I have a Seagate ST9833A 75 GB hard drive, which I took to a friend's to copy some files. After coming back to my computer, all my folders are missing! When I checked with RECUVA, it shows them as .ink files, which when I recover avast stop me by reporting as a Trojan(LNKBADDST-AC). When I tried typing the address in the bar, It does go to the folder, but sadly Now I can't delete any of them to save space! Can i recover the folders?
View 1 RepliesThe icon for my USB External Hard Drive (labeled as USBEXT) is messed up. In the Send To context menu, as well as in the Computer folder, and the sidebar of Windows Explorer, it shows up as if the proper icon is missing?
Anyone know of a possible solution? Just the default drive icon next to the label would be nice but I'm also wondering how I could customize all of the icons in Windows 7 for hard drives, folders, music files, etc. I remember there were programs that did such things in previous versions of Windows and didn't know which of them, if any, would work with Windows 7 (Build 7077).
until recently I had a ubuntu/Windows 7 dual boot. i got a laptop with ubuntu so i decided to remove it from my pc. after that i had tremendous problems as grub decided to delete my partition table. anyway i got that fixed.so i have 3 hdd's in my pc. 1x 500gb sata, 1x 500gb ide & 1x 1tb sata. i did a fresh install after my boot problem, everything was fine again until today. i installed windows on drive c: on my 500gb sata hdd. the 1tb sata is for data, the ide will be used as a network hdd.so as i turned on my pc today, it didnt boot and just showed a prompt. so i booted from another drive. to my surprise i got a grub command line despite me uninstalling it and doing a fresh install.anyway i booted into the recovery dvd, did startup repair without sucess. so i looked around cmd to find that now my windows partition got assigned the drive letter.i dont know if i recall correctly but i think my teacher said that Windows 7 can only boot from c:. so i think that this is basically my problem.how do i get drive d: to show up as c: again? please npte that i CANNOT boot into windows

I was able to get some of it back, but I am still having problems getting full control of the drive. I am seeing a pad lock on the first tier of folders. How do I remove that padlock showing?

I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. It is all free space except for those programs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, I have a i7 2600K system with a solid state disk as the boot drive, and an older (c2008) Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB drive as the data drive for programs (that I deem as not worthy of the quick load times). The hard drive has given me some errors over time, and I bought a hard disk to replace it (a Hitachi 1TB). The issue I'm having is that the fact that Windows 7 puts a small (100MB) partition on the F3, and for some reason, even though I'm running Acronis 2012, it doesn't seem to be able to clone the F3 over to the Hitachi. I've also tried Drive XML, and for my 2 hour wait, I only managed to acquire a boot error. Thankfully, I've not done anything rash to destroy the data on the F3, but given the fact that I've seen corrupted files in Steam from that drive, I'm not will to trust it long term with my data. I really need to get the data onto that Hitachi, though... Anyone have any advice for upgrading the HDD in a SSD/HDD system? I don't really feel like it should be so hard, especially if I've bought Acronis True Image, but maybe they haven't designed their product to handle this scenario quite yet?

Turning my computer PC on today, all I got was a blue HP invent screen with setup, boot menu, system recovery, and system diagnosis, and I could not get past it. I entered the BIOS and figured out that the hard drive was listed as "not installed." Pretty sure that is the main problem.I tried a system restore (with the Windows 7 install disc), but I guess the computer couldn't read the hard drive enough to enter safe mode (I tried restarting and F8ing several times). I put in an external hard drive, and the BIOS read it; however, windows does not allow you to partition an OS on a hard drive.

It's a Samsung 1TB drive. I also have a 64 Solid-state drive in there as my primary hard drive that Windows was installed on and a couple of programs are installed on. My storage disk (the 1TB disk) is for all my music/films etc. Whenever I drag and drop a file into the Samsung hard-drive - it copies it rather than moves it instantly.When I had a laptop, I had 3 external hard drives and this is the way it copied files onto them.how I can get the internal drive to stop acting like an external drive?

i stupidly downloaded imesh and my mcaffee detected the trojan but it doesnt detect it as a threat which is so confusing because isnt mcafee is suppost to be a security software...? anyway i downloaded other softwares like spybot, super anti spyware emisoft, avg, malwarebytes and all kinds of other ones but they dont detect anyting! i finally downloaded trojan remover 6.8.2 and it renamed the file or quarantied it or something and i shred those but how am i sure that its wiped off my pc? i shred some files named imesh and idk what else but i just want to make sure my computer is safe!
View 9 Replies View RelatedYesterday I was attacked by the s.m.a.r.t. trojan which has "hijacked" my files and hid them. I have followed the recommendation from Microsoft Answers, Security Essentials[URL] but it is not working. I got my desktop icons to show up but the screen is still black and I cannot see anything when I click the start button. It was suggested that I open up a new window in task manager, but when I click on Task Manager it reverts back to the fake virus scanner (S.M.A.R.T. HDD). I typed in "cmd" on the search bar, which opened up a dos prompt. I then proceeded to type in the following:
CD/ then hit enter
ATTRIB -H -R -S /S /D then hit enter
The prompt began to scroll through numerous files rapidly, but each line was preceeded by "access denied". So, when it finished, nothing was accomplished, as far as I know. I have not rebooted the PC yet. Any suggestion? I don't know if this was the incorrect thing to do, but, before I entered those dos commands I ran a copy of Windows Defender Offline Beta from disk. It said that it removed numerous trojans, but I fear that it only angered it. I will probably reformat my c:\ drive, b ut i want to gbet some files off of it prior to doing so.

