is it possible to update Windows 7 32bit to 64bit without the clean installation? if so;

- how to do it?

- how reliable it is?

reason is because I already have a lot of applications installed and configured in my machine and it will be time consuming to re-do the process from scratch.

Upgrade From 32bit To 64bit?

Dec 27, 2011

installing windows 7.In my college I have access to a free download, but I did not know how to put it in a pen-drive. So he just installed his own version which is 32bit.  I just need the home premium and having 32bit with 8gb ram doesn't make any sense. I downloaded my copy(home premium 64bit) but the computer doesn't let me install it. I've been reading and it seems that in order to install the 64bit I'll lose all my data(that doesn't matter 'cause I have none).

Upgrade Windows 7 32bit To 64bit?

Mar 20, 2011

Currently, I have Windows 7 32 bit installed on my Dell Studio 15 laptop. I originally had Windows Vista, but upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 32 bit for free during an event on my college campus. My laptop is however, 64 bit capable, so I'd like to upgrade to 64 bit. I realize this entails a clean install and I'm ok with that, however I have no idea of how to do that! I don't have any upgrade discs because the upgrade was done for me at the event. I have located my product key by downloading an application online that found it for me. Now, is there a (relatively) pain-free way for me to install Windows 7 64 bit on my capable computer, even though its 32 bit right now and I lack installation discs?

So to sum it all up, upgrade from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Windows 7 possible? My Vista cd-key is for Vista Home Premium

Using Upgrade Disks To Move From Vista 32bit To Windows 7 64bit

Sep 20, 2011

Although I'm presently running with Win 7 32bit I want to move to Win 7 64bit. I have the upgrade disks (both 32 & 64 bit) I purchased to upgrade from Vista. I now realise I'll have to re-install Vista before I can then try the Win 7 64bit upgrade. So far I've tried booting my machine with the Vista recovery disk I have from the OEM, and at the point of "install" (when it came to the point of re-installing Vista)swapped it for the Win 7 64bit. I then hit the buffers with the install procedure not recognizing the drivers for the CD/DVD drive ........ which I found has an enormous thread all by itself on this site.I do have 2 other external drives (J: and L: ) and a partition on the disk K:, for users and data; will I need to copy the contents of the disk to one of these ?? Has anyone any experience of using upgrade disks to move from Vista 32bit to Win 7 64bit? Will this difficulty with the unrecognized CD/DVD drive be a showstopper ? Can the upgrade from Vista 32bit to Win 7 64bit actually be done? Is there a tutorial for this type of upgrade?

Windows 7 Will Not Install 64bit On System, Only 32bit?

Jan 3, 2011

I just formatted my computer and after completion of my install of Windows 7 I noticed that it installed the 32-bit version, yet for the last year it has been running the 64-bit version!! I have no idea why it won't let me install the 64-bit version, I even tried another fresh install of Windows 7 but I got the same result. Thinking it was hardware, I ran the Windows Experience Index and then clicked "View details etc.." and it indeed did say that my system IS 64-bit capable! What am I doing wrong?? Or what am I not doing in order to reach the 64-bit install threshold?

Installing 32bit Drivers On 64bit System?

Dec 4, 2011

Here's the thing, I'm trying to get my old Thrustmaster Tacticalboard game controller peripheral going again, problem is that it's a bit old by now, bought it in 2003.One of the things that are necessary for it to work is the driver package is supposed to install a virtual Thrustmaster Keyboard and Thrustmaster Mouse drivers during the installation, but this isn't happening for me.Drivers are 32bit, I'm running Win 7 64bit, drivers for this peripheral are no longer developed by Thrustmaster so there is no point askinasically Windows 7 installs it's default keyboard and mouse driver for this device and ignores the ones provided by the drivers package, which renders the device half-useless, keybinding isn't possible since the software doesn't see any device it's meant to modify, can't change any settings which isn't of any use for me since it's in need of pre-configuration to adjust it to your own individual needs/preferences.Is there any way I can enforce use of these drivers? Or enforce the installer to put it's own drivers to use just for this device?

Using Cloned 32bit Windows 7 Hdd On A 64bit System?

Feb 23, 2012

I just purchased a second Dell M6300 and cloned the hd using Acronis. The cloning is supposed to produce a bootable drive. My problem is that the M6300 I just purchased has a 64 bit processor. After installing the 32 bit cloned hd my 64 bit unit won't boot. I tried using the Windows repair utility but that could not fix the issue. I tried installing Windows 7 32bit software again but it won't allow me to install it without booting to windows as I want to keep the programs and data already on the hd. how to get my cloned 32 bit os to boot on a 64 bit computer?

Win7 (32bit) To Win7 (64bit) Upgrade Install Error

Nov 8, 2009

I have purchased and downloaded both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows7 Professional (no CDs or media here only download version)

I sucessfully upgraded from Vista 32 to Windows 7 32

Then I upgraded my hard disk (140Gb 500GB) and RAM (3GB to to 4GB)

Now I would like to go from Windows 7 32bit to 64bit

When I try and run the Windows 7-P-retail-en-us.x64.exe file it upacks the box then stops with this error:"We are unable to create or save files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write flies and that that folder is not read only".

I am the System Admin and I have full rights, and have moved the exe and the setup box files to My Documentsand I have modified the directory properties/attributes but I still get the same error over and over.

I searched the posts and some people stated one needs a clean install others say you can upgrade from any version so I am trying the upgrade here especially since the upgrade from Vista 32 to Windows 7 32 was smooth and did require all the extra work of a reinstall.
