View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently under seige from Sandy and my sump pump reservoirs are filling up with water. Fortunately, I still have my power, but I was hoping I could find an alarm that would sound whenever my Laptop switches from AC power to the battery power. When the power goes out I need to immediately run outside and fire up the generator so my basement doesn't flood... and without an alarm, I'll sleep right through the power going out. But, I'm tired. I have a toddler that wore my ass out today... and I can't stay up all night. So, I'm hoping to get some sleep before I lose power. That's why I need this.

I am planning on holding a LAN Party in a month or 2 and requier a bit of help because it is my first. About 6 - 10 people will be coming.
I need help on a few things and any imput people could put in would be greatly appreciated because I am very lost!
I was planning on purchasing a switch (Still not sure what to purchase yet. I am looking for something around 10 ports) and connecting it directly by a network cable to my Belkin Wireless G Universal Range Extender Router. Then connecting all the computers to the switch. All the computers connected to the switch will be running either XP, Vista or 7.
Is this going to work? What kind of settings am I going to need to change on the OS's to make them all be able to interact with each other in the games. Are their easier ways to do this?
I have no previous networking experience and am only 14, so go easy.
I built a new computer at the start of last month based on a core i7 930. I loaded Windows 7 64bit with no problems and left the system running overnight doing some stress tests. In the morning things were still fine so I loaded up some app's and used the computer for about 3 hours without trouble. The problem came when I tried a restart where the PC got as far as the starting windows screen then switched off. No BSOD no errors just off. At first I thought I had a hardware fault but after reloading windows the problem went away.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst off, I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6Ghz, a 2-year old Powercolor Ati Radeon HD4870, an 8-year old Philips 107T CRT monitor, 4GB RAM, 600W power supply. I'm using a VGA-DVI adaptor to connect the monitor to the 4870 DVI port. Now, what's been happening is that sometimes my monitor would go off randomly. Can't reproduce the problem if I try.Another problem which I'm not sure if it's related is that sometimes when I boot up the computer, 8 beeps are heard, and nothing displays on the monitor. I'm able to get it to display by switching off and on the system, sometimes a few times. I just re-installed Windows, got the latest updates for the graphics drivers, and I thought everything would be fine. But my monitor froze when I was surfing, and when I reset the system, the problem happened again.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHave an MSI laptop that runs Windows 7 32 bit version. Recently it has a tendency to reboot when I come back to use it after the screen has switched off. When I get back, there is the blue screen and then it asks whether I want to reboot as normal. Upon restart it says that Windows closed down unexpectadly etc.I have tried to look at the crash dump files, but I must admit I am not that much closer to understand what the problem is. It happens a few times a day. Could it be related to the HDMI cable that I have recently purchased and occasionally plug in/out during the day in order to watch movies over the TV? However, it crashes also when the cable is not in.

So ive run out of ports on my router (D-Link DIR-825) and my 8 port switch (ASUS GX-D1081). I recently went out and bought an identical 8 port switch. When I try and plug this new switch into my router any device connected to the switch does not receive and IP address. Am I doing anything wrong or forgetting to enable some setting.

The absolutely annoying problem is that the card stops working randomly. The usual relay switch sound can be heard (the click) and then only a restart can turn it on: Quote: The clicks are not directly related to the power supply; they come from the relays that are used to disconnect the card from its outputs jacks to prevent pops in the speakers when powering on the computer. (There are also relays for switching to the front panel and for switching between the line-in and mic-in functions, but they sound of those is probably masked by your mouse's clicking.) I tested the card on another machine, where it was working just fine, but when I moved it back to my machine 15 seconds after I played online radio it switched off The computer is not even under heavy load, so it doesn't matter if I play heavy games or just browse the internet. The floppy cable is properly connected and the power supply is more than powerful to feed it. The weirdest part is that this same card worked just fine for like a full year and during that time no hardware changes have been made. It just started switching off like 2 weeks ago for no apparent reason.
Does everything look fine here? - Ubuntu Pastebin Could it be an IRQ problem/conflict?I'm helpless Any ideas what to test/do in order to establish what the problem is?
i am running windows 7 64 bit on a Sony Vaio, about a month old. Just noticed when i open my network and sharing center, and click on full network map, it shows my computer, and my router (asus rt-n56u) but also has 3 extra hubs and switches in there that i dont have. I have a direct cable connecting to a Motorola modem, then to my router. If i take the router out of the equation and hard wire directly to the modem, it just shows my computer icon, router ico, and internet icon.

