However, I was lucky to have a back up (old, really old) that I can use to recover at least some of my data.I now have a new laptop and I restored the backup on it. However, I created a user name different from the two that are on the backup. If I now create the two users, will they automatically be linked to the files that were restored? Alternatively, is there a way to link all files to the new username?

Jul 17, 2010So I've been using my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit install on my Sony AR670 laptop for a couple months straight now with no real issues but this one that started last week with no apparent cause and is getting very annoying.The system 'hangs' or 'freezes' in a way when I do certain things like create a new file/folder or select a file from a 'browse' file box, especially say when I upload a file to a forum, like this one, using the "Manage Attachments" option... I use Chrome but this happens even in Windows so I'm sure it's not Chrome related... it has something to do with file access is my guess.During the 'hang' I can still move the mouse and scroll windows but I can't press buttons, open menus, or issue any 'commands' if I do I get the windows 'alert' sound and nothing happens. The length of time of the 'hang' varies from a couple seconds to maybe 15 seconds or so when really bad.Because it's so hard to describe exactly I haven't had much luck searching for a similar problem.It also happens when renaming or moving files... The file will seem to revert back to its original name for a few seconds during which time I can't really do anything. If I try to rename it or move it again I get a message the file no longer exists then it will change to the name I gave it the first time.

Dec 7, 2012I have setup some monitoring software in an XP Virtual Application. More specifically I used the "Virtual Applications: The 'Invisible' Third Mode" method described here.
My challenge is that I need to access the applications database file, and save it to a location on the host computer. It seems to me that the only way to save files from the Virtual Application is through the program itself, and because the program hasn't been designed to save the database file (e.g.: there is no "File - Save DB" command) I am stuck.
If I had setup a Virtual Machine and then installed the software into it I would have the advantage of being able to access the guest file system, however I would not have been able to start my monitoring software whenever a user logs onto the computer.
Is there any way of accessing the host system of a Virtual Application?
Error Accessing C Drive?
Dec 11, 2012I have a problem with Windows 7 and the c drive. I will try to explain a little bit the situation: have a Dell xps l501x with a home edition windows 7 licence.Since I prefer to use linux, I resized the Windows7 and create another partition for the linux distribution when I bought. So I had Windows 7 and linux (arch linux) working together for some months.I barely used Windows 7 so I decided to use virtualbox to use windows7 (the raw device as a harddrive). And here started the problems, because I ended with a black screen and the mouse pointer in windows7 (the probably was due to a resolution problem)After many months (as I said, I barely used it), yesterday I decided to fix the problem and I managed to do it. But now I have another problem that I don't know how to fix it (I'm not using virtualbox anymore).
When I start windows 7, the wallpaper is black with the infamous "compilation 7600" and many advice that "is not a genuine copy" (actually it is), and a lot of errors at start. Trying to use the OS:- Many application don't work. Even diskmgmt.msc doesn't work.- I can't access C drive, if I tried prompts an error about permissions, even if I change the permissions I can't access. And If I try to see the properties all the values in the c drive are "0 bytes" (size, free space...)Regarding that, I can't download anything.It seem the c drive is not recognized and I suppose that is the main problem.If I boot with the option "Directory Services Restore Mode" I can acces to C and everything seems to work better. And in the properties the values are correct (the size, free space....)
Accessing NAS 0x80070035 Error?
May 9, 2012I have a readyNAS Duo where I keep all my music files, a few days ago the Raidar program stopped allowing me to browse the drives saying to check spelling and error code 0x80070035 was displayed, I can access the NAS via it's web page but this does not allow me to access the file structure.This is via my router.If I connect the ethernet cable from the NAS straight into the PC all is fine?

