BDOD After Windows 7 Reinstall - Potential Virus Or Hardware Malfunction
Aug 22, 2012
My specs are as following-
4 gigs of ram (kingston) ddr2
dual core amd phenom 2
ati radeon hd 5770
windows 7 home premium 64x bit.
I have been running games like battlefield 3 and such for a while now with no problems, then one day I had to re install my operating system due to a break brought up by an sfc scan in the command prompt, Lately my computer will blue screen, pause with a stuttering sound, files will work incorrectly, and my computers performance has slowed at such a rate that almost anything is becoming impossible.
I ran a few scans but they all crash in the middle and it has been happening since I had reinstalled the os. I only run programs like cyberlink powerdirector 10, fraps and xsplit, and skype for my gaming and recording. So my question is this, how to get rid of these signs of a virus and the virus itself if there is one?

For sometime now I've been attempting to fix a laptop that I have that was used by my sister. The laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ61 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I believe the computer has a virus but cannot actually find out for sure if it does or not. I have ran many virus scans with multiple virus protections and still I'm getting blue screens of death, major jamming, as well as occasional start up fails. The computer jams up so badly that I can't use it for even simple tasks. If I try to up the start menu or any folders the computer jams up for about a minute before it responds. If I try to get on the web nothing at all will load no matter what web browser I'm using. The computer will also freeze up completely at random times and the only way to get it to respond is to restart it.

My Windows 7 account has started freezing not long after startup. It works in safe mode. My virus checker has failed so I can not do a virus check. In safe mode I can not re-install a virus checker. I have run the Ashampoo register checker and corrected all the faults. bar reinstalling the operating system which was an upgrade from Vista I am not sure what to do.

My Acer 7736Z-4809 laptop (pre-installed with Win7 Home Premium 64bit, so I don't have the Win7 CD) was recently hit with a virus. I constantly got the BSOD "iaStor.sys" and a black screen. Startup Repair at first couldn't complete repair, but when I tried again, it found no errors. Tried System Restore to no avail. Was able to do a System Image Recovery using a backup on an external HD, but none of the programs worked (wanted to use Ad-Aware and Spybot to eliminate the virus). When I clicked on programs on the desktop or Start menu, nothing happened, didn't even get an "Open with." Even in Safe Mode, none of the programs worked.
I checked the Task Mgr, and explorer.exe was still there, but RAID wasn't. Went to Control Panel Programs to uninstall/repair programs, but got message that programs seemed to be already uninstalled...it was like the programs weren't even recognized. Once in awhile when I clicked on IE8 in Windows Explorer (not via desktop shortcut or Start menu), IE8 actually opened, so I downloaded Hijack This and Avast anti-virus, but when I tried to install them, I got the msg: "Installation must be on a local hard drive." Continued to get the "iaStor.sys" BSOD. I read to run Verifier and disable it, so I tried that (not sure if that made things worse).
Tried to do another System Image Recovery, but this time it couldn't recognize the backup on the ext HD. Tried Startup Repair, and it couldn't complete repair. Went to Recovery Management to reset the OS, but my User ID(?) couldn't be found. Decided to do a Factory Install - during "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" I got the error msg: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click 'OK' to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." Every time I try to restart it, I get the same error msg.
BIOS Setup Defaults:
Quiet Boot: [Enabled]
Network Boot: [Enabled]
F12 Boot Menu: [Disabled]
D2D Recovery: [Enabled]
SATA Mode: [AHCI]

