Encountering This On A Newly Reformatted Windows 7 PC

Mar 11, 2012

I would like to consult here this problems which I have been encountering lately.Firstly, here's my PC specs:

board: ASUS P5PKL AM SE
cpu: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 2.93ghz
ram: 2x2gb Kingston ddr2 800mhz (newly bought)
gpu: Radeon hd 6570 1gb ddr3 (newly bought)
psu: generic 600w (newly bought)
hdd: Seagate 1TB - os installed here (newly bought)
Seagate 2TB - (as backup for files)

I successfully installed windows 7, after that I installed first an anti virus, I was a previous ESET user, but upon looking at reviews I settled with Comodo Internet security. I then installed Tuneup Utilities 2012, then other various programs, firefox,Idm, my huge archive of old games.I noticed that there would appear on the screen some distortions/blurry lines/runny lines from time to time. If I would try to reset the settings on the monitor itself, the lines would either get worse or simply reduce. I also tried to change the resolution in the AMD Catalyst control manager, and in the screen resolution setting, but it doesn't permanently solve my problem. I tried changing the refresh rate, but to no avail. What's also wierd is that these "lines/distortions" only appear when I am on the desktop and doing simple tasks like browsing the web, playing windowed games like scrabble, pinball, etc. but whenever I would play full games like Stronghold, Red Alert 3, Need for Speed, etc. there seems to be no signs of the lines or distortions that are occurring. Sometimes these lines/distortions would occur on the borderlines of a window, sometimes on a specific side of the screen.. right now as I'm writing this there seems to be no distortions, (current setting is 60hz refresh rate) but when I change it to 75, the distortions would appear again. What seems to be the problem? Hardware or software? The video card has updated drivers, I tried doing system restores, I tried uninstalling the gpu driver and reinstalling again, removing the vga cord,(I can't reformat again since my dvd drive's condition is getting worse, I was only lucky that my Windows 7 install was successful.)

Encountering On Windows 7 MCE Setup?

Jun 6, 2011

I would need some advice on the following issue I am encountering on my Windows 7 MCE setup. The unit is a GF8300 motherboard with a low power AMD CPU. I am primarily using the HDMI output both for audio and video, quite recently since prior to that I as using an old DSP-A1 with SPDIF input only, so only video was routed through the HDMI output.Note that I reinstalled everything from scratch, and no additionnal codec installed (except Haali media splitter and the associated registry hack to enable MKV support in MCE).I'm located in Europe, so I use the 1920x1080 50Hz setting, latest NV drivers.I have now a new amplifier (Denon AVR-3311), and I'm running into several issues.Mode switch: WMC keep changing mode output. When playing back LiveTV, it goes into 1080i mode. Likewise playing a video file results into a mode switch (and for that I still don't understand why, since the video file is 1080p).HDMI hotplug autodetection: the new amplifier has an HDMI switch built-in. Problem is... when I switch input on the amplifier, the MCE unit registers a hotunplug event. And when it reconnects (ie when I switch back on the input to the MCE PC0, the end result is quite random: I've had instances of 1080i mode, even on the front end, the audio setup is messed up (it goes back from 7.1 to stereo),So if anyone has a way to.Force MCE to NOT switch modes and keep 1080p 50Hz.Disable HDMI hotplug detection

Reformatted To Windows 7 -- No Sound?

Apr 24, 2011

I just reformatted my computer from Windows XP to Windows 7 after being attacked with many trojans. Everything is working great, except for the sound! All I can hear is static that grows louder as I turn the volume up. I tried downloading Realtek drivers, but that did nothing. I tried troubleshooting the problem too, but it can't find any errors.Alec Lansing XA3021 might not be compatible with Windows 7. I just want to see if that may be the case and if it isn't

Apr 23, 2011

My Windows 7 was not able to load multiple times after I reformat the HD timse and times again. I also followed some tips to system restore and what not in Safe Mode but that still doesn't work. I'm currently typing this problem in Safe mode with Network but that's the thing.I'm able to load into Windows but not in a normal way.I'm having a suspicion that my HD cache might have messed up. I'm still using Intel's faulty p67 motherboard too, is that also the problem?

