Windows 7 Home Premium Homegroup Settings Not Accepting Saved Changes?

May 31, 2011

My Windows 7 Home Premium Homegroup is not accepting my settings (stuck on its own settings). I'm able to go to my Homegroup settings and CHECK the boxes for sharing video, pictures, doc.s, and music yet, When I Click save changes, it closes-out the window and when I view Settings once more.. they remain the same as before I changed them (stuck on only "Printers"). This goes for other HomeGroup Settings as well. I'v stopped and started the HomeGroup Services "Listener" and "Provider", but the Strange thing is that it is sharing those files in My HomeGroup.. just not realizing it is.. or sumthin?? Also tried Leaving HomeGroup, Rebooted, and Joined. idk, but more than likely has to do w/ the Home Premium version.. because the Ultimate edition is able to see this Home Premium Laptop as if I had my settings changed to share and stream music, etc.. the Home Premium can't see the Ultimate edition in the HomeGroup

How To Copy User Settings In Windows 7 Home Premium

Nov 4, 2011

I just got a new Windows 7 home premium x64 box at home and I'm going through the mundane task of setting everything upIs there any easy way to copy all or some of my settings to other accounts on this PC? It is a real pain to help other family members when all of their settings are different. If I could just clone everything that would be fine or if you can only copy certain application settings that would be better than nothing.

Regional Settings Not Being Saved In Windows 7?

Apr 22, 2011

I am running a report that calculates a percentage, and in order to do this I have to change the regional currency decimal settings to 3. (It is normally 2). When I make this change, it saves and the report runs fine. But after I log off then log back on, the setting reverts back to 2. I am part of a domain but there is nothing in group policy that affects regional settings. My XP system, which is also part of the domain, is able to keep the setting. Is there any reason why it won't keep this setting? It keeps it until I log off the system.

Settings Saved Does Not Match The Connection

Nov 10, 2012

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work. When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network".

Intermttent Loss Of Saved Settings

Apr 10, 2012

As of late I am experiencing a strange loss of Bios setting when I either warm boot or cold boot. Examples as follows: When restarting either from a warm restart or cold restart, I will hear 3 beeps which I believe is a memory related error, correct me if I am wrong. I do know if settings go back to default range the voltage is less than what is needed to successfully boot with OC settings enabled.I have also noticed that I sometimes do loose all of the bios settings under many different conditions, regardless of how and why I had to restart. The one setting that stands out the most is the FSB setting, many times this value is the only value changed; [goes back to default] and needs to be reset. This machine has given me yeoman service since 2008 and has been OC'D at a 50% overclock 60% of the time, the rest of the time it is OC'D at a bit higher rate and stable.I did replace the Battery on the MOBO[P5K-Premium WiFi/AP thinking this might possibly be the cause. I have found the incident of this happening to be less but values in the BIOS still change however infrequently.

Cant Upgrade From Vista Home Premium To 7 Home Premium

Oct 22, 2009

I successfully bought the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium N, downloaded and extracted it and now I want to install it.

When I choose UPDATE in the intallation dialog it tells me that I cannot upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium ???

Every website from Windows and other people tells me that it IS possible and even the Windows 7 Update Advisor told me that I should not encounter any problems upgrading.

Has anyone of you yet encountered upgrading problems of compatible Vista/7 versions?

Or any other idea what I can do to solve the problem?!

I know that I can make a clean intall of 7, but this would be a pain..

Upgrading From Vista Home Premium To 7 Home Premium?

Apr 17, 2012

Yesterday I was messing around on my brand-new laptop, and I was stupid enough to try a keygen to get Ultimate (I had HP). Surprising. It worked but the copy wasn't genuine obviously. So then I rebooted, pressed F8 at boot. An ran Toshibas recovery to try to get the computer to its out of box state. I got stuck at initializomg (either that or I was impaptient) so I turned off the laptop. Then when I truer to boot I got bootmgr is missing. I have an old vista Hp disk so I installed that for the time being. So my question is, how do I get it back to the original state? I do t have any important data or anything.

Cannot Change Homegroup Settings?

Feb 7, 2012

have 1 computer operating 7 ultimate and 1 operating home premium cannot connect to the laptop under home premium. On the laptop when i go into change homegroup settings all boxes except printers are un-ticked. When I tick all the boxes then 'save changes' all seems ok until I go into change homegroup settings again I find all the boxes except printers are un-ticked again. I can't seem to keep these boxes ticked - I suspect this is why I cant access the laptop within the homegroup.

