I cant run any 32bit exe. I can run sfc /scannow and I can run any virus software. When my computer boots it says that all my startup 32 bit programs have crashed and I cant open anything unless it is 64 bit. Again I cant run virus software unless it is only 64 bit and I cant run sfc /scannow. It stops at 10%. want to do a system restore or factory reset both of which I dont think will fix this anyway and I dont have the windows 7 cd.

I am in the process of trying to repair/reinstall Windows 7 32 bit home premium after a crash that has disabled my laptop. The computer has no longer booted properly after the crash occurred when I had to control+alt+delete out of a frozen screen. I do not feel the root of the problem is from a virus of any kind as I only visit mainstream websites and my virus protection/firefox has caught the very few instances I have ever run into. When it boots now, it starts normally showing the Toshiba logo then says "windows is loading files", then shows "microsoft corporation" with the moving green bar underneath and finally after a good while goes to windows 7 backdrop with nothing else showing but the mouse pointer.
I have tried a repair disc and booted from the DVD/CD drive to no avail. My system tools do come up for use but it will not boot into safe mode. It also shows no restore points. I did the memory diagnostic and nothing came of it. I have run startup repair several times and it just sits there running..the last time running it for 4 days straight continuous with no results. When the "System Recovery Options" box pops up searching for windows installs it shows a single Windows 7 install under the E: drive with partition size of 0 mb, but im almost certain my Windows is not under drive E:, but it does not find any other Windows installs though.
I am able to look around abit at the hard drive by clicking "load drivers" under the "System Recovery Options" and this is what it shows. 4 hard drives: "system reserved (c drive" 70.1mb free of 99mb "local disc (D drive does not show size or allow me to access it when i click on it "local disk (e drive same, does not show me size or allow me to access it. Boot (x drive 29.1mb free of 31.5mb Then (f drive Repair disc windows 7 64bit. About 8 months ago the computer crashed after my daughter changed some file type assignments and we had to reinstall Windows 7. The reinstall did take, but I do not think we formatted the drives properly with the reinstall and there were several different partitions on the hard drive.
After that install it would show PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, check cable/ PXE-MOF Exiting pxe rom when it would first boot, but it still booted properly and never had any other problems with the reinstall until now. Also windows would never allow me to do a "back up" after the reinstall. When I reinstall windows this time I want to get the partitions in proper order and make sure everything is working properly so im not in this situation without a backup again. I am hoping I have not lost the data on this computer and have been looking at buying a hard drive adapter so I can connect the laptops hard drive to my home pc and hopefully recover the data off the hard drive before reinstalling windows again. Is this an effective way of preserving any data on the hard drive before I reinstall?
Every time i try to print something from a program, that program crashes. (Any Office Product, Chrome, Firefox, Paint, etc). Any ideas?

EDIT: Now it's doing it constantly, and after some time, mouse and keyboard wont respond.also, when the crash starts, it sounds like usb being plugged in.
example: Playing Diablo III while talking with friends on mumble. The game suddenly freezes and I wait to see if it shoud come back, and it never does.So I press Ctrl-Alt-Del to close the program, and the status says "Not responding" I close the program and wait like 5-10 sec until I can see it's closed in "task manager" and i try to start the program again.This happens, the cursor shows that it's "thinking" for like 2-3 sec, then nothing happens. View 3 Replies View RelatedI can not open some programs in windows 7. This is a brand new Dell Laptop. I install all of these programs 4 days ago and they worked fine. Now when I try and open these same programs. I get the motion circular object as if the program is opening, however the programe never starts. If you click on the program again, each instance will appear in the task manager, but the program will not open. I have ran the compatiblity check on these apps.