Reformatted Windows 7 And Most Programs Don't Start

Nov 6, 2011

I just formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7, everything went smooth and I updated everything with windows update. After it installed service pack 1 I couldnt start most programs that I have installed for example winamp, vlc and utorrent and thats all I have realised so far. If I just simply double click on one of those programs I get a process that is always 120k no matter which program and it will keep allowing you to click just making even more of these processes. I can get these programs to start if I run as administrator but when they start explorer crashes, I have tried searching the web but no-one else seems to have quite the same problem and I wouldnt have a clue as to what I could do to stop it.

Reformatted HDD Not Recognized In Bios Or Windows 7 Install

May 19, 2012

A friend of mine's computer stopped working a few days ago. When turned on they only get a message to change the boot sequence or insert boot media.

I took out their HDD and attached it as a external to my computer. I then backed up all their files (the drive appears to be working fine.) not being sure what the issue was I decided to reformat the drive and re install a clean version of win 7.

After finally getting the drive completely erased I reformatted as NTFS and installed it back into the computer. At this point The bios did not recognize any HDDs or optical drives (I had the win 7 disk in the DVD drive).

I created a bootable USB win 7 disk which the computer did recognize and initiated set up. At this point the set up process does not recognize any drives.

Not sure what to do to get it to recognize the drive. My initial thoughts are formatted incorrectly.

Usb Requests Any And All Devices Be Reformatted?

Nov 12, 2012

Whenever I plug a device into a USB port it says cannot proceed without formating the device, even though the device (photo card, flash drive, etc) always worked before. I don't dare format the device because I don't want to lose the information stored. Operating system is Windows 7, 64 bit pro. Exployer 9. Every thing else seems to be working OK except after updating my drivers the other day Exployer 9 seems to have problems downloading many graphic displays from websites. May be entirely different problem not connected to USB problem as that started more recently. USB is my main problem. I work from home so I'm usually around the computer much of the day or evening.

Reformatted Drive Not Showing Up

Feb 13, 2012

I've got a WD My Book 1110 external hard drive, originally for Mac. My Mac died and so I got a Windows 7 machine. I extracted all the data, reformatted the two partitions I had on the drive, and moved the data back onto it. The partitions showed up with letters, all was fine, until I restarted my machine. Now I can't access the drive. It shows up in Disk Management, lists the properties, but the drives aren't assigned letters, they don't show up in Explorer, and Disk Management says the partitions are 100% free. Also in Disk Management, when I right click on the volume, all options are greyed out except Delete. Taking some clues from the internet, I've already tried uninstalling the drivers (it says they're up to date, and said it reinstalled them fine, and that the drive was ready to use, except it still doesn't show up.)

Could Have Reformatted My Portable Harddrive

Nov 29, 2009

I am hoping very much that someone can help me out of a catastrophic situaition after having done a clean installation of Windows 7.

The situation is that I used my 500 GB Fugitsu HandyDrive to save Windows Easy Transfer file but now neither of my two computers will recognise the HandyDrive - they just keep saying “new hardware found - looking for drivers” but don’t find any.

This is devastating as it is (or was!) almost ¾ full of months of hard work - some backed up some not (my fault of course).

I have been using the HandyDrive to work between my 18” and 10” laptops both of which had Vista.

I have the Acer Windows 7 Upgrade Kit for the 18” laptop and after 4 failed upgrade attempts and one failed clean installation, I tried one last clean installation which at last was successful. Each time I ran the Upgrade Advisor and carried out the recommendations. The Handydrive was shown as “USB Mass Storage Device” and shown as being Compatible with Windows 7.

I saved the Windows Easy Transfer file on the Handydrive.

After the successful installation of Windows 7, I carried out the Easy Transfer but was dismayed to find I had very few programs now (I had thought they would be on the Upgrade disc but cant find them). I took the Handydrive out of 18” (now with Windows 7) and plugged it into 10” (Vista) so that I could print the Upgrade Advisor file I had saved, which showed the programs I had before clean install. Disaster - it wouldn’t work! The HandDrive was not in my Ciomputer.

