May 28, 2012i changed a Bios setting on my Toshiba Satellite Pro L640 now my laptop won't post and keep going to the internal recovery utility?.

No Post, No Bios, No Boot From CD?
Nov 26, 2011Seems to be Deadand now other other HP desktop (with the identical motherboard) is now failing as well. This one is a pc6000, and all I ever get is the screen that displayes the BIOS, processor, CPU speed and the 4 memory banks. So far, so good.Then it says Initializing USB controllers.DoneThen several blank lines before it says Press <F10> to enter SetupThen nothing... although sometimes after the 'Done' line it says 1st Drive: None2nd Drive: None3rd Drive: None4th Drive: None00 USB mass storage devices found and configuredbefire going to a new screen where it sayseboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot media in selected Boot device and press a keyPressing any key just redisplays the msg.What could possible be going on with these 2 nearly identical HP desktops with the same mobo?

Nov 29, 2012So i returned to my work computer after lunch and the resolution had been changed to 800x600, very odd.Now i have spent 2 hours trying to get back my resolution to the 1680x1050 that is was before but i still can not choose anything higher then 1600x1200 under Screen Resolution settings. The one with the correct ratio i can choose is 1280x960 and i'd like to bigger one back.I have updated the driver for my graphics card (ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics accoridng to Device Manager). I have updated the driver for the Monitor (HP LE2201w), but the monitor still shows up as Generic Non-PnP Monitor under Device Manager and now i am out of ideas... I really have no idea what the hell happened when i was gone.(And yes, the computer was locked so it wasn't someone else changing something)Uninstalling the driver for the Generic device does nothing, it pops back up again after installing the correct display driver, or after a restart. It's like the display driver i downloaded from HP is not being installed, no idea why.

Jul 25, 2010I used to have Vista basic installed on my Medion Intel Core 2 Duo machine but then gave Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) a try.After buying Win 7 Ultimate I want to install it and erase Ubuntu (mainly because of poor support for Tascam audio/midi interfaces). I do not want to install them side by side and then erase Ubuntu as I want to avoid the Fix MBR issue.After inserting the installer DVD I get the usual message "Click any key to boot from CD" but pressing keys on my USB keyboard or mouse does not appear to do anything. I have tried various keyboards including serial port devices but the result is always the same.Has Ubuntu changed anything in the BIOS or else how can I solve this problem of not being able to use the keyboard when trying to boot?

Aug 19, 2010I have been incredibly stupid and changed the settings in my BIOS setup. What is even more stupid is I did this by making it "Load Optimal Defaults" so I dont actually know what has been changed.As a result of this windows 7 now cannot start, it brings you to the error fixing part where it searches for errors, cant find any and offers you some more options including system restore. Ive done a system restore but that has also not fixed it. I have little idea how to fix this, windows 7 was working perfectly until I changed the BIOS, but not knowing what was changed means I cant change it back.The BIOS version is: 4core1600twins-p35 p1.40.

Dec 19, 2012Yesterday I was attempting to wipe my hard drive as I was putting my laptop for sale. Whilst it was wiping my laptop crashed and would not re boot properly but I was able to access the BIOS . I stupidly changed some settings following some advice on a forum I now cannot find and when I tried to re boot it stays on the philips page for around 10 minutes. None of the keys work, like F12, F2 ect. After ten minutes it give me a screen thats says 1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".3.Click "Repair your computer."If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.Status: 0xc000000fThis is how I understand it as my system is in Polish and Polish is not my first language and with technical language I am not fluent and I beleive thats how I made the mistake in the first place in the BIOS.

Sep 18, 2011my computer was getting too hot i went into the BIOS and changed a few things like turning off the auto-controlled fan sensors, FSB i put down to 200 and the CPU voltage I changed to 1.0Volts. I started up windows again. This time though, the option for "hibernate" had disappeared. So i looked up how to put it back on. and changed the power settings to "never" allow "hybrid sleep". So now i have the option to hibernate again. But the strange part was this. When I put my computer to sleep now. It apparently shuts down fully. (no more blinking light) then i turn it on and it re awakes from sleep. It's actually nice to have it this way. I tested it to see if i could disconnect the power fully and then still restore it back from sleep. Sure enough it lets me disconnect the power for up to 5 seconds then i plug it back in and it will still restore back from sleep. I guess my question is. Is the computer using even less power now to keep the information on the RAM. I read somewhere that on average your computer uses about 6 watts while in sleep mode.

Nov 30, 2012Lets see if anyone can solve this one for me. Working with : ASUS M4A87TD EVO - BIOS version 2001 (latest) RAM - Corsair DDR3 4x4GB CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 (CPU-z says max bandwith is 667Mhz) Never had an issue until the day I changed the BIOS settings for the RAM to operate at 1600mhz. Playing CS GO and eep getting random crashes or freezes that send me through the reset cycle. requency is set at 1600Mhz and Timing row is set at 41 like it should be. Voltage stays the same 1.50V --->1.500V - wondering if setting the voltage to 1.65Vthats something I should stay away from. Rechecked made sure I had latest Bios, reflashed just to be on the safe side and still am having issues. I know there are no error screens or any sort of overheating going on, checked components and updates. all is in the green.

