Get The Message The Drive Is Not Accessible,'access Is Denied'
Dec 21, 2011
I can't access my external hard drive on my computer but I can from my laptop I get the message the drive is not accessible,'access is denied'. I was able to until recently, I use it for my backup.
I have a WD 2tb Elements External HDD. I was playing around with the shared settings the other day and think I may have deleted something because I can no longer gain access to the drive. I've tried adding users, permissions, connecting to a different computer but nothing. I really dont wanna format it as its got a lot of work stuff i need on it
I have a notebook an Acer travelmate TM8372TG-5454G50Mnbb. Windows 7 only. When I try and access the C drive, it says " c: is not accessible Access is denied." When I try and open some other things like CCleaner and MalwareBytes, it says "Windows cannot access C:program files......Check the spelling or there might be a problem with your network....." I have managed to run MalwareBytes (nothing found) & Windows Reg Repair from a USB in safe mode, it didn't work.
I have also run a full scan with Avast (Now Avast doesnt work and is always in unprotected mode). I also noticed in safe mode there is a "repair your computer" option, I tried that and no success either. I have been able to system restore in safe mode but that didn't work either. (I couldn't restore in normal admin mode, it wouldn't let me). I can access the internet ok but cant seem to open anything that needs to run, picture and movie folders are all accessible (but not via the c: drive).
I am having an issue with a current update for Windows-7, my desktop became a default and i cannot load my old one. i found a solution that tells me i need to go to windowssystem32configsystemprofiledesktop and delete the default desktop and restart pc which should put everything back to normal. The problem is, is that my UAC administrator is shut down, i've tryed many ways to turn it off, but nothing allows me to, because anything that has anything to do with Administrator privilege it will only deny and block my actions, it is not a virus. on this website i found that solution, but how do i bypass Administrator privilege?Anything like a computer restore, anything that asks the administrator privilege Alot of things say : The Dependency Service or group failed to start when i click on System Restore.
Windows 7 AMD Phenom(tm) 2 x4 965 Processor, 3.4 GHz 14.0GB of ram 64-bit Operating system
For some unknown reason i have come to my computer and whenever i click on the C: My computer or any icon on my desktop or try and edit any file (delete etc) i get the pop up message C: is not accessible access is denied Location is not available.I thought this might have something to do with user accounts however I am the only user and administrator of the laptop and have all wrights, box's ticked.
I have this problem in which, windows 7 basically locks up the hard drive. Start > Computer > Hard Disk Drives(1) > Local Disk (C: >"Location is not accessible - C: is not accessible - Access is denied."I can access other parts of the hard drive like c:usersetc... but other than that I just can't open drive c: from anywhere or any command, and even in cmd.I have included some pictures.one thing I did notice is that there is no window icon on the hard drive, on my desktop, the there's a little windows icon, on top of the local disk drive c: on top of the share drive icon in the windows explore
I have tried on multiple occasions to upload photos to Facebook, and things like using an online coverter to switch a psd file to jpg .. I am unable. This windows 7 tells me "Access denied" to upload my own files to a website. Ridiculous. I go through all the motions and am greeted with this: "C:UsersPublicDocumentsMy Pictures is not accessible.Access is denied"I'm nearly pulling my hair out over this simple and alien of an issue I have never heard of in my 10 years of computer geekness.
How do i access the already built-in administrator account so i can make security/privilege changes so that i can change time servers using the command linebecause every time i use the NET TIME command it gives me a "access denied" error; which tells me something, only Im not sure what needs to be changed. Also, it says I already am a administrator so why is it giving me a access denied message?
"Recycle Bin" <!> The RecycleBin on C: is corrupted. Do you want to empty Recycle Bin for this drive? If I say "Yes" "Folder Access Denied" <!> You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder.
It show the name of some hieroglyphics w/ "Date created: 4/3/2011..." -"Continue"- -"Skip"- -"Cancel"- If I continue, it changes -"Continue"- to -"TryAgain"- I notice that in the note it says "You require permission from <<my computersubfolder>> to make changes to this folder."
But I already have permission: I'm logged in as that person. I change to name to "corrupted" and tried to delete but won't work...
I use Windows 7 home premium 64bit.Normally, I can use my external harddrive with my laptop perfectly. But I dont know why few days ago I cannot access to my harddrive anymore and it shows "E: is not accessible. Access is denied"
I am denied access with the notice: "C:Documents and Settings is not accessible" "Access is denied"I have no idea why. My pc needs no password (All users have asdminstrator rights). I went to Properties and tried editing the "Security" settings but access is denied there also.The folder has a small arrow as one sees on shortcuts.I checked C:Users and found all these with the same problem...;
C:UsersAll UsersApplication Data ditto Desktop ditto Documents ditto Favorites ditto Start Menu ditto Templates
There are loads of other folders like this. Too many to list here.