I have written to Fugitsu to see if they can help but in the meantime can anyone on this forum tell me what I’ve done? I will be devastated if I cant recover the data on the HandyDrive

Also how do I get the programs I am missing?

Reformatted Computer, Abysmal Connection?

Sep 27, 2011

i reformatted my hard drive 3 weekends ago after getting a new ssd. i have my windows 7 and adobe cs5 installed on my ssd. everything else is on my trusty, old hard drive. when i re-formatted, i used an ultimate boot cd > darik's boot & nuke. it took 15 hours! if there was anything naughty on there then i sure as heck was determined to get rid of it.before i formatted i had the occasional internet hiccup (it's comcastic!) but nothing to cry about. but now...i literally can't do anything i used to do.downloading anything takes forever. there's constant hang-ups and time-outs.also i love to play games online, but this problem is causing me nothing but headaches. i've been playing fallout 3 lately and i'm constantly disconnected from windows live/steam because my connection is so poor.if i want to watch a Internet video then i have to have the foresight to buffer for a good time before i want to actually enjoy it. this goes for netflix as well, you can forget about watching anything on there... last night i wanted to watch a video with a friend. it was 12 minutes long. it took me 15 minutes to buffer...at 240p. pathetic right?

using skype is virtually impossible now too. i keep getting slow connection speed errors/messages and my friend and i look like we're 8-bit characters.!but the thing is...i swapped to skype last night on my phone before bed to talk with my friend and the connection seemed absolutely fine. no hiccups or bumps or anything. and the picture seemed crisp as could be (well, as far as my iphone 3gs can get anyway!)i keep getting "no internet access" errors when trying to connect to my router. my parents live across the street. since i used to live with them i still have the code for their internet. i'm using it now because it works better than my connection in the living room. how sad is that?

- searched forums! most everything i find points to spyware/malware/viruses. i could re-format again this weekend but i don't see how it's possible that anything naughty clung to my hard drive after using darik's boot & nuke 3 weekends ago;

- swapped out my router, same undesirable result;

- reset router and modem, that didn't seem to change anything;

- run memtest86, i did this test overnight, 8 hours later and there were 0 errors, so i know my ram isn't the issue...

i might be a bit ignorant when it comes to these things but i'm really at my wits end with this. it's been 3 weeks and i can't seem to figure out why my internet is so unreliable. and i did check on comcast's website, i'm at 80% of the cap for this month. so i haven't gone over.i swapped back to my connection to try and get a speedtest.net reading but i timed out each time after 5 minutes of trying to access that website. and well...i'm back on my parent's connection.

Reformatted SSD - Programs And Features Selection Empty

Sep 3, 2012

I have a custom PC for the past year and my main Windows 7 boot drive was giving my some aggravating problems. Board is an EVGA P67 SLI with a Crucial C300 128GB SSD as the main boot drive in the SATA3 location. I've seen MANY cases where people were having some slowing speeds with the drive and I finally came along with that problem as well, and since I only use the drive to boot up I figured a reformat would be a nice way to simply start over.

Regardless, I have 2 other mechanical hard drives one in which stores everything from Steam Games to Ventrilo and other software. The other is simply used for personal things like Pictures, Music, and Videos. My "Programs Drive" is simply like the "Program Files" of your typical C: drive really. Everything I can put on that one goes on that one and basically I use the SSD for the start up times since P67 doesn't support caching like the Z68s do.

My issue is, now that I've reformatted my main SSD drive when it comes to playing my games I'm only able to play whatever is through Steam. If it isn't through Steam then it simply doesn't run. Even when I actually try re-installing it again just for registry purposes it doesn't go through. Obviously my "Programs & Features" selection is a bit empty right now because nothing is registered on my main drive. Should probably look into doing that at some point as well with Steam and all of the installed games.

Just Reformatted Computer And Now Unable To View Other Computers?

Jun 12, 2012

my brother gave me a new motherboard last weekend and I had to reformat consequently, since then however I have been unable to view or access my netbook or network drive. Before reformatting I was running on Windows 7 ultimate x32 and I am now running on the same however in x64 instead. I know that my network is working as I can access my network drive through my netbook but I am unable to see my computer or netbook through both devices, but seen as my net-book was able to see my pc prior to reformatting I am pretty sure it is an issue with my computer. I have done all the usual checks through the network and sharing center to ensure that everything is shared correctly and that network discovery is turned on.

