Windows 7 Not Starting - Read Minidump With Bootable CD?
May 7, 2012
Cant boot a Windows 7 64 bit. I am trying to know if it is a driver or sys file involved. Is there an .iso available that will boot into linux or something and can open a minidump file? I see there is a 200MB downloadable MS file............ rather involved......

I'm experiencing random overnight crashes, always similar to below minidump (below) results (iastor.sys is implicated) but cant figure out what brought it to this point. System is up to date, iastor.sys hasn't changed since 2/1/2012. Ran Malwarebytes and Norton360 scan. System is clean otherwise.

trying to get some help solving an issue my PC is having. I am getting constant blue screens and need to diagnose the problem, but I cannot access my minidump files. I have tried moving them to other folders and also tried using the "take ownership" command. Yet still I cannot get the files to open. I can't open them in wordpad/notepad or even the WINdebugger. I was hoping someone might know how to access the files.

I have recently built a new PC (about a month ago), but I'm continuing to get BSOD randomly. I did have two HDD in my PC and the BSOD were more frequent, but since reducing to one HDD over a week ago, I have just received another BSOD. My biggest problem is that, every time my PC BSOD, it doesn't leave a Minidump for me to analyse. It appears that most of the time the BSOD is displaying KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR and either volmgrx.sys or nfts.sys.
PC as follows -
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3
Intel i5 2500K
G. Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL
Gainward GeForce GTX 580 3GB Phantom
Pioneer BDR-206 Blu-Ray Disc Writer
OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB HD103SJ (not currently connected as above)
Windows 7 PRO 64bit

I've tried to do my research on this and I've done a LOT of troubleshooting so far. For the past 6 months, I have been getting BSOD about 3 times a week at complete random times. It mostly occurs overnight when I'm asleep. I have tried deactivating all hibernate and sleep functions with no luck. I have tried three different anti-virus softwares and am now using Microsoft Security essentials. I have tried various settings for creating a minidump file with NO luck but I think I might know why. My BSOD is a Kernel data inpage error, stop code 0x0000007A, The sys file is lists 80% of the time is volgrx.sys but I've also seen an NTFS.sys listed.

I have been encountering BSOD's for the last few months. I try to use the SF Diagnostic Tool but the tool says "No Dump Found." I looked at the "windows" folder, there were none. How can I configure the system to create minidump files after BSOD?

Suffers from a repeating BSOD. Unfortunately I reinstalled Windows (win7 x86 sp1) before thinking to package up the minidumps. However, when installing Office the computer conveniently bsod'd, hence the uploaded minidump.I'd be grateful if someone would take a look at it for me - let me know if you need more information regarding the system. All I know is that it's a brand new install, and isn't likely to be due to graphics hardware, as both the current gfx card (AMD hd5450) and the old (an older AMD/ATI graphics card) both suffered from BSODs. Additionally, I've run a pass of Memtest and of Prime95, without any errors reported

I used BlueScreenView to check what was the cause of the multiple BSOD's i was always getting and it turns out it is ntoskrnl.exe. However, i cannot zip the minidump .dmp file to upload and I cannot view the file's contents at all either.

I've spend the last week scouring Windows 7 Forums finding dozens of people with this issue. At random times, during use or idle, the computer goes blank and reboots.Starting from a clean install of an OEM copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a formatted HDD
1. Updated all drivers for my devices for Windows 7
2. Loaded and installed all current Windows Updates
3. Flashed and updated the BIOS
4. Ran the driver Verifier, did not see any errors reported
5. Tried to run sfc /scannow, system reboots when the scan gets to about 60% (tried twice)
6. All non-necessary devices (printer, external HDD, etc.) are disconnected.
I would attach a minidump file but there isn't one. I've got the system set to record one but it's not there. I have the view set to display all hidden files/folders. I've done searches for *.dmp files and typed in the address I've got set in the options ... no dice.I never get the BSOD, I have it set to not automatically reboot. It still goes blip and restarts anyway. There's no real pattern to the restarts but it loves to do it in the midst of installations.I've held off running a memory test simply because all my fellow sufferers keep reporting no errors in the memory and any time I do anything time consuming it fails when the system goes blip again. System Info via Advisor attached.

