Computer Freezes When Loading 7 News
Mar 5, 2011
my laptop belonged to my brother and had very little use, he gave it to me and i put norton security on it, whenever i load a site with a few pictures it freezes and a message on the bottom of the screen says loading an ad (not always the same one, a few different ones). i don't use the computer a lot, mainly i like to check the news (used to anyway) but now it just freezes and i cant click on anything. sometimes if i start it up and shut it down a few times it does work but this is very time consuming. also ebay does not work, just freezes when i click on a picture. strangely enough my son likes Internet and this works perfectly, you can view videos with no interruptions.

I just put this computer together (check out my specs) and put the OS DVD in to install. It goes through the motions of "loading files" and then when it says "starting windows" it gets just to the point where you can see all 4 colored orbs and it freezes. How do I fix this issue and install windows 64bit?

I just got a copy of windows 7(64-bit ultimate, because its from my college its the upgrade version) and I'm having some install troubles. The installation keeps freezing right when it finishes loading the dvd.
Currently on windows xp. We know the dvd works (tried it in a different computer) and the dvd drive in this system works (tried using different operating systems). I can move the mouse around, and no keyboard shortcuts appear to work. I had the windows 7 beta installed a ways back, so I know the OS works on this system.

I've been trying to install Windows 7 for days now...with no luck at all so far...and I'm getting quiet frustrated as you can imagine.
The installation always stops after the installer loads the files, screen freezes on the windows logo, and the progress bar stops immediately stops moving (or it freezes even before the logo is even fully displayed). The DVD then stops and no matter how long I wait nothing happens from there. If I run the text mode install, it stops on disk.sys.
I've looked everywhere on the net and tried many things:
unplugged anything not necessary during install (all usb, got rid of sound card, tried another graphic card, removed ram, switched ram position)
cleared cmos, no change
bios: disabled all unecessary (floppy (I don't use any) enabled/disabled parallel/serial port (for some it was a fix on other mobo's...or so I have read), messed around with lots of settings
tried other DVD drive, burned another DVD.
Now this issue isn't new to me, since I have never been able to install vista either. xp and ubuntu gave me a lot of problems too, but with xp pressing F7 during the initial loading would solve the issue and the install would run fine, on ubuntu adding no acpi would also allow install. With vista and windows 7 setup, pressing F7 during the file load doesn't apparently work, and I don't know how to bypass the acpi check.
If I try to run the install within xp, I get a compatibility report saying that my computer isn't acpi compatible...while the k7s8x bios clearly says it is. I tried enabling/disabling the acpi in the bios and it makes no difference (my bios is the last available, the 2.60)
I have seen people asking for k7s8x lan drivers for windows 7 on this forum, so I guess it is possible to install vista/windows 7 on this mobo after all.
Any suggestions welcome, as I'm completely out of ideas now!

Windows 7 started to hang on loading screen, just before colored balls show up. So I put in windows 7 cd, made sure boot order was correct in bios, attempted to run repair, but cd loads to a black screen. So i make a boot-able usb for win 7 try the same thing but it gets stuck at windows loading files. So I make a recovery cd on another computer with win7 as OS. Same problem. So I do memtest, surface test, everything checks out fine. This whole time ubuntu will boot fine (Ive had dual boot working fine for over a year). I use ubuntu to get all the files I need of the host machine and use mini tools partition wizard to wipe the hdd thinking maybe i need a fresh install of win7. Same problem persists with failure of cd and usb of win 7. Trying a boot-able usb of ubuntu, it works no problem, OS boots everything, flawless.I continue to try to get windows working because i need it to remote in for work. On oddity is that if it the first time i boot the computer for the day the windows cd boots and i can install the OS but on the first restart it hangs at the same spot as above. This screams power supply issue, so I wipe the hdd again and swap in a new psu. Windows cd boots, installs, loads fine. I install chrome, steam, quicken, rename the computer which requires restart! and then it fails at the same spot. In retrospect I should have used to good boot to install chipset drivers, unfortunately i am yet to be able to get back into the OS via any means. Other things I have tried:
-Boot to cd with HDD disconnected.
-Boot to usb with dvd disconnected.
-Update Bios to latest version.
-Wipe the hdd with minitools, turn off computer, take battery out of mobo to reset cmos. Still no dice.
Only thing i can figure is its chipset drivers? But I need to be able to install the OS to run the asus installer.Motherboard is Asus P5B deluxe.

