Performance Monitor Perfmon Save Settings / Session
Sep 12, 2009
In windows XP perfmon asked every time I wanted to close it if it should save the settings / session. In Windows 7 it says nothing and I see no way to save all the counters I've set up. There is an option to Save Settings but I see no option to load them back. Basically I want Performance Monitor to startup as I left him the last time. Any hints?
In internet explorer when i open it up and restore my last session it opens up many windows, including my last session, a session i may have had 2 weeks ago and other sessions?
I can't use the Resource monitor. This is build 7048. Is this a known bug? I can't find anything about it. Do any of you have this problem? It just keeps coming back until I close Resource monitor. Thanks for any info.
I mean the Resource Monitor. Also....it worked at first....I assume it's just a bug because it's a beta.
why did M$ wreck the performance monitor? i can't get to view the monitor because it's stuck in a directory (c:perflogs) that i don't have permission to access. what a crock.
unless someone can point out something i'm doing wrong. but i added counters, only to see that it's output was something in that perflogs directory.
and bill, what kinda drugs were you taking when you made windows 7? because never in my whole entire life did i ever have so many directories on my computer that i can't access. what on God's green earth were you THINKing?
I'm having problems changing the Advanced system settings to all the users on my PC. How can i enforce a certain System setting to all User Accounts without having to log them on one by one? And another one is how can transfer Personal User Directories to another Drive without removing the access permissions in them. (Example: C:\Users\Computer to D:\Users\Computer) Cause when i changed the user directory to D:/. That certain user directory can now be accessed by all Standard user accounts in my PC.
Is there any software you can install (on Win 7 Pro) that enables you to over clock and see all the performance settings and get performance results after tinkering with overclock settings.I've never looked in to this before so I thought I'd see if anybody knows of some specific software names (websites would be helpful) that can do this.
I would like to reformat my computer to speed it up again. Does reformatting slow down a computer after already being done? I want to keep some of my files, but I will not be using the windows reformat, I plan to use the "restore to factory settings" option. How would I do this? I have a "recovery" drive and I was wondering if I could store the files I want to keep onto that and when I reformat I could just transfer them over. How should I go about reformatting? I know there is a windows option for "restoring to factory settings." And I know that the last time I reformatted I used an hp tool to restore to factory settings.
Two build 7000 machines in my homegroup... One works fine and I can check/uncheck media to share in the homegroup. The laptop, however, is a different story. When I check a library to share in a home group (pictures, videos, music, etc) then click "save changes" nothing changes. When I can back into my homegroup settings, there are no check marks.
After changing my mouse pointer settings and turning off my laptop, they reset. I have Windows 7 Home Premium. I have tried multiple solutions to this, but nothing has worked.
Ive been having a problem with my services program. My laptop (vaio) has been having problems with the hot-keys and I found out the problem was that the Vaio Event Service doesnt start when I turn it on so i turn the service on and set the service to start automatically at start-up.
My computer blue screened with an IRQL Driver not less or equal error, it's the second time its happened over a few weeks. Upon rebooting, my computer went into "preparing your desktop" and failed, and made a temporary profile. I system restored to get backto my original settings. Now, my taskbar is empty for quick launch, and changing settings in the file explorer does not save anything.Additionally, all my system fonts seem to be different, they don't look smooth any more. No setting changes I attempt in explorer save at all.I found a guide about changing some settings underKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/ (some folder) but the only folder that exists there is SessionInfo.
I have an HP pavilion DV8 laptop, and a logitech wireless USB mouse, as well as the standard laptop touch pad.
So, I can change my mouse settings in the control panel, as well as my logitech app, and as it stands they intermix slightly (The control panel effects the logitech app's sensitivity). Basically I turn my control panel speed settings up (all the way, I shouldn't have to touch the touchpad 5 times to navigate across the screen), and on the logitech app I turn the sensitivity down most of the way (any faster and its a bit squirrely to use).
The problem is, whenever I restart my computer the control panel mouse settings revert back to being REALLY slow, and it is getting a bit annoying to have to go into the control panel every time I start up.
Today I bought an HDMI cable in order to have a dual monitor with my lg 42 inch tv. I updated my drivers and tried unplugging, restarting, etc. Under my control panel when I tell it to extend it will say unable to save display settings. I run a radeon 6950?
I can't save changes to home-group settings. When I try to share libraries and printers, printers is already checked, I check other options, like pictures, music, etc. I then click save changes and exit. The problem is when I go back in, it hasn't saved my settings - all the boxes except Printers are unchecked again.
I had bought my Acer notebook a while back, which had 3Gb, but seemed insufficient for my work. Hence, I upgraded it with two new RAM Modules of Transcend make (2 X 4Gb) recently. However, I haven't found any noticeable performance improvement post this huge upgrade. Also, when I check the Virtual Memory settings, it shows that "Currently Allocated - 8054 Mb" and "Recommended - 12081 Mb". The check box on "Automatically allow windows to manage paging file size" is checked by default. Every time I go to this screen, and even though I don't change anything, it prompts me to save the setting and restart windows.
I have an Acer Aspire One D255 (windows 7 ultimate) I have a problem. Why is it that whenever I change my desktop backgound and after shutting it down, the background was not what I chose? And i downloaded files (for example AIMP3 and some music files) and ALSO after shutting it down, all downloaded files and copied files were missing?
I want to save the Default Gateways in Advance TCP/IP Settings for my network adapter. I used the following sequence to set the values:
1. Open Adapter Settings (LAN Properties). 2. Select IPv4 and click on Properties. 3. Click Advance. 4. In the Popup select to add Default Gateways for both my Wired and Wireless network. 5. Click OK to close all open windows.
