Setting Bios To Xhd Will Not Boot Harddrive

Nov 26, 2011

I have a Z68 AP D3 gigabyte mother board with Smart Responce capable. I have a 1 t sata HD and a 64 SSD. Trying to set up Smart Response.

Gigabyte show a simple video to make it work. But not working for me. As soon as the bios are set to xHD, my windows no longer works. It say operation system is missing. But after change back to AHCI, windows works again.

Installing Intel Smart Response also cause Windows to crash. At boot up, the intial 4 lights that forms the window logo at boot up freeze, then the death blue screen shows up. Need to repair windows again.

Tried setting bios to xHD and install new windows, but windows cannot recogize any of the HD while on xHD. Drivers for RAID found on my motherboard CD does not work either.

Tried to change cables to Sata 3 port only, also not working. Sata port 2 also not working. why cant' my system read xHD configuration? Am I missing a module or hardware?

RAM BIOS Crashing After Setting To 1600Mhz?

Nov 30, 2012

Lets see if anyone can solve this one for me. Working with : ASUS M4A87TD EVO - BIOS version 2001 (latest) RAM - Corsair DDR3 4x4GB CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 (CPU-z says max bandwith is 667Mhz) Never had an issue until the day I changed the BIOS settings for the RAM to operate at 1600mhz. Playing CS GO and eep getting random crashes or freezes that send me through the reset cycle. requency is set at 1600Mhz and Timing row is set at 41 like it should be. Voltage stays the same 1.50V --->1.500V - wondering if setting the voltage to 1.65Vthats something I should stay away from. Rechecked made sure I had latest Bios, reflashed just to be on the safe side and still am having issues. I know there are no error screens or any sort of overheating going on, checked components and updates. all is in the green.

Missing Operating System, Del Key Does Not Work Going To Bios Setting

May 31, 2012

I was trying to recover/reinstall win 7 and bring back my asus laptop to its manufacture state. When I run the recovery media (recovery dvd) that comes with my asus laptop and after answering the prompts, it gives off "missing operating system" message on an entirely black screen. I tried to go to the bios setting by hitting delete key upon boot-up but it does not respond. I switched off and back on several times trying the delete key every time but to no avail. It's an ASUS N61J Series with intel i7.

Im going to change the setting to AHCI in the bios and then install windows 7 on the SSD. Once i get into windows i was going to plug in the old Hard drives. With the old hard drives being used when my computer was on IDE will they be able to be read or will all the data be lost.

No Device Drivers Found - Setting Drive Configuration To IDE In BIOS

Jan 13, 2013

I recently bought two Sandisk SSD's to run in RAID for my rapidly aging computer. I'm currently installing windows 7 (x64) on my new drives and I get the "no device drivers found" message that has haunted me in the past. I remember previously I resolved this issue on my Samsung F1 by setting the drive configuration in my BIOS to IDE, of course, this is not possible now as it must be set to RAID.

Switching BIOS SATA RAID/AHCI Setting Causes BSOD At Windows Start

Mar 30, 2012

I just changed my disk setup from:

1 SATA HDD Primary OS Disk
2x SATA HDD Backup Disks in RAID 1

TO:

1 SATA SSD Primary OS Disk
1 SATA HDD Backup Disk
[No RAID]

Everything worked great, no problem. So, since I don't have a RAID array anymore, I decided that I could change my BIOS setting to AHCI instead of RAID. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R v1.0 mobo.

These are my steps:Settings > Integrated Peripherals > "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" = RAID
--> Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome
Next Step:Launch BIOS settings Integrated Peripherals > "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" = RAID
--> Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome
Switch both settings back to RAID, reboot, and Windows starts up just fine, no issues.

What am I missing? Why can't I set it to AHCI mode without BSODs?

Harddrive Won't Partition For Dual Boot

Jul 12, 2009

I'm currently running Windows 7 and I'm trying to partition my hard drive so I can dual boot Mac os x Leopard. I have 133 GB free on my 230 GB internal hard drive, but when I partition the drive the computer will only let me open about 5 GB of space. I have defragged the drive and nothing changed.

