View 1 RepliesI am having an issue with a current update for Windows-7, my desktop became a default and i cannot load my old one. i found a solution that tells me i need to go to windowssystem32configsystemprofiledesktop and delete the default desktop and restart pc which should put everything back to normal.The problem is, is that my UAC administrator is shut down, i've tryed many ways to turn it off, but nothing allows me to, because anything that has anything to do with Administrator privilege it will only deny and block my actions, it is not a virus. on this website i found that solution, but how do i bypass Administrator privilege?Anything like a computer restore, anything that asks the administrator privilege Alot of things say : The Dependency Service or group failed to start when i click on System Restore.

For some unknown reason i have come to my computer and whenever i click on the C: My computer or any icon on my desktop or try and edit any file (delete etc) i get the pop up message C: is not accessible access is denied Location is not available.I thought this might have something to do with user accounts however I am the only user and administrator of the laptop and have all wrights, box's ticked.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a notebook an Acer travelmate TM8372TG-5454G50Mnbb. Windows 7 only. When I try and access the C drive, it says " c: is not accessible Access is denied." When I try and open some other things like CCleaner and MalwareBytes, it says "Windows cannot access C:program files......Check the spelling or there might be a problem with your network....." I have managed to run MalwareBytes (nothing found) & Windows Reg Repair from a USB in safe mode, it didn't work.
I have also run a full scan with Avast (Now Avast doesnt work and is always in unprotected mode). I also noticed in safe mode there is a "repair your computer" option, I tried that and no success either. I have been able to system restore in safe mode but that didn't work either. (I couldn't restore in normal admin mode, it wouldn't let me). I can access the internet ok but cant seem to open anything that needs to run, picture and movie folders are all accessible (but not via the c: drive).
I have this problem in which, windows 7 basically locks up the hard drive. I'd like to put a .cmd file in my c:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsStartup directory, but Documents and Settings has a lock on it and tells me "Access denied" when I click on it. Is this a job for "Take Ownership" or is there another way? The instructions for "Take Ownership" say not to use it on the C drive, but it's not clear if that applies to the whole drive, or individual files/folders on it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have one PC running Vista (home basic), one running XP (professional) and one running Windows 7 (home basic). There is a printer connected to the Vista box, which is shared.
On the XP box I can both see and use the printer on the Vista box (i.e. a "net view \vistabox" shows the printer, and under "printers and faxes" I can install and use it).
On the Windows 7 box, however, I can see the Vista box (i.e. a "net view" shows it in the list of available PCs on the network) but a "net view \vistabox" gives me an "access denied" error.
The Windows 7 machine has a password on it, the Vista and XP machines don't. All machines are on the same workgroup name (which is "WORKGROUP"). On the XP box I don't need a password to access the shared printer on the Vista machine; it just works.
Extensive Googling has failed to render enlightenment, nor has browsing this forum. I'm sure it has something to do with security and passwords, somewhere, somehow, but I have no idea in which direction to look for it, let alone fix it. I have also read some things about workgroups and homegroups not being the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if this is correct (and if so, relevant).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI haven't really had any issues since I first installed Windows 7 and now I'm trying to access a shared drive over a network and I'm getting this annoying error message that I cannot access a shared drive over the network.
I decided to reinstall Windows 7 and before that I never had this issue.
I have not installed any third party software, I've enabled network discovery and right now I cannot access any shared folders or drives, at all, though it can see it.
I'm getting that stupid error message: "<Network drive> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."
What am I doing wrong here?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy husband and I have been trying to get pictures from our camera (Fuji FinePix S3400) to the computer with the supplied USB lead. WE have been able to do so by taking the SD card and shoving it into the computer but we can't do so with the lead which we prefer to do. It seems wrong that we can't do that! With lots of going into all jigging around into files and setting we keep getting the message, "Access is Denied". We have even got into security of the folder and put in "Authenticated Users". We have an Acer that was bought with Vista and then converted to Win 7.

I am the adminstator of the computer with no one else having those rights so why would I have this problem . View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, I have XP and Win 7 setup in dual boot mode, but I can't run XP because (I am pretty sure) the boot.ini file I have in Win 7 now is pointing to the wrong disk and partition for the location of XP. So I wanted to edit the boot.ini file and change the numbers so that it would point to the correct one. But when I go to save changes I keep getting "Access Denied" message. I have admin privileges, so I don't understand why it won't let me write to it. Is there a security setting I need to change so that I can edit this file?
