I have edited shell32.dll.mui in en-us in system32 and in syswow64. But I can see any changes. yea I have taken ownership of those files, rebooted and also disabled software protection service and tried but i doesn't show any edited info.
I had Windows Vista and I upgraded using the 'clean install' to Windows 7. I had been experiencing BSODs (blue screen of death) and I thought a re-install, or an upgrade would solve those issues. However, I continue getting those BSODs now with Windows 7 as well.I can't quite recall the stop errors and names, but they were mostly IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I also had 'memory management' sometimes.Recently I powered on my computer and realized everything was running slowly, and I've noticed the BSODs have stopped. I ran everything, anti- malware, virus, spyware programs and they found nothing. I ran memory diagnostics and it came up with nothing. There's nothing really on this computer to be slowing it down since I haven't fully replaced all my files and it's a new OS.The only thing that found anything out of place was after running SFC /scannow, the CBS.log file says this in several places:
[code]...
What I could understand from that is it's saying that a file, called msdrm.dll.mui, is corrupt. Apparently it's in the 'en-US' folder (assuming). It also says on the last line, 'file is missing'.Now, I've replaced from the actual Windows 7 installation CD, the file msdrm.dll.mui in the en-US folder, and in another folder that had the same file. After restarting, the computer still runs sluggishly. My question is, why would the system file still be corrupt even after replacing it from the installation CD? The CD is fine, no scratches or anything like that, and it's virtually new. Also, could my system be missing something that the file msdrm.dll.mui needs to function properly? (I ask this because it says 'file missing') What can I do about this system file to fix it?Note: I looked up the system file msdrm.dll.mui and I read that it's needed for system performance (and performance right now is my issue so I'm guessing this is what's making my computer run slugglishly).
you know when you have 2 folders with the same name and the computer asks you if you want to replace it, keep both and such ? well, I did that to a very important folder that was on my external hard drive, now I don't know what to do is there any way to recover the folder to its version before I replaced it?ps: information - I replaced using a mac OSX Lion, but I can use any softwares for windows since the folder is on my hard drive not on my laptop - also, they were photos, which I edited with photoshop, so maybe there's something I can do in photoshop, maybe? - it wasn't deleted, it was replaced!
In windows 7 installed laptop when connecting sony digital cam its showing file is empty? How to transfer data from camera to the windows7 installed DEL laptop?
I recently installed windows 7 home premium on my HP G62 notebook PC. When I click on the start menu it shows bluetooth file transfer. When I click that it does says send and receive file but never scans. I tried installing drivers from the HP website. But it does not show on device manager or anywhere.
Four days ago, suddenly file list pane disappeared when I try to save a document. At first file list was absent only when printing file to a PDF but now I'm not able to see file list pane in any of the saves in any document. I had updated Acrobat X when I had received an automatic update and I suspect that is when that happened so today I removed Acrobat X and problem did not go away so I made a fresh install of the version that was working for me but the problem still persists. I now have to type the name of the file I want to save while before I would select an existing file from the list and then modify the name slightly to reflect the version number.
I finally got my Windows 7 boot/startup/shutdown/readingmail/scanning etc. working as I like and now am getting signs that the solid state drive I'm using for my C disk is recording errors and needs to be RMA'd. I have nothing but Windows files on C: and have a Raid 1 pair of drives as my file library (pictures/docs etc) and a NAS unit as the archive.I am wondering what's the least painful way to swap the C: drive without having to reinstall everything. I have a product called Drive Clone Pro installed that loads at boot time to give an option to restore a partition but I've never used it in that function so am a bit nervous and would appreciate any other options.
Motherboard died in a custom arcade machine, Replaced motherboard but of course it will not boot. Anyway i can get the serial key for windows "out" of the hard drive? This is a custom machine with no sticker. Also, if by doing a fresh install, will I lose any data on hard drive?
Dunno why this is happening but for some reason the programs Quicktime and Adobe Reader are taking on the icon of some other random program in my task bar. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both but it didn't seem to work.
I recently updated my PC and just bougth some different gear, for some reason it just refuses to boot. What happens is when I get to the windows logo loading screen my pc just freezes and reboots. This kept happening so I bought a new HDD and still the same, checked the harddisk to be sure on another pc. Also I recently bought 8 GB DDR3 ram, a P63 B3 Revision Motherboard, I2500K intel core CPU, crossfire with 2x GeForce 9800 GT.
After my daughter was using note pad, all icons on my laptop got replaced with wordpad icon and when you click on any of them they just show text describing program that it used to represent. Is there a way to turn it back to normal icons?
I was experimenting with DPI Scaling and changed from 125% to 150%. Didn't like that so returned to 125% and when I returned to the desktop, all of the program icons had a generic icon that appears to be overlaid. Haven't been able to find anything to return the icons to normal.
Looks like this: Would like to go back to the program icons.
Recently I have had a load of hardware issues which have caused me to replace my PSU and GPU. After doing so to more powerful units, I went to boot up again and got the error: "BOOTMGR is missing"
I have had this before when I remove my secondary HDD and just try and boot from my primary SSD, but after re-connecting the secondary HDD it would work again (telling me this BOOTMGR is on the HDD, even though the Windows files are on the SSD).
I don't know what to make of this as if I boot from the SSD alone nothing happens and it restarts, and if I connect the HDD and it boots then it goes into the System Recovery and after repairing/restoring still won't work. I think the BIOS settings are correct, with the SATA drives set to AHCI (as I'm 99% sure they were before).