Vista Home Premium 32bit To 7 Premium, 62% BSOD

Nov 2, 2009

The original OS was Windows XP 32bit SP3. I upgraded this system to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 with no issues.

I then went to upgrade the system to Windows 7 Premium. I chose the "Upgrade" install and not the "Clean" install. I've checked the updater to confirm that all my system information was adequate. I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Controller, iTunes, etc. that it wanted me to. Oddly enough, the ATI Catalyst Controller was the most recent driver that supports Windows 7.

I checked online to see if the hardware was all supported by Windows 7. The Sapphire Vapor-X video card was not compatible or compatible... it simply wasn't on the list of either. The X-Fi Extreme Gamer said it was NOT compatible... yet, I had a driver for Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Application checker said that my sound card was ready for Windows 7... thus a discrepency.

I went on with the installation. I get to the last step where it resets the computer at 62% and I get a BSOD for about 1/3 of a second. It goes by too quickly for me to capture it. It then restarts the computer instantly with the result of "Upgrade was not completed successfully. Restoring prior OS yadda yadda". I've gone through this about 5 times now trying different things.. keeping the Catalyst controller installed, uninstalling the video card, removing the sound card, etc. Nothing seems to work.

It was recommended to me that I do a clean install... however, I have read that many others have done a clean install and theirs STILL doesn't get past the 62%.

Is it my hardware? Do I need to buy MORE hardware now that 7 is out that is on the compatible list?

Home Network Set But Windows 7 Says Can't Join Homegroup, No Home Network

Oct 8, 2012

5 month old Dell XPS 8500 Win 7 64 bit Pro as main computer connected by Wired Adapter, Upgraded Gateway 5632E also running Win 7 64 bit pro as second connected by Wireless. Both running Kapersky successfully. no network problems for 5 mo.

Both were successfully linked using homegroup. Had to take Gateway to a remote location to do a business demo. While there had to link to a local public WiFi. While connecting made mistake and left homegroup.

When Gateway returned to homebase a few days later it was fine, had no problems finding wireless but could not see or rejoin Dell machine homegroup. It would let me set up a new homegroup.

Went to Dell box and found 1) homegroup no longer existed, 2) router and network and wireless printing no longer found - Red X on the taskbar) even though internet was still working fine.

Took nearly a week of trying differernt fixes, on adapter- off adapter- different adapter reboot network, router, even updated router firmware (Yes I went through every ipconfig reset, renew, redecorate etc. I've used netsh functions to try to get evrything to reset. Changes services.msc settings per other posts. Finally in desperation, deleted every sub key in the registry related to network locational awareness and got the Dell to find the network, let me set it up as a "home" network and then even see the invitation to join the Gateway's homegroup.

Then I hit a wall- when I try to join- Win 7 says I can't join the homegroup because the network is not a "home network". Of course troubleshooting is useless and goes into an endless loop. Have searched in desperation for any way to make Win 7 return to a clean slate so it can sense that it really is on a home network without success. Applied the fix-it and hotpatch for when Win 7 gets stuck in public mode. No joy. Deleted the hide wizard subkey as suggested elsewhere. No Joy. Gut feeling says problem must lie in the NLA or peer networking somewhere but where?

Does anyone know of a method or set of steps (short of a clean reinstall of Win 7) to completely clear every thing the OS knows about my network and force it to acknowlege my network is a home network? Is there a registry hack that will clear the problem?

I know I could abandon the homegroup and do conventional file/print share but I am concerned that using that solution won't last as whatever is screwing up the homegroup could eventually screw regular sharing and then I'm back to reformating/reinstalling. I'm just about ready to join the Apple folks so I never have to work on Windows again.

Upgrading 7 Home Basic 32 To 7 Home Premium 64

Jun 22, 2011

I have sort of a special case here. I purchased my HP laptop in Thailand, and much to my chagrin it came installed with Windows 7 Home Basic. In addition, the HP store which sold me the laptop installed 4gb of RAM neglecting to tell me that the 32bit version of 7 only supported up to 3. At any rate, I am hoping to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit edition. But while there is a glut of information online about how to upgrade from Starter, there is little to nothing about Home Basic. Do I have to buy a full copy of 7 Home Premium 64 Bit? Can I buy an Anytime Upgrade that is meant for Starter and apply it to my computer?

