its been a long time since i last posted about my bsod and after i fixed them i began to get more of these. the only way i can replicate the problem is when i move or copy+paste files in the computer, mostly if it is from my computer to a external hardrive or usb... i attached the latest minidump file i got 021412-15958-01.zip

For some reason, the transfer rate on my 2TB Western Digital internal hard drive has dropped through the floor. I'm not sure what has happened but when when I try to copy files on HD I'm only getting a maximum transfer speed of 4MB/second, which is abysmal. For example, as I write I'm doing a test copy of a folder (to another folder on the same drive) containing 90 gig of misc. files. Windows is reporting that this transfer will take around one day to complete!
I error checked the drive and it came up healthy, and in all other areas, it seems to be working fine. All these problems seem to have started since I decided to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Window, a job which I've done on this particular setup at least a couple of dozen times before with no problems at all. I must say though that installing Windows was SLOOOW this time though, a lot slower than normal, and I'd say it took about 3 times as long to do as normal.

First detected this problem while I was transferring some data through LAN. This problem occurs even when I am copying data from my C drive to D drive. I was able to copy a 700MB file onto the drive.

Just bought a new cyberpowerpc from Fry's, installed a 3rd hard drive (Western Digital 3TB). Everything seems okay except when I try to copy any large files/folders to the new drive. I'm using a folder that is 11.3GB with 686 files. I can copy it from drive 1 to drive 2 no problem. When I copy it from drive 1 or drive 2 to the third drive (the 3TB one), it will start copying then sometime soon after, explorer will close itself down and the computer will end up rebooting itself. Sometimes there will be a BSOD and sometimes it will just reboot without the BSOD.
I have tried to attach the dmp files etc...using the recommendations of the forum. I'd like to use this new drive for backups (it's the reason I got a new pc, my old one crashed and I didn't have a good backup system).
Having a weird problem with a LaCie 1TB Network space. It is plugged into my router and i can see it on my windows 7 computer, map its folder as a network drive and even create folders/new word documents on it.
However whenever i try and copy a file larger than a few kB my entire computer freezes (completely unresponsive). The computer recovers fine on a hard reboot.
Any Ideas?
Also my computer freezes after being left on for a while (this may be due to utorrent, saw some mention of it causing windows to crash after an hour).
I've just recently realized that copying folders to a backup hard drive resets their "created" date. Should my computer ever crash, all my backup files will state to have just been created on that certain date. Me, being the organize-freak I am, have been looking for a solution so my backed up files can have the same time stamps as on my computer right now. I've done a little searching, and have found that people always recommend Robocopy. Problem is, I can't understand a word of the tutorials. How to run Robocopy to carry out what I want? And also just for the heck of it, is Robocopy the only solution? Is there some sort of back up program on Windows 7 that can do that?

I have a couple and alternate them each time I do a backup, so if the one disk fails, I always have at least the penultimate backup. When I build a new system, I just copy and paste again. Now here is my problem, when I set up a new system all my dates, except for "photo date taken" all reset to the current date. I have tried all the date options from the View menu but none show the date created. How can I preserve my dates? And is there a way to prevent this from happening again? System Window 7 64BIT Pro.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just spent like 18 hours copying 600K files, 1.33 TB, from a USB 2.0 ext. drive to a 1.36 TB USB 3.0 partition, but at the very end I got a handful of prompts to replace folders that already existed in the newly created folder, asked me to merge the original folder with the one just copied on the destination drive, eventually asking for permission to replace thousands of items and that's what it's doing now. I don't know what's going on. It appears that all files are there in both folders on each drive (with the exception of half a dozen that wouldn't copy due to long filenames).
Nearest I can guess is it is writing DOS names in addition to Windows names so the computer is going to spend more than a dozen more hours doing that. View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried doing this. Example, game files/data from my XPdocs on C: to my Windows 7 docs on D: couldnt do it, just gave me a chime, no dialogue box or anything. Also tried to move a file from my desktop to either mydocs or to program files folder, same thing. After that, even took ownership of all affected folders/files, ones being moved and destination folder. Still the same.
Question: is there some type of security setting i am missing? anyone else test this? I have moved files to mydocs before, and now i cant move anything to there, has me confused now. Nothing special about a file or folder i am trying to move, permissions ect.
Tried both cut and paste, and copy, same problem either way. No protected files/folders involved

I know I can clone the drives onto two separate partitions of my new drive, and then do a partition merge and resize to fill up all the free space. She had an external drive with lots of files on it she wanted to access. I took the drive, plugged it into a Windows 7 machine (HP quad), and all of the files appeared, no problem. But, then I plugged the seagate drive into her new Toshiba laptop (also Win 7), and only some of the files appeared. Missing were all photo files, and many other types. I could not figure out why some were missing and some showing. I took the drive to a third computer with Win 7, an MSI all-in-one, and behold: files were missing. Now it seemed almost arbitrary. Could it be a matter of some Windows updates not yet installed? Why would the exact same drive work differently on three different computers in regard which files were seen and accessible? None were "hidden" files.

my motherboard is ausus p7p55d and has one ide socket on the board.
I was using this socket for my cd and dvd drives but I have detached them so I can plug in my old IDE hard drive.
I was using the IDE drive just 2 days ago in my old system.
Sometimes when I boot up the drive is seen and sometimes not.
when the drive is seen I try and copy some files over to my new sata drive I have in the new system. some of the files copy over but the the IDE drive always gets stuck. when I try to cancel the copy windows stops responding partially and I cant get out of the copy window and the old IDE hard drive explorer window.
So I restart windows and normally it now doesn't see the IDE drive.
What is going wrong?
How do I get my files off this hard drive?
why when i try to burn my music files to a cd it tells me the file is not located on my hard drive or anywhere else
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can see a generic storage device listed under the universal serial bus controllers in the device manager and am able to see the 'safely remove hardware' icon in my tray. Unfortunately, the only thing that I see in disk management is an 'unknown' disk. The hard drive is listed by manufacturer in the device manager; however, I am not able to open it from this site. And, when I look at the items 'attached' to my computer, the drive is not visible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had this laptop for a few months now and I got another hard drive called Data which is empty, my other hard drive called OS is where everything goes and I wondered if I can move games and other files to my Data hard drive without corrupting them. And if possible can I move a file called Program Files to my Data hard drive without causing any problems. My pc takes a long time to restart which I guess my OS decides. My OS got is 80gb of 238GB and my Data is 332gb big, with no files in it.

I originaly thought everything was gone but all of the virus protection loaded and seems to run fine, and I can run the programs that appear in the notifactation toolbar. When looking at C: it is empty, no folders, nothing! In the add/remove programs it shows everything is still installed. So i am making the assumption that all of the files and programs are still on the hard drive and intact. So at this point i am trying to figure out if this is a hard drive issue or most likely a windows problem.

However, I have always been able to do this when I attempted it previously, so I am not sure what made this time different, but after i clicked on internet explorer, everything i had open got immediately closed, my screen flashed black, and when it was back at my desktop, all my icons were gone aside from Recycling bin, Microsoft Word, and Powerpoint, and like 50 little message windows opened one after the other saying that files may have been lost because of damage done to the C drive.