Assume I work currently with MS Word and/or an text editor like wordpad. Then (suddenly) the system crashes with bluescreen.A Minidump is automatically created and saved in a Minidump file. After restart I am asked whether I want to send this minidump for further investigation to MS.Hmm, I wonder whether this Minidump file contains the full memory content. And if the memory content contains the current MS Word resp. current open file if editor. Both could contain sensitive business information which I don't want to pass outside. Is this the case

This is a windows 7 x64 AMD CPU, Radeon HD5770, eyefinity triple monitor setup. About two years old system.
AMong 2 monitors, I have 2x Acer X193w connected via DVI, another one is a X2gen connected via display port.
The X2gen monitor usually won't turn on when I wake the computer up, it make the "tip tip tip" clicks for minutes before eventually turned on.
It was fine until about 2 weeks ago, crashed 6 times so far.

What's the best type of DVD to use for read-only and read/write applications? I'm a little out-of-date on this, haven't bought any in awhile. I remember things like DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW and such. I have a new machine running Win7, and an older laptop running XP.

I am the developer of a driver for a network adapter device that does scatter-gather DMA. Driver is not newly developed, but has had some recent changes. My client has a puzzling BSOD on one x64 machine after about 18 hours of successful operation. My x64 Win 7 machine runs fine forever. Client's box crashes in seemingly random places that indicate mem corruption.Mem test on machine was clean. Minidump is attached. WinDbg stack doesn't trace back to my code - it just shows the calls to handle the exception. Any clues y'all can see?System info from WinDbg:Windows 7 Kernel Version 7601 (Service Pack 1) MP (4 procs) Free x64Product:WinNt, suite: TerminalServer SingleUserTSBuilt by: 7601.17640.amd64fre.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506One difference between client's x64 and mine: Theirs has a valid DMA MapRegisterBase pointer from a AllocateAdapterChannel call, where mine (and my x86 systems) always have a null DMA MapRegisterBase

Just purchased my first Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) PC (Hewlett Packard). No media was supplied with the machine and I have been advised that media is not shipped anymore (apparantley it is Microsoft's way of ensuring media cannot be loaded onto several systems).
Reading comments on the internet it seems clear that I have to make an ISO file, but I'm unsure what directory/files I need to pick and copy.

The tutorial for creating the bootable XP disc worked great and I would like to have a backup with SP1 on it for my Win7 Home Premium x64 (retail version). I didn't see anything in the Win 7 tutorials, maybe it can't be done with 7, but if it can I would do it so I have the cd with SP1 on it already.

Basically I am taking over the imaging process where I work. I will to start configuring our application to create universal images.
The first thing I would like to know is, I created a bootable (tested and used) Windows 7 64bit Enterprise USB flash drive. I would like to make this universal so when a new machine comes in I can either add new drivers if need and install from the USB.
Currently I have to install the drivers after the installation of windows has completed. Which folder in can I add the drivers into? I am thinking of creating sub folders for each model and another subfolder for the type of driver ie. video, nic etc I also created an autounattended.xml file and it always halts at the create partition wizard. If I manually install windows, windows 7 will create a second partition that is 100mb. I read in forums where most people only create 1 partition. Does it matter how many my autounattened file will create?

After installing windows 7, I have had a heck of a time trying to figure out what is wrong or if I got a bad ISO or what. Whenever I restart without a bootable cd or dvd in the drive, it gives me "invalid system disk, replace the disk, and then press any key" Now i pop in the windows 7 disk, control alt delete, and when it restarts it loads windows up just fine. Tried switching the primary boot as the hard disk and not the dvd player and still get this error. Had my mobo drivers disk in and its bootable and it booted windows 7 right up. Is something messed with the boot manager or is it just a bad ISO?

I'm new on this forum and happy to join to your community. Now days i hardly try to solve my laptop problem with re-installing it's windows. it has a Home premium 64bit windows with a sticky serial number. My laptop Model is: Dell xps l501 A with two usb 3 socket. the reason that i want to install the windows from a usb is my DVD rom has problems and can't reading any DVD disk, So I created a bootable usb 3 windows installer with the official program and boot windows installer from it. after a fast loading the language and location windows appeared and i hit the next and after that hit the install button. after a fast loading this error page appeared: "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now seems like the installer don't detect my flash drive , because in browse windows i can see only my pc drives and dvd rom drive.
