Can't Access Files After Reinstall Windows 7?

Sep 2, 2010

Recently I have reinstall my Windows 7 (Professional) for some reasons. I use the same version for the new install. But when I try to open my files, some programs said that they can't create folder in the target location (iPod Video Converter), some said that they need administrator permission to put the file I've downloaded (Internet Download Manager), and some said that they can't open the file (Windows Media Player Classic - from K-Lite Mega Codec)

Need To Reinstall Outlook, But Can't Access It To Save Pst Files

Nov 17, 2012

My primary user profile is corrupted and I am going to have to reinstall Windows 7. Because I cannot access my old user profile, I cannot start Outlook 2010 and access my email files. However, I have located the Outlook.pst files and have saved copies of them. What I am wondering is, once I have Outlook 2010 installed on the fresh OS install, how can I restore my email and email settings? I suspect that it is far too much to expect that I can just copy the pst files to the proper location. However, without being able to start Outlook, I can't follow the recommended procedures for backing up the mail data.

Access Denied After Windows 7 Reinstall?

Sep 15, 2012

Upgraded my motherboard and CPU. Reinstalled Windows 7 on SSD. Moved user files to one of my hard drives per the tutorial. Optimized Win 5 for the SSD per the tutorial.

My preexisting desktop items are unchanged on my desktop, however, most of the items give me an access denied error. A handful do not.

I have taken full ownership of the drive and all the children. I have set permissions to full control for the drive and all the children.

Looking at the files I can access, and the files I cannot. I can see no difference in the permissions, ownerships, etc.

D Drive Is Access Denied After Windows 7 Reinstall

Sep 29, 2009

I had a problem with Homegroups on my previous installation of Windows 7 that I could only resolve by reinstalling Windows 7 RC Ultimate. My computer has one hard disk that I partitioned to C: and D:, C: has the operating system and D: has my data. After reinstalling Windows 7, I tried to access D: but I received "Access Denied" error. In computer management, the drive is present, Windows can see it but it cannot access it.

Can't Access Other Home Computers Drives Since Windows 7 Reinstall

Oct 16, 2011

I recently did a complete reinstall of Windows 7 64-bit on my desktop computer and now I can't access shared drives on my wife's Windows 7 computer (home ethernet network). I was able to install and use the shared printer attached to her computer. I am able to add her shared drives to my Windows Explorer as mapped network drives, but if I click on one an error box pops up: "J: is not accessible. Access is denied."

Her computer and all of her drives show up in the Network section of Windows Explorer, but if I click on one, I get a Network Error popup saying "Windows cannot access \Wife-pcc. You do not have permission to access \Wife-pcc. Contact your network administrator to request access." I am able to control her desktop and transfer files using UltraVNC...that's actually the only way I can transfer files at the moment.

If, from her computer, I right-click her C: drive, select Properties -> Sharing, it shows the drive is shared. If I click the Advanced Sharing button, and then click the Permissions button, under "Group or user names" it shows "Everyone", and shows the permissions as Full Control, Change, and Read. What else do I need to do so that I can access her drives as Mapped Network Drives? I was able to do so prior to reinstalling Windows 7 on my computer, and nothing has changed on her computer.

After Reinstall Cannot Access Shared Drives On PC2

May 26, 2012

A week ago I had to reinstall Windows 7 on a second PC (PC2) which now has an SSD. However, the original disk (a 500GB Seagate) has been used to reorganise partitions of which there are now eight. Three of these I can access from PC1 with no problem. However, the last four plus a 1TB drive there is no way I can access them - I can look at them but there's no way I can copy any files or folders to them.I've checked the drive permissions via the Security tab and set everything I can to Full Control. However, out of the five there is one Name I cannot change and that is CREATOR OWNER which has permissions set to Special and which so far I've found no way of changing. In relation to the Names they are a little different to mine. All five are the same except that PC2 has CREATOR OWNER. I have Authenticated Users that PC2 doesn't have; none of PC2's drives have an Authenticated Users entry. Should it?

To clarify the Names we both have they are listed below:

PC1
Administrators (Username/Administrator)
Authenticated Users
Everyone
SYSTEM

[code].....

I've just checked a third PC we have upstairs and that is different again most drives ONLY having Everyone with only one drive having the Names above under PC1 but NOT Everyone. So I suppose that makes me one confused chick. What the hell gives with the Names Groups? What should I have and what should I NOT have or not need?

Trying To Access Old AppData Folder After Reinstall

Jan 11, 2013

I recently installed an SSD in my PC, and did a fresh install of Windows 7 in the process. I unplugged the HD with the existing install of Windows 7 during the installation process, and plugged it back in after. Now I'm trying to retrieve some settings for an app I had on my previous installation. But when I go to my old Windows 7 boot drive (now D: ) and try to access the AppData folder, it seems to be showing me the contents of my current AppData folder on C: instead. Is this what Windows does? If so, is there any way around it, so I can retrieve the application data that I'm after?

Cannot Reinstall Fresh Windows 7 - Computer Restarts When Loading Files

Nov 22, 2011

I am attempting to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on my laptop and am having multiple problems. The HDD is formatted completely empty.

1. When attempting to use the Reinstallation DVD from Dell, the DVD boots and the progress bar moves that says "Windows is loading files," then the computer restarts and it is stuck in an infinite loop.
2. When attempting to use a copy of Windows 7 on a USB drive, the drive boots up until you see the cursor to begin the reinstallation process, then the computer restarts and it is stuck in an infinite loop.
3. When attempting to use a Windows XP DVD, it starts the setup process, and then I get error: STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF78D2524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

I have been able to boot command line Linux distros (haven't tried any graphical distros) without any problems. Dell instructed me to run diagnostics on everything, and everything passed, so it doesn't seem like there are any apparent hardware issues. I tried pulling the battery and just using the power cord and also removing one of the sticks of RAM and attempting installation, but I have the same problems.

Specs:
Dell Inspiron 1545 (Late 2010)
Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Core 2 Duo
320GB HDD
4GB RAM

2nd Drive Not Showing Files After Reinstall?

Jan 24, 2012

I picked up a virus and had to use the reinstall option on Windows 7.

The big problem is that my 1TB secondary drive is not letting me access files (the drive is still showing space used, I just can't see it).

I have a couple months worth of pictures I'd really like to not lose.

I use a 64gig SSD for a boot drive and everything else is set up on the mechanical 1TB drive. This was a clean install about 9 months ago, both drives were new and I used a full version of Windows 7.

Can't Copy Old Windows Files Access Denied?

Jan 14, 2011

i installed windows 7 pro x64 recently. i'm in the process of copying my own old windows xp files, as well as copying the backed up windows xp files from my friend's installation that were in my old hard drive. i've been battling windows 7 with permissions left and right to copy the remaining files. i'm trying to delete my old windows installation folder. there's a file in sytem32 that's preventing me from deleting. i've established ownership, i've changed it so i have fullprivileges, i've changed it to enable sharing, disable sharing, i have UAC down to medium, still keep getting you need permissions and the try again message, and no matter how many times i click on try again it comes back up.

now this is also happening when trying to copy files from my friend's old installation to my portable hard drive. we're talking about movie files, folders, documents, etc. still keep getting permission requests and no matter how i go about it, it keeps asking again and again and the files never copy. i thought maybe if i renamed the documents and settings folder that i'm grabbing them from, but that made no difference.it is so difficult to enjoy this new windows when at every step there is some assinine feature like this!
