BSOD Last Night - Windows Won't Boot Anymore
Jun 28, 2012
Last night I updated my GPU drivers(NVIDIA) and 5 mins later after I had rebooted from the Driver install, I get a Blue screen.
I tried to reboot but it gets stuck at Windows 7 Loading screen(Windows logo and black background), after about 10 mins of being stuck, I get a Blue screen flash on the screen and it reboots itself, repeating the process over and over again.
I try to boot in safe mode, it gets to the screen where it says "Loading Drivers". Then it goes to "Please Wait" and it stays there for about 10 minutes again until Blue screen flash and reboot on its own.
After that I got frustrated and decided to just stick the Win7 installation DVD into the machine and do a full reinstall. However, after it has gotten past the first screen where it "loads the files from disc"(literally the first screen you get when you try to install Win7), it turns black and won't respond anymore.(Serious "wait what?" happened in my mind at this point).
Next day at work I spoke to some IT guys about it, they suggested it was a hardware failure and then other guy suggested it has something to do with the RAM, whether not working or the RAM slots on my MoBo are broken. Also said that Dual channel might not be working either then. I got instructed to try each piece(I got 2 sticks of 4gb ram) of RAM seperately to see if I can get Windows to boot to see if it's faulty RAM.(I got the same suggestion from the place I ordered my PC parts from)
I am by no means expert, I know the basics of computers, but this is just mind boggling. I might have had faulty hardware all along(Browsers are very laggy and slow) and Windows loads really slowly. The computer is only 6 and half months old.

I have a decent PC (i7 2600, 16gb ram, SSD + 2HDDs, etc). I've been using it for about a year.Since it's a work machine, in the last few weeks, I've been using VMware on it to use other experimental software, with no problems.Today, I tried to create a new VM and the software asked me to update it to a new version. I did it, create new VM and rebooted to change a config in the Bios (about virtualization). But when I tried to boot again, surprise: BSOD.
STOP: 0x0000007b, (0xFFFFF880009a9928, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)
When I got back to the BIOS, I found the boot order to be different. I fixed it but no good. I disconnected the other HDDs and all I got was a different boot error message. I plugged the SSD in another machine and it worked fine?

I recently bought a new power supply, along with more ram because I was already ordering the power supply. When the package came and I set everything up in the computer, the PC turned on and everything was fine. I started to play a game with my friend and the computer just turned off. No error message, nothing. I believe the computer overheated, but I could be completely wrong. Now, when I start my computer up, it gets to the Launch System Repair (Recommended) or Start Windows Normally. If I select one of them, it will get into the 'Starting Windows' screen with the orbs, and then the monitor will just go blank. The computer still runs in the background, but my monitor just is blank. It is not the RAM (I switched and went to my old RAM) And I also cannot boot into safe mode, or anything of the sort, as the same thing happens. And I cannot boot from a CD (Tried with a windows 7 repair disc and computer goes blank again)

Okay so I installed Windows 7 after taking a break from the Beta. Unfortunately it didn't do what it usually does and let me boot "an older version" or anything like that. It just booted Windows 7. I read some stuff on this forum and ended up using bcdedit to try and fix it. These are the exact commands I entered:
bcdedit /create {ntldr} /d "Windows XP"
bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=C:
bcdedit /set {ntldr} path
tldr
bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} /addlast
Note: C: Is where XP is. O: is where Windows 7 is.
After doing that I got a dual boot screen at start-up. When I select Windows 7 I start windows 7. When I select Windows XP it just restarts the computer and shows me the screen again.
Any suggestions? I don't know how to get back into XP now. I guess I could disable the SATA than Windows 7 is on and it would be forced to start up XP (which is on an IDE) but I really want to get this dual boot business fixed.
I would just say screw it and abandon XP for now except I password protected my files and now I can't get to them unless I transfer ownership one by one. :S
EDIT: I fixed my problem, and in an unexpected way. After I posted I was frantically trying to decide what was different this time (as I had gotten this setup to work before). I then remembered that I had set my SATA drive as the primary boot drive in the bios in my effort to get Windows 7 to work when the boot sector was corrupt. I changed it back to my IDE drive (the way it originally was) and the dual booting worked again.
I never would have thought that would be the problem. It doesn't explain other users who had the exact same problem though. I doubt very many people decided to play with the controllers in the bios.

