Computer Keeps Configuration Boot Error?

Feb 15, 2012

I have been having trouble with my computer being slow. After doing a repair install it is better, but it did not correct the "freezing up" part of it. Sometimes I can correct it by just clicking all over the screen and other times to ctrl, alt, del and click on different user, but it is a pain. Any one know why it would be freezing up?

Boot Configuration Error !

Jun 3, 2011

I was running Windows 7 on a Dell Vostro 3700 Laptop..After doing a spyware scan and finding and deleting all the entries I found, the next time I turned it on I get the error: oxc000000f "An error occured while attmepting to read the boot configuration data File: BootBCD"

I have looked online for solutions and tried using the Windows 7 disc (a copy) and also tried using 3 recovery disks, these all fail because it just stays completely black with a cursor (left for hours even) or I get a error message something around the lines of "insert correct boot media into the correct boot device" and I have no idea what this means. I cannot do a repair because I can only get the Windows disc to load if I remove the hard drive?? this is the only way I have got it past the green loading bar, so I am stuck and have no idea what to do..it only seems to respond to cds if the hard drive is removed?.. this all happened very suddenly and now I have a very expensive 800 paperweight

To add to this - I also tried the command prompt typing the bootrec.exe code that I found on the internet..selecting command prompt from the option when the Windows 7 disc was loaded, but basically it came up with an error of some sort and it had a drive letter of X:/ on the command prompt ?? ..Also to get to this the hard drive was removed because like I said I cannot get the discs working with it in.. I'm guessing this means the hard drive is screwed but there is clearly a problem with the boot sector and I have no idea on repairing it now.

Error Occurred While Attempting To Read Boot Configuration Data

Jan 13, 2013

I'm getting this every time I boot up my computer. It happened after I had my computer on "sleep". When I woke up and tried to open my laptop, it shut off and showed me this:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc an restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: BootBCD
Status: 0xc0000001
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

It simply takes me to the same screen when I hold "F8". So I cannot get the "Repair your computer." Option. I do not have the windows installation disc. Also, all I can do is basically start up my computer and it takes me to that screen every time.

Computer Boot Configuration Is Corrupt 0x460 And Randomly Shutting Down?

Feb 15, 2012

i hope im posting in the right place. For the past 3 weeks my computer has had me so frustrated i dont know what to do. First off it started off just randomly powering off. Which got worse and worse. So we took it apart and made sure everything was clean and dust free etc. Now its not powering off as much but its freezing. Freezing alot. When it freezes you cant do anything. No cntl alt delete, you cant even move the mouse. Its like complete freeze. Also everytime it freezes when i try to restart the computer it hangs in bios about 5 times until finally after restarting it 5 more times i can make it back into windows. It keeps doing it and i have tried almost everything i can think of. I know its not overheating because i have been checking the tempurture of everything on the computer everyday. Everything is running super cool.

"An Error Occurred While Attempting To Read The Boot Configuration"

Aug 7, 2012

So this morning my computer was working and I went downstairs to grab something, came upstairs to find that it was off. When i turned it back on my computer ressponded with the "An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration" problem. I popped in my installation disc to see if maybe I can repair it or even if all else failed just reformat and reinstall. Well when I get windows won't even reconize my operating system or the SSD/HDD that I have in there. I've wandered through the forums trying to find a solution and I can't seem to find a solution. Bios detects both SDD/HDD in Bios configuration but when I go to windows repair/install it doesn't even recognize them as being there. I've tried unplugging all other drives except the SSD (the SSD being the one with windows installed on it).

"System Configuration Cannot Save The Original Boot Configuration For Later Restoration"

Nov 15, 2012

I'm having trouble with my very new computer (Lenovo Y480 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit), which I've narrowed down to the following sequence:

1. I restored computer to original factory settings (to rule out possible causes)

2. I ran msconfig, and checked the boxes 'Safe Mode' and 'Networking.' I got the following error message:"System configuration cannot save the original boot configuration for later restoration. Boot changes will be reverted. The system cannot find the file specified"

3. The default boot option disappeared from the boot menu (Windows 7, default OS, current OS).

4. When I restarted my computer, it would not boot and gave me the error 0xc00034, stating that the file BootBCD was missing.

