Long Delay Between POST And OS Integration?
Oct 30, 2011Intel 82801GH I/O Controller Hub (ICH7DH) SATA Controller in IDE mode. Windows 7, SP1, Home Premium, 32 bit. Plextor DVDR PX-L890A ATA Device. HD and CD-ROM both connected to black connectors on Intel D975XBX2 MoBo. BIOS set on default. With CD-ROM connected POST proceeds normally until it gets to "EB" test where it hangs for 2 minutes then proceeds to integrate with the OS. When integration complete, the CD-ROM and OS operate normally. If I disconnect the CD-ROM from the black connector, POST and integration proceed normally and rapidly.

Oct 23, 2012[code] I have Windows 7 64 bit in HDD1 and OS X Lion in HDD 2 that I installed using Hackintosh distro. I press F8 key on POST screen which gives boot drive selection menu from where I select the HDD to boot from.The system was running flawless on both operating systems until recently. The problems are listed below:
- Almost always it takes unusually long for POST screen to appear (around 60 to 90 seconds) whereas during good condition it used to appear within 5 to 10 seconds of power on
- Sometimes the system doesn't receive display signal
- If I take out power cables from all SATA drives but one, then the POST screen usually appears normally for sometime.
- At one time I removed ALL SATA drives, i.e. both HDDs and DVD then turned on, it turned on promptly without delay.
Then I connected Optical drive and turned on, it turned on properly. Then connected the HDDs one by one, and it still turned on without delay. But this lasted only for 2 days after which the same problem, i.e, either POST screen appears after painfully long time or doesn't appear at all.Before this motherboard, I had Intel DG43NB and had both Os X and Win 7 and experienced exactly the same problem and my hardware guy told me that my motherboard had gone down so I replaced with this ASUS one. Again the same problem with this board
- Where is the problem?
- Could the problem possibly be in the motherboard? I think it's unlikely because once the system starts it works flawlessly, i.e. no errors, no crashes, nothing.
- Could it be the power supply? Since it seems to work better with less load, i.e. some drives disconnected.
- Could it be the GPU?
- What's the best way to diagnose?
- Does the problem have anything to do with my frequently switching boot drive from POST startup menu?
No Post, No Bios, No Boot From CD?
Nov 26, 2011Seems to be Deadand now other other HP desktop (with the identical motherboard) is now failing as well. This one is a pc6000, and all I ever get is the screen that displayes the BIOS, processor, CPU speed and the 4 memory banks. So far, so good.Then it says Initializing USB controllers.DoneThen several blank lines before it says Press <F10> to enter SetupThen nothing... although sometimes after the 'Done' line it says 1st Drive: None2nd Drive: None3rd Drive: None4th Drive: None00 USB mass storage devices found and configuredbefire going to a new screen where it sayseboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot media in selected Boot device and press a keyPressing any key just redisplays the msg.What could possible be going on with these 2 nearly identical HP desktops with the same mobo?

Dec 15, 2012when the system boots, everything goes smooth and fast, untill the welcome screen show up, it takes like 25 seconds!
I've done everything, disabled some of the unnecessary startup progs in the msconfig, but what really annoys me is that on my older PC ( dual core and a 3gb of ram ) it wasn't that bad, it used to take like 3~4 seconds on the welcome screen....
Spec : i7-2600k @4.50 Ghz
RAM : 16 gb of ddr3 1333 Mhz Kingston valueRAM
Mobo : Gigabyte z68
GPU : GTX 560 ti
and the most important part in my issue HDD : WD EARS 1tb 5400 RPM 64MB cache
NOTE : i tried my older HDD in the new system, same results ( ~25 seconds )
Laptop Takes Long At Startup?
Oct 16, 2012Just got a laptop, running Win 7 Home Premium, back from Geek Squad, now it takes a LONG time to load up when booting. It takes well over 5 minutes before you can do anything. other than taking it back to Best Buy?

