Cannot Run Anything On Computer Startup Sometimes?
Dec 1, 2012
I love my laptop but occasionally I get pretty ticked off when I'm using it. Anyways, for some unknown reason, a lot of the time when I log on to my computer, I try running a program but nothing happens. I don't even get the loading sign. I have to restart my computer about 7 times to get it to work. It's not a virus because I'm not connected to the Internet or any other external computers. No errors no crashes, and my computer is brand new.

So I bought a new Hitachi Deskstar 2 SATA-600 2 TB (3,5'') harddrive yesterday. (I had a WD 320 GB harddrive before changing to the 2TB.)And now, my computer takes maybe 4-5 minutes to show the boot screen (the screen that first appears when you boot your computer, often a green, blue or black one). And while the computer boots up, I can hear this ticking noise from the fans. Demonstration (the best I can):and so on. But when it finally boots (when the boot screen comes up) the fan-noise stops, and goes back to the "normal" noise. But my computer is working fine otherways. My computer is not slow other than the startup, and every program or game is working perfectly fine.I think maybe it have something to do with the size of the harddrive? Could there be problems changing from a 320GB to 2TB? [code]

My Windows 7 Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop freezes after startup. This randomly started one day after I had normally gotten on the computer and decided to boot it back up. The computer starts up normally, and all the icons load up, but the connection bar has a circle on it. I can click on things, but nothing happens, it just highlights things. And when I hit control alt delete, the computer freezes and a few minutes later, it pulls up this thing that says the logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the Operating System does not respond press ESC or restart the computer by the power switch In windows 7.

As I turn on my computer it starts working until it starts loading onto my desktop, I don't actually know what's going on because nothing has changed at all in the past few days. I've tried running it in safe mode, same thing happens.

This also happened to me (the BSODs) but not after installing RAM - I'm not sure what the error code was though, I upgraded my OS from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows 7 (I actually installed Windows 7 on a different partition) and didn't actually do an "upgrade" - but I wasn't sure if I should "uninstall" or delete the old Windows OS from the other partition. Not sure how to go about doing that - just by deleting, or having to clean registry keys, etc. I also had to install a new video card - since my previous one would not work right under Windows 7.

My computer's startup is very slow. I'm pretty sure my system is clean from any kind of malware, I just think it's all the programs that run on startup that is causing this problem.

I built a new computer at the start of last month based on a core i7 930. I loaded Windows 7 64bit with no problems and left the system running overnight doing some stress tests. In the morning things were still fine so I loaded up some app's and used the computer for about 3 hours without trouble. The problem came when I tried a restart where the PC got as far as the starting windows screen then switched off. No BSOD no errors just off. At first I thought I had a hardware fault but after reloading windows the problem went away.

My computer will freeze after start up within a minute of the boot up finishing. I have to restart the computer and it sometimes freezes on boot up or after boot up.After 2 - 4 times of this happening, my comp boots and runs fine.I've run in safe mode and it still freezes.Startup repair did nothing.I can't do error checking to my 160 GB WD HDD because last time I did that, when the countdown to error checking would start, the computer would freeze up at 1 second and the keyboard wouldn't work so I would not be able to stop it, so I had to reinstall Windows.I've tried switching cables.I've updated the BIOS for my MOBOInstalled all drivers to dateRan a virus scanNot really sure if this is a hard drive problem or a motherboard problem or something else. Not a windows problem because I've

I've had this problem for a while on my new-ish computer, it's a full original build. Whenever I restart, or startup from shut down I have to enter the BIOS. It doesn't actually give me any option other than pressing F1 to go into setup. I've checked the order in BIOS in which it should try to boot from, changing it seems to have no effect whatsoever. When I try to start using Windows boot manager, it just goes into Startup repair and then fails to load at all. To get it to boot I have to enter advanced repair using a boot disc in my discdrive, then go to the memory diagnostic tool. Next I have to restart, enter windows boot manager and then cancel the memory test, it then puts me straight into the windows login screen?
Here are my specs:
Asus P9X79 Pro
Intel 3930k S-e hexcore at 3.2GHz
2x Asus GTX 590 SLI
32 Gb G-skill Ripjaws DDR3 at 1866
OCZ Agility 120GB
Hitachi 1TB HDD
Corsair AX1200 Gold PSU
Some DVD drive that I don't remember
Currently my boot order is: Windows boot manager > DVD drive > HDD
There's no option to put my SSD (which is where windows is actually installed) in that list for some reason, even though I can select it from the boot menu. When I do though I just get a black screen.

