Two build 7000 machines in my homegroup... One works fine and I can check/uncheck media to share in the homegroup. The laptop, however, is a different story. When I check a library to share in a home group (pictures, videos, music, etc) then click "save changes" nothing changes. When I can back into my homegroup settings, there are no check marks.

I have a desktop with Windows 7 64bit prof. and a laptop with the same. I have setup the homegroup and I am able to access all files on the laptop from the desktop and vice-versa. My problem is, my wife who uses the desktop wants to save new documents in the laptop which I use when in the office. for example: wife got an email on the desktop with an attached document that she wanted to save in the 'my documents' folder on my laptop. So when she selects save as and then selects the location on my laptop through the homegroup connection she gets the error message saying you need permission to to this, we tried it the other way by trying to save a document onto the desktop from the laptop and got the same message.
I am not an expert by any means with this sort of thing so if the replies could be as simple and clear as possible, cheers.
have 1 computer operating 7 ultimate and 1 operating home premium cannot connect to the laptop under home premium. On the laptop when i go into change homegroup settings all boxes except printers are un-ticked. When I tick all the boxes then 'save changes' all seems ok until I go into change homegroup settings again I find all the boxes except printers are un-ticked again. I can't seem to keep these boxes ticked - I suspect this is why I cant access the laptop within the homegroup.

I'm able to go to my Homegroup settings and CHECK the boxes for sharing video, pictures, doc.s, and music yet, When I Click save changes, it closes-out the window and when I view Settings once more.. they remain the same as before I changed them (stuck on only "Printers"). This goes for other HomeGroup Settings as well. I'v stopped and started the HomeGroup Services "Listener" and "Provider", but the Strange thing is that it is sharing those files in My HomeGroup.. just not realizing it is.. or sumthin?? Also tried Leaving HomeGroup, Rebooted, and Joined. idk, but more than likely has to do w/ the Home Premium version.. because the Ultimate edition is able to see this Home Premium Laptop as if I had my settings changed to share and stream music, etc.. the Home Premium can't see the Ultimate edition in the HomeGroup

Upon rebooting, my computer went into "preparing your desktop" and failed, and made a temporary profile. I system restored to get backto my original settings.Now, my taskbar is empty for quick launch, and changing settings in the file explorer does not save anything.Additionally, all my system fonts seem to be different, they don't look smooth any more. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an HP pavilion DV8 laptop, and a logitech wireless USB mouse, as well as the standard laptop touch pad.
So, I can change my mouse settings in the control panel, as well as my logitech app, and as it stands they intermix slightly (The control panel effects the logitech app's sensitivity). Basically I turn my control panel speed settings up (all the way, I shouldn't have to touch the touchpad 5 times to navigate across the screen), and on the logitech app I turn the sensitivity down most of the way (any faster and its a bit squirrely to use).
The problem is, whenever I restart my computer the control panel mouse settings revert back to being REALLY slow, and it is getting a bit annoying to have to go into the control panel every time I start up.
Today I bought an HDMI cable in order to have a dual monitor with my lg 42 inch tv. I updated my drivers and tried unplugging, restarting, etc. Under my control panel when I tell it to extend it will say unable to save display settings. I run a radeon 6950?

When I try to share libraries and printers, printers is already checked, I check other options, like pictures, music, etc. I then click save changes and exit. Hence, I upgraded it with two new RAM Modules of Transcend make (2 X 4Gb) recently. However, I haven't found any noticeable performance improvement post this huge upgrade. Also, when I check the Virtual Memory settings, it shows that "Currently Allocated - 8054 Mb" and "Recommended - 12081 Mb". The check box on "Automatically allow windows to manage paging file size" is checked by default. Every time I go to this screen, and even though I don't change anything, it prompts me to save the setting and restart windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to save the Default Gateways in Advance TCP/IP Settings for my network adapter. I used the following sequence to set the values:
1. Open Adapter Settings (LAN Properties).
2. Select IPv4 and click on Properties.
3. Click Advance.
4. In the Popup select to add Default Gateways for both my Wired and Wireless network.
5. Click OK to close all open windows.
When I again open the settings, the changes in Default Gateways are all gone. The default gateway for both my wired and wireless network are same and both are connected to internet. I want to prefer wired over wireless whenever it is connected. I already tried changing Interface Metrics with no use at all. I searched the internet and got the information to select the default gateways with proper metrics.
In windows XP perfmon asked every time I wanted to close it if it should save the settings / session. In Windows 7 it says nothing and I see no way to save all the counters I've set up. There is an option to Save Settings but I see no option to load them back. Basically I want Performance Monitor to startup as I left him the last time. Any hints?

