Trying To Delete Program Files / Access Denied

Dec 22, 2011

I've been attempting to delete files from Norton Internet Security, which has been inactive for a long time (we are not going to renew our account) and has been bugging us constantly. I assumed it would be an easy task, and I couldn't have been farther from the truth.I went into the C:Program Files (x86)Norton Internet Security where the data for the program is found, and I couldn't delete the files. A dialogue saying "You need permission to perform this action You require permission from administrators to make changes to this folder".I thought it weird, since I am one of the computer's administrators. Next, I logged on to my dad's profile (at his insistence, though there shouldn't be any difference in the administrator powers of our profiles). The same result followed.Next, I looked online in a Google search and found this site, which told me to use the command prompt to first give me the ownership of the files, then give me complete permissions to the files, and then delete them. All three of these actions failed. The command prompt said "Access denied".

Cannot Delete Folder - Access Denied

May 7, 2011

I have just reinstalled my pc to a dual boot system which has 3 separate hdds. Window xp on one drive windows 7 ultimate on one drive and the other is a slave for backups. On the win7 install I ended up with a folder called "program files" and a folder called "program files (x86)". Since everything was being installed into the "x86" folder, Idecided to move the other one to see if it was needed. When I discovered it was needed and certain programs wouldn't work I put it back. However for some reason I didn't just put it back I copied and pasted it back. so now i have 3 "program files" folders! I now want to delete the duplicate but no matter what I do it won't go, access is denied! I have renamed it and moved it so it is now jus sitting on my win7 desktop, staring at me!

Methods I have tried are:
Reset all permissions/attributes
Boot into xp and delete from there.
Boot from a live xp disc.
Can't move folder onto another drive.
Run as administrator then get message saying "permission from trusted installer needed"
Tried the rd/s/q command in win7, xp and at boot up.
Safe mode.

And have tried various programs, killbox etc.

Cannot Delete Empty Folders In Windows 7 - Access Denied

Jun 27, 2011

I am trying to delete some useless empty folders, but I am having an administrator issue that I can't seem to get around. I know already that I'm probably having this administrative problem because these folders are located on a separate hard drive than the one with my old and current installation of Windows 7. From what I've read, this leads to administrative issues, preventing me from deleting the folders. Right now, windows cannot detect who the current administrator is, and so far, every time I have tried to edit or change the administrator to my current admin account, I get some errors reporting that my access is denied. I have managed to change the parent folder's admin, but the two subfolders I can't ever seem to change or modify.

Program Access Denied Even Though Running As Administrator

Oct 29, 2012

On my W7 machine (Dell X1) everything is working fine. I want to upgrade the BIOS so I downloaded the exe to do so. When I attempt to run it I get "Program Access Denied" no matter whether I run it normally or as administrator. Since my account is an administrator account it shouldn't matter. I've tried using the cmd window, but that doesn't do it either - always the same message. I've checked that the permissions on the file should allow it.

Use A Program To Stop Access Is Denied Stuff

Feb 17, 2011

I used System Restore, didn't like what it did, so I undid the restore. But now ANY program I try to run that isn't part of windows says "(program) can not run because LPK.dll is missing." Something along those lines. Now I've read up on lpk.dll so I tried replacing the file with a newly downloaded one. Guess what? Need permission even though I'm the highest in admin rights. So I tried safe mode with command prompt. Guess what? Access is denied. I CAN NOT replace lpk.dll. Secondly, as I said, NO programs work. So if I try to use a program to fix the problem automatically, it doesn't work because of lpk.dll. If I try to use a program to stop the access is denied stuff, it doesn't work. I need a way I can FORCE the system into replacing the file. Otherwise there's no way I will ever be able to use my computer again (besides reinstalling the OS).

Trying to install a program on win7 (64bit) and it says:

"The following error occured on the file "c:windowssysWOW64odbc32.dll"
Access is denied.

I have admin rights to this comp and I am running the install as an admin. The only thing I can think of is another program is using this .dll and making the install think its a read only. However I don't know how to find out what programs use what .dll's.

Can't Copy Old Windows Files Access Denied?