View 3 Replies View Relatedmake a dualboot comp by adding windows XP to a new partition. I created the new partition with 20gb. (From the 500 of my actual harddrive)But before I actually installed on that, I got distracted with a second harddrive that my dad got(for no reason). It had a full copy of Windows XP backed up on it from another computer, so I figured I would just use that for the dualboot. I plugged it in (wired the same way as my old harddrive, but different data slot), restarted, checked the harddrive in explorer - all the data was there / reading correctly / etc, and I used 'easyBCD' to add the new harddrive to the boot list.(Which, of course, crashes if I try to start it. I just wanted to see what it would do). For a reason I can't remember, I unplugged the second harddrive for a bit, started the computer on accident (I don't know if anything loaded before I shut it off), and then when I plugged it back in.Windows 7 would not launch. It goes to a DOS-like window, except it's just a flashing _ and it never does anything even after a few minutes. XP didn't work still.. so I decided to reinstall XP (as I couldn't tell which harddrive was which on the list, I unplugged the main harddrive while installing onto the new).. and when I did this.. it formatted and installed fully... then restarted.. then restarted.. and restarted.. and just kept restarting, never showing any thing past the manufacturer logo/BIOS load-button-message-thing. So, I then try to use my 3-disk Windows7Recovery disk(burned myself with a program apparently included by the manufacturer.) It installed fully, appearing to work.. but when I launched it, it said "Invalid Partition Table" and wouldn't boot past that. When I insert my driver installer disk, it gives me a basic DOS window thing. dir A: shows the files in the disk. dir B: for some reason shows the same. C: says "Error reading from drive C: DOS area: general failure". All other letter:'s just say "invalid drive". (I'm doing this with both harddrives in.) I attempted connecting the harddrives to an old computer, but it gave an error for both. (It detected the harddrives, but said it had an error reading from it. Windows Explorer asked me to format it... {i'm willing to format one of the drives if anybody thinks it will help, but the old harddrive has data I'd prefer not to lose.} ) Looking on google, I saw several problems that all have similar problems (less overdescripptive than I am though) but none of the fixes suggested worked for me. Also - as I have two different with different errors, I only need to make one of them work.)Also - my other available computer has a CD burner / floppy drive if either are required. I also have several USB's. The computer can boot from USB's and CD's (tested), and I could easily take the floppy thingy and connect it to the computer.also - this computer is probably still under warranty unless unscrewing the hard drive voids it. .. does that count as modification of the computer?

There is no symbol on the taskbar, and the pc doesn't seem to even recognise the speakers to be there, although i think it recognises the sound card. Briefly challenged this before when i had time, and tried to download a driver update/replacement, but this wouldn't work.Any ideas on how to get the sound back? (the same also happened to my webcam over a year ago, but im not so bothered about that, but the lack of sound is frustrating at the best of times)if s the original thread when i lost the sound, and you can see from my posts where i lost it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have program that tells me that i have lots of bad trojans such as Trojan.win32/agent trojan-spy etc. Program is called Advanced system care 6 pro. I installed it today and when I ran scan it said scanning trojan.win32/agent trojan.win32/vunto trojan-spy backdoor.fraud and many other bad stuff but the most interesting thing is it doesn't find them as harmful software. I have also noticed my system loads slowly after welcome screen I get black screen and wait for approximately 15-30 secs to load desktop and none of my antiviruses are able to find it they seem to be stuck on one folder when they scan because the folder that they scanned doesn't change i waited for hours and folder was same. Programs i use are SUPERAntispyware trial, Malwarebytes free, avast! internet security pro none of them find the trojan horse. I ran scan in safe mode and I found some trojans but the software didn't scan any further than folder c:windows....amd64(not sure about whole path). I waited for hours and it still didn't change.After program advanced system care 6 made scan it didn't find them as malware I did delete them but they are not deleted I didn't find any suspicious programs in task manager I have screen shoots to show you.

This led me to start scanning my computer with several different anti virus programs, and StopZilla is the only program that found this on my machine, which I believe, because whoever hacked me had to have a way to get into my accounts and has changed pw's on both my email and Facebook on me. Facebook locked my account for me, but hotmail says they can do nothing, because if he or she is that good they will just hack back in? Wow, talk about a lack of security. He seems to have fixed the trojan but now im having a problem with PC not recognizing the network adapter for a few minutes when switched on and when awakened from sleep mode. I have since found out that combofix was used to remove the trojan.

Microsoft Security Essentials partially removed it so I burned Microsoft Defender to a disc and booted my computer from the disc. Defender ran and removed the trojan successfully. Unfortunately, when I tried to reboot my computer to Winows normally it wouldnt. The Acer logo appers like normal but the next screen is a black screen with blinking cursor. It does nothing.I am able to access the BIOS menu with DEL.I am able to access the boot device menu with F12. I'm currently booting from the hard drive.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago I tried to install Cyberlink Power DVD 10.I kept getting error message 1625,this installation not allowed due to system policy. I've gotten conflicting solutions and still no luck. As of today I tried messing with the registry and local policies etc...long story short, I cannot get past my "Starting Windows" window. It powers down, then powers back up and gives me the options of 'start windows normally' or 'repairs'. It will not start normally nor can it repair the problem. Have I done something heinous and can it be reversed? Is there a way to get it into safe mode, back to my desktop so I can restore the backed up registry.