When I again open the settings, the changes in Default Gateways are all gone. The default gateway for both my wired and wireless network are same and both are connected to internet. I want to prefer wired over wireless whenever it is connected. I already tried changing Interface Metrics with no use at all. I searched the internet and got the information to select the default gateways with proper metrics.
I bought a new CPU and Motherboard today and put them together. I'm assuming I plugged the wires properly. So far no beeps when i start the computer but the fans are working and the LED lights light up. The monitor says "power saving" everytime I start it up. I have windows 7 32 bit installed on my hard drive and was planning to format it into windows 7 64 bit but I can't when my computer won't even start.
Since a couple of month I get an error log message when I launch permon.exe :
Error ID 2001 - Source : Usbperf Source: UsbperfType: WarningDescription: Unable to read the "First Counter" value under the usbperfPerformance Key. Status codes returned in data.
Microsoft has published a workaround but it doesn't work on my system : usbperf Event 2004 is logged in Application log
I'm trying to get rid of the pop-up that Internet Explorer gives that tells me that I can speed up my browsing by disabling add-ons. All the googling I've done tells me to run gpedit.msc and go to Administrative Templates Windows Components Internet Explorer and enable "Disable add-on performance notifications". I've run gpedit.msc and searched through the options, and no-where can I find "Disable add-on performance notifications". The only option that mentions add-ons is "Do not allow users to enable or disable add-ons". I've opened that up just in case the option I want is hidden within that, but it doesn't seem to beI run Windows 7 64 home premium (I followed some instructions I found on the net to enable gpedit.msc as it is generally only available on Windows 7 Professional) and Internet Explorer 9.
My monitor goes to sleep after about 10 minutes when I am watching a movie or something. Its really annoying because I have changed the screensaver and monitor power settings (in display settings) to never, I have changed the power settings (in Control Panel -> Power Settings -> Edit Settings -> Advanced) and put everything at never. Still the problem persists.
Windows 7 Home Premium - Fully updated as of today NVIDIA GeForce 9200 - Fully updated driver to the newest one released
When I look under windows display settings or NVIDEA settings there is not an option for a second monitor any more. There used to be. Now that I got a VGA spliter, there is not. I have tried a combination of everything from direct computer to 3 different monitors, all work perfectly, but when I attached 2 monitors with the spliter, all I get is the same image on each monitor.
When I hit detect, nothing happens, both monitors are identified as #1. Have rebooted, have updated, have done just about anything I can think of. Why would windows not show a second monitor option now?? Spliter and monitors work perfectly with the laptop and second older/slower computer. But on this better computer, faster and just should be a hell of a lot better computer, I am not getting the option for a second monitor.
Is there a way to force Windows to use the default monitor settings as used in Safe Mode, but when running in normal mode? My Nvidia GE 6100 graphics began scrambling the screen. Safe mode works ok, but on normal startup, the screen is scrambled or goes fuzzy and everything freezes. I think it's a hardware problem (it started after I added memory) but I want to keep running until it can be fixed. I have updated the drivers but it did not change anything. I tried deleting the Nvidia driver, but Windows keeps finding more.
I have a dedicated media center that has a old dell monitor (to check settings) and a 42" panasonic HD 1080 television hooked via hdmi. I'm using a combination WMC and Boxee. Problem is everytime I shut down (or just sleep) the external monitor settings >appearnace and personalization>Display>Screen Resolution> mulitple displays goes back to "show desktop only on 2" where I want it to be "duplicate these displays". so I change back and click "keep settings" and it never keeps.
I have a second monitor plugged in to my laptop. The first monitor on my laptop is 1366x768, and the second monitor plugged in by VGA is 1400x900. The setting I choose is "Show desktop only on 2". When I go to close the lid on my laptop, monitor 1 disappears from the available monitors, but reappears when I open it again. What happens, is that it reverts back to "Extend these displays" but I still want it to only "Show desktop only on 2" by default.
I just upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista, and I didn't have this issue in Vista. For some reason, my first monitor is reactivating itself and my display settings are changing without me doing anything to them. I have to go back every time to change it to show only on monitor 2.
I just accidentally changed my settings on my grapics card so that I can no longer see my desktop on the monitor connected to my HTPC. My HTPC has a monitor attached to it and it also has an HDMI out from the graphics card going to an LED TV in another room. I accidentally switched it so that the desktop can only be seen on the other TV in the other room.
All I can see on the monitor is the blank Windows 7 logo (no desktop icons) and I cannot navigate back to my AMD control page to undo this. I tried rebooting but this does not work. This is an issue as I don't have a bluetooth keyboard/mouse that I can use in the other room to control the desktop. How do I reset this? I am using a AMD HD 6750 graphics card.
In trying to get a solid grasp on PerfMon features, we were wondering what the best use of "event traces" would be and what is the info that it provides.
I changed via the dialog the TEXT SIZE via the screen resolution in the control panel to CUSTOM SIZE.With one of the newer "Cinema" or Very Wide screen (1680 X 900) displays after I'd increased the text size to over 160 % I didn't get the possibility to SAVE any documents any more via the SAVE AS button. The SAVE dialog would appear but the SAVE button was missing. The effect was noticed in Office 2007 (all programs) Notepad etc etc.Seems to be a Windows fault as this should not be allowed to happen.on more traditional "Squarer" type monitors -- no problem.
Is there any way to set the default save location folder for downloads in IE8 to the last folder that the same file type was saved in? It makes no sense to default to a single folder and have to browse through to the desired folder for every single download, so I assume there has to be an option somewhere.