The SAVE dialog would appear but the SAVE button was missing.The effect was noticed in Office 2007 (all programs) Notepad etc etc.Seems to be a Windows fault as this should not be allowed to happen.on more traditional "Squarer" type monitors -- no problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedNow, just 3 days ago It started the BSOD issue.I realize that my GPU was the cause of this issue. When playing games or open 3d applications the temp goes 30C to 72C (In 15 seconds) then 82C - 85C constant (in about 30 seconds).Now I've been using MSI afterburner to check my temps and at fulload my GPU will be at 62-72C max temperature but now it's 10C even higher then before. No, I haven't fiddled with the voltage I set the GPU voltage to 1.037v which is the safest (been running this almost 8 months!). The GPU is the GTX 560ti.Is there a way to set the GPU on default settings or reset GPU settings in cmd or other professional way. I have uninstalled the drivers, uninstalling GPU, disabled GPU, disabled PCI-E slot and so on by using device manager and the issue still persist. Yes, I also have clean the GPU perfectly and still the temperature goes up to 82 seconds at 30seconds-45seconds. Yes, I have checked everything is set correctly and so on, I am a PC Tech.
Is the GPU damaged? Yes I have looked at this thread: Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Mainly, I know its the GPU straight away, I tried checking old drivers, new drivers, another GPU overclocked software such as GPU tweak and EVGA Precision. I am thinking it's the GPU is damaged or the PCI-E is damaged (I have another PCI-E slot on my system and the issue still there). It might be the PCI-E frequency? but it's set to 100 which it meant to be, I just hope is software related because I don't have the money to buy a new card. Did the dump files help?
i thought it was pretty straight forward. guess its not.i've got the password and whatnot ready from my computer so i want my laptop to connect to it. however it only says 'create a homegroup' rather then 'join homegroup.' i tried troubleshooting but that crap never really does anything. i really don't have a clue how to set this thing up. i tried to follow a Internet video however i just can't see 'join homegroup'. my laptop is on windows 7 home premium and my computer is on windows 7 ultimate. both on service pack 1 and 64bit.

I was told in the instructions to go to Start/Computer/ and click on Homegroup in the left hand column the choose Join Now in the window that comes up. View 5 Replies View Relatedi have a pc (Windows 7 build 7100) that is connected to two printers (of which one prints (HP laserjet CP1215) and one only scans (no ink)) and it shares those printer.
My Windows 7 build 7600 (on my main pc) added the scan-printer without asking me and didn't add the other one (the only one I can print). I then disconnected this one from the other pc and looked again, no install here.
While I used build 7100 with my main pc too, it asked me: "Do you want to install HomeGroup printer?" and it worked like a charm.
Now I tried to manually add this printer and it asked me for a driver.
I installed the HP drivers but still, not working. Then, when it asked me again to point to the .inf file, i selected the one HP-driver-installation installed (to my C:Program files folder) but it said this driver is from a "non-certified" publisher (or something like this, sadly I can't reproduce this so I don't remember the exact words).
I clicked "install nonetheless" because I knew it was the right driver (printer prints perfectly from all other Windows 7 workstations).
Now when I try to connect to the printer (still not showing up in "Devices and printers" it tries to connect, looks for a driver, kinda finds one and then tells me, it can't connect.
I cannot even select a new driver or anything, I can only close the window.
On all my other pcs (I only use Windows 7 since the RC) it works and worked without problems. I miss the "Install Homegroup printer" prompt and well ...
any ideas?
ah well i installed 32bit versions of the driver and now i downloaded 64bit versions, but even after installing it doesn't work and as I've said before, I cannot manually select a driver inf file anymore, so ... I can't install the printer.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop, HTPC, and a desktop, all connected to my internet wirelessly. All of the systems were connected to the homegroup perfectly last night, but then I started having problem this morning. The HTPC was connected to the homegroup, but unable to detect any of the computers. Same with the rest of them. So I left the homegroup from the HTPC thinking I could just reconnect. Big mistake. After that the only option that was available to me was to "create a new group". After many restarts and settings, I decided to create a new homegroup. I then left the original homegroup from my laptop, so that I could join the new homegroup, but alas, the same thing happens, I could not see the old homegroup from the desktop, or the new homegroup from the HTPC! The only option available to to create another new homegroup! I did the same thing again with my desktop, and now all three machines each on its own homegroup.