I wouldn't go so far to say, I'm totally computer illiterate, but not far from it.. If there's anyone out there, who's up for a challenge I'm running windows 7. I am the administrator. Someone I don't trust at all, used my PC a while back. After he (did whatever he did) I noticed I couldn't access several files. I get a "access denied" or you don't have permission to view this file, owner info etc.. I can see a lot of the files, but their either empty now or I can't view them. I have used restore many times in the past, but now I get a message " no restore points".. I don't know what he did, or if he did anything.. It could be one of my kids changed properties by mistake, before I wised up and created a basic user acct w/ limited access for them.. I almost forgot. When I go into file properties there is a red x by my user name (administrator) Not in every property, but several.. Sometimes there is a red x by other user names, as well, but mostly mine.
I managed to remove all user access to the windows drive by mistake.
Now i cant access my main windows drive. Windows runs fine but i can't run some software, save any files to desktop and stuff. Please help as i don't want to reinstall ! i dont' see any security tab inside properties.
I keep receiving a pop up error message box at random times that shows Internal error and the message "Access is denied". I was able to take a screen shot of when it happened again in case anyone needs to see it. The times this pop up did show was once when I was using the calculator and the other was when I typed the specific page # I wanted to print out.
I am using Windows 7, Enterprise, 32-bit OS. It's Dell E5400 notebook. My machine for sometime was a part of a domain. Now I have changed from Domain to Work group. I don't know what went wrong, but I cannot access neither optical drive nor pen drive at usb. I went for take ownership at security tab at their properties. But there was not security tab there. I formatted my pen drive with NTFS file system and found security tab. But no use. I cannot take ownership. I am getting these errors : "an error occurred while applying security information to: :F" and "access is denied" I went in safe mode. Everything was accessible there. From safe mode, I tried to give permission to "administrators" including my user account, but same error occurred.
My external dvd/cd drive (Sony DRX S7OU W) previously worked from this computer running on Windows 7 but I now receive the message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access them." The same dvd/cd drive continues to work on other computers. All other devices that I link to this port (camera, ipod) continue to function. I tried new firmware downloaded from Sony but this did not help.
In my Dell Alienware Aurora ALX desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, after trying to install an Oracle App, suddenly my System OS Hard Drive c: became inaccessible."Access Denied".The other drive D: is fully accessible. Even the c: drive is accessed by Virus scanners etc., I cannot open C: through Windows Explorer. Programs installed in C:Program files are also not runnable. Even System Protection cannot be accessed through Computer Properties->System Protection.I have tried Safe Mode wherein System Restore works but that restoration has not got rid of the problem. Netizens tell me that this the mischief of a virus - autorun.inf virus and suggested Autorun Eater and Autorun Remover these two did not even install/run properly. One suggestion was to access c: through cmd.exe - look for autorun.infs there and delete them: unfortunately there are thousands of them - bewildering - which of them can be deleted safely?!
'D' DRIVE ON MY COMPUTER SHOWS "ACCES IS DENIED" WEN I TRY TO OPEN IT . I HAD ORIGINALY LOCKED IT USING BIT LOCKER AND IT WAS OPENING NORMALLY AFTER PUTTING IN A PASSWORD BUT NOW IT SHOWS "ACCESS IS DENIED " WEN I TRY TO OPEN IT.
when i insert any usb drive like pen drive of 2/4 gb wiindows shows access denied but in other pc that drive is fully ok, i can not use any pendrive in my pc now,
I had a problem with Homegroups on my previous installation of Windows 7 that I could only resolve by reinstalling Windows 7 RC Ultimate. My computer has one hard disk that I partitioned to C: and D:, C: has the operating system and D: has my data. After reinstalling Windows 7, I tried to access D: but I received "Access Denied" error. In computer management, the drive is present, Windows can see it but it cannot access it.
External hard drive salvaged from computer running Windows XPEncased, plugged into USB on new computer running (not by choice) Windows 7(Know where this is going?) Given every permission and ownership to new computer to have its way with docs on external drive. Can't copy docs from external drive to new computer even in (basicithout networking) safe mode. (And haven't tried a mac.)Can I somehow change permissions or ownership on the EXTERNAL drive to access my own documents? Anything else?If I throw it against the wall, will that work? Who is this other administrator to give access, when I'm the only administrator?
i recently updated my OS from Windows XP to Windows 7. I have two HDD one for my OS install and one for my documents etc. I wiped clean for a fresh install the OS drive which removed XP and now contains Win7. The documents drive however wont open. I keep receiving the same message which is...F: is not accessible.Access is denied.I have tried numerous tutorials and browsed many forums where people have had the problem. The techniques ive tried include changing permissions from the properties, trying to change permission through cmd and all the rest. Another piece of information is that when i look at the properties of the drive it shows that its empty.
Free Space: 0bytes Used Space: 0bytes Capacity: 0bytes
The drive contains all the files i backed up from my previous OS and all the files that was originally on it.
i have an ACER laptop. a few weeks ago, i installed oracle 11g software twice and uninstalled it. it was after the 2nd uninstallation that i noticed, C: drive access is denied.the c: drive is now under NTFS. i tried system restore but there was no use. i tried making changes to admin and security through another user, but the fault still continued.i am able to switch on and shut down the system, surf the web. but i am unable to do basic operations like copy, cut, paste, move, download files etc.i have several important documents which i would not like to lose.
