Apply A *.reg Script Into The Registry Of A Dead/not Running Windows 7 System?

Jan 11, 2012

The scenario is as follows:

A Win7 system has some problems and could NOT be booted itself. So I took an additional bootable repair or LiveSystem CD and start the computer with it. I have now a running WinOS and another dead Win7 e,g, on a partition C: on a hard disc.

Now I want to apply an existing *.reg Script into the registry of the dead system (=NOT the currently running system. Can I do this somehow? Is there e.g. a command

regedit myscript.reg -writetowin C:Windows

whch writes the *,reg file to the Registry of the Win7 system which it find on partition C: in folder "Windows"?

Maybe I can address the target registry file directly regedit myscript.reg -writeregistrydirect C:windows txxxxxxx.dat

In which file(s) is the Registry stored? Second question: Can I at least read from such an external dead Registry?

Where To Locate A Script Running That Re-writes Registry Values

Dec 28, 2011

I am running on Windows 7 home premium 64-bit. There is a legalnoticecaption and legalnoticetext enabled in the registry, and when I delete these values and restart, they re-appear! I've even tried deleting them altogether. I'm guessing there is some sort of script enabled that re-writes the registry values upon deletion, and I need some help identifying and getting rid of said script.

Get Files From Dead Laptop - Drive Shows As "System Reserved"

Jan 4, 2012

Someone spilled a liquid on my wife's laptop damaging the keyboard and internals. It cannot boot but I need to get the files from the HD. I bought one of those USB to laptop HD cables, removed the HD and hooked the cable to my desktop Windows 7 PC. The drive came up as "System Reserved" with only the boot sector folders visible. I hooked it to an XP PC and autoplay showed all the folders but I couldn't see them in "Computer." I tried backing everything up to a DVD but it failed for some reason. This somehow may have damaged the drive. The drive now appears and disappears in device manager. When it's listed, it shows as working properly but no longer shows up in Computer or Disk Management. Any chance of getting files off of the laptop HD?

Registry After Windows Update And Registry Optimization Tool

Jun 16, 2012

While windows was uploading some updates yesterday, I cleaned my registry using Iolo's system mechanic tool and that's where the problems started. (I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. A lesson I learned too late, unfortunately.)My computer rebooted and after a couple of minutes I noticed the message: " failure configuring windows features reverting changes ". I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. This only worked partially: I get windows to run in normal mode but I get this message: "system failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. Restore point damaged or was deleted during restore". So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? Well my computer is slow as hell.Like mentioned above, I already looked around on this forum and wrote down what I already tried. [code] My computer is terrible slow because of a registry defrag/optimization of a registry tool (in combination with windows update) --> I need to find a way to get back my old registry files but system recovery ain't working.

Cannot Delete Any Registry Key In HKLM / SYSTEM

I have Windows 7 Ultimate, and every time i want to delete a key in HKLM/SYSTEM, i get "Cannot delete (key name): Error while deleting key" Here's what i've tried: setting Permissions on the key to full control for administrators group, owner, owner rights, SYSTEM, and my own admin account, NONE of that helps. Also, in 'Advanced security settings-->Owner, i changed it to my own admin account, and also ticked "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" but i get another error "Registry Editor could not set owner on the key currently selected, or some its subkeys." I even turned off User Account Control (UAC).

System Restore Vs Full Registry Backup?

Apr 25, 2011

While System Restore usually does what it is supposed to do, sometimes it doesn't. When I am intending to do something a bit drastic or unusual on my desktop now, I routinely make a full registry backup. (Start/Run/type REGEDIT/OK/File/Export. Name and save the file in Documents) On my machine this takes 20 - 30 secs and results in a file around 200 MB. I have never had to use one of these backups to restore this machine so far

System Idle Process Running Before Windows 7 Starts?

Aug 17, 2012

In the last 2 days when I start my Win 7 Pro x64 PC I have a problem. After the Welcome screen goes I get a blue screen (Not BSOD) with my cursor in the centre and my Windows 7 title in the bottom right-hand corner. This lasts for about 90 seconds then Windows starts up. I pressed Control, Alt and Delete whilst the blue screen was up and selected Task Manager. The only Process running was System Idle Process. I thgought it was only supposed to run when the system was idle not starting up. I know Windows will not allow you to stop the process but what is causing it to run. My computer is normally a fast start-up - about 32 seconds, but suddenly this. What have I done to my dream machine (12 gb of Ram, 5 hard-drives)?

System Instability When Running Windows Media Player

Jan 23, 2013

I have noticed lately that Windows Media Player has become a bit, choppy, a bit laggy. When playing videos, fraps reports a decent fps, and the actual video file is at a fps which will easily display as smooth, however I can clearly see choppy video. When this happens, other dynamic elements also become choppy, such as the windows animation displayed when moving files, or moving temperature graphs. Perhaps it is a video driver? Or something similar? Either way, the system should be easily able to keep up with the load.

Exact Steps To Get 15 Monitors Running On Windows 7 64bit System?

Jan 24, 2012

I am trying to get 15 monitors working on my system. I have a gigabyte GA990fxaud5 motherboard with amd fx 8150, 8 core CPU and 16 gb dual channel Kingston ram. I also have 4x firepro 2450 video cards 3 of x16 here: NTI--ATI FirePro 2450 PCI Express. 4 Display Video card.and 1 of x1 here: NTI--ATI FirePro 2450 PCI Express. 4 Display Video card.I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit I have 2 of the x16 cards installed and its working fine and it takes me to a black screen that says "loading operating system" and then everything else goes smooth and takes me to the windows os. When I run the system with these 2 video cards everything runs perfectly and I can get 8 outputs. The problem is, when I put the third card in the system, the system boots, gets passed the bios (where I can press esc to access bios) but then it takes me to a black screen with no further activity. It's when I place the third card in, is when this black screen occurs without having any message.Maybe the systems confused with this third card. Maybe it's something in windows 7 settings. Or maybe bios.I have installed this exact firepro driver: ATI FireGL?Do I need to have SLI or CrossFire to run multiple video cards? How do i do that for these video cards I have? What are the settings in the BIOS that will enable these 4 video cards. The expansion slots on the mb are compatible with the 4 cards and it does have enough grunt to handle these cards, but it's now getting all 4 cards to operate together on the os.

Apply Inherited Permissions For An Entire NTFS Disk Windows 7?

I want to make sure I am not just the owner, but any inherited permissions apply to all folders and fles with an NTFS file system.I used to have some script several years ago when I applied this to servers I was working with. I've done some things to try and fix this like:Avg boostspeed and CC cleaner to try and fix any problems.Cleaned and defraged the registry &Defraged and optimize the hard drive Virus and malware scans all come back negative.
