ideas?
I just recently bought a new system and while installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64, I noticed that the hard drive was only using 2tb's of space. After some checking I found out the window's will only be able to use 2tb's unless I use the Hitachi's disk management tool to open the additional 1tb. Now the problem I am having is that the tool notes I need to convert the drive from MBR Disk to GPT Disk.
I was found several ways of doing this but none give me any information on how to do this if the drive itself is the primary boot drive for the PC. Unfortunately I don't have another hard drive or PC to throw the new one in just for the time being (I am assuming that this is one way to resolve this).Basically it doesn't let me convert the hard drive to GPT unless it is empty (again, I am assuming the OS needs to be gone as well).
I have a Hitachi HTS545050B9A300 500gb HDD and was wondering If I am able to use the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test software with my x64 processor? I know that it says it is only compatible with an x86 architecture, but what are my alternatives besides a CHKDSK?

View 9 Replies View RelatedA random times, often not long after startup/wakeup my hard drive appears to freeze. The hard drive light lights up solid, any programs accessing the drive freeze and resource monitor says the disk is "100% active" yet also says "0kb disk I/O" is occuring. After a couple of minutes it fixes itself and anything ive attempted to do during the time it was frozen all happens really quickly. The nature of the problem makes me believe its the hard drive at fault, but its smart readings are fine and ive ran the dell diagnostic tool that came with the laptop without finding any problems. Ive also done the ususal routine of updating drivers and the BIOS etc.
Specs:
Dell XPS L502x
Intel core i7 2ghz (2630 i think)
8gb ram
Nvidia GT 540m
Toshiba MK6461GSGY 640gb HDD
My friend's laptop (Acer Aspire One 722 - Windows 7 x64) has been shut down after opening an email and Windows never started up again. When you attempt to start up the windows, it stays the black screen and says "No bootable Device Found"! I inserted Windows Live Disk and loaded it (Windows XP Mini - Golden Edition). When I went to "My Computer", it did not show any local drive. I went to "Disk Management" and in there, there was also no unallocated or allocated space. I even removed the HDD and plugged it back in. No thing happened. Then I removed the RAM card and inserted it back. Again, nothing happened! By the way, HDD had movements when laptop was on (I had removed the beneath panel).I inserted Windows 7 Disk to install a fresh Windows 7. But when you get to the part where it asks you to choose the partition to install the operating Sustem, it shows one unallocated drive with 0 (Zero) capacity! The options to Delete and format are disable. Only the option "New" is active and it gives you (0) bite to partition!
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy motherboard crapped out on my HP dv6000 a week ago and so I decided it was time to upgrade. I just ordered a new dell latitude e6410 so I'm really excited!
Anyway, my dv6000 will not charge and is completely dead. I am trying to figure out the easiest and most economically sound way to get everything off my hard drive and on to my new machine.
So one of my friend's laptop had been acting slow, and I took a look at it and I cleard out some applications but it was still going bad. it turns out the hard drive had to be replaced, so he sent it in under warranty. I reinstalled Norton 360 and Office for him, and helped him reinstall some of his games. Then i found out it was acting slow again, and was practically unusable for gaming! He's coming down this weekend, and I plan to take another hack at it. But I don't know what the cause would be. it's a new hard drive with a new factory image. I suspect that the new hard drive might be faulty, but I don't know how to test it. I do have some spare hard drives around that I could install, but I'd like kto know what testing processes or programs I can use to better diagnose the problem.