I did not do anything else with my computer after restoring the factory settings, and I did not connect to the internet. I originally encountered the problem when I wanted to try installing Windows updates in safe mode after some of the installations failed. I have replicated the error several times, including after successfully installing all Windows updates.

Can't Boot Into Original OS After Dual Boot Configuration

Feb 23, 2012

I recently added a hard drive to my computer (SSD), and installed Windows 7 x64 onto it. The result being a dual boot system, which by default boots to the SSD, and optionally (by Windows Boot Menu), can be booted to the original drive (standard mechanical drive).

Initial setup went fine, however I decided to customize the Windows Boot Menu, so that logical names could be associated with each operating system instance. To do this I used EasyBCD and I altered the names in the Windows Boot Menu from: Quote:

Windows 7
Windows 7

to... Quote:

Windows 7 - SSD
Windows 7 - Standard Drive

Shortly after the modification I noticed that I was no longer able to boot into the original OS. Instead I was being presented with a "Repair Windows" option. Figuring that my EasyBCD "tampering" may have had something to do with the issue I decided to change the names back to "Windows 7" in the Windows Boot Menu. However doing so had no positive impact on boot up of the original OS.

After booting again into the original OS I accepted the "Repair Windows" option, and then left the computer over night to do it's "thing". After completion of the "Repair" the situation has deteriorated -

* Windows doesn't load (the same as before)

* Windows doesn't present a "Repair Windows" option (it did before)

* The computer reboots a short period after the "Starting Windows" screen is presented

As a side note the drive is in good health, and all data on it can be read from within Windows 7 when I boot to the SSD OS.

Also, is it as simple as placing the new drive in and then installing a copy of windows on it or do I have to do some other steps prior to that?

Boot Configuration Is Corrupt

Oct 21, 2009

Setup a test PC at work the other for Windows 7 32 Bit and Windows 7 64 Bit (dual boot). Set the dual boot up with EasyBCD. It was working fine until about 20 minutes ago.

I have tried the automatic startup repair but it does not fix the problem. I have also gone through Bootsect.exe and Bootrec.exe commands and they have succesfully written new MBR's and Bootsectors yet the PC still restarts. I have had to /force the previous commands to run.

I have also tried Chkdsk /r but for some reason it just runs through very quickly and finds no errors.

Any ideas as the PC's also have the virtual XP setup.

Cannot Change Boot Configuration

May 11, 2009

I downloaded the RC from the microsoft site. While attempting to install every is good and going well and I am doing an custom install which is supposed to be a clean install. I get really far in after expanding files and a couple reboots and while completing the installation near the end i receive the error:

Windows could not change the boot configuration. Windows installation cannot continue.

I have looked around for the answer and it requires you to go into registry and change some things. However I can no longer get back into the orginal OS because I choose to do a clean install rather than an upgrade. Cause I felt this would be the best option for me. I just bought a new hard drive hopeing it will fix the problem but I would rather not use it.

is there any way to fix this problem without a new harddrive? And is there a way to wipe the hard drive for a true clean install without being able to get into the OS? Thanks for any help

Won't Successfully Boot - Last Known Good Configuration

May 11, 2009

Those two IE8 patches from Windows Update seemed to really kill my system. I don't even use IE. I installed the patch, restarted, and my computer would not boot. Random services / processes would crash followed by WerFault crashing... I went into safe mode and system a system restore, and I thought all was good. But now, I have to continually choose to use last known good configuration from the boot options to get into windows. If I don't, it'll proceed to crash. Is there any way to make windows use the LKGC as my current config??

So how do I get the master boot record into the Win 7 partition so I can delete the partition containing the XP OS?

Boot Configuration Problem Preventing Install

May 4, 2009

I'm attempting to dual boot Windows7x64 7100 with the Vistax64 i currently have installed on my Acer Aspire 5100. I have created a new simple volume partition of 16GB on my drive and have attempted to do a clean install on this drive using the Windows 7 iso DVD I made.

The files are all extracted, updates are installed and everything runs smoothly until after the system has restarted during the installation, launching Windows 7 where it attempts to "finalize" or "complete" installation. The progress bar gradually makes its way towards completion when all of a sudden it tells me that

"Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed."

I have read many forums offering advice on this error with no success for my problem. I have attempted the registry fix with PartMgr, which didn't need to be fixed in the first place and have also attempted installation with Norton Antivirus uninstalled. Each with no success.