So I had some problems with AVG antivirus, when booting my pc got stuck on booting the avg processes, so I removed them, then it got stuck on some other processes (like fvevol.sys or so) so I removed them too. After removing all processes that got stuck when booting, I couldn't boot at all! Every time I booted it automatically came in the boot manager, saying it could't restore my pc.

I have now burned through 2 laptops last week.. both were Toshiba Satellites Model:C655-S5132. I was running iTunes, Google Chrome, Torrent, and Google Music Manager on both when they died. What happened was they both froze up when I was listening to music in iTunes and I held the power button down to shut them off.. now they won't boot. I am only really concerned in getting one of them to work for right now due to the fact that I don't have a computer other than these two.
The computer I am trying to fix will boot up past the Toshiba Screen and then will go to a black screen with a white flashing underscore in the top left corner and will not boot any further. I am able to use a windows 7 install disk to try and fresh install it, but I get an error message when it tries to move files. I was somehow able to access the explorer and view all my files through the install disk so my hard drive isn't crashed at least. I cannot boot in safe mode, I cannot boot to last good configuration, no system restore files work, I don't have a saved system image, and I cannot get into Toshiba recovery console.

I used to create USB boots using the Program Ultra ISO and boot and install windows with my USB flash. But this time it isn't possible. When I choose to boot from USB, a black page comes, giving the message : Start booting from usb device ... but it remains on this page and nothing further happens. I tried the same flash on another system and it booted completely. It shows that the USB is written correctly and it must be something wrong with my system.

I started having the issues of my desktop turning itself on in the middle of the night, and the infinite boot loop a few weeks ago. I have tried a few of the fixes online such as restoring, checking task scheduler, and running the startup fix on the Windows disc. The pc will also randomly shut down once it loads Windows (put itself through the proper 'Windows is shutting down', not the sudden shut down of a hardware failure). Tonight I also got the bizarre happening of a black screen shortly after startup, with a small in the task bar saying something like 'This Windows version is not genuine'. I am using 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Just wondering if anyone has any solutions to this other than a complete shutdown.
I place my computer in either stand by or hibernate and for some reason in the early ours of the morning it will turn itself on and sit on the login screen.
I think it must be some kind of back system operation which is sheduled but I have no idea what or where to find it.
Any ideas?

My friend recently (in the past month) bought a refurbished Dell computer from Wal-Mart. Everything seems to work fine. The problem she is having with it is that when she does 'shut-down' for the night it randomly restarts. No set amount of time just it restarts. They keep the PC in the bedroom so it wakes them up. We have added nothing which would cause this problem. I went to 'automatic restart after crash' and unchecked it as suggested and that did not work.

I have to do a hard reboot in order to get back to windows.. when I reboot it tells me something about windows live not fully loading or something to that effect(I usually just click ok and close screen so I cant remember) Or start me down the path by suggestions on where to start? I know this isnt the most detailed query but I dont really know what to say as this is frustrating and has been going on now for over a month.

I have had a very odd problem. I have searched all over these boards and used all the repair utilities, but nothing has worked.I will post all my computer specs at the bottom of the message. My Windows 7 64 bit computer will run great all day long, but if I leave it on over night, none of my programs will start. If I double click on them the little circle will start up for a second, then just quit. I still have full use of the mouse and can click on the task bar to shut down or restart the computer, but no programs will work.

Using Windows 7 x64. For some reason every night at 12am the computer wakes up for no apparent reason. I've checked the task scheduler quite extensively and can't find anything that is set to go at 12am exactly. I only have three items in my library and 2 of those are disabled. I looked pretty good in the microsoft section but couldn't find anything. How to locate this bugger?