I just turned on an almost new build pc to install windows 7. The entire pc is a new build except the hard drive that has a good copy of xp installed. I am trying to install a new copy of windows 7 on the hard drive. So I turned the pc on and go into the bios to set the DVD to boot first. So windows starts to install and the window is loading bar comes up. After the bar gets over half full, the screen drops and there is a line of h's on the left side of the screen and the installation freezes.

I recently finished building my custom pc, and tried installing Windows 7 Home Premium on it. I got to where it says "Windos is loading files", the white bar filled up, then it would repeat but slower. So far so good, but then it took me to the screen with the background, where one would normally log in to a user account, but it was completely blank, except for the cursor. So I rebooted the PC and tried reistalling it, and then after the "Windows is loading files" screens, it just gave me a blank black screen with only the cursor visable. I tried this several times but always got the same result. Now, i just the blue screen of death. When i don't boot from the CDROM, my computer freezes at "Verifying DMI Pool Data....." I tried resetting my CMOS, but that didn't change anything, so i'm pretty sure I'm getting that message because there's no operating system because Windows 7 won't seem to finish its installation. The HDD i bought said it came prepared for Windows 7 so there shouldn't have to be any formatting or whatnot done. I am thoroughly perplexed

Computer is a couple years old, self built, no issues. Watching hulu and suddenly there's a crackling sound, a flash of light, and screen freezes (not bsod, just total freeze). No biggie, reboot. Won't reboot. Get's to "Starting Windows" and freezes.
Figured it's a ram or hard drive issue. Long story short, quick trip to Fry's, put in brand new hard drive & one stick of brand new ram (completely took out old ram and old hard drives). Took out wireless card, unplugged all usb, except for new usb (wired) keyboard.
Put in Window's installation DVD, boot from CDRom, it gets to "Windows is loading files" and about the third time it completes a status bar, it freezes there. I've rebooted a few times, same issue. Swapped out the one new ram for the second stick that came in the pack, same thing.
So...not hard drive, not ram, not wireless card, not any usb thingy plugged in, system temps have been fine lately. Based on the sudden noise/flash seems like a hardware thing, but can't pinpoint.
System Specs: Antec case, corsair 750W power supply, Gigabit UDP3 motherboard, intel i5-750, evga GeForce GTX260 vid card, and as of tonight a corsair 4gb ddr3 1333x ram, and wd caviar green 1tb hard drive.
I'm going to try to take out the video card (pita) in the mean time.

I recently built a new computer and only had 2 SATA cables, so I had my SSD and HDD plugged in. This morning I went to plug my dvdrom in. I realized my HDD was plugged into a SATA2 port so I switched it to the SATA3, and plugged the dvdrom into the SATA2 port. I was always told it isn't a problem. A few hours later. I get bluescreened (happens every couple of days). But then I get a disk read error ~20 min later... I don't know if it matters, but then my main program crashes ~15 min later. After reloading it, ~15 later again, I get thick vertical *fuzzy plaid-like* lines and comp freezes. Restarted and now I'm experiencing where my computer freezes within a minute or two, with those huge vertical block lines. (I've seen similar when someone overclocked their GPU too high) I am not even running apps, just turning it on and this happens... Haven't done updates in several days. System is in my sig. I didn't build it, my tech-savvy friend installed everything. Windows 7 64-bit.

I am having a problem with my computer to where I can't load windows without my computer unexpectedly shutting down. I just got a new video card and did not load drivers for it. I just plugged it right in. I am thinking this might be the cause. I tried booting using my other video card and it still did not work though and those are the correct drivers that I had before. I have tried another power supply, ran a memtest, reapplied thermal paste and reseated my cooler. I have also tested a different hard drive and still the same thing. I do not have integrated graphics on my mobo so I cannot boot from my motherboard for a display. The green light for my motherboard is still on so I'm thinking that's not the problem.
Specs: motherboard Asus p5nd
Processor intel q9300 quad core
video card gtx 460 (old one is a 8800gt)

So my computer, one year of age, started to stop loading at the windows loading screen. Last week, O was on my computer browsing the net and listening to music when I click on a button in iTunes and the computer crashes. I restart the computer but when it gets to the starting windows loading screen, it loads for a little bit like normal, but then the screen flashes black and the monitor says it loses signal and stays disconnected. The computer stays running even when the screen says there is no signal.
So I think for a bit and decide to just reload windows because my computer was starting to get cluttered anyway. So I reinstall windows without a problem and the computer runs fine for the weekend and Monday. But this morning it started to do this all over again.
I ran the windows repair disk and it told me that there is a device plugged in that should be unplugged and restart. But I had nothing plugged in so I tried unplugging almost everything short of the power cable and monitor, but still no luck.