Nov 26, 2011I have a Z68 AP D3 gigabyte mother board with Smart Responce capable. I have a 1 t sata HD and a 64 SSD. Trying to set up Smart Response.
Gigabyte show a simple video to make it work. But not working for me. As soon as the bios are set to xHD, my windows no longer works. It say operation system is missing. But after change back to AHCI, windows works again.
Installing Intel Smart Response also cause Windows to crash. At boot up, the intial 4 lights that forms the window logo at boot up freeze, then the death blue screen shows up. Need to repair windows again.
Tried setting bios to xHD and install new windows, but windows cannot recogize any of the HD while on xHD. Drivers for RAID found on my motherboard CD does not work either.
Tried to change cables to Sata 3 port only, also not working. Sata port 2 also not working. why cant' my system read xHD configuration? Am I missing a module or hardware?

May 31, 2012I was trying to recover/reinstall win 7 and bring back my asus laptop to its manufacture state. When I run the recovery media (recovery dvd) that comes with my asus laptop and after answering the prompts, it gives off "missing operating system" message on an entirely black screen. I tried to go to the bios setting by hitting delete key upon boot-up but it does not respond. I switched off and back on several times trying the delete key every time but to no avail. TO:

[No RAID]
Everything worked great, no problem. So, since I don't have a RAID array anymore, I decided that I could change my BIOS setting to AHCI instead of RAID. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R v1.0 mobo.
These are my steps:Settings > Integrated Peripherals > "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" = RAID
--> Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome
Next Step:Launch BIOS settings Integrated Peripherals > "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" = RAID
--> Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome
Switch both settings back to RAID, reboot, and Windows starts up just fine, no issues.
What am I missing? Why can't I set it to AHCI mode without BSODs?
System Time Not Kept Correctly After Having Manually Changed BIOS Time
Apr 23, 2012I spilt some water on my laptop a few days ago but fortunately it's completely dried out and working perfectly.... apart from this minor (but important) issue.
Problem: the system time does not stay correct. Even after manually updating the BIOS time and also even after manually syncing it with the various servers available under the time options.
Fix: set the internet time sync interval to every minute rather than its default setting? How do I do this?
P.S. This couldn't be a CMOS battery issue surely because even when the system is on and plugged in the system time still deviates from correct. (I assume the CMOS battery is only used when the system is powered off.) If I need it replaced, how does that sit with my Dell hardware warranty?
Computer Doesn't Start Can't Get Into Bios Or Advanced Start Up Setting
Sep 17, 2012When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again.The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine.
usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.
Bios Clock Time Changes After Every Restart Even After Replacing Bios
Aug 23, 2011I've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.
Computer Hangs After Post
Jun 12, 2011Computer posts, then checks hard disk RAID status (Healthy), then a white blinking cursor appears on upper left corner on black screen, and hangs there forever, UNLESS i put in a Windows bootable CD, then based on my boot priority order (CD ROM, HD) it reads the CD, then it displays "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD...", for which i don't press anything, and the computer proceeds to boot Win 7 OS correctly. So basically it doesn't boot unless i just have a bootable CD in tray.

I'm trying to figure out which component might be causing this problem, if any. I've updated my bios, drivers, and ran memtest but nothing seemed out of the ordinary and it didn't fix the problem.

Nov 9, 2009I had no problems with the first two computers that I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, both were 64bit systems. I'm having post upgrade problems from vista to windows 7 with my 32 bit machine (Sony Vaio VGN-NR430E). THe machine did fine with the compability check for Windows 7.
Problems:
1) Some icons on the desktop are not appearing. Instead of the icon, I just have a white icon in it's place.
2) Taskbar icons are either white or blank. If I click on the white or blank icon the application will run, If I hover over the blank or white icon it tells me what application it is.
3) Control panel icons are not present.
4) Start menu icons and folders are white. If I click on them, it just hangs like it is trying to do something and will remain like that until explorer crashes.
Ideas that I tried but did not work:
1) Tried rerunning the Windows 7 upgrade. But when it gets to the compability check, the check just keeps running. eventually I then must cancel out of the upgrade
2) Tried a chkdsk at bootup. No errors, but it did not fix my problem.
3) Tried rebuilding the iconcache. Did not work
4) Tried some other type of scan (sfc /scannow)that was started from the command prompt. it did not work.

Oct 19, 2009First off, I just migrated over to Windows 7 Forums from Vistax64 and am excited.
I'm currently running Vista Home Premium 64-Bit on a Pentium i7 with 6gigs of Ram and a pretty hardcore video card. Plus, the computer is only 4 months old and i am a pretty tidy user with very little on the drive.
SO: I've elected to upgrade instead of clean install. Now, I'm not looking for any responses explaining to me why I'm an idiot for upgrading instead of doing a clean install because I'm not. I am aware of the drawbacks and I'm ok with them, though they form the backdrop to my question in this post.
There have been a lot of posts about why you should go for a clean install. I hope this post about upgrading gets some intelligent attention, too.
Here's my question: what steps can I (and other upgrading users) take post-upgrade to minimize the "dust" from my (our) old vista OS? For example, a good registry cleaning seems like a good place to start. But what else?