Aug 7, 2011I have 4 PC's on my wired home network - one of them is running Windows 7Professional - 64 bit O/S whilst all the others are running on Windows XPProfessional 32 bit O/S. All these PC's are on the Work Group called 'Home'All the partitions of the physical HDD on all these PC's are shared with the exception of the 'C:' partition of these PC - as I only store programs on the 'C:' drive partitions of the computers, hence I see no need to share them across the home network.I have noticed that on all the PC's running XP, the other computers become visible almost instantly in Windows Explorer but on the PC running Windows 7, it takes far too long (sometimes just doesn't even see them) to discover the other PC's on the network. Network Discovery and File Sharing settings have been set to 'on' on this PC running Windows 7.
Its very annoying. Is there anything I am missing here?Further, how do you search for a PC on a network on Windows 7 as you do on Windows XP from within Explorer? I am able to search for a computer on a network in XP very easily simply by right clicking on Network Places and going on 'Search for Computers' and then type in the name of the PC I am looking for - how do I do the same in Windows 7 Explorer?
Printer Takes Way Too Long To Print?
May 17, 2011I have re-installed my printer 4 times, it takes forever to load anything that needs printed......even the programs.All other programs open quickly and work as always. I have an epson artisan 700 that when you open any program to print with, just takes forever.......I have spent a whole day trying on my own, to no avail.I have even did 2 earlier restore points, which were successful? I am at my wits end, cannot wait 5-8 minutes to print out just 1 page.

Dec 12, 2012i've been told to be as detailed as i can, so i'll try and put my experience and problems down as comprehensively as possible. i'm running windows 7 (64-bit).yesterday morning, my computer took unusually long to log in. i didn't think much of it because it worked fine for most of the day besides being slow now and then when opening a program or two (the main one i recall is having trouble opening libre office).late in the evening, however, my opera browser had some kind of problem while i was on Internet. i'm not sure what i did, but it's happened once before; the video took up the entire screen, was difficult to manage because i couldn't bring it back to the usual size, and i had to close down the browser itself. when it started up again, opera was having the same issue as the last time this happened; the top and bottom of the screen had changed and i couldn't access the minimize/restoredown/close buttons. i figured i would have to re-install opera again, since this fixed the same sort of problem last time, but i tried restarting my computer just in case.
the computer took a long time to log in again, and it seemed like it had frozen. after waiting for a few minutes and seeing the loading icon wasn't moving, i used the power button to shut it off; unfortunately i noticed the icon moving again just as i did this.i started it up again after that, and it took several minutes to start up when it normally takes less than one. i think it spends the normal time booting up, but logging in takes abnormally long (it lingers on the "welcome" screen). when it finally does log in, i would get put into a temporary profile.while all my files do seem to still be present, my desktop is empty except for browsers, game icons, and a few programs. my text files, documents, folders and the like are elsewhere (but seem to still be present), and none of my programs' preferences are saved (my browser settings are reset, my instant messengers don't remember my login info, etc.). i wouldn't be so worried, but the long login time concerns me, and i hoped i could put things back to the way they were before.
my anti-virus didn't turn anything up after this began (i have spybot - search and destroy and webroot secureanywhere).first, he directed me to reboot in safe mode and attempt to use system restore. i was able to get into safe mode, but it still took a long time to log in, it still put my into a temporary profile, and there were no restore points available.next, i followed the directions here http://www.sysprobs.com/fix-temporary-profile-windows-7 up to the 2.f section. it seems that i am now out of the "temporary profile" loop, but nothing has changed except that this profile is no longer considered temporary. on my first attempt to log out and back in after following those instructions, i had the chance to log into a new "other user" profile, but it required a name and password which i could not fulfill (i didn't have a password on my usual account, since it was the only one). after logging back into this account (titled "owner", which isn't the same as my old one), that new one seems to be gone anyway. the accounts that remain are "owner" and "guest". owner is marked as an administrator, and guest is "off".
Confirmation Box For Deleting Files Takes Way Too Long
Mar 5, 2011When I try to delete a file, either by choosing the "delete" option on the context menu or by pressing the "delete" key with the file selected, it take between something like 20 to 60 seconds to show me the usual confirmation window (the one with "Are you sure you want to delete file XXX.X?"). It's quite annoying, however it seems that that is the only problem. When the confirmation windows does come up the file can be deleted OK and I can drag and drop files to the recycling bin without any problems.

