I went from windows XP to Windows 7 and have several program disc that I was using with Windows XP that I would like to install and use on my Windows 7. When I try to install them a small splash screen appears that says I am using a 64 bit system and this program will run on this computer. When I use "Run Older Programs on This computer option I enter windows XP as my old OS and it does not work do.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Alienware M17x with as many upgrades as I could have got. I use my computer for work, and i have to be up in 5.5 hours to get a lot of stuff done..
Today, something strange was happening with IE8, where google results would open in some weird redirect program. So, I installed Adaware Free edition. I already had Spybot S&D installed, so I ran a full AVG scan, a full Adaware scan, and a full S&D scan.
I found a few Pieces of malware, which Spybot fixed. adaware and AVG found nothing.
Everything was fine, until I rebooted this evening. Upon rebooting, i got a brief 'adaware startup scan' thing, and removed some file inside my Diablo II directory.
Upon reboot, nothing loaded- no AVG, nothing. I researched for about 4 hours, and found one guy who had some incompatibility issue with AVG and S&D... I then found that i couldn't open the Uninstall Programs link!
I tried it in safe mode, but nothing would uninstall. I deleted the folders, as much as I could, then deleted all Lavasoft registry entires.
Didn't change anything! I have a chkdsk /f /s running, and will let you all know if it works.
I have Win 7 that apparently only has a 32 bit system. I need to install a 64 bit program but get the message that the laptop won't support a 64 bit program.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just formatted my computer and after completion of my install of Windows 7 I noticed that it installed the 32-bit version, yet for the last year it has been running the 64-bit version!! I have no idea why it won't let me install the 64-bit version, I even tried another fresh install of Windows 7 but I got the same result. Thinking it was hardware, I ran the Windows Experience Index and then clicked "View details etc.." and it indeed did say that my system IS 64-bit capable!What am I doing wrong?? I just purchased a second Dell M6300 and cloned the hd using Acronis. The cloning is supposed to produce a bootable drive. My problem is that the M6300 I just purchased has a 64 bit processor. After installing the 32 bit cloned hd my 64 bit unit won't boot. I tried using the Windows repair utility but that could not fix the issue. I tried installing Windows 7 32bit software again but it won't allow me to install it without booting to windows as I want to keep the programs and data already on the hd. how to get my cloned 32 bit os to boot on a 64 bit computer?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHere's the thing, I'm trying to get my old Thrustmaster Tacticalboard game controller peripheral going again, problem is that it's a bit old by now, bought it in 2003.One of the things that are necessary for it to work is the driver package is supposed to install a virtual Thrustmaster Keyboard and Thrustmaster Mouse drivers during the installation, but this isn't happening for me.Drivers are 32bit, I'm running Win 7 64bit, drivers for this peripheral are no longer developed by Thrustmaster so there is no point askinasically Windows 7 installs it's default keyboard and mouse driver for this device and ignores the ones provided by the drivers package, which renders the device half-useless, keybinding isn't possible since the software doesn't see any device it's meant to modify, can't change any settings which isn't of any use for me since it's in need of pre-configuration to adjust it to your own individual needs/preferences.Is there any way I can enforce use of these drivers? Or enforce the installer to put it's own drivers to use just for this device?

When I download a program and try to install it, it says creating a Restore Point and sits there for a while. A long while. I have found that I can go into Safe Mode and install things with no problem, fast. Even after it is satisfied with the restore point and says it is installing, it will just sit there and drag on. View 10 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.
Ran F12 to regain Operating system - long version. Says computer passes everything but there's no operating system found. Did this Twice. Tried "Operating System" CD that came w/ Studio 17 laptop. Hit option to run via CD & never got anywhere after an hour. Tried Reinstall Hardware disk that came w/ laptop. It shows Vista, but laptop came w/ Windows 7. See where it shows the system's checking things out, but never get anywhere.

I think because , i had given "mark partition as active" option for one hard dive (E) in disk management when last time i opened. it did not have any data. i did not know, this will make any problem. I desided to hook up my old hard drive and It's telling me that it's corrupt, has a virus, I believe because the mother board doesn't recognize it I think.
