View 1 Replies View RelatedHad to re-format HD, and seems to be working now.But for how much longer, who knows. On the old setup, I had MS WORD and Excel. Many existing files of both.I only have, if I remember right, 2 or 3 downloads allowable/available from the Student Edition of them that I purchased a while ago.So, I don't want to use up what is left on my present PC, as I have real doubts about it lasting much longer.I heard about Open Office, and that it is free, and "completely" compatible with the MS equivalents. True? Are there "better" free ones that would work very well with my existing WORD and Excel stuff?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi just formated my hdd, but after restarting my pc, i put windows 7 to dvd rom , but it still writes me [code] What i have to do to make it boot?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am planning to setup a windows 7 64bit based HTPC, and I have realized that I need more then 2TB of storage, so I am planning to use 2x3TB Hard drives, setup in Raid 1. Right now there are two ways I am thinking of setting it up, either with the 2x3TB drives in Raid 1 directly attached to the HTPC (sata3), or with the 2x3TB drives in a separate NAS drive, so I can make the media more available on the network.I read the thread here, and I see that I would need to format the drives as GPT instead of MBR, and I have some questions on how would work with my setup and if it would be compatible. If I put the drives locally in the HTPC, I would just be using them as data drives setup in Raid 1, the OS would still boot from a separate normal MBR hard drive. It has also been mentioned that you may need a EFI bios, which I understand is very new and few motherboards ship with this type of bios, or can even be upgraded to to it? Is this needed at all for using these drives, if I am not attempting to boot from a GPT drive? So my main questions are, if I install win 7 normally on a separate MBR hard drive on this AM3 motherboard, and then connect the 3TB drives, should I be able to format them as GPT with no issues, and setup them up in a raid 1? And then if I share them on the network, should other computers be able to access them with no issues? Also should they work fine in this dlink NAS listed below, and be accessible on the network as normal? Would I need to format them to GPT first in a win 7 computer, or could they maybe be formatted directly in the NAS?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a WDC WD5000BEVT-75A0RT0 Laptop hardisk ,and just in recent times it gave me an error from Windows 7 and when I boot my laptop saying that S.M.A.R.T found an error, and backup your data immediately the HDD is going to fail. Now I am quite a power user, and understand computer's quite well, but my laptop is just a year old (out of my warranty period), now how can this happen? I don't rough use my laptop at all, I didn't notice any hardware failure problems related to the HDD no clicking noises,I think its more to do with the software ? I ran a chkdsk and everything came out normal for my drive C: which is the WD drive. What do I do next?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with installing Windows 7 on my netbook (Novero Solana). I did a clean install (wiped out Windows 8) and when using a USB boot install of Windows 7, I encountered the following error (Disk 0 Unallocated Space): "Windows 7 install Error "Setup was unable to use existing system partition because it does not contain the required free space". The other partition on my netbook is System Reserved (Disk 0 Partition 1: System Reserved), but I don't want to touch it, as I have heard it contains important files e.g. bootup. Attached is the screenshot of the "Install Windows" screen displaying the partitions.