This problem started about 2 months ago. Windows takes a long time to shut down, at least 5 minutes. Sometimes it doesn't shut down and reboots.Every shuts down normally, then the grey screen "SHUTTING DOWN" just seems to hang.On one recommendation I updated the BIOS, that didn't seem to work.I scanned in safe mode with Malware Bytes Anti Malware and the computer is clean. I use AVAST antivirus.
IE 8 & 9/ Windows 7 - It Takes Too Long To Bookmark A Link
Sep 10, 2011I am running IE 8 , latest as of 10 Sept 11, Windows 7 Ultimate on an Intel Quad Core (9300), 8 GB RAM, 1.5 TB Drive. When I hit "Add to Favorite" on IE to book mark a link, it takes 20-40 seconds until I am prompted to save the link some 30-40 seconds later. Needless to say, this is very annoying. I tried the following troubleshooting to isolate the problem:
1- Installed IE 9 - Same Issue
2. I removed all my existing favorite links/folders from the "Favorites folder" under C/ Users) - thninking that the number of existing links/folders may be the cause - Same Issue
3. I uninstalled IE 9 and defaulted to IE 8 - Same Issue
4. I uninstalled IE 8 - i.e. no IE browser left in my OS since IE 7 can not run on Win 7- then reinstalled IE 9 - Same Issue
5. I tried firefox, it works like a charm.
I restored to earlier versions of windows backups but it did not help. I suspect that this issue has been there for a while - may be some file or registry entry is corrupted.

Apr 26, 2011I have an HP Z800 Workstation with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. When I start the computer it seems to be ready in somewhere under a minute after the desktop comes on, meaning there are no spinning circles the mouse moves smoothly etc. However if I try to launch one of the programs in the taskbar, Firefox, Thunderbird, it takes at least seven to ten minutes for the program to come on and be ready. At this point if I click Start>All Programs it is completely empty with no icons or folders at all in there and will be for about the same amount of time. The Start menu freezes open like that and all I can do is to wait. And wait I do because it makes it much worse if I hold in the power button and turn the computer off because then I can usually not go past that black screen that comes on for a brief second before it goes on the desktop. I have very few things that are active in msconfig so I have no idea what's going on and why the computer takes so long to start.

Wifi Takes Long Time To Connect?
Jan 10, 2012My wife has a new Acer netbook which came with 7 Starter. I upgraded it to Home Premium 32bit. She is complaining that after closing the lid, or hibernating, or sleep mode, it take at least two minutes before the netbook connects so that she can use the internet. My two laptops do not have this problem at all. All three machines use the same router.
The signal strength icon on the system tray shows a yellow blob which stays until a connection is made. It doesn't always happen, but enough for hair tugging sessions!

Mar 24, 2012For some reason unknown to me, logging into my user account on my PC takes around 20-30 seconds. I have the Guest account enabled, and log on to this is pretty much instant.I read around the internet that this is usually caused by having a solid colour as a background, but there have at no point been a solid colour background,I have images set as desktop wallpaper.I have only a handful of programs set to startup such as itype.exe for my keyboard, MSE, Xboxstat for my gamepad and Catalyst Control Centre.The Guest account has more programs set to startup yet takes considerable amount of time shorter to get to the desktop.This also applies to any subsequent account I create.
There are no desktop icons of any sort, and the user account profile size comes up as 343MB (which as far as I'm aware, isn't large). Windows is installed to a 64GB SSD. To help save space and reduce wasted write cycles, I've moved temporary files and cache stuff off the drive onto a normal HDD.This has been done for the Guest account aswell.I fail to see, however, why that should slow down a login time.Rainmeter loads on startup, but whether its on startup or not makes no difference.The accounts are local accounts as my PC is not part of a domain.I am stumped as to why my profile takes so long to login to the desktop (hence why I'm asking).In the event of it being relevent my specs are in the spoiler below.

Windows 7 Login Screen Takes Long Time To Appear
Jul 12, 2012When I start up my computer,after reaching windows 7 symbol appears and i see the blue screen, it takes over 3 minutes before i see the form to type my password in. The same happens when I let my computer hibernate/sleep and then turn it on again.
