I can connect to my router, and the icon shows "Internet Access" and I can access my shared folders. But I can't access the internet. I've got both IE and Chrome and both do not work.

I seem to have a situation where my wireless connection does not include my local network, so I cannot see or connect to any local computers on my network but I can connect to the Internet just fine wirelessly. Of course, if I wire into the Ethernet port I can see the local computers. I know I should be able to access the local computers wirelessly but I cannot seem to find the "switch" to combine local and Internet access.
Basically my ethernet capability flew out the window ranomly the other day. Wireless works perfectly however.. before ...the other day.... it has been working solidly for almost a year Im plugged into a router which is running off my cable modem, both sitting less than a foot away from me. Also hooked up to the router is another computer, and my xbox the xbox works but the other computer cant seem to get a local connection either.
at first i assumed they were having an ip conflict of some sort, but why now after all this time?
I have tried:
- ipconfig /release - /renew
- abolishing bonjour
- taking the other pc completely off the router/network
- updating drivers.....rolling back the updates
- different cables different ports
-plugging directly into the modem
- and asking nicely
im on my laptop, Dell studio also the first time i noticed this happen was directly after having powered down the modem and router.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had this problem sporadically for the last month or so (since moving to this apartment). I am on the network but it says I have no internet acces. Other people on this network seem to connect fine (although they have had issues to) but I cant. I have 3 devices, all of which cant connect. On top of this, when i restart the computer or disconnect and reconnect adapter, I get internet access for about 20 seconds, enough time to load a google search or one webpage. however inevitably it always returns to the no internet access status. I have tried numerous fixs including reseting winsocks, using a new adapter, clearing browser history, changeing to static ip and changing back to automatically obtained one.

I installed a USB wireless device which worked when I tested it in wireless areas. But so far nothing has worked for the wired part. At one point before all this started, the internet worked intermittently and would work at other houses perfectly. So I assumed it was my modem or connection at my house. But then I plugged another PC into my modem and it worked instantly. So I know there is no physical problem with my connection, modem or cables.
We recently switched providers from Megapath DSL to Verizon dsl. With Megapath all computers on our network could access the internet. With verizon all the xp computers connect to the internet with no problem but the windows 7 pc's only connect intermittently and sometimes not at all. They connect to the network just fine.

I've been having connection problems for the last year, it's really annoying and so hard to understand whats happening. The internet connection is my dads, he lives in the garage beside me. He's with talk-talk fibre optic. The small modem type thing that connects is in the garage along with the main router that connects to the small thing, not sure what this is but it obviously connects to the fibre optic.His PC is connected to the router by wire, there is then a wire that runs from that router up through the garage and into the house through the wall in one of the bedrooms, this is were I have a router or two, (i've tried two routers with mixed results.) I'm connected via wireless through the second router in a room upstairs and get full signal when connected. I have a belkin 54g and a netgear dg834n. Now this morning after leaving my computer on all night, i woke up and it wasn't connected. Although this happens everyday when i turn my laptop on, i have to connect via wireless to the main router in the garage, then reconnect to the router up stairs to get the connection to come on. This time round it wont work at all. The netgear gives me - "Windows Networking TroubleShoot Error: The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken."

I made on desktop pc an ad hoc connection with protection and security key.
Turned on wlan on laptop and it was detected. But as i try to connect, at the end i get unidentified network and can't connect to Internet.
But my first try was a success and i had Internet and a working home group.
Now i don't know how sometimes i get home group (on my laptop i can share music, videos etc thats on my desktop pc) but i still don't have Internet. Or in the worst chase both are gone.
Now i noticed when i go to Network and Sharing Center and then enter "Change advanced sharing settings" i see that a Public is the (current profile). How do i change that to be the Home?

When I first set it up, the wireless connection worked flawlessly, and then the next day the internet cut out and has not connected since (currently 2 days). Note that I can still connect to the Network, it is just the internet connection that is the issue. Other computers and devices can still connect to the network and internet, and as a temp fix I am using a wired connection to the same router.
My router is a Dynalink RTA1025W Rev2 using WPA2-Personal security, and my computer has a 802.11n Wireless LAN Card.