I am new to dual booting and I am really only doing this as an experiment. If anyone can give me any advice as to how I can partition more space or how much is needed I would be very grateful.

Computer Doesn't Start Can't Get Into Bios Or Advanced Start Up Setting

Sep 17, 2012

When i got home today didn't my computer work, my girlfriend has been the last one using it. So don't know how things were just before the shutdown or anything.when i turn on the computer i get to the screen where "touch bios" is and where i can see the options like Bios settings, boot menu, xpress recovery.but i cant press anything, and after about two seconds on that screen the PC shuts down again. The keyword lights up so there is a responds on it, but just doesn't work to press anything before it shuts down.I've got BSOD upto several times a day for a few months time.believe that my computer is affected by some virus or something is delaying my computer. might be an combination of several things.I got no external things hugged up to the stationeer computer right now.it is a windows 7 x64 machine.
usually when i get issues i can access advanced boot up or bios, but can neither in this case..I wonder if it might be a hardware issue.

Choosing Which OS To Boot By Changing BIOS Boot Order

Oct 26, 2009

I am choosing which OS to boot by changing the boot order in my BIOS. To me, this seems clean and simple. I built 32 bit XP on one disk, then removed that disk from my system, installed a different disk, and built 64 bit Windows 7.

When both disks are installed, I change the boot order to select the OS I want, and each OS sees and can use the files on either disk.

Am I asking for trouble here, or is this as clean as I think it is? What I want is one set of user document files which can be used from whichever OS has been booted.

Setting Up Dual Boot

May 5, 2009

I got my new drive. I'm about to set it up. Run some HDTune to check it. then load of Win 7 on my new speedy HD.

I had a question. I'm going to be dual booting with Vista on my current seagate 500.. and I'll be loading 7 to my new WD Black 640GB. So I understand I get it all installed. Restart the PC. then from here what do I do to make sure it writes to the NEW drive, and doesn't reformat the old.. I'd hate for that to happen.

I don't need to unplug my old 500GB or anything drastic right. I can simply just enter the BIOS. Change the boot order for it to load from CD.. and then I get to choose what drive to install 2.. and that will be the one I choose. right?? the 640GB. or would I need to set the 640GB for Master. and then reboot with CD in..

Also my new drive didn't come with a master/slave pin. so should I unplug my old HD when getting ready to install so I don't copy over it. or no?

I've basically never installed 2 OS's on the same computer before so just asking some of these basic questions.

Setting Up A Dual Boot Windows 7 & XP?

May 23, 2011

Have Windows 7 installed on the C drive partition of a large (1 TB) HD. On the other D partition is Win XP. The problem is that the people who built the computer used a bogus copy of XP to set it up. I have a real one and want to replace the bogus one. I thought I could change the boot order in the BIOS and have the computer boot to the MSFT XP disc. But after I change the boot order to the DVD drive it still boots to the screen with the choice of Windows 7 or XP. If I choose XP, I am in WinXP and can't get the CD to overwrite the bogus XP. I do not want to chance anything happening to my Windows 7 installation as it's perfect and has a lot of work in building all the programs etc.

When Setting Up Dual Boot, Anything To Watch Out For ?

Jun 26, 2009

The machine that I've installed Windows 7 on is an older machine that I would like to use for trying out various operating systems, and even installing a small DOS partition so I can play around with some old DOS stuff I used to enjoy.

The computer currently has four smaller hard disks installed: two 30 gigs, two 20 gigs. Win 7 is installed on one of the 30 gigs.

Initially, I want to keep things simple, and pretty much dedicate one drive to one OS. For sure, I plan to install Linux, probably the Ubuntu distribution. And possibly OS/2.

What I don't want to do is find unpleasant surprises after I try installing other OSes, such as not being able to get into Windows 7 anymore.

I have a copy of System Commander v9, but I am not all that enthusiastic about the way it chooses to set up OS installations.

There's bound to be folks here who have dual (or more) boot setups they're running with Win 7 as one of the OSes, and I'd appreciate hearing from you if you have any pointers to share.