I got my hard drive replaced a few weeks ago (dropped my laptop) and had an OEM version of Windows 7 installed. After getting home and re-installing all my drivers /programs, I used it like I normally do. Fast forward 2 weeks. I wake up and press the power button but the laptop is dead (this is odd because I usually put it in hibernate on a full charge before I go to bed). This continued to happen every day, my computer s dying overnight. Since last week I have been observing it overnight. Whether it be hibernate or sleep, my computer will turn itself on and become completely unresponsive (sounds like it's on but the screen is off. My test to see if it's frozen is to hit the 'num lock' key to see if it lights up). This event is a 100% occurrence. The only way to turn it off is to hold the power button for 5 seconds. Basically if I leave my laptop in sleep or hibernate, it will turn itself on at a random interval and immediately freeze. It will stay this way until it dies or I do a hard shut down. Also, if I leave it alone and go afk while working, it will go into sleep mode and freeze completely.

My Windows 7 64 bit machine will not boot. It keeps going into Windows System recovery mode. I have tried that multiple times and rebooted each time but no luck.System specs - Windows 7 64 bit, 16gb ram. Core i7-920 with 12 gb ram. This is an OEM disc that I bought from comp store, all parts and OS are less than three years old. C: drive - windows install a few apps, Drive 1 - games and music,
1) tried looking up this error with instructions. online instructions have had me go into the command prompt to perform edits on the c: windowsSystem32 folder. These do not come up in my prompt on my c: drive - where windows in installed. See program files etc, but no Windows32 folder.
2) already have run the c: chkdsk /r to try and fix the disc. It went through everything and comes back saying there are no problems. Still cannot boot to windows either get BSOD mentioned above or recovery mode.
3) Cannot go to previous restored state (one of the choices ) as it states that I have no restore points although I know that I have established at least 2 in the last 2-3 months
4) Tried inserting the Windows 7 disc and running repair from there but it just takes me to the same Windows system recovery mode which still does not work.
5) I tried hitting F8 during boot to go into safe mode but no good. it only takes me to a screen which gives me the option for boot order.
6) run the memory test from recovery console - no problems.
I have read the BSOD thread but everything there seems to assume that you can already boot into Windows at sometime and download the exe to run. (I cannot get into windows at all)Does anyone have any suggestions? I built this one myself (4th build) and have never in the 10 years of using Windows had a problem which I could not get into at least safe mode.I can go to maybe until this weekend but need to use my computer by Saturday cob.If I have had no luck at that point i will have to reinstall windows (it is on its own harddrive with most all of my applications on separate drives. So that may be a small blessing.I have had no strange occurrences while using the computer which is on pretty much 24/7.Is this what happens when a harddrive crashes? This one is about 2.5 years old and there have been no warning signs that something was amiss (no clicking etc)

So I'm not sure where to start. I can't get into windows to attach a log on here. I swapped out almost every piece of hardware. Sometimes the windows loading screen freezes and I need to shut it down myself and sometimes it doesn't but that's where I end up with the blue screens or it reboots itself right as it tries to load windows. I've been getting mainly 124 and x09c errors. It crashed in the middle of playing battlefield3. I was able to log onto windows maybe 3-4 times before it wouldn't even let me get close

