Computer Switches Off At Startup
Aug 2, 2010
I built a new computer at the start of last month based on a core i7 930. I loaded Windows 7 64bit with no problems and left the system running overnight doing some stress tests. In the morning things were still fine so I loaded up some app's and used the computer for about 3 hours without trouble. The problem came when I tried a restart where the PC got as far as the starting windows screen then switched off. No BSOD no errors just off. At first I thought I had a hardware fault but after reloading windows the problem went away.

Have an MSI laptop that runs Windows 7 32 bit version. Recently it has a tendency to reboot when I come back to use it after the screen has switched off. When I get back, there is the blue screen and then it asks whether I want to reboot as normal. Upon restart it says that Windows closed down unexpectadly etc.I have tried to look at the crash dump files, but I must admit I am not that much closer to understand what the problem is. It happens a few times a day. Could it be related to the HDMI cable that I have recently purchased and occasionally plug in/out during the day in order to watch movies over the TV? However, it crashes also when the cable is not in.

My system switches itself off by itself, not during the day but early morning and only once. My event log has the following for this morning...
The system is entering sleep.

I am planning on holding a LAN Party in a month or 2 and requier a bit of help because it is my first. About 6 - 10 people will be coming.
I need help on a few things and any imput people could put in would be greatly appreciated because I am very lost!
I was planning on purchasing a switch (Still not sure what to purchase yet. I am looking for something around 10 ports) and connecting it directly by a network cable to my Belkin Wireless G Universal Range Extender Router. Then connecting all the computers to the switch. All the computers connected to the switch will be running either XP, Vista or 7.
Is this going to work? What kind of settings am I going to need to change on the OS's to make them all be able to interact with each other in the games. Are their easier ways to do this?
I have no previous networking experience and am only 14, so go easy.

First off, I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6Ghz, a 2-year old Powercolor Ati Radeon HD4870, an 8-year old Philips 107T CRT monitor, 4GB RAM, 600W power supply. I'm using a VGA-DVI adaptor to connect the monitor to the 4870 DVI port. Now, what's been happening is that sometimes my monitor would go off randomly. Can't reproduce the problem if I try.Another problem which I'm not sure if it's related is that sometimes when I boot up the computer, 8 beeps are heard, and nothing displays on the monitor. I'm able to get it to display by switching off and on the system, sometimes a few times. I just re-installed Windows, got the latest updates for the graphics drivers, and I thought everything would be fine. But my monitor froze when I was surfing, and when I reset the system, the problem happened again.

So ive run out of ports on my router (D-Link DIR-825) and my 8 port switch (ASUS GX-D1081). I recently went out and bought an identical 8 port switch. When I try and plug this new switch into my router any device connected to the switch does not receive and IP address. Am I doing anything wrong or forgetting to enable some setting.

Windows 7 Professional x64 Asus Sonar DX Gigabyte X58A-UD5 Corsair HX Series 850W Modular Power Supply Intel Core i7 950 3.06Ghz MSI GTX 460 Cyclone Overclocked Edition 1GB SLI G.Skill Ripjaw 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 The card is inserted in the second PCI Express x1 slot:
The absolutely annoying problem is that the card stops working randomly. The usual relay switch sound can be heard (the click) and then only a restart can turn it on: Quote: The clicks are not directly related to the power supply; they come from the relays that are used to disconnect the card from its outputs jacks to prevent pops in the speakers when powering on the computer. (There are also relays for switching to the front panel and for switching between the line-in and mic-in functions, but they sound of those is probably masked by your mouse's clicking.) I tested the card on another machine, where it was working just fine, but when I moved it back to my machine 15 seconds after I played online radio it switched off The computer is not even under heavy load, so it doesn't matter if I play heavy games or just browse the internet. The floppy cable is properly connected and the power supply is more than powerful to feed it. The weirdest part is that this same card worked just fine for like a full year and during that time no hardware changes have been made. It just started switching off like 2 weeks ago for no apparent reason.
Does everything look fine here? - Ubuntu Pastebin Could it be an IRQ problem/conflict?I'm helpless Any ideas what to test/do in order to establish what the problem is?

i am running windows 7 64 bit on a Sony Vaio, about a month old. Just noticed when i open my network and sharing center, and click on full network map, it shows my computer, and my router (asus rt-n56u) but also has 3 extra hubs and switches in there that i dont have. I have a direct cable connecting to a Motorola modem, then to my router. If i take the router out of the equation and hard wire directly to the modem, it just shows my computer icon, router ico, and internet icon.

While using my notebook on battery it crashes. There is no BSOD and I need to plug in to AC and turn back on. When I turn it back on the battery level can sometimes be at 41%. It does not give a warning or noise just switches off. I have tried to follow some of the previous posting instructions but not been able to work out the problem. The battery check says 100% and I have used compressed air to blow out the vents.