Jan 23, 2013This December just been I got a 2Tb hard drive, a stock standard Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm. I have noticed in recent weeks, that when I access this drive, perhaps to copy files, read them, rename them, import files to it, download files to it, etc, etc etc, it causes some pretty shocking instability in my opinion. Programs at random will stop responding, as I type this, skype randomly froze while I was chatting to a friend, and it took 5 minutes to get it to close and restart. On top of this, windows explorer just loses it, it will hang to the point I cant even access task manager, file transfers will crawl along, and random explorer windows will briefly freeze. A corrupted windows install? Corrupted files? Any ideas? I will re-install windows if absolutely necessary, however if its a matter of corrupted files, the files are almost entirely irreplaceable, I would need a way to single out the problematic files and remove them, so I need a method to do this?

Feb 17, 2012I'm running on a relatively new install of Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. I recently (about 2-3 weeks ago) installed a new HD and decided to have a fresh start so everything was formatted followed by win 7 install. Everything has been running great up until mid day yesterday. Out of what seems like nowhere I experienced 6 or 7 BSOD's yesterday and from what I could tell they occurred when I tried to do any of the following: 1. Access drive D and play a video file (This is the new HD, it would instantly BSOD). 2. Access internet within 1 minute of startup.
Since yesterday I haven't had any BSOD's and have had the computer running, I haven't tried to play any videos off of HD and haven't reset my computer since (hoping that whatever it was has gone away, although I'm sure it hasn't). For the record I have accessed some music files on drive D without any issue, as well as several word and excel documents (not sure if that makes any difference?)I have a feeling it may have something to do with my new HD that I installed, but have no idea what it could be as it was running without issue up until yesterday (for at least 2 if not 3 weeks).

Accessing NAS Drive - Error Code 1208
Nov 24, 2009Ive Googled this and there seems to be lots of info but no resolution that I can find. I have a Buffalo NAS drive which I can see in Explorer but cant access - I keep getting an error code 1208. I am using the standard W7 Home Professional security and Microsoft Security Essentials. Ive rung Buffalo and they have indicated its a Samba issue with Windows 7.
Is there any resolution to this issue yet (without requiring a Registry hack)?
Cannot Delete Any Registry Key In HKLM / SYSTEM
Dec 20, 2010I have Windows 7 Ultimate, and every time i want to delete a key in HKLM/SYSTEM, i get "Cannot delete (key name): Error while deleting key" Here's what i've tried: setting Permissions on the key to full control for administrators group, owner, owner rights, SYSTEM, and my own admin account, NONE of that helps. Also, in 'Advanced security settings-->Owner, i changed it to my own admin account, and also ticked "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" but i get another error "Registry Editor could not set owner on the key currently selected, or some its subkeys." I even turned off User Account Control (UAC).

Fix Broken Registry Startup Error
Feb 16, 2010Recently my custom-built pc has come across an error where it at boot-up it says "windows has detected an error and canceled startup to prevent system damage".
I am pretty sure that this is a registry error because of what happened before, heres the full story.
I first had to delete a couple game files from the registry of my computer because they had been corrupt to the point where the uninstaller was missng but some files were still there and the game was still installed, so i had to manually uninstall the game. I followed steps from a online source and made sure that i only deleted the files specific to the game and not to touch anythign else. After doing this i rebooted and my pc was still workign fine. Then, i opened up my registry defragger (glary utilities) and ran a registry defrag. It told me that it would clear up 77% of the space(i hadn't run it before and i built my pc about 5 months ago) but i ran it anyways. After the auto reboot after defragging it came up with the error message and no longer starts windows.
I had backed up my files with Norton backup but was unable to do a system restore because it said "you need to have system protection enabled on drive c", i only have one hard drive with both windows and my data on it. It also cant find any system images to mirror and revert to. Windows tried repairng the errors but couldnt. It also scanned for any memory errors and found none. I have tried every option on the windows bootup system repair menu with no success.
I was thinking that i could take out my hard drive and plug it into a one of those devices that turns an internal drive into a external usb drive. If i were to do this and plug it into another computer, is there a way i can repair the registry? Does anybody know of anyway to do this or of any better solutions to this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running a Dell XPS Studio 15 L502x laptop, so no RAID.