View 9 Replies View Relatedim currently working on an assignment for university, so the faster I can come to a fix for this the better!I restarted my pc earlier, after I noticed the audio was slightly laggy, the same sort of lag one would get if they had a very high CPU utilisation and I've experienced it in the past when doing some 3d rendering, nothing horrible, just slightly echoy almost, you wouldnt really even notice it.Upon restarting I noticed there was a lack of programs starting, my antivirus didn't seem to load, and neither did firefox, steam, irc - i thought I must have a virus, and then none of my programs that I would normally scan for malware would open - antimalwarebytes, adaware etcI did however notice that ventrilo would open and a few other selective programs, it appears that only 64bit programs are opening, I googled this and came accross a thread on these very forums, stating something about xonar soundcard drivers causing this - I do have an asus xonar d2, and it seemed to point towards this being the problem, I uninstalled the drivers, but the problem is persisting.I have already tried a system restore twice to no avail, ive had this install since about june 2010, with absolutely no problems until now, I really really don't want to reformat, but will have to soon unless I can find a solution

Today, something strange was happening with IE8, where google results would open in some weird redirect program. So, I installed Adaware Free edition. I already had Spybot S&D installed, so I ran a full AVG scan, a full Adaware scan, and a full S&D scan.
I found a few Pieces of malware, which Spybot fixed. adaware and AVG found nothing.
Everything was fine, until I rebooted this evening. Upon rebooting, i got a brief 'adaware startup scan' thing, and removed some file inside my Diablo II directory.
Upon reboot, nothing loaded- no AVG, nothing. I researched for about 4 hours, and found one guy who had some incompatibility issue with AVG and S&D... I then found that i couldn't open the Uninstall Programs link!
I tried it in safe mode, but nothing would uninstall. I deleted the folders, as much as I could, then deleted all Lavasoft registry entires.
Didn't change anything! I have a chkdsk /f /s running, and will let you all know if it works.
Will Windows 7 Professional 32bit run 16bit DOS programs? I have the 64-bit OS installed but it will only run 16-bit apps under XP emulation. I notice that my retail Windows 7 box includes a DVD of the 32-bit OS.

In particular, 32 bit programs will inexplicably crash at random times, and when they do, they often all crash at the same time. For example, Steam, windows media player, uTorrent, and Firefox all crashed at the exact same time a few days ago, and several other simultaneous crashes have happened since. IE8, which has to run in 32bit mode for college related applications, crashes frequently as well, and has nearly compromised my work on several occasions.
I've tried recreating it, but I can't. The only thing they have in common is that they are all 32 bit programs, even things widows photo gallery(which is 32bit) crash randomly.
I am a trainer and my programs over the years have been created in 16 & 32 bit programs. When I bought my new laptop, I bought the updated programs to go with 64-bit. However, they will not pull my training files that are in 16 and 32 bit. What do I do to get the new laptop to accept my training programs and the created files?

I am trying to repair a 1.5 year-old HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. This machine is used as the main office computer in a small doctor's office. In spite of my warnings, anti-virus software was not installed until it was too lateThere was a major issue about seven months ago that required another company to repairThe problem is explorer.exe will not run. Double-clicking a shortcut on the desktop, clicking the text name of a program from the Start menu, and even in the cmd results in the same response, a dialog box pops up stating windows explorer has stopped working.
windows is checking for a solution to the problem. followed by another box stating windows explorer is restarting. But the requested application never starts. I have run the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win, replaced the hard drive and cloned all data, run numerous registry scans, malware scans and antivirus scans. Initially removing over 1500 virus/malware hits and over 1400 registry errors. But the main problem persists, explorer.exe won't open programs.
No matter how many times I launch Skype or iTunes, they just won't get added to the Start Menu's Recent Programs list.

I can no longer install programs or modify existing programs.According to the security permissions, I have none. View 9 Replies View RelatedEvery time I start up normally into Win7 everything is fine for a couple of minutes. I'll open a few programs, then after a few minutes of them running they'll hang and enter the 'not responding' mode. (firefox, steam, IE). If I don't already have task manager running the system will basically be unresponsive and the only thing I can do is reboot manually. If I have task manager running I can sometimes end a process or two but some will remain open & unresponsive. Any programs that are working (including task manager) disappear when I minimize them and no programs appear on the task bar, (though they can be retrieved with alt+tab).
McAfee also has 'real time scanning' permanently disabled.
This is all very strange as there was nothing wrong four days ago when I was away, and the symptoms occured within 2-3 minutes of booting up this evening. The system runs in safe mode.
