Unable To Type Password At Login Screen?

Mar 15, 2010

I recently installed Windows 7 64bit on the second partition of my main HDD. It worked flawlessly until I restarted earlier today. Now whenever I boot into Windows 7 the login screen shows up with my account, but when i attempt to enter my password the keystrokes are not registering.I have tried using all 8 usb ports in the back of my comp, but the keyboard still does not work. My usb mouse works fine. I can also boot and login to Windows XP, on the other partition with no problems, and the keyboard works fine.

Can't Type Password On Login Screen

May 15, 2011

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 7. I switched it on this morning, got the usual login screen but without the welcome noise. I can't enter my password, the key strokes I'm entering just don't register on the screen. I've switched off and switched back on and no joy. I've gone to Safe Mode and just get the same problem, I can't type my password, the flashing cursor doesn't move in the password box. I've pressed F8 and tried to load the last good configuration but just get the same problem.

Unable To Login With Password Typed In Keyboard?

Sep 15, 2012

#1. I changed the windows password for a user. After that, I am not able to login if I type the password in key board. If I type same password using On-screen keyboard option of Ease of access, I am able to login.

I thought it could be issue with key board. After login, I checked all keys are working fine.

#2.Due to issue #1, I created one more user and added it to administrator group. I am able to login to windows with this new user with password typed in keyboard. But after login when i type some characters, it displays other characters. For e.g., when I type '', it shows '#'

Ctrl+alt+del Pressed, No Password Prompt: Unable To Login

Aug 9, 2011

my issue is as follows:

->Win 7 Pro
->Boots up shows "press ctrl+alt+del" screen
->Once this is pressed, the prompt for the password does not show (mouse moves not frozen)
->Unable to recover from rescue cd

After toiling with this issue for some time I found that when the computer is shut down properly, the next login does not show the password prompt. If the computer is shut down via a 5 second power-button press, the password prompt appears the next time the computer is turned on after the "start widows normally" dos screen. I had an older image of the os on a harddrive (replaced HD with solid state) that I used to "restore" from. The issue happened again some 6 days later. I can not keep restoring/backing up all the time as it is very time consuming (there is a lot of changing data on this computer and having to back up like this all the time is not a realistic solution).

Changing Image Of Password / Login Screen

Dec 10, 2009

You can change the lock/boot screen on Windows 7 by adding the following key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]SoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationLogonUIBackground

Add a DWord value to that key of OEMBackground = 1.

Finally, create a JPG < 250k of the correct size for your default resolution named backgroundDefault.jpg and place it in:

C:WindowsSystem32oobeinfoBackgrounds

Now when you lock or boot you will have a customized image.

Have not tried it my self but saw it somewhere, i dont know if this has been posted but im sure a lot of people would be interested.

Login Screen Appears With No Password And One Account

Sep 21, 2009

I have two machines that I've installed Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on and I'm having the same problem on both. When I turn on my computer it goes to the login welcome screen and stops. I have to click on my picture for it to continue logging into the desktop. I have no password and only one admin account set up on either one.

I tried setting up the auto login using netplwiz in the search bar but it doesn't do anything. I set up a password and set up the autologin and it didn't work on either machine. So now I'm back to no password and in need of help. Anyone got any ideas?

Unable To Switch User From Start Menu Or Login Screen?

Jan 24, 2013

I wanted to switch users a few days ago, but when I clicked the start button and clicked the arrow next to shutdown, it says lock, log off, restart, or sleep. The switch user option used to be at the top.I have tried going into the registry and finding HideFastUserSwitching, which I had to create a DWORD value for, because it wasn't there - needless to say that didn't work.I was told to also enable the Fast User Switching service in service.msc, but it wasn't on the list.I have tried going to task manager and clicking the 'users' tab which miraculously disappeared - replaced by a TCP/IP tab.

Type Username In Login Only On Demand?

Sep 11, 2012

I've made an Administrative account and I've hidden it. Some time ago due Windows XP times I was able to have the normal login screen and after using "CTRL + ALT + DEL" hotkey it was changing to classical login method, where I can type both an username and password.

How to do this in Windows 7? I have now typical 7's login screen, I know how to change it to "type username mode" too, but I don't want it by default. Some hotkey that will let me type username?

Can't Type Password?

Sep 21, 2011

seen a few similar posts floating around but nothing that is exactly my issue or gives a suitable answer.m running Win 7 64bit on a desktop, I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, and Wacom tablet. So I could not type in my windows password this morning, either using the Logitech keyboard or the on-screen one with the mouse. After about an hour of trying and several restarts (and my primary and secondary monitors switching for some reason), I could put the password in Once in Windows I found there was a keyboard issue: I was only typing the occasional special character (an accented i was one:) . Trying to type a test email I had the i-cursor available in the header (title-box) but not the body, even the special characters could not be typed in the main body. For some reason I picked up my pen tool, moving this over the email body produced a control/Alt yellow box prompt next to the pen cursor pressed these keys, now all is fine

Cannot Type In System Password

Jul 6, 2012

I recently upgraded to Window 7 Home 64x from vista ultimate 32x. I also installed 8gb of RAM. I downloaded all the drivers/updates and everything was fine. Then, I entered in a System Password and an admin password in the set up menu since this hasnt been done previously.

