BSOD With No Minidump Files

Jun 14, 2012

I've tried to do my research on this and I've done a LOT of troubleshooting so far. For the past 6 months, I have been getting BSOD about 3 times a week at complete random times. It mostly occurs overnight when I'm asleep. I have tried deactivating all hibernate and sleep functions with no luck. I have tried three different anti-virus softwares and am now using Microsoft Security essentials. I have tried various settings for creating a minidump file with NO luck but I think I might know why. My BSOD is a Kernel data inpage error, stop code 0x0000007A, The sys file is lists 80% of the time is volgrx.sys but I've also seen an NTFS.sys listed.

[BSOD] BSOD Minidump Shows Memory Corruption?

Feb 29, 2012

I am the developer of a driver for a network adapter device that does scatter-gather DMA. Driver is not newly developed, but has had some recent changes. My client has a puzzling BSOD on one x64 machine after about 18 hours of successful operation. My x64 Win 7 machine runs fine forever. Client's box crashes in seemingly random places that indicate mem corruption.Mem test on machine was clean. Minidump is attached. WinDbg stack doesn't trace back to my code - it just shows the calls to handle the exception. Any clues y'all can see?System info from WinDbg:Windows 7 Kernel Version 7601 (Service Pack 1) MP (4 procs) Free x64Product:WinNt, suite: TerminalServer SingleUserTSBuilt by: 7601.17640.amd64fre.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506One difference between client's x64 and mine: Theirs has a valid DMA MapRegisterBase pointer from a AllocateAdapterChannel call, where mine (and my x86 systems) always have a null DMA MapRegisterBase

BSOD Randomly But No Minidump

Jun 21, 2011

I have recently built a new PC (about a month ago), but I'm continuing to get BSOD randomly. I did have two HDD in my PC and the BSOD were more frequent, but since reducing to one HDD over a week ago, I have just received another BSOD. My biggest problem is that, every time my PC BSOD, it doesn't leave a Minidump for me to analyse. It appears that most of the time the BSOD is displaying KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and either volmgrx.sys or nfts.sys.

PC as follows -
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3
Intel i5 2500K
G. Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
Gainward GeForce GTX 580 3GB Phantom
Pioneer BDR-206 Blu-Ray Disc Writer
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB HD103SJ (not currently connected as above)

Cannot Access Minidump Files

Apr 28, 2011

trying to get some help solving an issue my PC is having. I am getting constant blue screens and need to diagnose the problem, but I cannot access my minidump files. I have tried moving them to other folders and also tried using the "take ownership" command. Yet still I cannot get the files to open. I can't open them in wordpad/notepad or even the WINdebugger. I was hoping someone might know how to access the files.

Repeated BSOD Resulting In Minidump

Jan 9, 2012

Suffers from a repeating BSOD. Unfortunately I reinstalled Windows (win7 x86 sp1) before thinking to package up the minidumps. However, when installing Office the computer conveniently bsod'd, hence the uploaded minidump.I'd be grateful if someone would take a look at it for me - let me know if you need more information regarding the system. All I know is that it's a brand new install, and isn't likely to be due to graphics hardware, as both the current gfx card (AMD hd5450) and the old (an older AMD/ATI graphics card) both suffered from BSODs. Additionally, I've run a pass of Memtest and of Prime95, without any errors reported

Random Reboots / No BSOD / No Minidump Found

Jan 17, 2010

I've spend the last week scouring Windows 7 Forums finding dozens of people with this issue. At random times, during use or idle, the computer goes blank and reboots.Starting from a clean install of an OEM copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a formatted HDD

1. Updated all drivers for my devices for Windows 7
2. Loaded and installed all current Windows Updates
3. Flashed and updated the BIOS
4. Ran the driver Verifier, did not see any errors reported
5. Tried to run sfc /scannow, system reboots when the scan gets to about 60% (tried twice)
6. All non-necessary devices (printer, external HDD, etc.) are disconnected.

I would attach a minidump file but there isn't one. I've got the system set to record one but it's not there. I have the view set to display all hidden files/folders. I've done searches for *.dmp files and typed in the address I've got set in the options ... no dice.I never get the BSOD, I have it set to not automatically reboot. It still goes blip and restarts anyway. There's no real pattern to the restarts but it loves to do it in the midst of installations.I've held off running a memory test simply because all my fellow sufferers keep reporting no errors in the memory and any time I do anything time consuming it fails when the system goes blip again. System Info via Advisor attached.

[BSOD] BSOD Recently Started All Required Files Attached?

Dec 5, 2011

I am writing this right now because after the last BSOD it said "Windows can not start" and I had to restore to when it was previously working. So up until that point this is what I did.Since working with computers almost my entire life I know most BSOD are due to either bad memory, drivers, or bios. I started there and updated my nvidea drivers but it happened again. I moved to the motherboard bios.I did find a newer one on there and using ASUS tool I flashed the BIOS. Same thing still happened. Next I ran memtestx86 for 8 hours and it returned no errors. At this point I just decided to look for newest drivers for everything. One thing that happened consistently was that my wireless USB adapter from Cisco had to be unplugged and plugged back in for it to work. I went there first, reinstalled the drivers but still the same thing. I thought maybe it was my hard drive. I downloaded Seagates Utility tool and ran all the tests and they all passed fine. I ran defrag just for good measure along with windows version of the mem test and that passed as well. I still continued to get the BSOD and I have to tell you I'm irritated and also stumped.

