Disk Defragmenter Is Gone
Jul 30, 2012how do I install it without reinstalling windows ? I dont have windows dvd !! Please help....
A:
a. Open the "Start" menu.
b. Type %Windir%Inf in the "Search" box and press "Enter".
c. In the window that opens, find the file named "dfrg.inf".
d. Right-click on "dfrg.inf" and "Install."
B:
a. Go to "Start > type cmd" on your computer.
b. copy and paste this text rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%infdfrg.inf and press "Enter"
c. Click "OK" to make the program automatically reinstall itself.
C:
a. Go to Start >All Programs>Accessories>Right Click on Command Prompt> select "Run As Administrator"
b. At command prompt, type regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll and hit "Enter."
c. Type regsvr32 dfrgui.dll and hit "Enter." This will reinstall any missing defragger files.
C Drive Does Not Appear In Disk Defragmenter?
Aug 2, 2010I was going to get around to defragging my C: drive today, (which I don't actually remember if I've ever done in Windows 7) and when I opened the Disk Defragmenter, the C: drive doesn't show up, and as a result I can't defrag it. I have an HP Probook 4510s.

Mar 12, 2012I was just wondering if anyone might happen to know as to why Drive C: which is my primary operating system drive that I have Windows 7 installed on is not showing up in the list of drives that can be defragmented and as to what I might be able to do about it.I'm hearing the drive access things a lot and when I've run Checkdisk and had the computer restart it's indicated that there have been orphaned files. I've uninstalled and wiped the system several times but to no effect and at the moment I just don't know as to what could be causing it and what I can do to fix it.

Nov 16, 2012Running Windows 7 Profesional SP1 64bit, I have an SSD system drive at C: and a hard drive installed as D:. No firewall or a/v software running on the system. Logged in as an admin.
When I click the shortcut at Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter, nothing happens. Same thing if I click 'Defragment now...' from D: drive properties > Tools.
Shouldn't I see some type of user dialog box? The program linked to is called dfrgui.exe, so I expect there should be some kind of GUI.

Nov 9, 2009When I open disk defragmenter it doesn't list my C drive -- which is the primary internal HD on which the OS, windows 7 64 bit, is installed. I have another partition that came with my computer (Dell Studio XPS) on which Dell has some a backup recovery image on, and this drive 'Recovery (D' _does_ show up. Just the 'OS (C' drive does not -- which happens to be the drive I'd like to defrag.I haven't tried any other defrag programs yet. I'm the administrator user on this computer if that's relevent. Also, if I go to properties on my C drive via my computer and click defrag from there, it'll open disk defragmenter and still just list the D drive.

Antivirus Program That Will Run On A Boot Disk Or Thumdrive
Dec 14, 2009I am looking to start a small business removing Virus's and also spyware. I know I could just hook up their Hard drives to my PC and scan them that way and I may be able to hook their PC to notebook and scan their PC, not sure if I could do that.
But I was hoping there may be a very good antivrus program that I could just run from a CD or DVD before it boots into windows or maybe from a Thumbdrive.
It would also be great if there was a very good Spyware program that could be ran the same way.
I really don't want to remove their hard drives to do this unless I have to.
I would enjoy building PC's to sell but can't see were I could make any money doing it.

Oct 5, 2011I put together a scheduled task (in Windows 7) that automatically shuts the computer off when the kids have been playing for an hour. However, here's the problem - they cancel the shutdown, even after I force it to launch if it didn't 'run', and continue playing.
I have since put together a "force log-off" task. Now for the question:
Is there a script I can run in cmd.exe or user logoff option that starts some sort of timer that will disable log on? It would be even better if I could have help writing something that would require a password for the account after an hour, so I can give them permission for additional time, or when switching between kids.
Services Vs Scheduled Tasks
Oct 28, 2010I was wondering about the differences between Services and Tasks. From what I have heard, read about services in windows 7 it seems that they run in an isolates session (I think session 0) which does not allow them to perform certain tasks. For one application I know that they cannot access a GPU for instance...or thats what it seems.Are scheduled tasks the same in that even though you can run them under a user they run in this constricted environment? What is the difference between them?

The syntax for the job would be "FreeFileSync myjob.batch" run from the utilities location.I set the trigger to 2am each day, with the action to start the program from its location with the batch job file which is located in the same folder being the argument. Under conditions tab I set it so that it will wake the computer up to run the task and set it so that if another instance is running it will run in parallel in the settings tab. The last one 12/2011. The last backup field says �Never��yet backups exist. Short of it, I cannot find the reason backups would not run. Windows has an extremely poor ability to view just what is going on with backups. Assuming it might be a space issue. I deleted all but a few of the last backups in manage backups, and reset the schedule so backups would run overnight. This morning, same results, backup cancelled. Dec 16, 2010Ok, so I want to I want to set up a scheduled task that will run while I am away from my PC and have the desktop locked, and have the program be visible an interactive when I return to the PC and unlock the desktop.The task is triggering properly and running the program. However, when I unlock the desktop, the program is nowhere to be visibly found. If I launch task manager, I see that it is indeed running, and it's listed as being ran by my username, yet it's hidden from my session.Anyone know the remedy for this, such that I can unlock the desktop and the app will be visible and interactive, as if I had manually launched it myself

Jul 20, 2011It seems that scheduled tasks are only visible by their author or by administrators. We would like to create a task that is visible and usable by any user on the computer. In Windows XP, there was an NTFS tab on a task's properties window, but it's missing in Windows 7. It might be a matter of setting the permissions correctly on the folder that contains the actual task files, but contrary to what I assumed, this folder doesn't seem to be C:WindowsTasks. I don't see the task I imported in this folder, and setting correct permissions on it still doesn't make my task visible to simple users.