First off my Specs:
-Windows 7 x64
-Asus P5k
-Intel E8500, not OC'ed
-4850 crossfire
-3 x 2GB DDR2 800 (2 chips are transend and, other is dynet running in dual channel asymmetric mode)
-550 watt Coolermaster PSU
-Coolermaster storm scout case, so loads of Fans.
-250GB seagate primary and 2 terrabyte seagate secondary.
First off, let me explain the whole situation. A few months ago my Graphics card blew and I sent it in for replacement (was a Asus 4850 512mb). The card was in crossfire with my other 4850, the force3d version and while the asus one was in I was using it as the primary card. So a few days ago (yes i know - sent it in a few MONTHS ago and only got it back now. I was procrastinating, we all do it) I got the card back and I put it back in my machine and installed the latest 11.12 drivers.
This is where the problem started. All of a sudden while playing Sc2 I got graphical corruption followed by a BSOD. My immediate thought was it must be the new drivers and so I went back to 11.11 drivers. But as you can assume the problem still persisted. Next I ran all kinds of stress tests:
- Prime95 for an hour
- Memtest for 3 hours
- multiple runs of 3DMark Vantage which all ended fine and without a BSOD But yet as soon as I launch WC3 frozen throne to play a game of DOTA, sh** starts happening. 15min into a game I get the same graphical corruption I get in SC2, but in WC3 it sometimes goes away almost as if the driver restarts, but eventually ends up in a BSOD.
Next thing I did was put the force 3d card as my primary and ran it without the asus card because I assumed it was the card that was causing problem yet again. But still the same graphical corruption and BSOD. The strange thing is that this only happens in blizzard games and not when I'm playing CoD mw3 or any other games for that matter. I've played for hours on end in mw3 and no problems. I even got the files for WoW from a friend and tested to see if I was right and I was as a BSOD soon occurred. After scourging the internet I found that a lot of people have had relativity the same errors with overheating components, but I'm pretty sure my temps are normal but, just in case, I will post them anyways
MB - 38 Idle, 40 - 43 Load
Processor - 39 Idle, 50 - 55 Load
Graphics (Asus card) - 38 Idle, 51 Load
Graphics (Force3D card) 41 Idle, 52 - 55 Load
To shorten the story a hell of a lot I ended up formating (after running driver sweeper multiple times in safe mode and re-installing the AMD drivers multiple times), but still the same?I am convinced it is a driver problem, as ATI drivers are notorious for causing trouble and the fact that on WC3 sometimes the BSOD's are somehow avoided by what I think is Windows pulling the driver back from the depths of hell Another reason is if I ctrl + alt + del when the corruption starts happening and return to desktop windows pops up and says "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered".

I recently used DBAN to nuke my girlfriends laptop (a Sony Vaio) after it was rendered near-useless by a virus. I reinstalled Windows 7 and all was well until it came to updating. There was 100+ security updates etc and they were all downloaded and installed automatically. After this the laptop's performance became increasingly worse until a couple of days later it died on us again. I re-nuked it and reinstalled Windows 7. I haven't downloaded any updates and it's working fine now, so my somewhat inevitable question is this: is it possible that one of these updates causing the laptop to freak out? If so, how do I identify it?

I received an update to windows 7 on my hp PC. One of the updates was for nvidia software, however I noticed that after this update that when watching video on full screen that the image was much brighter more contrasty and sharper, so I fouterd (fiddled)about with the various nvidia menus to no avail. I eventually decided stuff this I'll just do a system restore and that should sort it. The only good bit was that my full screen mode was back to normal; but the first thing that happened was that when I went to type my password I couldn't type using the keyboard so I had to use the easy access on screen keyboard using my mouse. Even with windows up and running the keyboard simply won't function, in desperation I tried a couple more restore points and none them worked. I used the F8 KEY with keyboard to get into safe mode and this worked but as soon as the password is needed the keyboard does not work and even in safe mode it's not there.but the keyboard obviously functions since I can use it F8 mode; now the latest thing is that any system restore points fail.In F8 mode selection I notice that there is the option of Computer Repair but if I take this route does this mean that all my software will be removed?