My PC specs are: Intel i7 980X Intel DX58SO Motherboard 128GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD 2TB WD HDD (secondary) Radeon 7850 2GB GFX 8GB DDR3 RAM Windows 7 Ultimate
My PC recently would not boot up. Even in repair it would freeze, reinstalling windows did not help and eventually anything I loaded whether repair, setup of windows or straight boot into the OS would result in a BSOD error. I replaced HD and was able to boot in finally and reinstall windows.Everything was fine then I got one new BSOD which was 0x000000124 and my PC rebooted. I googled this and it showed general hardware failure but I can not identify the issue.I ran Hard drive test even though I just replaced it, no problems, ran memtest over night and got 8 passes with no errors.
Rig crashed due to a failed PSU --> Replaced with new Corsair AX1200 and now the Win 7 Ultimate 64bit is not recognizing the 12 gb Corsair Dominators (shows only 4 gb). I've searched the forums for this issues and the common responses was - to go to BOOT Advanced Options and uncheck the maximum memory. The Dominators are fine because they are detected by CPU ID. The MOBO is only showing 4 gb as well. I tried the 12 gb memory modules in a friends computer and it works fine!
I have an Epson Workforce 840 printer. I replaced the black ink and the cyan with refillable cartridges and reset the cartridges. Everything printed fine. Then a month later, the magenta and yellow were running low so I replaced those cartridges and reset those with the rest of the replacement set I installed earlier that included the black and cyan. I checked the print levels and all of the cartridges are showing as full, both on the printer's display as well as from my computer (I am printing from my Mac Powerbook and my kids' Windows 7 laptops). I then did a nozzle check and a print head check, and now only the black prints out. I try and print a lined/ruled paper from the printer's onboard control panel that should print in cyan and it comes out blank.
on 8th Feb 2013, I noticed my norton security pane was missing from its usual place . It was instead replaced with window defender. When I checked norton , it was turned off but turning it on failed. I have never experienced something like this before. I have tried system restore but this has also failed .
My motherboard is an Asus M3A78-EM and I have been using the system with the built in lan rated at 10/100/1000 mbps. The socket seems to be going bad so I tried replacing it with another internal card. They only had two to choose from at Office Depot were rated at 10/100/ mbps. and the other which was called D-Link DGE 530T which had the same specs as the motherboard so I got it. I've tried more than one cable and it works but is much slower did I buy the wrong thing to be running straight from a Wild Blue modem or, are there some settings that can be changed to speed it up I just run the one computer. D-Link DGE-530T Gigabit Desktop Adapter 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI 1 x RJ45
I just downloaded MS Office 2010. Now, all the office icons - Excel, PowerPoint etc ..... and all the icons in Start menu and my desktop such as Norton 360, iTunes, Quicktime Player, Calculator etc. show up as the Microsoft Word icon.
In other words all the original icons are missing and the only icon I see - for all software programs is Microsoft Word.
I had a virus on my laptop a few weeks ago and I deleted a folder... or something ... but I'm not sure what it was. what I deleted and how I can get it back?
I took out my wireless card to clean off the extra dust, when I replaced it back into my mother board I found that I no longer receive signal from my Graphic's card to my monitor. I also noticed that during my computers normal booting up process there was no "beep" like the computer normally gives as to loads windows 7.
So when I turn on my pc my monitor says there is no signal. My monitor is hooked up to my graphics card instead of the mother board. (I have yet to find the cord that plugs into the mother board, I've misplaced it.) When I boot the system up the fan runs and it makes every noise it should except the beep just before loading the OS.
Basically, my HP DV6-3065EA running Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) laptop died. I went into a computer shop and asked how much a simple diagnostic test would be to find out how much a repair would be. He quoted me 90. Phew, jog on! That wasn't going to happen!Anyway, I decided to replace the power jack. No hard job, just a simple unplug and plug back in job. (looks abit like this Hp power jack image by chikyeung on Photobucket). I replaced it; everything is running fine. I tried to put a USB pen drive into a usb socket. Didn't work. Tried another, didn't work. I have tried several devices and they all work on other computers but don't seem to be working on mine. I have been trawling the internet for answers, and as of yet, nothing -.-! I wouldn't call myself a novice, trust me, I've tried everything, uninstalling and reinstalling all of the USB drivers, checking bits of the registry.etc. Nothing. So today, i thought, right, WIPE THE COMPUTER! I backed up everything, went back to scratch.
My existing dual boot winxp/Windows 7 mirrored configuration appears to have issues. I ordered a SSD hd today from newegg. Question: new install, or just re-image the SSD? If I do new install, do I have to have a authorization from Microsoft? I purchased this Windows 7 Professional 2 years ago...
During multiple file coping(file transferring) from one folders to other folders while minimizing all the folder at the time, check the status in taskbar, it showing all folder as file coping folder. is it expected in aero themas or its issue.
i need urgent assistance to be able to download from the internet again as it shows I cant download anything from internet. It is showing choose an application to download file.
I have a toolbar on my taskbar titled "Programs". It has about eight folders in it. I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.
i protected password for my pendrive it is kingston 4gb then it showing 3.75b, but in properties it has been showing 576 kb how to get my original size (3.75gb)
Just bought Lenovo 580 which cane with win 8. As laptop has no touch screen win 8 is problematic and I don't like it in any case so I installed win 7 pro 64 bit in dual boot configuration till I get win 7 working properly. Most things fine but the Broadcom wireless is not working. It worked under 8 and a Kubuntu flash drive. Normally fn + f5 turns radio on and off but it will not work. Trouble shooting indicates radio is off but device controller says driver is fine and the latest.Have any other Lenovo owners fixed the problem? Anyone have any suggestions? I have a usb wireless I could use but that defeats the purpose of a laptop.Lenovo techs helpful but as I changed the OS I would have to go to paid ($89) single incident software help
Really if a flash-drive run drive of Linux works then some how windows 7 should be able to do it.