The Connection was working about ten days ago and then suddenly stopped and read as an unidentified network no internet access. at one point is was not receiving packets but now it is but it still says no internet access on the IPv4 Connectivity. Media state is also enabled and the speed is 100.0 Mbps when i troubleshoot it says windows cant identify problem but in the details it says default gateway is available. when i use the cmd prompt ipconfig/all my local ethernet adapter has a physical address of all zeros.
This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.
Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.
The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.
I am using a Dial up connection but when I have to connect dial up connection then I have to change my local area connection ip. Is there any tip or method which is able to my local area connection ip through batch programming/Command prompt ?I need random ips every time before connect from dial up connection. anyway, after charging it up and turning it on, i started to install programmes and other bits and bobs. e.g ituens, flash player. just the usual essentials. i used the laptop to watch videos on Internet, genenral browing such as facebook, so in short, the internet was working fine. just before i went to bed that night i installed avg security (free version) and ran a full scan. when the scan finished, i put the laptop into hibernate, and went to sleep! happy in the knowledge my new gizmo was running smoothly!
just before i woke up i heard the laptop turn off as it had run out of charge. so i plugged it in and charged it up, then turned it on. this is where the problem starts...i connected via wifi however the logo at the bottom right of the screen showed the signal strength meter on empty, with a yellow star covering it. i clicked the icon, and it said, 'not connected, connections are available' and below shows im connected with 5/5 signal strength, but on 'limited access'.
1) there might be a problem with the driver for the local area connection adapter
2)there might be a problem with the driver for the wireless network connection adapter
there are 28 updates, but im unable to update them as i have no internet connection. i also cant connect via the ethernet cable.i cant roll back the drivers as there are no previously installed ones, and i cant update them as i am already up to date.my other laptop (acer aspire 5630 running on vista) works perfectly fine using wifi and the ethernet cable, so i honestly dont know whats wrong. after reading things on my acer about ways to fix the problem i came to the decision to restore the laptop to the time of my first installation which was adobe flash player (which i installed the day before.) i was unable to do a full factory reset as the only options available are to either restore to a backup, or re-install windows (which requires a disc, which i dont have). i also didnt configure a backup as i had only had the laptop a day!

Alright, so I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 build 7086 x64. Everything works just find, except my network adapters. I'll detail system specs after I explain the problem.
When i connect one of my cables, the computer attempts to identify the network. It doesnt. I check IPconfig, and it gets all DHCP information from my Linksys router, but no internet connection. I have IPv6 turned off on both adapters, as well as the VMnet adapters i use for VMware Workstation.
I attempt to ping google.com and it comes back, ping request could not find host
I attempt to ping the router, and says host unreachable.
(IPconfig data - Local Area Connection 2) (Local Area Connection 1 shows up the same with IPv4 Address 192.168.1.102)

The Gateway itself sees the Win 7 computer, but when i ping from the router to 192.168.1.103, it times out.
Also, I attempted to update the network drivers using the Intel Pro v14 Vista x64 drivers, and the installer wouldnt let me install the drivers because of "software not built for your operating system".
I just moved to Peru for my study abroad. When I first connected to the wi-fi in my homestay I was successful. Suddenly, I cannot get internet access and it says it is an "unidentified network". I have tried manually inputting IP addresses, DNS, etc. I have tried forgetting the network and disabling my virus protection. I can't even get internet when I plug an ethernet cable into my computer, directly into the router. My laptop is the only thing that isn't working, other people's computers work and my iPod and smart phone work with the network. I have a Lenovo Windows 7 PC, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Issue: when i try to stream media files ... WMV , DVI , DVIX , MKV H264 , and other format files all in HD 1080p and 720P and HD Sound ... i get hicups or latency in playback or windows media player will not respond ... i have k-lit codecs 32bit and 64bit installed and supporting Blu-ray i have power dvd and win DVD 11 and Windows media center properly setup with tv tuner and remote control all pc are wired connected , firewall off on all pc , windows files and printer shirring is on and Home Network is setup so i am able to see all my pc and devices and able to transfer files between computers with no problems sometime i am able to transfer files at 85 MB/s to 120 MB/s but still media streaming is not working properly ... i tried for test to use media player classic and other software like VLC same results I have tried this setup before but it failed because i did not have proper setup but now i have all networking gears , Hardware , and software and nice home setup Meida streaming on the routor is on ... and firewall is off on the routor for local connection GUP Power need to be in Media center pc has been fix with brad new DDr5 1GB 775 chip graphic card with HDMI connections and sound is via HDMI to Samsung 120 hrz HDTV LCD and for extra gpu i added gforce 210 on files server but results are all negitive on Media streaming and watching movies from one center place like my PC 2 which has 11TB + 160 GB 32MB Hard drive ..Both computer are supper fast and have Windows 7 ultmate and enterprise and my other pc are file server and second media center pc which i am building for my bed room?
We've got our machine plugged directly into the modem and it previously worked fine. At some point something happened and now I have to connect via wireless. When I go the Network and Sharing Center and click "Change Adapter Settings", the only thing in the folder is "wireless network connection". I know the plug in connection works because I tested it on a laptop. I can even find where I can "opt in" or enable a LAN connection.

The thing is I don't have a ton of space right now so I would like to only need 1 monitor/mouse/keyboard. I also would rather not use a KMV. At my school we are able to log onto our windows user account on any computer in the school by connecting through the local network. I would love to somehow set this up on my new server and regular PC but don't know what its called or how to research it. It seems very similar to a VPS or remote desktop but is not really either.