I'm having problems with my brothers PC, a few months ago everything was fine, the we added 2 Gb RAM and suddenly it was frozen, ok restarted and once in a while he got that kind of problems, sudden freezes or reboots, then one day it won't boot showing a BSOD regarding win32k.sys and another with MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and finally evolved to BAD_CONFIG_SYSTEM_INFO. it just won't start, did the chkdsk as suggested by a live ubuntu CD and it was a 4 day chkdsk, at least after that I was able to see my files in ubuntu. Tried everything with the recovery options and none worked.
Well that's the background, I reisntalled Win7 in a new HDD and after a few days this time tested the system for a week with the original 2 RAM sticks, after that a one of the new stick was installed and everything went fine for another 2 week till it had boot problems, after trying to do things with the repair options again I was able to get in the disk so I could backup with Ubuntu, saved info but win still wont start, and then it appeared as if it wasn't formatted, so I installed XP in another disk and tried to open the disk, it wasnt formatted so I run chkdsk and the disk was fine again, restart and this time there was no Bootmgr (dont know what happened, I installed XP with the other disk unplugged) so I copied it from the installation disk and it loaded windows (with the vista animation... repaired with a line code from a win blog) and again everything was running again nicely.
A few days ago it happended again, this time while windows has loading (orbs) the tablet started blinking and nothing happended, reboot, safe mode, reboot and everything ok.
Today, it stopped right after the orbs animation, just right before the login, 1 minute and nothing happened, so reboot and asked for chkdsk, once it was complete, it tool about 30 min to load the desktop and it was unusable I let it load for an hour it loaded gadgets but still unusable tried to click something and it gave me a terminate process window, so again reboot and now every partition needed chkdsk, if cancelled the BAD_CONFIG_SYSTEM_INFO prompted, I wasn't able to even start from XP it displayed disk error at bios, then again tried with win 7 and this time the and let it finish chkdsk in the installation unit, it finally started but I cant access 3 of 4 partitions in the other disk, only the one with XP installed.
Right now I'm trying to recover the other partitions with the chkdsk in the cmd, but I don't have a clue of what is happening.
What I know is:
- The two RAM sticks installed right now are fine, worked fine before the new ones.
- The slow windows loading could be caused due some driver, in this case I've read quicktime uses the same path as the wacom tablet and add a semicolon everytime it updates but don't know exactly what that means. My brother installed quicktime through a download manager from softonic the day before the problem happened again (the repaired installation). Deactivated QT update and worked for a few days till now.
Right now I was able to recover 3 of 4 partitions, the one I couldn't recover was the one with the previous installation (before the new HDD), it says the MFT is damaged and chkdsk can't continue, how can I fix that?
I don't know what might cause the problem, might be the old HDD? Some driver? What can be the cause for those chkdsks? I tried a lot of things, right now even powering off the PSU with the back switch (after shutting down win of course) looks suspicious.
The PC specs are:
AMD Phenom II 965BE
MoBo Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H
2 1Gb Kingston RAM
Gigabyte ATI Radeon 5770
1 WD SATA 2 500 Gb (old installation broken MFT in one partition)
2 WD SATA 3 500 Gb (new one with current installation)
CM Silent Pro 600W PSU

Im tryin to get my 64GB Mtron SSD runnin with Windows 7 but I can't get it to show up in the installation process. It shows just fine in the BIOS, in device manager, in My Computer and in Windows Disk Management, in fact I can even use it as storage but for some reason It will not show up as a disk to install Windows. I have tried as IDE in BIOS and AHCI and in AHCI mode it will not show up in the BIOS at all or anywhere, I can only get it to show in IDE mode. It has been fully formatted and has had Windows 7 on it here recently (had to reformat due to some speed issues). Does anyone know a way I can get Windows put back on, preferably in AHCI mode cause Im stuck with a Thousand dollar drive thats good for storage only
My board is the Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L with BIOS F8 which according to their site is the latest one. Processor Q8600 and 4GB of OCZ Flex RAM...

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit computer which I will call the main PC. An HP LaserJer is directly connected to it, and shows up as the default printer. About a month ago, it stopped responding to print jobs. They show up in the "jobs pending" list, but do not print. If I try to print to that printer from another PC on the network, the document shows up in the pending list, but then says "Error" and will not print either. If I connect the printer to a different PC, it will print. If I try to print to the printer connected to another PC from the main PC, it will not print. The print spooler is running. There are only restore points from the past week or so, and this started happening over a month ago

I've only had my new computer with Windows 7 for just over a week and it won't work anymore. It goes into Startup Repair and says it can't repair this computer automatically. I press "Finish" and then it just restarts again showing the logo of the motherboard on screen and then goes back into Startup Repair again.
I called the shop where I bought it and they said it is possible I was loading too much software on too quickly. It is a computer I use for business so I wasn't loading any rubbish on and I didn't install that much - Office suite, antivirus, modem software, printer driver.

I'm in trouble with my monitor. I have one AOC 511Vwb LCD 15,6" Widescreen. The specs in portuguese:[URL] I've been using it... i don't know... for like 5 months, and it presented a couple of times an issue of not being recognized by my OS.
When it is recognized, i can set his native resolution to 1280x800 60Hz, but now the max resolution that i can get is 1280 x 720 and this resolution is very very weird on my screen.
So i tried to use it on two diferent notebooks, one using Windows 7 and one using Windows Vista and he worked perfectly only on the notebook with Vista.
And guess what, the monitor is "Vista Ready".
This problem happened before and solved by itself, and now passed 2 weeks and nothing to come back the way it should be. And since i've tried basicly everything i'm now "closed mind" and looking for new viewpoints.