Next I moved onto software. I have been using AVG free for years but I know virus programs do some crazy stuff and I got rid of that. Turned on windows defender. I decided that since the wireless adapter didn't work after these crashes maybe lets just go to a direct wired connection. I disconnected the cisco wireless adapter and I'm just using a direct connect right to my router. These come at random times.. nothing I do can trigger it. It can stay on for days and not crash and then there are times it can be up for 10 min and crash. Some of you might notice that in the CPU-Z screenshots I had to take the screenshot with the error underneath. Every time I chose either of the two slots it crashed the program.I have not done anything internally besides add some neon to my computer which does not connect to the board at all.I have seen IRQL blue screen once so I even went as far to go into the power settings for windows and make sure the usb and everything never went into any kind of "standby" mode.

I believe this is still under warranty and I would like to go in with good information if I need to challenge and get new hardware if that's what it is.On a side note I have not touched the memory physically. I know some suggestions were to reseed the memory and chip but In my opinion something that has been working for months that never moves off my desk and is never basically touched besides the power button shouldn't mean something just came loose after 4 months of owning it.Again that's just my opinion. I have removed AVG, Ad-Aware, Some webcam motion detector software (which was a joke) and the only thing that was really installed was Skyrim.

No Dump Files Being Created During BSOD

Jan 20, 2013

So Ive now been getting random BSODs on my desktop for a month now, and was troubleshooting the problem all this time. Finally, to out rule any corrupt/conflicting drivers I freshly reinstalled windows (which didnt help though).

Since this reinstall, however, no more dump files are created during the BSODs. It just shows:

*** STOP: 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000000, 0xFFFFFA8004F69028, ox00000000BE200000, 0x000000000005110A)

Collecting data for crash dump ... Initializing disk for crash dump ...

And it stays at this, no usual data dumping, even after letting the screen sit for about an hour. It recorded the dump files normally before the re-installation.

I already checked system properties, under the advanced tab, to ensure that the dump file creation was enabled. It is.

Also, does anyone know what could cause this bsod? From the dumpfiles before the reinstallation, i know that Hal.dll is the driver causing the problems. Could it be my OC? ( I doubt it as returning the CPU to factory settings resulted in the same BSODs)

Win 7 BSOD When Playing Video Files

Apr 25, 2009

In the beginning, I had no problems with Win 7 build 7000. I could play whatever video file I wanted and it would work perfectly. Since checking out the various builds after 7000, right up to the latest RC build 7100, I have nothing but problems when playing video files. No matter which player I use, be it WMP, KMPlayer, VLC or Media Player Classic, I get a BSOD after trying to open a video file, including DVD.

(Actually, that is not strictly true as I can open *.mpg files for some strange reason.) I have tried changing my video card for an older ASUS ATI card but got the same result - BSOD. So, my question to you folks is: Can anyone give me a clue as to what might be wrong?

BSOD With No Dump Files Being Generated, Happens In Firefox And BF3

Jul 8, 2012

These BSODs dont let Windows finish to create a dump file...as you can see in the pictures, it always hangs in the "Initializing disk for crash dump..." and then reboots. Only one time it finished, and it was something related to Ready Boost (which was never used or allowed to be used in the system, so I am considering this as not related to the problem...I already looked for BSODs related to Ready Boost, and it came in no help). So, since the Windows dont make a dump file, I am afraid the dump files collected from your "tool" are not related to this problem. I also believe that the Bluethoot devices listed as problematic in the diagnostic tools are not related to the problem also, since I almost never use any bluethoot device with my PC.After the system reboots from the BSODs it looks like the BIOS is weird, it usually says that "no operational system was detected", so I have to turn off the PC and then wait some time and turn it on again, and usually this makes the BIOS "see" the Windows again (sometimes I have to unplug the power cable and wait until all the LEDs are off). Just a couple of times the messages were different, like "The CPU could not be overclocked" opening another BIOS screen from American Megatrends.

These BSODs usually started just after I opened Firefox...my Firefox is with a little problem at the first start up...it starts to consume 25% of my CPU and hangs...I have to kill the firefox process and then open it back again to use it (the second time it loads fine)...if I didnt I would have gotten an BSOD in just a few seconds. This happened in a few other programs too, but randomly, first the process hangs, then the entire system and then the BSOD cames. Almost all the BSODs had no usefull data on them as you can see in the pictures. But since Firefox is a memory hog and some times I got KERNEL_IN_PAGE_ERROR and KERNEL_IN_MEMORY_ERROR (I dont have that picture I think), I started to believe that the problem may be in the RAM timings, or some other RAM related problem...Now with these new Ram timings I let firefox consume 25% of my CPU, at the first start of firefox, for minutes, and the system doesn't crash anymore. Also the only 2 times Firefox had set an BSOD it came with a message from Windows before, saying that "Instruction 0x123456 (i dont know the number :P) could not be read" and then it crashed explorer.exe and then the computer crashed. As I said, it's more stable, but still not "stable".

Random BSOD's When Surfing And Managing Files?

Jul 11, 2012

I have attached the collected dump files and perfmon report. Also included is a pic of the specific BSOD, and a screen dump of his system specs.- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? X64- the original installed OS on the system? yes it is- an OEM or full retail version? OEM- What is the age of system (hardware)? Less than 12 months- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) PreinstalledThere seemed to be some indication of ATI involvement in the crashes, so I have tried updating the ATI drivers, but the problem continues - perhaps once a week the system will freeze, mouse pointer can still be moved but nothing can be clicked onEventually it restarts with the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD.