When I turn it back on the battery level can sometimes be at 41%. It does not give a warning or noise just switches off. I have tried to follow some of the previous posting instructions but not been able to work out the problem. The battery check says 100% and I have used compressed air to blow out the vents.

PC boots normally, though somehow slowly you can really hear the HD is working hard! Wireless is connected as it should, as one of the last tasks in the entire start up process. Good signal with 4-5 pins in the internet access icon down in the right corner of the lower menu bar, and no problems with connection to the internet. However, after 1 minute or so, I can hear the HD start working intensively again, and then it disconnects the internet access, shown by a red cross over the internet access icon. Just before that, the screen flashes a bit, and the color of the lower menu bar becomes slightly more pale, as if some booting is still going on. Going into the Services.msc, the WLAN Auto Config says that it is started, but opening it in General, it says Stop. When I click on Start, it reconnects and works fine again. If I do nothing, after yet another 2-3 minutes it tries to reconnect, and eventually after 5-8 minutes after reboot it is reconnected, and work fine again. I off course use Antivirus program (Microsoft Essentials) and have installed all the latest Windows 7 updates, including SP1.

Yesterday I tried installing fedora core on my system, installation was not successful and I cancelled it. But my system initially had windows 7 on it,when I try to boot with windows 7 system automatically switches off while loading windows screen. So tried fresh installation of windows 7, again here while copying files or installing files screen it switches off (not shutdown, abrupt off). Why can't I even install a fresh copy of windows?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Win7 HP on a Dell Vostro M350 w 2G RAM and investigating intermittent IE stalling during accessing/loading of retail websites. I just removed MSE so only AVG running off hours and no other scheduled processes should be running. This is wireless, so can't rule out a week signal at other end of house-need to investigate further. Runs fine next to router when I try to check it out, then when wife is surfing in kitchen, slow again, but not always. I have a new "n" Netgear dual band router and laptop is on the 2.4Gig band shared with no one. I'm considering a repeater in the middle of the house once I'm convinced it's a weak signal thing. DSL is ATT at 3meg tier, but 2.67 measured with Speakeasy.net. My personal 3.2Gig core 2 duo tower is direct-connect to router and never, ever see a lag in browsing but I use Chrome 99% of the time. have not seen an issue with IE on tower either for that matter. laptop does have only 2G of RAM (I have 4) and seems to be at 1.5G or 1.6G utilization much of the time, so maybe it's memory bound but no apps open other than IE and Outlook 2010.
I find IE consuming 25% of cpu when just idling on a given page. what's it doing? Is this normal? Java has been removed and no fancy graphics on websites. When I kill IE then reopen it and it's just sitting on same page, it's at zero cpu usage. Then after a lot of surfing and opening/closing pages, it's spinning it's again wheels doing something while the screen is static.I did recently convert email from POP3 to IMAP with iCloud for full syncing with a new iPad (all works). Maybe there's some background Outlook overhead going on there??? However, this is a long term complaint that precedes arrival of the iPad.free "MS task manager" like app that will quickly display the top 2 or 3 processes in terms of % cpu cycles? Since this is intermittent, by the time I get Windows Task Manager up and scan the long list, the offending process often drops to zero. I have Sysinternals Process Explorer, but it still takes time to study the display to see who's doing what. I just want something that quickly displays the "smoking gun" with no misc. data to sift through.
I think this is driver related. My Dell laptop touch pad is working fine for moving the pointer and clicking but the scrollbar for web pages etc. that runs vertically down the left of the pad does not function at all. I have had a look around the Device Manager but I cant find the pads entry to update it. Perhaps this is just something that is incompatible with Windows 7...
Does anyone else have this problem?

Here is a link to my laptop specs. Never understood why Dell never released video drivers compatible with anything above xp for this device, which was purchased new in 2006. I have the system running with windows 7, and device manager reports no problems with any devices, but experience rating gives it a 1.0 for graphic, which I am thinking cannot be the case.
This thing had a decent graphics card when it was released, and plays semi modern games ok with xp. I did a little research online and found people had trubs finding graphics drivers compatible with vista.
Anyone on these boards have any advice??
Okay I been working on someone's laptop. It's. Dell Inspiron 1420. This one you might have seem problems with the GPU. But that a the Nvida one. This one has intel hd GPU. So heres the problem the laptop starts nothing on the screen hard drive light stays on for about 2 minutes. But screen has nothing in it. But only a few times I the screen works when you start it by pressing the Fn and holding it down when you press the power button. But it takes you to the dell testing center.
