Cannot Type In System Password
Jul 6, 2012
I recently upgraded to Window 7 Home 64x from vista ultimate 32x. I also installed 8gb of RAM. I downloaded all the drivers/updates and everything was fine. Then, I entered in a System Password and an admin password in the set up menu since this hasnt been done previously.
Once I rebooted, it started its normal boot process but then brought me to a white screen that asked for the system or admin password. The problem is, there is no spot to enter the password. I typed it anyway and hit enter and I got "invalid password. hit enter to try again".No letters, or numbers are visible, but i know the keyboard works because it recognized the enter key. After three attempts, it says "hit enter to abort", and then it shuts down.
It wont recognize f2 or f12 when I first turn it on, so right now I cannot access anything. Just that white password screen. I have also tried a usb keyboard. Dell Inspiron 1545

seen a few similar posts floating around but nothing that is exactly my issue or gives a suitable answer.m running Win 7 64bit on a desktop, I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, and Wacom tablet. So I could not type in my windows password this morning, either using the Logitech keyboard or the on-screen one with the mouse. After about an hour of trying and several restarts (and my primary and secondary monitors switching for some reason), I could put the password in Once in Windows I found there was a keyboard issue: I was only typing the occasional special character (an accented i was one:) . Trying to type a test email I had the i-cursor available in the header (title-box) but not the body, even the special characters could not be typed in the main body. For some reason I picked up my pen tool, moving this over the email body produced a control/Alt yellow box prompt next to the pen cursor pressed these keys, now all is fine

I just put together a new computer last night and I am having an issue with the welcome screen in Windows 7 Home Premium. I have only done a few Google searches to find a solution, but I can't find my exact problem anywhere. The problem is that once windows asks for my login's password, I can't type for about 10 seconds. It's very frustrating, because I bought an SSD and I figured it would allow me to start windows a lot faster, but with this wait, it's almost the same.
I am using a USB keyboard and it allows me to access BIOS, etc during startup, so I don't think it's an issue with it not recognizing it fast enough. I have not installed any windows updates.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7. I switched it on this morning, got the usual login screen but without the welcome noise. I can't enter my password, the key strokes I'm entering just don't register on the screen. I've switched off and switched back on and no joy. I've gone to Safe Mode and just get the same problem, I can't type my password, the flashing cursor doesn't move in the password box. I've pressed F8 and tried to load the last good configuration but just get the same problem.

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 that I logon to using the fingerprint reader. However, I have other accounts that do not have enrolled fingerprints, and use their username and password to login. Right now it's only giving the option to scan the fingerprint (to login as me). How do I get it to show the screen where others can login?

I recently spilled coffee on the key board of my Dell Inspiron 1545 Laptop and believe it shorted the keyboard. I have a new laptop I would like to migrate over the docs and pics I have on that laptop to, but I can't get past the Windows 7 password stage because my keys that I need to use to type it don't work.Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can reset my password or log in without a password? My mouse still works, so if I can get in, I will have no problems. Also, I tried connecting a USB keyboard and for some reason the keys don't work on that either. IE) both the laptop and the usb keyboard only have the backspace, and space bar that work.

I recently installed Windows 7 64bit on the second partition of my main HDD. It worked flawlessly until I restarted earlier today. Now whenever I boot into Windows 7 the login screen shows up with my account, but when i attempt to enter my password the keystrokes are not registering.I have tried using all 8 usb ports in the back of my comp, but the keyboard still does not work. My usb mouse works fine. I can also boot and login to Windows XP, on the other partition with no problems, and the keyboard works fine.

I found a few pix in my files that I want to edit with Photoshop. I can't open them in PS because they are Type 1 or Type 2. When I try to open them, PS says they are .jpg.1 or. jpg.2. How do I get rid of the .1 and .2 so they become normal JPG photo files?I can look at them with Windows Photo Viewer but I can't figure out how to convert them to normal JPG files.

I'm working on a Windows 7 laptop for which the user has forgotten the password. So, putting my windows 7 DVD in, I boot into System Recovery and go to a command window. I try to change the user password for "User X" as it displays at login, and the system kindly informs me "User X" doesn't exist.
Using net user, I see that the only two users that exist are "Administrator" and "Guest". So, I activate administrator using "net user administrator /activate:yes". Then I change the password of administrator.
Rebooting into safe mode, I find "User X" and "Guest" still my only options. I try the password I set for administrator (since User X doesn't exist), but that doesn't work.

My Windows 7 Home Premium x64-based system will not prompt me for a password after the system resumes from standby or from the screen saver. I have both settings in place - I have the screensaver's "On resume, display logon screen" check box selected, AND I have the Power settings option set to "require a password on wakeup". However, neither setting works. I even set the "ScreenSaverIsSecure"="1" registry entry, but it had no effect. After the system resumes from standby or when the screen saver closes, the desktop is available with no password prompt. If I manually log off, or reboot the system, I am prompted to select a user and type the password, so the passwords are correctly in place.

I shut down my computer by pressing the power button, the next day when I turned my computer (toshiba, windows 7) it said loading files and then went to start up repair, after a short while start repair said it couldn't fix the problem automatically, it said to click finish which would restart my computer, I've restarted my computer multiple times but it always comes up with the same thing.
I clicked on advanced options for system recovery and support and it comes up with language and key board inout which is all right, click next and it says to access recovery options, log on as a local user, to access the command prompt as well, log on using an administrator account, I've tried my computer account password using the administrator option but it doesn't work, the other options are ASPNET and SophosSAUNB-(my last name goes here). I've tried each option with my password and it doesn't work, am i supposed to use a special password? I don't know what to do.

I want to set system policy to force password change. It is my understanding that Windows 7 group policy editor is not availible with Windows 7 basic or Home Perimum. This being the case does this mean that there is no way to change policy these to versions or just that the policy editor itself is not available.

When I bought my system, I set it up with a password required in order to be able to sign into windows. can that be bypassed by, say, a computer repair person? I sent my computer in for repair which turned out to needing a mother board replacement.I realized after that diagnosis was made that I'd forgotten to mention nor supply them with the system sign on password.

I recently suffered a trojan virus attach and ultimately have changed my password on my email server.I have tried to reset it to the new password in Windows mail multiple times. It keeps reverting to the old password as the saved password, and I continually have to retype in the new password. I tried resetting the password to nothing, and rebooting, and the old password comes back again. There must be a preference file or an ini file that I can edit. Can I do that without loosing my address book, etc.?
