Generic Or OEM Drivers For The Machine
Nov 14, 2012
When I check for latest drivers on the toshiba website, it says that I have the latest ones installed however when I check intel and realtek, they have newer version generic drivers. At the moment my sound and graphics are very laggy and distort quite often when listening to music or watching films.Should I update the drivers with the generic ones or just stick to the OEM toshiba ones?

I've read here that having the Device instance Path - Device instance ID is usfull n finding drivers, but having no luck, this is mine:
USBVID_05E1&PID_0B01_123456789AC
It was a generic cam with memory/sound activation feature, which came with no driver disk.

If you have a laptop and have a problem getting the built in SD / MMC card reader to work then I've found the "generic" one from the Twinhead german site does OK. For X-64 use the Vista driver. Expanding the zip file will give you the 32 and 64 bit drivers.
The most "Generic" drivers seem to come from the F11Y laptop series but choose from other models if this doesn't work.
Most of these drivers are pretty "Generic" so should work with a huge amount of hardware irrespective of your actual model.
HP/DELL/COMPAQ owners are usually pretty lucky as the manufacturers sites are pretty OK. It's when you buy essentially an unknown brand of laptop where you can't find the "manufacturers" site as the laptop is badged under a different name. From the link just click on the Notebook model and get the drivers.
No stupid registration or "Let's scan your computer to see what driver you need" -- and then you are re-directed to a PAY service or more adware nonsense -- I HATE those sites --what if I'm using a different computer to get the driver than the one I install it on.

I replaced an XP machine with a Win7 machine. When I VPN into our 10 network I can't get to any 192.168 addresses. The XP machine works fine only the Win7 doesn't. I looked at a lot of settings but I can't find anything out of sorts.

I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine. Permissions on the XP that is hosting the database is set to allow everyone. And all the XP machines can access it at the same time.

ive got 2 computers hooked up to a router by Ethernet sharing an internet connection, the internet connection works fine for both computers. i would like to share documents also between the computers
-one is a windows xp 32
-one is a windows 7 64
ive set up many networks in the past with a bunch of xp machines without any trouble but now i am having trouble my first step was on the windows 7 machine, i went to control panel -> network and sharing center -> setup a connection or network -> set up a new network this is where i believe i am making a mistake of some kind, it seems that the windows 7 machine is assuming that i want to set up the network wirelessly, when it is connected to the router via Ethernet. it simply brings me to a screen that says choose the wireless router or access point you want to configure, and hangs there with a greyed out next button everything seems to be going fine on the xp machine, i created a new network called "share bear", told it that the computer connects through a residential gateway, enabled file and printer sharing, rebooted the machine, and confirmed that there was a new folder in the network places for shared documents..i went back to the windows 7 machine where it was still hanging, rebooted it, looked for the new network in network and sharing center and it wasn't there, i tried again to "set up a new network" on the windows 7 machine with the same hanging screen

I have a small three PC home network. Two PC are running Windows 7 and one running Vista.
All three machines have the same homegroup settings. The ability to view machines on the network is very patchy. One machine can see the others, while another machine can only see one other machine. Sometimes machines cannot see any others on the network.
All machines are connected wirelessly with strong signals through a BT 2700HGV Business Hub router. All of the machines can access the Internet without problems.
All machines run Eset Smart Security with the Windows firewall is turned off.
Any advice to create a stable network would be appreciated.

Installing W7 using an old HDD on an old machine to install W7 on a new SSD to be used on a new machine.I'm currently using this old machine from '09 and its performance levels have died down a lot. I bought all the components to build a new machine except I didn't want to spend extra money on another HDD to install the OS on my new 180GB Intel SSD. So basically, I want to use the HDD from my old computer, install W7 onto the SSD, then transfer the drive to my new computer, and use it on the machine and just reinstall all my other files.

I have the generic icons on my desktop. I have searched and found a few "fixes", but none seem to work for me.(I need to comment here that my computer is different from all others in the world")I am going to try to put a method that is supposed to fix this problem, but is does not work. When I get the task manager screen it has something like "C:system32 ame" that I have to leave, it will not go away. When I enter the information it does nothing.Well looking at the situation I want to know that all the icons of the application are turned in to generic icon or all the icons which are associated with Microsoft. I am providing following solution to rebuild Icon Cache Database. Well you have to run this command on command prompt of your system. Copy paste the following command and see the results. To launch the command prompt you have to click on the Start menu and enter CMD in the Run and press enter.

One of my application icons (3DS Max 2012) has gone generic. This is true for the original application and its shortcut. Double clicking still opens the app; I just wonder why this is happening? (Let me stress that I'm talking about the App.exe itself, and not the files created by the program.)

The Generic PnP Monitor driver is flapping like there is something wrong with the monitor. It keeps trying to redisover the monitor and blanks out the screen every 30 seconds or so. Very irritating. I am running a Westinghouse LCM-22w3 22" HD monitor through a Belkin KVM Switch. This does not occur on my XP machine or my Linux server only Windows 7.

I know how to
1. Find out how much memory is being used by each Svchost
2. Find out what processes are running under each Svchost
3. Identify the Process ID (PID) for each Svchost
If a Svchost has multiple processes running under it how do I find out how much memory each of those processes under a generic svchost is using?
1. Click on the Windows world ball
2. Type "command prompt"
3. Right click on "command prompt" and run as Adminstrator
4. At the command prompt first type in "tasklist /svc". This will give you the "Image Name" "PID" and "Process(s)" for each PID (Product Identification Number)
5.Follow the method described below for each Process that you want to isolate.
Creating an Isolated Process. What this method really does is modify one of the registry parameters for the service in question from a shared process to an isolated process. The command syntax is fairly straightforward and uses the sc config command set: sc config <service name> type= own. So for Windows Updates (wuauserv), the command would be: sc config wuauserv type= own. Note that there is a space between the '=' and 'own' - you must insert that space.
6. Reboot
7. Now repeat steps 1 - 4 below the double dotted line above
8. Verify that the "Process" that you wanted to isolate has its own PID
9. Type in Tasklist /FI "PID eq xxxx". Where "xxxx" is the number of the PID that you just isolated.Make sure to type in the quotes as indicated.
You will now be able to see the memory usage of the process that you just isolated. Note that the image name will still show as "Svchost.exe". To verify that you are looking at the correct PID, you can run "Process Explorer", go the PID in question, right click, left click on Properties, left click on Services and you will see the service that you just isolated. Does isolating a service out of a Svchost and creating its own Svchost change the total amount of memory that your system is using? I would think that it would because you are adding an additional Svchost for each process that you isolate.

We used to have for most Audio drivers back in XP days a decent equalizer. Now all we have it seems is a basic Volume control. I just want the OPEN MIXER on the bottom task bar to have some basic equalisation like it did with XP.Any decent FREE generic equalizer -- I KNOW if I'm using VLC or Winamp they have their own equalizers and they work so my Audio (connexant HD) must have the facility available somewhere.I have some applications that just deliver "Bog standard Sound" to the on board sound card -- I'd like to be able to adjust the sound with a decent equalizer - seems we've GONE BACKWARDS here from XP -- the rest of Windows 7 is fine.
