I wonder, can I assign some of the RAM to the graphics card, so the graphics card will think its its own memory, and will use that along its own memory.
I am asking because I need like 70 MB more memory on the graphics card for GTA IV, so the textures will stop disappearing. I know this would most likely cause slowdown, but I wonder if its possible.
I dont have a great graphics card, and it is integrated into my motherboard and uses a percentage of my RAM. I was just wondering if it is possible to dedicate more of my RAM to my graphics since i never use all of it anyway? I know this sounds kind of stupid but my mind wanders on occasion.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Acer Aspire One that crashed and blew smoke out the power plug hole a few weeks ago. I had Windows 7 installed on it. Sent it to the factory. They replaced the motherboard, keyboard, LCD cable and HARD DRIVE........ S'ok didn't loose any data. Knew I'd just re-install all of the programs I had before. When I turned it on, found that they had installed VISTA with an "User owner" of ACER. After reading found out that it was better to upgrade to Windows 7 than do a clean install, so that's what I did. Works good, except it still has an "user owner" (don't know what else to call it) of ACER. I'm the administrator, but when I install some software it says it's registered to ACER. Is there someway to change that over to me or do I have to do a clean install?

I have a customer that wants to run his IP based printer from this VM using a software that is not Windows 7 supported. The software loaded perfectly. I just need to get a NIC to work so I can ping the printer at a static IP. I see a (Generic) Intel NIC in the Network Connections window on the VM, I can even ping the card when I set it up as static. But I cannot ping the IP printer from the VM. They are connected with a crossover cable and all works perfectly from 7 (i.e. pinging the printer) but on the VM I get timeouts. There are 2 NIC's on the physical 7 OS and both are functioning perfectly. Why do I not see a physical card on the VM? What do I have to do to get one of the two cards to talk to my IP printer from the VM?

If Im not mistaken, when I shutdown my virtual machine it will release the RAM that I assigned to it so that when Im back on my host machine it still has the 4 gig of RAM.

Let me start by saying this situation is on a Domain, and that I am using Windows 2011 SBS and Windows 7 clients.My server has a DHCP range of 192.x.x.150 to 192.x.x.199 - and all other I.P. addresses are static.On a workstation located at I.P. 192.x.x.13 I am seeing an address conflict.When I perform an "nbtstat -a 192.x.x.13" command from the server I am given the logical computer name of a staff members personal laptop.Investigation of the laptop reveals that it is set to DHCP, and clearly the address of 192.x.x.13 is outside of my servers DHCP scope, so this I.P. should never be assigned, let alone in duplicate.I Googled this topic before posting, and it was suggested that IPv6 could be having an adverse affect. I determined this because I performed a ping on the laptop and only got a MAC address back rather than an I.P. address.

My rig has a dock for an ssd drive that I will use as a backup image. when I initialize the ssd It asks "If" I would like to assign a path and drive letter. If I assign X or Z is win 7 gonna have hissy fits if that drive is not present at boot or if I put a different ssd in that dock ?

I frequently plug in new hard drives to the system using various USB to IDE or SATA adapters and now when I plug in a new hard drive with any of these USB adapters, it does not get a drive letter assigned to the volumes on the drive. If I go to Disk Management, the drives show up, and so do their partitions, and I can manually assign a drive letter to it, but this gets rather tedious. Any idea why it quit doing it automatically and how to get it to automatically assign drive letters once again?? I figured maybe it ran out of letters, so I went in the registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMMountedDevices and deleted all the remembered drive letter assignments in there, but that didn't help any.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use a lot of different usb hard drives in my shop. I have two basic enclosures, a generic one that uses pata drives on a usb 2.0 cable and an Apricon USB SATA 2.0 adapter.Suddenly when I plug in a new drive device manager does see the drive and installs it in device manager. I can see the drive in Disk Management but it has no drive letter assigned, and therefore doesn't show up in Computer. I can easily just assign a letter in Disk Management and the drive immediately becomes usable. However, I would like to get Windows 7 to resume automatically assigning a drive letter.
I have tried a program called USB DriveCleanup. What it appears to have done is remove all installations of prior USB drives and when I plug in a drive that has been in the machine previously it then goes thru the install again. Yet still no drive letter. I think the program is doing what would manually be done by going into safe mode and cleaning out all the entries that build up there that don't appear in normal mode, then removes them. Basically it seems like a shortcut to manually doing it.
I also tried a registry fix that essentially asked me to delete the upper and lower filters. This seems similiar to fix for CD/DVD drives that no longer appear in Computer. This fix also didn't work.I tried removing and reinstalling the chipset drivers. Still no go.Running Windows 7 Pro SP1, H55 chipset.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi am having a problem with my memory getting tied up / used up and not being able to access it again until i reboot.
machine: dell xps studio 8100
os: win 7,
processor: i7 2.8
ram: 16gb (max it will take)
video: ati radeon 5700 (running 3 monitors)
versions: as far as i know i am running current versions of everything, including video drivers, flash, chrome, etc. (i've tried running chrome with both the build in version of flash and the system version -haven't seen a difference)
browser: i nearly exclusively run chrome / canary with auto-updates so am at the latest builds.what seems to cause me to use up / run out of memory is after i play videos (Internet, netflix, etc.), the memory seems to get used, but is not returned to the system, even if the browser is closed and re-opened.right now for example things are working fine; i rebooted my system a couple hours ago (but have not played any videos). i have adobe lightroom running, picasa, chrome and canary (currently 4 web browser windows open with 52 tabs open). task manager currently shows me using 8.20gb of ram, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
normally my system will keep running properly (if a program is closed, memory is freed up) right up until i start to play any videos (Internet, netflix, etc.) then it will start using up more memory. (of course i expect it to use more memory during playback) however, even if i restart the browser, the memory does not get freed back up. for example, just prior to the reboot, with everything closed, i was using right around 8gb of ram. once i rebooted, i was using 1.something gb of ram prior to opening any programs.however, once i start playing some videos, i never seem to be able to get my ram freed back up again unless i reboot the whole system. this is not just a problem with how much memory the system shows as being available, i frequently actually run out of memory. (task manager will show me as using around 15gb and then everything starts swapping out like crazy).
I find that if I run chkdsk and watch the memory usage in task manager it jumps by about 50MB every 2 seconds or so until it either finishes or hits around 3.2GB at which point my physical memory shows 99% used (I'm running 4GB), and the system of course slows to a crawl.f you just run a quick chkdsk on your boot drive you may not notice it, but try running something longer like chkdsk /r on a flash drive or chkdsk /f on a bigger internal drive (but not your OS drive as this would require a reboot) and watch the memory usage climb. I have duplicated this on both systems I have running Windows 7. My XP machine (checking the same USB flash drive) uses a much more normal amount of memory for chkdsk (20 - 30 MB).