PC boots normally, though somehow slowly you can really hear the HD is working hard! Wireless is connected as it should, as one of the last tasks in the entire start up process. Good signal with 4-5 pins in the internet access icon down in the right corner of the lower menu bar, and no problems with connection to the internet. However, after 1 minute or so, I can hear the HD start working intensively again, and then it disconnects the internet access, shown by a red cross over the internet access icon. Just before that, the screen flashes a bit, and the color of the lower menu bar becomes slightly more pale, as if some booting is still going on. Going into the Services.msc, the WLAN Auto Config says that it is started, but opening it in General, it says Stop. When I click on Start, it reconnects and works fine again. If I do nothing, after yet another 2-3 minutes it tries to reconnect, and eventually after 5-8 minutes after reboot it is reconnected, and work fine again. I off course use Antivirus program (Microsoft Essentials) and have installed all the latest Windows 7 updates, including SP1.

When I'm in gaming sessions such as WoW, CoD and more even 8ball pool... the sound from headphones just "cut" and goes to speakers.
So while gaming it's alright but when the sound gets "Loud" it just stops working and I have to plug it again to work which is really irritating.

So tried fresh installation of windows 7, again here while copying files or installing files screen it switches off (not shutdown, abrupt off). Why can't I even install a fresh copy of windows?

I'm currently under seige from Sandy and my sump pump reservoirs are filling up with water. Fortunately, I still have my power, but I was hoping I could find an alarm that would sound whenever my Laptop switches from AC power to the battery power. When the power goes out I need to immediately run outside and fire up the generator so my basement doesn't flood... and without an alarm, I'll sleep right through the power going out. But, I'm tired. I have a toddler that wore my ass out today... and I can't stay up all night. So, I'm hoping to get some sleep before I lose power. That's why I need this.

have two desktop shortcuts to the same exe but with different command-line switches. How can I get them both onto the Start menu? When I drag the first to the Start button, it appears fine - but when I drag the second, it replaces the first. So what even I do, only one appears on the menu.

I love my laptop but occasionally I get pretty ticked off when I'm using it. Anyways, for some unknown reason, a lot of the time when I log on to my computer, I try running a program but nothing happens. I don't even get the loading sign. I have to restart my computer about 7 times to get it to work. It's not a virus because I'm not connected to the Internet or any other external computers. No errors no crashes, and my computer is brand new.

So I bought a new Hitachi Deskstar 2 SATA-600 2 TB (3,5'') harddrive yesterday. (I had a WD 320 GB harddrive before changing to the 2TB.)And now, my computer takes maybe 4-5 minutes to show the boot screen (the screen that first appears when you boot your computer, often a green, blue or black one). And while the computer boots up, I can hear this ticking noise from the fans. Demonstration (the best I can):and so on. But when it finally boots (when the boot screen comes up) the fan-noise stops, and goes back to the "normal" noise. But my computer is working fine otherways. My computer is not slow other than the startup, and every program or game is working perfectly fine.I think maybe it have something to do with the size of the harddrive? Could there be problems changing from a 320GB to 2TB? [code]

My Windows 7 Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop freezes after startup. This randomly started one day after I had normally gotten on the computer and decided to boot it back up. The computer starts up normally, and all the icons load up, but the connection bar has a circle on it. I can click on things, but nothing happens, it just highlights things. And when I hit control alt delete, the computer freezes and a few minutes later, it pulls up this thing that says the logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the Operating System does not respond press ESC or restart the computer by the power switch In windows 7.

This also happened to me (the BSODs) but not after installing RAM - I'm not sure what the error code was though, I upgraded my OS from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows 7 (I actually installed Windows 7 on a different partition) and didn't actually do an "upgrade" - but I wasn't sure if I should "uninstall" or delete the old Windows OS from the other partition. Not sure how to go about doing that - just by deleting, or having to clean registry keys, etc. I also had to install a new video card - since my previous one would not work right under Windows 7.

I've had this problem for a while on my new-ish computer, it's a full original build. Whenever I restart, or startup from shut down I have to enter the BIOS. It doesn't actually give me any option other than pressing F1 to go into setup. I've checked the order in BIOS in which it should try to boot from, changing it seems to have no effect whatsoever. When I try to start using Windows boot manager, it just goes into Startup repair and then fails to load at all. To get it to boot I have to enter advanced repair using a boot disc in my discdrive, then go to the memory diagnostic tool. Next I have to restart, enter windows boot manager and then cancel the memory test, it then puts me straight into the windows login screen?
Here are my specs:
Asus P9X79 Pro
Intel 3930k S-e hexcore at 3.2GHz
2x Asus GTX 590 SLI
32 Gb G-skill Ripjaws DDR3 at 1866
OCZ Agility 120GB
Hitachi 1TB HDD
Corsair AX1200 Gold PSU
Some DVD drive that I don't remember
Currently my boot order is: Windows boot manager > DVD drive > HDD
There's no option to put my SSD (which is where windows is actually installed) in that list for some reason, even though I can select it from the boot menu. When I do though I just get a black screen.
