View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a new computer last week, and i am connecting wirelessly to my router for internet, just like my other 3 roommates. My download speeds are in the 11-20 KB/S range while theres are in the 400-500 range! even my old low RAM computer is getting dl speeds in that range. I don't know why it is doing this, one of my roommates said he still downloads stuff on his win XP computer bc his new Win 7 comp is just as slow as mine! Is this a common problem with new computers in general? Is there an easy way to fix it, such as utilizing more priority to download speeds?

just put together a new computer and I'm having trouble booting it up. All the lights on the MoBo, and the fans are running, the fan on my GPU seems like its going at max speed.
When I try to start up, the computer starts, then turns off for about 2 seconds, then starts up again, and stays on until i turn it off. Theres only 1 short beep when I start it up. I am using a HDMI cable from my monitor to my graphics card, and it just says " no signal "

i registered to the forum cause i am encountering a problem with my old internet's connection speed on a new computer.i have a 2mbs internet connection which has been enough for me for the past few years. problem is that since i bought a new desktop my connection is extremely slow, Internet videos lag almost instantaneously even on 360p (which didn't happen with the same connection on my old desktop). moreover, downloading from firefox or programs like origin speed seems not to go above 15 or 20 kbps while on my old desktop it reached its limit around 210kbps. as you understand this is extremely annoying, i am suspecting that the problem is hardware related. i am using a modem (the one my isp provided) and an ethernet cable to my desktop. additionally i am using windows firewall and microsoft security essentials.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been having trouble with my computer being slow. After doing a repair install it is better, but it did not correct the "freezing up" part of it. Sometimes I can correct it by just clicking all over the screen and other times to ctrl, alt, del and click on different user, but it is a pain. Any one know why it would be freezing up?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post/thread on TH.Anyways, I Just recently bought a laptop for HS, about half a month old. Everything Ran fine , Until My computer decided to not work anymore.
I did a system restore from a repair disk and fixed, the only catch, norton reinstalled. I had uninstalled norton and when I did a system restore, the program probably sent it's server a "scam" alert as the program didn't respond after, So I had to uninstall it manually, removing the files and all the registry entres. Now, week later, I notice that my computer is downloading EPICALLY slow. My speed is 11mbs, on my alternate computer, it will download a 11 mb file in less then a second, but on the laptop, 25 minutes? No way is that possible.
I did some registry scans, with wisecare 365, fixed the registry and download time has come down to 13 seconds, which is still crazy long,
I need to access Computer Configuration in order to navigate to User Rights. Does anyone know how to access Computer Configuration?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I built a new computer yesterday and when I ran a speed test today I was only getting 9.5mbps when I usually get over 30mbps. It has something to do with this computer since my other computer is getting 30mbps. And yes this computer is connected directly through and ethernet cable.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two harddrives, the primary one 584 GB, the secondary one 1.36 TB. When booting, my computer takes about a minute or two to fully load, but if I start to actually use it, virtually all programs will move slowly, consume lots of memory, explorer windows will take forever to load, and even cause my video card to stutter a bit.
A while ago, I unplugged the secondary drive, and found that my computer booted up much faster, and was infinitely more stable soon after loading.
But with two harddrives, in order to maintain stability, I often wait up to 5 - 10 minutes after booting to the desktop, just to be safe.
Is this a normal symptom of having two huge harddrives, both of which are filled with about 500 GB each, and programs like Norton security suite and messenger programs all needing to boot up? Or is this a problem with the second harddrive?
i hope im posting in the right place. For the past 3 weeks my computer has had me so frustrated i dont know what to do. First off it started off just randomly powering off. Which got worse and worse. So we took it apart and made sure everything was clean and dust free etc. Now its not powering off as much but its freezing. Freezing alot. When it freezes you cant do anything. No cntl alt delete, you cant even move the mouse. Its like complete freeze. Also everytime it freezes when i try to restart the computer it hangs in bios about 5 times until finally after restarting it 5 more times i can make it back into windows. It keeps doing it and i have tried almost everything i can think of. I know its not overheating because i have been checking the tempurture of everything on the computer everyday. Everything is running super cool.
[code]...
I just want to be able to increase the speed of my fans beyond their spec, and have complete manual control over their RPMs without a care about the temps. I have a liquid cooling setup and the fans on my radiator as they are right now simply aren't cutting it. I have them hooked up to the motherboard in hopes of finding something to just boost their speed via software, but SpeedFan is the only thing I could find and it simply sucks for that purpose.
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy laptop will not load up. I can get it to the screen where it says repair computer, safe mode and all that. (advance boot options) but anytime I click any off them it goes to a screen where it says I need to put in the windows installer disk. I do not have any disk but I downloaded the repair disc from my other laptop. I put the disk in the computer and restart it and it just goes back to same screen. It does not automatic rebot, or ask me to rebot from disk.
View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically what happens is there's a sudden slowdown in computer performance. For example if I'm listening to a live stream, watching a video, or playing a game it will suddenly all go into slow motion for a few seconds and then return to normal speed. I know it's more of a global problem because I can see it happening with other programs, too. When a web page is loading the load speed may suddenly go very slowly for a few seconds, or even if I'm typing in Microsoft Word I'll keep hitting keys, and the keystrokes will be logged, but no words will appear for a few seconds and then it will suddenly have to catch up.
What I've tried to do: A friend suggested my CPU was overloaded, but I checked my CPU usage and it's always quite low, as in below 50% as far as I've ever seen. Someone else suggested defragmenting my hard drive, which I did using TuneUp Utilities, but if anything that made the problem worse, because now in addition to slowing down sometimes things will just stop for a few seconds, or web pages will time out but when I reload them they work fine. My machine: I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad, intel Core i7, 4 GB RAM.
How To Speed Up Windows 7 - Speed Tweaks by doing the following:-