My computer, about every 20 minutes, stops working and I get the message Internet Explorer cannot find the site. When I run a diagnostic, it says that my wireless internet adaptor has dropped the connection to the internet.I have checked if I am connected to the rooter and if a cable is bad. I have Norton and PC cleaner. It's not any kind of crimeware. This started after I had set up the wireless connection. It had worked well for about four months and then it started doing this. There is another laptop in the house and their wireless internet connection is fine.

i have a problem with my USB under windows 7 64 bit. Whenever i seem to do any intense activity that is using USB the USB ports stop working. When i say intense activity, i mean copying over a large file to a jump drive or external drive, burning a DVD on external DVD drive, etc. My game controllers, mouse, and Mic headset all work fine and don't cause the USB to malfunction.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. i have reinstalled my motherboard drivers and aside from that i have no clue what else to do. I did not have this problem under XP.

I upgraded my Acer Aspire 5672 from win xp to Windows 7 hm prem 32bit. I realised that the keybd and touchpad fails to function when I have the battery unit installed, but they work fine as soon as I remove it. Before the upgrade, I run the microsoft upgrade advisor program and it did not flag the battery. Secondly, I dual boot with ubuntu 12.04 and the keybd and touchpad works well in the ubuntu platform except that it receive very minimal charge. The laptop runs on the minimally charged battery for a short period.

I am considering installing Windows 7 Professional on a Macbook Pro using Bootcamp and partitioning the hard drive. I understand that when you do that your computer is then prone to viruses. But I was wondering, if you get a virus using Windows 7 on a Mac, does it only effect the Windows Partition or does it effect the whole Hard Drive?

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate?I ran ESet security and it found and deleted two infections in Appdata/roaming - (I noted that it was reading trial mode at the bottom of the windows screen which I never noticed before but at least that was when it was still functioning. I restarted the computer, was welcomed by the Asus menu screen first and then when it goes to load windows, it says "loading windows files" and then goes to the automatic repair feature. It says corrupt file in problem details and proceeds to conclude that it can't fix it. In the advanced features, I have tried the startup repair with no luck, the system restore with no luck - tried all restore points listed and after many many 30 min intervals, it comes back that it cannot restore to the previous state. There are no disk images and no memory problems. Command Prompt will run (although one time it did not and simply shut down). I booted from DVD and tried repair from that with no more luck than before, however, did find it strange that when it looked for the windows installation it found one called windows and one called Microsoft Windows - same partition size, all details the same, not sure what's up with that.
I followed the info under Windows cannot start/.exe files cannot run forum up until ubunto is concerned something about the cd and usb running I can get it to make the mbr.bin file but can't get it to recognize the usb to put it on to check it out or the balance of what's next? Also, at the Automatic System repair it reads:
Startuprepairoffline
6.1.7600.16385
6.1.7600.16385
unknown
212009913
autofailover
13
corruptfile
1033 locale 1D
It doesn't identify an actual corrupt file name it says it can't determine the root of the problem.Tried to run Windows 7 upgrade from the disk but because I'm not in windows that won't work and also because I'm running SP1 and I don't have the disk for SP1.I've downloaded Unetbootin and Ubontu but don't know how to work them to get things fixed I've also tried unloading the windows update cache but still nothing because prior to this problem it was failing on all windows updates and have noticed other people comment that that was their problem - still no luck.

So here is my issue. Was given a laptop recently, Pavilion g4, it has win7 home premium 64. I have a virus that has made it so I cannot make backup restore discs, system restore or anything. I was told to reformat my harddrive and fresh install win7 on there and that would correct the issue. But, no copy of win7 is in my possession.

I've never had this problem before, but since yesterday I've been encountering these blue screens.Should I just reformat? Is my RAM defective? Is it another program or virus causing this to happen?

I have been having a problem with my browser and windows explore reverting back to the starting page/point. After some time of use, (sometimes this starts right away, sometimes it doesn't) when I am using iexplorer, whatever tab I am on, it starts clicking back wards through the previously visited pages until it comes to rest at my home page. If I click to one of the other open tabs, it does the same.I also have the windows sound "device disconnect" sounding every 30 seconds or so. I stared out resolving this problem in the virus forum but after working through that, it has been determined it is not an infection.