Once I rebooted, it started its normal boot process but then brought me to a white screen that asked for the system or admin password. The problem is, there is no spot to enter the password. I typed it anyway and hit enter and I got "invalid password. hit enter to try again".No letters, or numbers are visible, but i know the keyboard works because it recognized the enter key. After three attempts, it says "hit enter to abort", and then it shuts down.

It wont recognize f2 or f12 when I first turn it on, so right now I cannot access anything. Just that white password screen. I have also tried a usb keyboard. Dell Inspiron 1545

Can't Type Password For 10 Seconds

Aug 26, 2011

I just put together a new computer last night and I am having an issue with the welcome screen in Windows 7 Home Premium. I have only done a few Google searches to find a solution, but I can't find my exact problem anywhere. The problem is that once windows asks for my login's password, I can't type for about 10 seconds. It's very frustrating, because I bought an SSD and I figured it would allow me to start windows a lot faster, but with this wait, it's almost the same.

I am using a USB keyboard and it allows me to access BIOS, etc during startup, so I don't think it's an issue with it not recognizing it fast enough. I have not installed any windows updates.

Damaged Laptop Need To Access Without Being Able To Type Password

I have a new laptop I would like to migrate over the docs and pics I have on that laptop to, but I can't get past the Windows 7 password stage because my keys that I need to use to type it don't work.Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can reset my password or log in without a password? Unable To Restore / Unable To Login

Sep 25, 2011

I have an ASUS N51Vf on which I just changed a defective hard drive with a new one, same size and specs as the old. After a clean windows 7 install all was working fine. I created a System Restore Point. No errors reported, restore point created.I then tried to restore all my data and settings with a back up I had on a external hard drive. This back up has been made with LaCie Genie Back up Assistant, a program with decent review online. After having finished to restore the back up, I was asked to restart windows, which I did. Windows restarted but then it failed to log in giving an error (which appears to be quite common googling it). A window pop up saying "Interactive logon process initialization has failed. Please consult the event log for more details."If you say ok the windows keeps appearing again and again. There was no way to access windows whatever mode (safe, normal and all the other boot option appearing when pressing f8) I choosed. Startup repair was as well ineffective (since there was no problem in the startup process itself.)

People online reported the only way to fix this was to check the event log files on another computer. So I installed Ubuntu on the unallocated space I left when installing win 7, I copied the logs files, I went through all the errors in the event viewer of another computer, particularly those in application.evtx, I copied safe version of winlogon.exe logonUI.exe and userInit.exe on windows/system32 through Ubuntu but nothing worked. Same error preventing log in.I then went into the System Restore Point nasty affair. As I previously mentioned, I created this point prior to restore the LaCie backup. The Restore point was there, accessible through the standard recovery options. What appears is this: standard final window of System Restore and I couldn't select any of this drive and proceed. So I go to the Command Prompt and I realize that windows has been installed on D:, not on C:, which appears to be the system reserved partition with 70Mb free. Something standard when you install Windows 7 apparently. Since my backup was made copying files from C: and I didn't care for the path when restoring my LaCie backup, I thought I messed up things attempting to copy to the wrong drive, even though no error was reported to me.So I formatted everything, reinstalled windows paying attention not to create other partitions. Clean install, all went through fine. I check on Computer what's the windows unit label, and it is C indeed. I didn't check for the presence of other partitions. I re-restore files from the LaCie Backup. At the end I try to create a new System Restore point, but a weird error tells me that I can't. Already suspicious, I restart, to find myself on the exact same position as before, unable to login, unable to restore (both same as previously described) and, moreover, checking through command prompt, win 7 appears to be in the D: unit again with the C: set up to be the system reserved!!

Cannot Login To User Invalid Password

Jul 4, 2012

My father has a laptop that he received from his work. My father works at a high school and the school is currently closed for the summer vacation. All of the technicians are on vacation now and the school board is also closed. There is no technician to help my father. The computer technician has set up his user name and password. It has been working for the last few months but suddenly, a few days ago, when he types in his password, he gets the message that his username or password are incorrect.

I have tried starting it up on safe mode, but it is still asking for his login and it is still incorrect. I have tried logging into the administrator password but it is not a blank password and nothing I have put in works. I have also tried switching user but there is no other user. I have tried restoring the computer but it states that I need to have administrator clearance to restore. I have the windows 7 disk but I am unsure how to activate it. My father has not made a password restore disk and when I tried to follow the instructions of saving the password on a usb or a disk, it did not work because I did not have the password disk.

I am currently trying to reinstall Windows 7, as that is what a lot of forums were telling me to do but it is taking forever. I am hearing people tell me to download recovery tools, but I have no idea how to do this as the only computer I have currently is my father's computer, which I cannot get onto the internet! (I am typing from an ipod). How do I download ISOs and recovery files when I cannot access the internet?