Disable Hibernation
I'm having trouble with my very new computer (Lenovo Y480 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit), which I've narrowed down to the following sequence:
1. I restored computer to original factory settings (to rule out possible causes)
2. I ran msconfig, and checked the boxes 'Safe Mode' and 'Networking.' I got the following error message:"System configuration cannot save the original boot configuration for later restoration. Boot changes will be reverted. The system cannot find the file specified"
3. The default boot option disappeared from the boot menu (Windows 7, default OS, current OS).
4. When I restarted my computer, it would not boot and gave me the error 0xc00034, stating that the file BootBCD was missing.
I did not do anything else with my computer after restoring the factory settings, and I did not connect to the internet. I originally encountered the problem when I wanted to try installing Windows updates in safe mode after some of the installations failed. I have replicated the error several times, including after successfully installing all Windows updates.
During a full system restore of my computer i didn't realize it was not charging and left it to finish the restore. Shortly coming back later, it had died so i rebooted it. During the reboot, it did its normal process well restoring," Setup is starting services.", but then during the process when gathering windows data to restore the computer in its final stages, it gives me the message" Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer." Shortly after starting my computer, going through the same process, it gives me that message again, and then it repeats, and eventually of course, goes into a circle of completing the same issue.

After reading through many posts, I downloaded HD Tune to check speeds. I have my 3.0 WD hard drive and my 2.0 seagate drive both plugged into the 3.0 pci-express card.
WD 3.0 drive average transfer rate = 36MB/s
seagate 2.0 drive average transfer rate = 36MB/s
my internal hard drive average transfer rate = 69MB/s
The pci-e card is showing up as usb 3.0 is device manager..why I'm not getting any speed boost with my new card and hard drive?
I'm looking at getting a new graphics card. I have set a budget of about $250 US. And I like nVidia. So that puts me in the GTX660 class of cards, pretty much. Now for that budget I see there are cards that have more VRAM - 3GB vs 2GB,or they have a slightly faster GPU speed and a faster shader clock. All the other specs remain the same for all cards in this class. But to get both it looks like I need to bump up to the Ti version and a $280+ budget. What do you think is the best bang for the buck? How important is any of this - or is it just splitting hairs? My primary application is CAD work using AutoCAD.
