Can't Save Changes To Home-group Settings

May 22, 2011

I can't save changes to home-group settings. When I try to share libraries and printers, printers is already checked, I check other options, like pictures, music, etc. I then click save changes and exit. The problem is when I go back in, it hasn't saved my settings - all the boxes except Printers are unchecked again.

Cannot Change Settings Of The Group Policy - Security Options?

Oct 19, 2012

I was trying to disable the 'Network Access: Do not allow storage of passwords and credentials for network authentication' since it was enabled which meant I couldn't save passwords. When I right clicked it and opened properties, the options of enabled and disabled were grayed out. Also, there is a padlock on the icon of the Security Settings tab and so does its subtabs. I am on an administrator account but it still doesn't allow me to change the settings.

Can't Setup The Home-group

Aug 30, 2011

Following the steps in the Homegroup tutorial on this site, I reach point 7, where it tells me to click on the Join now, button. However, that button doesnt appear on the screens of either machine that I want to network? Opening the home-group troubleshooter, I get a message telling me that some of the problem is network related (yeah?) and these need to be resolved first. I give the machine its head and it comes back with the response that the computers time is out of sync, on both machines. However, clicking on apply this fix, brings forth yet another screen saying Troubleshooter has completed, but was unable to fix all issues and that the problem is that my systems time differs from standard local time? I have visited the bios on both machines and made sure the times are as identical as I can get them. Ive also checked the time in control pannel.

Home Group Not Cooperating?

Jan 31, 2013

Installed win8 and now trying to connect to my Windows 7 machine. Windows 7 status is: connection internet, joined, local area connection. Win8 status is internet, not joined, local area connection. So I set up a homegroup on Win 8, have a password etc. Went to Windows 7 and tried to "reset" the home group connection there. Got error messages, " Cannot leave home group and Cannot remove your computer from Home Group" The win 8 error message initially (trying to connect to Windows 7) was "type in the user name and password??" Have no idea what that might be, assuming that is for the Windows 7 home group initial setup long ago. Hence trying to reset it. Other error messages (Windows 7) during this whole process is " Peer network resolution protocal service PNRP or peer network .. service is not (P2pimsvc) running. Also, Peer networking Grouping service is not running". I have most of the settings to ON, network discovery, sharing etc. This kinda stuff reminds me back in the days trying to get a HDD recognized by # cylinders, sectors etc. Right now trying to do a discovery just times out after 3 minutes or so, even thought the windows says may take as much as 90 seconds. If it matters, all machines connect to internet no problems, and the two machines are connected via a network switch

My settings are consistent throughout (home network, same workgroup, advanced sharing settings). The two desktops are members of the same Homegroup. The problem is with the laptop. Even though it accesses the web with no problem, it doesn't see the two desktops and can't ping either of them or the router!I have administrative rights on all three PCs while my wife has standard rights on her desktop and the laptop. One strange condition occurs in Windows Explorer where, under the Network heading in the left column, the laptop appears in from both desktop PCs (but won't expand) while neither desktop appears from the laptop.

Home Group Code 0x80630801?

Oct 13, 2011

I have two computers (towers) in Home Group. One named Silver and one named Black. From the Silver using H/G I can access the Black but from the Black I can't access the Silver computer. Received code 0x80630801 with error 1068. Peer Network Grouping Service not running. At times PNRP service and P2Pimsvc also will not start. I have tried several times in Services to turn them on but they won't start. I ran sfc /scannow, no problem found. Both computers got Tuesdays Windows updates so I don't think that is the problem because it only effects one computer. I removed the latest thing I installed on the Black computer, *LG BlueRay programs. Networking mapping looks as it should. This all was working for about a week or so when I made the Home Group.

Home-group Changes To Public Network?

Jan 8, 2012

So I have fibre optic broadband and I connect my PC and Xbox 360 together through my PC motherboard LAN connections. To explain what I have done is I have two LAN connections on my EvGA 680i motherboard and I have bridged out these two ports because I find it is is easier connecting the Xbox this way as I don't have to deal with the firewall issues and programme each file to access it and it is just smoother with no dropouts. The problem that I have though is as soon as I start up the Xbox 360 then my PC and any other laptop has this issue.Firstly the two laptops connect wirelessly. As soon as the Xbox fires up firstly it switches on my partners HP DV6000 laptop and this might be because it is a media laptop and has an infra red remote which perhaps frequencies are crossing. I can live with this. The issue is the network. Both my PC and the laptops automatically switch from a homegroup to a public network.

My PC is fine if I reboot, it will revert back to the homegroup but my partners laptop will not. It stays on this public network and so she can't access the internet.I have tried changing and managed to change back to a homegroup but it is confused in that it does not know which homegroup to connect to.I have typed in the WPA code but it does not appear to recognise this as our network. Is it because I have bridged the LAN ports and it is confusing Windows? All are using Windows 7. PC and HP laptop are Ultimate and other laptop is Professional.

Home-group Not Seen On LAN With A Cisco Switch?

I have 4 desktops, 2 laptops all running Windows 7 Ult. 4 X64, 2 X86. 4 satellite receivers, a WII and 2 PS3's all on line. I have the following setup for my network.I have a Thompson DC476 Docsys 3 plugged into a DR-615 which does the DHCP, which is plugged into a 24 port Cisco Catalyst 2950. Which feeds the rest of the house. Upstairs I have a 4 port Netgear as a dumb switch that does the wireless for the phones and a tablet and the WII.There are no real configs on the Cisco other than PORTFAST has been enabled and all ports are is switchport mode access on the default VLAN.The only way I can get the Homegroup to work is to plug all the PC's into the DR-615 and the Netgear while ensureing the Netgear is plugged into the DR s well. If they (PC's) are connected through the Cisco I loose the Homegroup. I can still see all end devices in Windows and access them as long as I've shared it out.

Home-group - No Join Now Option?

Oct 24, 2012

Have two latops, both running Windows 7, both on home network linked to BT homehub. Once had homegroup working and found it very helpful. Not sure what created original problem but now can't reestablish link - despite many many hours of trying. Can create homegroup on each laptop separately, but neither appears to 'see' the other. So once I have set up a group on one laptop, and go into the homegroup set up on the other, the 'join now' option never appears - all I get is the option to 'create a homegroup' on the second laptop. I can create a homegroup on both giving them the same passord etc but they still don't 'see' each other. Both laptops say they are joined to a homegroup, but when I click on the homegroup icon I get the message 'there are no other people in the hoemgroup'.Have run all the usual troubleshooters - the time is the same on both PCs, they both have the same workgroup name.