Setting Up Dual Boot On A Flash Drive

Dec 2, 2009

[Solved] Setting up Dual Boot on a flash drive that isn't always plugged in. I have windows 7 Home Premium installed on my desktop but I was hoping for a way to set up an installation of Windows XP on a 16GB flash drive that I have.

Not even thinking I just figured I would give it a try and I booted to my Windows XP disc and installed all of the files to the flash drive. Well needless to say it messed up my MBR and then wouldn't boot to the flash drive or to my internal hard drives anymore.

I was able to fix it by using the Windows 7 disc to repair startup but I still am not able to boot to Windows XP on the flash drive.

Is there any way to do this? I know I need to make some changes to the bootloader but I'm not sure exactly what to do. Is there a way to make it so it will automatically boot Windows 7 unless I put the flash drive in first and prompt it to as the computer starts up?

HDD Bios Boot Failed

Feb 13, 2013

I've recently purchased a used A665-3DV6 Toshiba Satellite Laptop. It had the BIOS password problem. So I've jumped the CMOS and cleared the password. I've initiated the "out of box state" and it went through the whole process. When it was finished I shut down the computer. Then the next morning I booted the computer up and it stated "HDD Boot Failed". I tried running Factory reset again but there is only a blinking cursor on the top left hand corner of the screen.

Boot Lag At Bios Logo

May 9, 2009

I have this weird issue since i installed Comodo Firewall 3.9

I start the computer, the bios logo loads up, it takes 1.5 mins (like 10 sec before) till it continues to the windows boot manager, from there on everything works fine.

So far ive updated my bios, loaded the defaults without any success.

I also disabled my bios "quick boot" feature, and it seems that it lags for 1.5mins at the point where it checks that everything is ok, it says something like: CPU: amd athlon 64...xxxx, thats where it takes 1.5mins, then continues to test memory etc but that took too long for me, and i ran a memtest 2 days ago without any problems.

I wondered if it could be in any way possible that the firewall i installed is causing the problem, as far as i know its not officially Windows 7 compatible.

Some specs that might be useful:

ASUS Crosshair (Newest bios)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+

ASUS ATI EAH4850

2GB of DDR2 memory

Ask if you need any other information.

Can Select Which Partition To Boot From Using BIOS

Jun 15, 2012

I have a laptop that I have set-up with 3 OS's; windows 7 (to use), windows 8 (to learn), and Linux (to do everything else). The other day I noticed a few issues and decided I needed to remove windows 8 and Ubuntu in order to prevent a system crash (kinda ironic once you read the whole thing). When I installed Ubuntu and windows 8, I created a 45gb partition for them. Not a big deal. The problem is when I removed ubuntu/windows 8 and their partition, I forgot to set something with the windows 7 partition so it was the main boot partition. Now its trying to boot from a partition on the hard disk that doesn't exist. I know for a fact that the windows partition is completely functional and intact. It's a rookie mistake and I make no excuses. At this point I'm 90% sure I need to reinstall windows 7, which I can easily do as I have restore disks and multiple back-ups. I was just curious if there is a way to change this either through BIOS or using a USB/SATA cable to externally boot and access Windows 7 system files.

Stuck Between BIOS And Windows 7 Boot

Jul 5, 2012

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad X60 laptop with Win7 32-bit Ultimate and an SSD (I know, I know, just go with it. I'm building a desktop soon). I could list the specs, but that's useless for this problem (I'd think).

At times (not always), when either resuming from hibernate or booting up from a shut down, the computer generally freezes at the point right after the BIOS screen. So it's just a black screen. This is before the window that says "starting up" (literally a window... the Windows logo). Whenever it freezes, it NEVER goes to the boot screen of Windows. I'm assuming this is an error with the hard drive, since the OS is on the SSD and the boot screen is from the mobo. However, this only started happening after a rather heavy fall to the ground that cracked many parts of the plastic shell on the computer. It still works occasionally when I can get it to boot up (nothing different when it boots up... same settings and everything. Spontaneous).

I have tried:

1) Cold reboot
2) Removing battery
3) Going off only battery
4) Unplugging EVERYTHING from the computer

I have not tried chkdsk yet. Is it necessary? Also, would there be a log somewhere of what happened? It never booted into Windows.