Computer runs very slow. Computer freezes randomly. Does not want to boot past windows startup except for in safe mode(SOMETIMES). IF IT BOOTS takes and an incredibly long time to get to the desktop (20-45min). Does not want to run programs. Runs EXTREMELY slowly (makes a windows 95 pc look like a speed demon.) Random restarts, restart loops, and shutdowns. Sometimes after turning on it will immediately shut off then turn back on. Keeps recommending windows repair on startup. Wants to run chkdsk, then freezes on it.Malware detection programs. Hardware diagnostic programs. registry tools. disk defrags. Driver updates. Windows updates. BIOS update. System restore. Windows repair tool. Repair installation (twice). WINDOWS 7 CLEAN INSTALLATION (twice).Exactly the same as the first day it started happening. So not only did I lose all programs and files, but my pc still runs like crap. Also, this is a higher end pc under a year old. [code]

Yesterday I left my pc running, and when I came back, found a black screen.Rebooting, I came across some random characters in the POST and also in BIOS, after which, the same black screen. I googled this, removed the video card and the bios and post look normal now( i use the onboard video), but when trying to load windows, the pc reboots.I tried system repair, chkdsk. When trying to boot in safe mode, it loads up to "AtiPcie.sys", then reboots.

I've run into a problem recently with my computer. I haven't played any games since early in the year and, if I remember correctly, haven't installed or changed anything much since then. But when I went to boot up Sims 3 for my cousin it repeatedly crashed while on the loading screen. I put this down to their awful patches and typically buggy games. But I today I went to start Skyrim and the same thing happened.
As soon as the loading screen finished my computer switched off and restarted. This happens repeatedly - I cannot get further than the loading screen without my computer restarting. I've played both of these games without any issue in the past year. I've since cleaned out the inside of my PC, updated the BIOS and drivers, and monitored the temperatures for the CPU and GPU. Everything seems normal.
My specs are:
Intel Core i7 950
Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit
Asus P6TD Deluxe
AMD Radeon HD 6800
4GB RAM

My hubby is running Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit on an Emachines PC.
Intermittently picture thumbnails and program icons will suddenly stop showing up and will turn to only blank white icons. (Sometimes it affects a few files or the whole folder) You can see the thumbnails one minute, go out and back into the directory, and they are gone. Refreshing the folder view does not bring the thumbs back.
Going into other folders is fine and thumbnails show, but once it fails on a particular folder, it will continue to NOT show thumbs or icons for that folder until a restart is done. We have also tried to clean the thumbnails cache to no avail. This problem happens on all drives, flash drives, network drives, local drives, etc...)
There is one other bug that may be related. Sometimes his My Computer will not load. He can get to My Documents etc... but My Computer hangs forever until he restarts. It is an intermittent problem as well so hard to debug.

I have a question regarding the install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. I've done this on one HDD successfully and due to conflicts with additional software I wish to reinstall Windows 7 on a completely new HDD (on the same machine). This way I can keep both programs separate also leaving me with an additional OS in case the other fails. I plan to use the BIOS to switch to the other drive (boot order) when I wish to use the other software on occassion. I plan on backing up my files onto an external drive. So my question is as such, can I load Windows 7 onto a separate drive and switch the drive of which to boot from to achieve my goal?

I am having trouble with my laptop. It says I am connected to the internet, but whenever I open a browser( Chrome, Firefox or IE) it doesn't open any web pages. I get the message "the remote device or resource won't accept the connection". And it's not the router because we have another laptop in the house connected to the same router and it works fine. I have a Lenovo V570. Also my laptop works fine on other connections and routers, just for some reason doesn't accept this one.

The reason why I ask is if it copies the product key aswell we could be in some serious trouble with the auditors.Branching off from my last question, is there anyway to assign a computer name and issue the pc a domain when the image is loading? Or is this not possible?

my computer started laggin really bad, couldnt even move mouse without major lag. Anyways so i got sick of it and reinstalled windows 7 64 bit, now my computer gets stuck at loading operating system. Thought it was SSD so took it out and put in a 500gp wd hard drive (I know it works fine, becuase had it run on company server all week before i used it) so then i installed it on their and still was stuck so then i took out my other 500gb wd hard drive where i store all my files, just so i could make sure that my OS can only install on one item and not be corrupted by any other drives. So now the problem still presit and i have tried resetting my bios by taking out battery for 10 min, still no results, so then i ran startup repair (Had no hope) and it still didnt work. Need help and bellow I will post all my hardware, by the way my computer is a custom build and has been working fine for 2-3 months. Also I do overclock, but i doubt that had anything to do with it, because it started to lag weeks after i started overclocking. [code]