"printer Settings Could Not Be Saved. Error Code (0x0000000001) Or Something"

Feb 10, 2013

I am running Windows 7 and yesterday my wife bought an HP 3512 printer. It has wireless capabilities, so she thought it would be nice to be able to print from other computers or tablets or phones in our house.I originally had issues even getting it to connect via wireless but it is now connected to my router, has an IP address, and if I log into my router, I see its connection. The printer works fine if I have it plugged in via USB. But as soon as I unplug the cable, the printer goes offline. Now, I assumed that by wireless printer, that meant I would not even need it hooked up to my desktop. Maybe I am wrong on that though. But my main issue is I cannot get the printer shared with the homegroup. If I run the printer troubleshooting, it even tells me that the printer is not shared with the homegroup and I should try to have it shard as administrator. So I click that box then it tells me it found but could not fix the issue. It's still not shared. If I go to the printer, go to properties, then sharing, if I try to click share and apply changes, I get an error saying "printer settings could not be saved. error code (0x0000000001) or something. It simply will not go onto the homegroup. If I add it to the homegroup to be shared, would that allow me to move the printer off of my desk and unplug the USB and still be able to print? Also, still regarding Homegroups. My computer is connected via wire to my FIOS router. A laptop in the other room however, connects wireless. They somehow end up in different networks and cannot join the same Homegroup. Both run Windows 7. I have looked and cannot find why they would be on different networks. They were not always this way, I use to be able to see the laptop on my desktop but no longer can.

Files Saved Or Downloaded To Desktop Are Saved As Hidden?

Oct 11, 2011

I'm on a brand new HP computer running Windows 7 and everytime I download a file from the internet or even save files from local programs to my desktop, they are saved as some sort of hidden file...or at least they behave similar to hidden files. The difference is if I open up an Explorer window and browse to my desktop, I can see them there that way, but there is no icon on my desktop for the file. I CAN see the the saved file on my desktop if I turn "view hidden files" on...but when I look at the properties of said files, they are not actually marked "hidden." I can even copy/paste that same file in my desktop and I will see the copied file show up visually on the desktop, but still not the original file unless I browse to the desktop in an Explorer window. When right clicking the desktop, "Show desktop icons" is turned on and I can view all of my other desktop file icons, shortcuts, etc.

Can't Log Into Windows 7 Home Premium

Oct 2, 2010

Had Windows 7 home premium for around 2 months on a brand new desktop. Never had a single problem with it untill today. Turned it on as normal, got to the log in screen where i click on the required user. As the pc is only used by me I only have 1 user availiable. I click on it like normal but this time i get a message saying 'The user profile service service failed the logon' 'user profile cannot be loaded'. It then refreshes the page and returns me back to the logon page and if i press enter the same thing just keeps repeating itself. Other option on this page are the shutdown/sleep/restart option and a little box in the bottom left corner called ease of access with various options, but none that seem relevant to the situation.

Windows 7 Home Premium Won't Log On At All

Jan 22, 2012

I came to my laptop about five hours ago and have not been able to do anything with it since. I had it in hibernate and as I flicked the lid up it shut itself down - I assumed for updates. Nothing happened.I turned it on, started windows normally as it hadn't shut down properly and waited for the log on screen. It hung on "Please wait" for about five minutes with the circle going round and round and round, then nothing, just the home page no user no password no log on. I turned it off and turned it on again while Google'ing for answers. Seeing as I haven't been able to log in at all a lot of the answers I haven't been able to try, so far I have tried: to boot normally and end up with the hanging screen.booting safe mode, it loads files, finishes with windowssystem32DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS then restarts and I'm back to square one.booting in safe mode with networking and command prompt - same as above. F8, repair, system restore, tried all points with errors:System restore failed to extract the file (C:) from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during system restore (0x8000ffff) [code]I downloaded Windows 7 about 18 months ago from a student offer while I was at university - I was sent a CD/DVD and put it somewhere very safe, so safe I don't even know where it is!If it is any help, I also hear a ticking noise from the laptop when it gets to the start up screen just as it begins to hang, it then stops and I end up having to turn it off or it restarts itself.
