No Local Network Connection Option
Sep 21, 2012
We've got our machine plugged directly into the modem and it previously worked fine. At some point something happened and now I have to connect via wireless. When I go the Network and Sharing Center and click "Change Adapter Settings", the only thing in the folder is "wireless network connection". I know the plug in connection works because I tested it on a laptop. I can even find where I can "opt in" or enable a LAN connection.

Windows 7 build 7057 EEE 1000HE
I seem to have a situation where my wireless connection does not include my local network, so I cannot see or connect to any local computers on my network but I can connect to the Internet just fine wirelessly. Of course, if I wire into the Ethernet port I can see the local computers. I know I should be able to access the local computers wirelessly but I cannot seem to find the "switch" to combine local and Internet access.

A week ago I put together a new computer and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, every thingy installed just fine even the Ethernet drivers that came with the Motherboard disk installed ok, but I get 'Unidentified Network' for my network and only local connection. I have reinstalled the drivers many times. I am on another computer hooked up to the same router and modem, but it is running Vista instead, but the internet works just fine, and it is using the same cable as my other computer so it can't be the cable.
My computer Specs:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz
MSI NF750-G55 AM3 NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard
EVGA 1GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) [2x - Sli]
SAMSUNG 1TB 7200rpm Hard drive
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)

OS: Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on Laptop and PC (custom build).
Router: ASUS RT-N56U
Switch: D Link DES 1008e
Network Adapter PC: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
Network Adapter Laptop: Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
When either is plugged directly into the router, no ethernet cable is detected. If you run either the PC or laptop through the switch first, it works just fine. I have uninstalled and re-installed network drivers, I've uninstalled and deleted the adapters and software and started from scratch. I've checked all of the setting 3 times over.

I have successfully connected my two Windows7 machines via local network (Ethernet) - it worked automatically, no setup was needed. Everything is fine, for example I'm able to use a share mouse utility via the local network and control both computers with the same mouse. However once the network is swtiched on, my stick modem mobile 3G internet connection is shut down (the browser reports DNS name not resolved error). If I turn off the router the internet connection immediately returns. I tried to disable the firewall but to no avail.

Basically my ethernet capability flew out the window ranomly the other day. Wireless works perfectly however.. before ...the other day.... it has been working solidly for almost a year Im plugged into a router which is running off my cable modem, both sitting less than a foot away from me. Also hooked up to the router is another computer, and my xbox the xbox works but the other computer cant seem to get a local connection either.
at first i assumed they were having an ip conflict of some sort, but why now after all this time?
I have tried:
- ipconfig /release - /renew
- abolishing bonjour
- taking the other pc completely off the router/network
- updating drivers.....rolling back the updates
- different cables different ports
-plugging directly into the modem
- and asking nicely
im on my laptop, Dell studio also the first time i noticed this happen was directly after having powered down the modem and router.
below is the ipconfig

I started getting a "DNS not responding"? on my desktop. All my wireless devices work fine, and when I turn off my laptop's WiFi card and plug it into the same router it works as well.I've done some Googleing on the issue and none of what I found has helped. When I do an ipconfig on each maching, the thing I notice is that on the working laptop I have an entry for the "Connection specific DNS suffix under the "Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection", where on the desktop that's not working the suffix is blank.

My Netgear WGR614v6 does not show up as an option to connect to.

This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.
Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.
The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.

Okay, so a long time ago i tried to use my laptop to connect to xbox live using my wireless internet. It said in the guide that after bridging and all that, i wont be able to use the port for connecting to the internet with an ethernet cable. Well, i was stupid and decided to do it, and can't find a fix for it anywhere. The Local Area Connection is completely missing and when i connect an ethernet cable to the port, nothing happens. I wont go into details, but now i need to use an ethernet cable instead of wireless to connect to my internet, and my port doesnt work and I cant find the Local Area Connection. here's an image so I dont get spammed with people asking me to give them full system scan info.

amd athlon x2 6000+Broadcom netxtreme 57xx gigabite controller (integrated)Fresh Install today.(no updates or sevice pack on yet)I have had this problem for about 4 months now,It started when i put my daughters xp laptop into the local connection(I use a 3 dongle to connect to Internet always have and never had any trouble, shared connection).I got xp working on my network no trouble, the trouble began when i switched off and went to bed.The next morning I replugged my xbox 360 into the local adapter and got the unidentified connection,to cut a long story short I have tried all fixes I could find on the Internet but nothing worked,so I manually assigned a ip address in the ip4 properties and everything i put on local adapter now works but it still says public unidentified network.
So today I formatted and re-installed windows 7 expecting this problem to be fixed but no,it is exactly the same,I am going bald way to quick as It Is,I have this error in event log every time i restart or disable/enable local connection .event id 1001Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x001EC93E0D7B. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server. Also this one :The Mobile IP Route Manager service failed to start due to the following error: This driver has been blocked from loading The DHCP allocator has disabled itself on IP address 169.254.149.243, since the IP address is outside the 192.168.137.0/255.255.255.0 scope from which addresses are being allocated to DHCP clients. On Friday, everything was working as normal on my computer, I was sharing, and the ps3/xbox were on the network and able to play all files. As of saturday afternoon, the networking part suddenly stopped, and I could no longer find my computer on any other device on the network, but I did still have internet capabilities. I didn't think too much into it at the time and figured it was some workgroup error. Saturday night I try to rebuild the workgroup in hopes to fix the problem and also uninstall a scanner that wasn't working. I went to the add/remove programs list, and uninstalled the HP scanner/printer software, and then BOOM, no more internet at all. The other computers and consoles all still have internet, so it has to be something on the computer.
