Nov 28, 2012I am currently in safe mode as my Toshiba laptop cannot boot up properly. I get through the windows startup. All the icons on my desktop look normal, and then about 40 seconds later, a blue screen filled with information briefly appears before the computer shuts down and attempts to restart itself. It happens so fast I can't write down much of what was on the screen other than a data dump, with numbers counting down to 0 and then it does a restart on its own. I did a restore to November 20 and that did not help, so I did another restore for Nov. 9 and that too did not help. I did manage to open in safe mode and managed to find these errors in some event log :

Nov 15, 2012About half the time, when my computer tries to go into sleep mode when I've left it for a while, it doesn't fall asleep properly. I'm not very good with computers, but when the computer is on standby the power light at the front flashes. Well, sometimes The screen will go dark, the the power light won't flash and the NUM LOCK button is still lit up. It doesn't respond to me toggling on the mouse pad and the only thing I can do is force a shut down and reboot.
It doesn't happen all the time, but it seems to be happening a lot more often than it should be.It happen almost constantly when I was downloading a game from steam. I had to keep the computer constantly running for it to download and couldn't leave it to sit.

The dell rep remotely took over the computer and cleared out a bunch of the programs from startup in various locations. Since then I have not been able to use the scroll and multi-touch features on my mousepad. I can't find where to turn this back on and re-installing the driver has not helped.

Zoom Setting Won't Stick In Live TV
Jan 23, 2009I use a Hitachi plasma screen with a native resolution of 1024x1024 to watch TV via Media Centre and with the recommended output resolution at 1024x768 via VGA. As would be expected, this results in black bars top and bottom so I have to use Zoom 3 setting which corrects it nicely. The picture quality is excellent.
The problem is that when I change channels a few times, it reverts back to the default Zoom 1 so I have to manually change it back again using the info/zoom menu. This applies to HD & SD digital channels.
Is there some way I can get the zoom setting to stick? It's a real nuisance otherwise and ruining the setup.
Zoom Setting Still Not Sticking In Live TV
May 11, 2009I reported this problem on the beta and hoped that it would be fixed by now in the RC.
I have a widescreen Hitachi plasma with a native resolution of 1024x1024. My HTPC is connected via VGA using 1368x1024 resolution through an ATI Radeon 4670 card which gives really excellent picture quality for live TV (with a few tweaks!). MC displays correctly full screen but I need to set it to Zoom 3 for live TV to remove the black bars top and bottom and fill the screen correctly for 16:9 aspect ratio.
The problem is that this setting will not stick and randomly changes back to Zoom 1 when I change channels. Sometimes it works and sometimes not regardless of content. Sometimes I can just see the picture change zoom an instant before the channel changes.
This is definitely a windows problem and not related to the graphics driver. I have used the driver automatically installed by Windows 7 and updated to Catalyst 9.4 with exactly the same results. WMP remembers the zoom correctly for DVD playback.
I have an identical setup running under Vista MC and the zoom, once set, always remains the same (Zoom 3).
Is there a way of making this setting stick as it should remain the default for all my TV viewing and I could not live with having to change zoom every other time I change channels? Any help would be much appreciated as without a solution I would not be able to adopt Windows 7 which would be a great shame considering all its other improvements over Vista.

I know about the option to automatically reset it whenever a new tab opens (found in the advanced tab in IE options), and I know that this is based off of what option is set in the "Ease of Access" control panel. The thing is, is that this is on a laptop, so I like all my icons and text outside of IE to be at 125%, but flash is messed up in IE if it isn't set to 100%. Also, every once in a while I discover that I have accidentally changed my zoom factor by hitting control+scroll (just a guess this is how it changes), and would like to avoid this.

Mar 29, 2012My A200 has been upgraded to 4GB RAM, and Win7, worked fine for a while, then started randomly freezing with weird screen stuff (video not displaying properly). Power off only worked. Much frustration and removal of progs later, tried on safe mode - works fine. Safe mode with networking - works fine. Can plug it in (surefire way to get it to fault normally) and in safe mode it works fine, in normal mode, immediate fault.
Thought perhaps a horrible malware, did clean install from disc of win7, no change (except now, coz I deleted all the Toshiba drivers, the dvd drive is noisly lol). Can't load progs to run the damned thing properly because it won't run in normal mode, only safe mode. Tried formatting the hdd, but it won't let me (partitions) which I thought were reformatted during a clean install anyway?
Haven't tried changing the charger yet, because it works fine in safe mode, so I thought probably a software issue? Have tried minimal or "clean" normal boots, freezes immediately.