I have suggested the following, all which have failed to make a difference:
bootrec.exe with /fixmbr /fixboot and /RebuildBcd
Run chkdsk
Startup repair
System Restore - two dates tried
The pc is about a month or so old, and I'm thinking it could be a hardware issue, hard drive?
Two things I am going to try when I get there is a WD Diagnostics on the Hard drive, and the sfc

So my computer starts out logging on, sometimes it'll take a long time on the splash screen, sometimes it'll freeze on the splash screen, but now more recently, it's just gotten to the splash screen, not turned off, and restarted itself back to the start screen. It comes up with the problem of Windows not shutting down properly and asks for system repair or normal startup, but system repair doesn't help at all because it gets to the background screen and system repair doesn't pop up.

I just bought two identical Asus Desktop computers. The first one works fine. On the second computer, when I login into Windows, I receive a BSOD (that happens right after I enter the login password). It happened on my very first startup attempt so I did not install anything. (I only managed to select my language and create a user in the Windows setup process). I tried uninstalling the trial version of TrendMicro but it did not solve the problem.

i had some dodgy memory, but running memtest (which i needed too do to RMA) really buggered up my system, as i was getting instant BSOD just trying to get into memtest. Anyway manged it and duff memory sent off, i insert my working memory and get loads of windows errors and issues. Cut my losses and format and start a fresh. New Build...So everything is installed and working, however i seem to get some input lag and stutter when windows loads, but apart from that it seemed ok for the entire day. When i tried to play Battlefield3 i would get in to the game between 1 and 5mins my gcard fans go mental and the pc shuts down.temps are fine, but wondering if i have somehow borked my gcard or mobo using the dodgy memory? At a loss knowing what is at fault.all hardware has been working fine for about 8 weeks before i added the new duff memory. memtest says current memory is fine and i was able to stress test using prime for 45mins (all overclocks removed)

But after log off I can see both of them.Normally its fine but if there is some updates, the computer will install the updates under black screen.

So it was just a regular day when I was about to get on my computer and I turned it on but it didn't take me to a screen where I could log in, instead it took me to a screen that said Launch Startup-repair or start windows normally. I clicked Start windows normally and it took me back to the same screen, I also have tried to press f8 and go to the safe mode screen and it worked but I have no idea what to do because I just want to get back on my computer and play games and talk to friends but I am unable to do so because of this error, It is really irritating

For the past month or so my computer has been shutting down on Windows Startup, after talking to a local tech he told me the problem was my Operating System so he reinstalled it and for a few hours this fixed the problem. But now my computer shuts down on Windows Startup unless I boot in Safe Mode where it works perfectly, any reasons this might happen?

I have reformatted the laptop for which i thought it was some kind of virus, then after a few windows update the problem still remain. Am i the only one having this problem?

Just put together a brand new computer, Windows installed fine (running x64 bit Ultimate),everything loaded up fine the first time. Then I installed the driver and utility for my network card, and everything seemed fine til I got an internet connection, at which point it froze, and the only fix is a restart. Now every time it boots it freezes, sometimes within 10 seconds of starting, sometimes it doesn't make it past the "Welcome" screen and it'll just freeze. Haven't gotten to use my new machine for more than 20 seconds at a time, extremely annoying. In safe mode there doesn't seem to be a problem, I've had it on for more than 20 mins and it's been fine. Does anyone know where I can start looking to fix this? I've been struggling with this thing for 3 days and I'm running out of ideas. i have an hp touchsmart tm2 tablet with an intel i3 processor. i started having problems after a windows update. at first it was freezing often, then once in a while it said it wasn't an authentic version of windows (but it is), then on random occasions it was telling me i had hard drive problems. Then it started freezing completely after 2 minutes of use, and now it won't even get passed the windows startup screen.Every time i start a scan of any sort it gives me the "scan failed" message, restarts and gets stuck again.

I have a desktop, custom built, that has been a nightmare since day one. Anyway, last time I brought it in for repairs they checked the motherboard and RAM- it was all fine, and they replaced my hard drive. For the past month or so, my computer will freeze or hang while I'm in the middle of working on something. I'm a photographer and it usually happens when photoshop is left sitting open for a few minutes. Firefox will freeze and so will PS and Bridge. When it freezes, nothing works. Ctrl+alt+delete will work to open the task manager, but it won't actually end any tasks when I try. I am forced to hold the power button down to shut it off. About 3 days ago I got a message upon start up saying that I needed to check disk but immediately said that it couldn't check disk due to a corruption? Stating that a recently installed software was the problem and I needed to do a system restore. I tried to do a system restore to before I installed my machforms update and it wouldn't let me! Stated that the c drive is corrupt and I need to do a check disk. So it's sending me in a circle and I can't complete either. Today, when I booted I received a lovely grey screen. This happened about 7 times before it booted normally. I tried to boot in safe mode but it froze.

Anyway, anytime my Sony Vaio computer isn't shut down properly, or the screen times out due to inactivity, it will show a screen that says "windows is loading files" and then proceeds to do a start up repair in which it will try to restore my device to a previous setting (or something like that). When i first got this computer, as with my previous HP, I could close the lid..no harm no foul. After having this one for a month it started doing this out of nowhere.