Jan 14, 2011

i installed windows 7 pro x64 recently. i'm in the process of copying my own old windows xp files, as well as copying the backed up windows xp files from my friend's installation that were in my old hard drive. i've been battling windows 7 with permissions left and right to copy the remaining files. i'm trying to delete my old windows installation folder. there's a file in sytem32 that's preventing me from deleting. i've established ownership, i've changed it so i have fullprivileges, i've changed it to enable sharing, disable sharing, i have UAC down to medium, still keep getting you need permissions and the try again message, and no matter how many times i click on try again it comes back up.

now this is also happening when trying to copy files from my friend's old installation to my portable hard drive. we're talking about movie files, folders, documents, etc. still keep getting permission requests and no matter how i go about it, it keeps asking again and again and the files never copy. i thought maybe if i renamed the documents and settings folder that i'm grabbing them from, but that made no difference.it is so difficult to enjoy this new windows when at every step there is some assinine feature like this!

Workaround For Files That Cannot Be Accessed ("Access Is Denied")

Mar 11, 2012

A few thousand of my pictures could not be accessed anymore after I had to re-install my whole computer after a crash. They all got the error message: "Access is Denied". Also copying and deleting is impossible. With the great free tool UNLOCKER I could still delete them. Then, searching for an explanation, I found forum posts trying to explain that the error message had to do with older Windows versions, different folder systems, links instead of real files. I didnt understand at all, but wanted to follow up the advice 'take ownership an change permissions'. So I went to the Reccle Bin and restored the unaccessible files. Surprise! After restoring their behavior was completely normal.

1. Install UNLOCKER

2. Rightclick on the unaccessible files (group selection possible) and select DELETE.

3. Go to the recycle bin, select the same files, right click and select RESTORE.

4. Files should be accessible now.

"Access Denied:" How To Overcome Denied Access To A Folder

Jun 2, 2011

I'd like to put a .cmd file in my c:Documents and SettingsAll UsersStart MenuProgramsStartup directory, but Documents and Settings has a lock on it and tells me "Access denied" when I click on it. Is this a job for "Take Ownership" or is there another way? The instructions for "Take Ownership" say not to use it on the C drive, but it's not clear if that applies to the whole drive, or individual files/folders on it.

Access Vista Shares From XP But Not From Windows 7 (access Denied)

Sep 20, 2011

I have one PC running Vista (home basic), one running XP (professional) and one running Windows 7 (home basic). There is a printer connected to the Vista box, which is shared.

On the XP box I can both see and use the printer on the Vista box (i.e. a "net view \vistabox" shows the printer, and under "printers and faxes" I can install and use it).

On the Windows 7 box, however, I can see the Vista box (i.e. a "net view" shows it in the list of available PCs on the network) but a "net view \vistabox" gives me an "access denied" error.

The Windows 7 machine has a password on it, the Vista and XP machines don't. All machines are on the same workgroup name (which is "WORKGROUP"). On the XP box I don't need a password to access the shared printer on the Vista machine; it just works.

Extensive Googling has failed to render enlightenment, nor has browsing this forum. I'm sure it has something to do with security and passwords, somewhere, somehow, but I have no idea in which direction to look for it, let alone fix it. I have also read some things about workgroups and homegroups not being the same in Windows 7, but I'm not sure if this is correct (and if so, relevant).

Access Is Denied - Cannot Access Shared Drives

Aug 31, 2009

I haven't really had any issues since I first installed Windows 7 and now I'm trying to access a shared drive over a network and I'm getting this annoying error message that I cannot access a shared drive over the network.

I decided to reinstall Windows 7 and before that I never had this issue.

I have not installed any third party software, I've enabled network discovery and right now I cannot access any shared folders or drives, at all, though it can see it.

I'm getting that stupid error message: "<Network drive> is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."

What am I doing wrong here?

"The Following Files Did Not Self-register Or UN-register - Access Is Denied"

The installation package has been build using InstallShield_7.01 on a Windows 7 machine. The software has been working fine on Windows XP without any issue for years now but on Windows 7 it is having problem with registration of the dll components. Is it an issue of some protected registry keys of windows 7 on which i might not have permission. If so how to access those registry. On manually registering the dll using the regsvr32, we are able to register the dll and the software works fine.I want to know how can i correct this error without manually using the regsvr32.
