View 2 Repliesi installed windows 7 pro x64 recently. i'm in the process of copying my own old windows xp files, as well as copying the backed up windows xp files from my friend's installation that were in my old hard drive. i've been battling windows 7 with permissions left and right to copy the remaining files. i'm trying to delete my old windows installation folder. there's a file in sytem32 that's preventing me from deleting. i've established ownership, i've changed it so i have fullprivileges, i've changed it to enable sharing, disable sharing, i have UAC down to medium, still keep getting you need permissions and the try again message, and no matter how many times i click on try again it comes back up.
now this is also happening when trying to copy files from my friend's old installation to my portable hard drive. we're talking about movie files, folders, documents, etc. still keep getting permission requests and no matter how i go about it, it keeps asking again and again and the files never copy. i thought maybe if i renamed the documents and settings folder that i'm grabbing them from, but that made no difference.it is so difficult to enjoy this new windows when at every step there is some assinine feature like this!
Recently got a new computer with Windows 7 and still learning the in and outs of the machine.I was trying to open some files and folders and I get a error message saying file is not accessible and access is denied . I am the adminstator of the computer with no one else having those rights so why would I have this problem . Can I change a setting where I never receive this message at all or do I have to change settings for every file that I come across that I get this message?
View 11 Replies View RelatedSeveral days ago I managed to synchronize my computer with my Xbox 360 using Windows Media Center. I don't know what happened between now and then, but my computer seems to have locked my administrative controls. Most of my files I had beforehand are denying me the ability to do anything, except open and view the contents.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a notebook an Acer travelmate TM8372TG-5454G50Mnbb. Windows 7 only. When I try and access the C drive, it says " c: is not accessible Access is denied." When I try and open some other things like CCleaner and MalwareBytes, it says "Windows cannot access C:program files......Check the spelling or there might be a problem with your network....." I have managed to run MalwareBytes (nothing found) & Windows Reg Repair from a USB in safe mode, it didn't work.
I have also run a full scan with Avast (Now Avast doesnt work and is always in unprotected mode). I also noticed in safe mode there is a "repair your computer" option, I tried that and no success either. I have been able to system restore in safe mode but that didn't work either. (I couldn't restore in normal admin mode, it wouldn't let me). I can access the internet ok but cant seem to open anything that needs to run, picture and movie folders are all accessible (but not via the c: drive).
I had a problem with Homegroups on my previous installation of Windows 7 that I could only resolve by reinstalling Windows 7 RC Ultimate. My computer has one hard disk that I partitioned to C: and D:, C: has the operating system and D: has my data. After reinstalling Windows 7, I tried to access D: but I received "Access Denied" error. In computer management, the drive is present, Windows can see it but it cannot access it.

(And haven't tried a mac.)Can I somehow change permissions or ownership on the EXTERNAL drive to access my own documents? Anything else?If I throw it against the wall, will that work? Who is this other administrator to give access, when I'm the only administrator?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been attempting to delete files from Norton Internet Security, which has been inactive for a long time (we are not going to renew our account) and has been bugging us constantly. I assumed it would be an easy task, and I couldn't have been farther from the truth.I went into the C:Program Files (x86)Norton Internet Security where the data for the program is found, and I couldn't delete the files. A dialogue saying "You need permission to perform this action You require permission from administrators to make changes to this folder".I thought it weird, since I am one of the computer's administrators. Next, I logged on to my dad's profile (at his insistence, though there shouldn't be any difference in the administrator powers of our profiles). The same result followed.Next, I looked online in a Google search and found this site, which told me to use the command prompt to first give me the ownership of the files, then give me complete permissions to the files, and then delete them. All three of these actions failed. The command prompt said "Access denied".

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7, Enterprise, 32-bit OS. It's Dell E5400 notebook. My machine for sometime was a part of a domain. Now I have changed from Domain to Work group. I don't know what went wrong, but I cannot access neither optical drive nor pen drive at usb. I went for take ownership at security tab at their properties. But there was not security tab there. I formatted my pen drive with NTFS file system and found security tab. But no use. I cannot take ownership. I am getting these errors : "an error occurred while applying security information to: :F" and "access is denied" I went in safe mode. Everything was accessible there. From safe mode, I tried to give permission to "administrators" including my user account, but same error occurred.

I tried new firmware downloaded from Sony but this did not help.

Even the c: drive is accessed by Virus scanners etc., I cannot open C: through Windows Explorer. Programs installed in C:Program files are also not runnable. Even System Protection cannot be accessed through Computer Properties->System Protection.I have tried Safe Mode wherein System Restore works but that restoration has not got rid of the problem. Netizens tell me that this the mischief of a virus - autorun.inf virus and suggested Autorun Eater and Autorun Remover these two did not even install/run properly. One suggestion was to access c: through cmd.exe - look for autorun.infs there and delete them: unfortunately there are thousands of them - bewildering - which of them can be deleted safely?!

View 7 Replies View Relatedi recently updated my OS from Windows XP to Windows 7. I have two HDD one for my OS install and one for my documents etc. I wiped clean for a fresh install the OS drive which removed XP and now contains Win7. The documents drive however wont open. I keep receiving the same message which is...F: is not accessible.Access is denied.I have tried numerous tutorials and browsed many forums where people have had the problem. The techniques ive tried include changing permissions from the properties, trying to change permission through cmd and all the rest. Another piece of information is that when i look at the properties of the drive it shows that its empty.