Reformatted Primary HDD Now Secondary Drive Appears Empty

Apr 25, 2011

I recently reformatted my Windows 7 32bit system on my primary HDD (C). When I open My Computer, my secondary HDD (D) appears, but when I try to open it, it shows as empty. However, if I look at the properties of D, it says that only 200gb out of 500gb of free space is available. I booted into a live version of Ubuntu and the secondary HDD appears with all data in it and accessible, so I know there is nothing physically wrong with the drive. I know that I could brute force this problem by making a copy of the drive in Ubuntu, then reformatting it in Win7, but I'm hoping there's an easier solution that I'm just not aware of.

Installing Windows 7 On An Newly Built Pc

I am going to build a new pc from scratch, I already have a windows 7 installation disc and an windows xp installation disc from my old pc that i bought. I am worried when I try install the windows 7 os on the new build it wont work because when i put the disc in my laptop the auto run comes up and says run setup.exe, but as far as I know that is a file that is associated with windows (and the new pc wont have an OS yet) Is that file just for upgrade purposes? because on the disc there are also many other files and folders.Does that mean I will be able to install the OS on my new system from the BIOS menu or will i have to install the old xp OS and then upgrade

BSOD On Newly Built Windows 7 Computer

Nov 6, 2011

So I recently put together a computer for a friend of mine. We booted it up, and everything seemed to be fine. Unfortunately, he has been having intermittent BSOD crashes, often when installing new software (though not always). We've tried reinstalling Windows 7 (64 bit) several times, and I've had him run various RAM and hard drive diagnostics, which have (so far) not indicated any issues. My suspicions are beginning to point towards the motherboard or power supply, but honestly I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to analyzing dumps. I've attached the relevant dump files. I don't have a full list of hardware directly at my disposal, but if necessary I can have him run a dxdiag tomorrow.

Slow Performance On Newly Installed Windows 7?

Aug 31, 2012

I have a laptop that has been upgraded to Windows 7 from vista. In the beginning everything was fine and things worked really fast. However, for past few months I have had dreadful performance. Whenever I check my CPU is at 100% and it takes ages to do anything. Even opening a chrome tab takes 5 minutes. I tried doing driver checks to confirm nothing was wrong. After trying hard, I just re-installed Windows 7 but no luck. Then I formatted my hard disk and installed windows 7 again. Now it works fine but I do get the extreme slowness sometimes. While doing all of this, one thing I noticed that if I was to put my laptop to sleep and bring back it might start working absolutely fine. Before reformatting it worked 50% of times. Now again it has worked whenever I tried. I wonder if this is a CPU power setting issue? I have already set the power settings to have full performance

Newly Created User Accounts Can't Login To Windows 7

A customer I saw today had a family Windows 7 PC with four user profiles on it. All worked apart from one called Hannah. When selected it started to load but then just showed "The user profile service failed to logon. user profile cannot be loaded"

the account was hardly used (Hannah is 9) so we decided to delete it and make a new one with a different name. For some reason the exact same thing happened!

Reading up on this people say to open regedit and go to HKEYLOCAL MACHINE>software>microsoft>windowsnt>currentversion>profilelist. All the profiles for the three working profiles were there but the profile for Hannah or the new profile I made wasnt present.

Newly Installed Windows 7 Running Slow On Strong PC

Mar 22, 2012

I've just installed fresh Win 7 ultimate x64 via USB. Right from the start it was working really slow but it just got worse.

My hardware is decent: Intel i7 CPU, 12GB RAM, WD Caviar 500GB system HDD. Task Manager shows that only 13% of RAM is being used and 0% of CPU. Still, I can barely work on it - it keeps freezing everytime I click on more than one window...

Once I had to do a hard restart since it didn't want to shutdown normally, and then I got startup failure screen. Startup repair didn't do anything but it still managed to boot somehow.

I tried to optimize win process but that didn't do anything either.

I believe it might be the HDD, since I ran Win normally on other HDD with same hardware... But I did use current one as backup storage without a problem.
