I've a problem with ALL my Windows 7 Laptop ini my office. We have 5 Laptop with Windows 7 installed in it. A week ago, everything is doing Normally. I make those 5 laptops join domain, and I make the user in domain as an administrator in their local Laptop. But in last Monday, everything going strange:
1. When I logging in using their account, I can enter the desktop. But when I try to access some programs that need Administrator Account, it become errors and said that I must administrator privilege to access this programs.
2. I try to access user account in control panel, and when I see the user list, it become BLANK. No user defined even an administrator too. When I try to add new user in it, it said that I didn't have Administrator privilege (again).
3. I try to logging in using Local Administrator, but in the log in menu, it said that the administrator account is disabled. How Come?
4. The only way I can access with administrator privilege is using the Domain Administrator. I try to configure again, and when I restart, everything has gone again.

My laptop crashed on shut down. When I turned it on again, it took me to system recovery and started reinstalling everthing. I left it to run overnight. In the morning, I was presented with a logon screen to select the users. There are two, one is administrator, the 2nd is "other user" (for new user I am guessing), if I click administrator, there is a problem that says "You have been locked out, contact your administrator" and if i click other user, it will make me type in username and password, but i have not created such thing. I then restart the system, it says "Preparing windows for first use" and brings me back to the logon screen again with the option of choosing the same users. In between all that, I remember coming across an error saying "please logon as administrator to complete installation". I can't logon as adminstrator as its been locked/disabled.
Laptop Info:
Sony Vaio i3
4gb ram, 500Gb HD
Windows 7 64bit Home Premium

Recently I started getting notifications and the such that said "Windows is not genuine." after letting a friend use my computer, I backed all my files up and re-installed Windows 7, but the drivers for the WLAN card didn't install correctly (probably because i had to borrow the boot disk from someone). So I used a friend's computer to download the drivers from HP, but after running the installation it opens for maybe a second (at least I can see the icon appear in the taskbar) and closes again. The model of my PC is HP 2000-299WM Notebook PC and is running windows 7.

I have created a task that is suppose to launch Goldmine every day at a set time. The task appears to have launched successfully, ie Task Scheduler reports "The operation completed successfully." However I know it isn't actually launching. When I run the task manually the application never launches, when I check Task Manager the gmw.exe process is running but the application never opens, nor does it show in the application tab of Task Manager but whenthe task completes (Goldmine is set to shut down after 5 minutes) the task then reports as stated above. The Actions tab is set to "Start a program" and the path is the UNC path to the exe on my GM server.Security options are "Run whether user is logged on or not" and "Run with highest priveleges", the user account is a Domain Admin.

I have an Inspiron N4010, and one night, it worked perfectly, and the next morning it wouldn't start. So I had to restore my PC to the factory image. Now, many programs on my computer crash only minutes, or even seconds, after executing them. I do not understand why. I have not deleted any files, I have not messed with anything, and I have kept my PC up to date, as well as protected. There is no reason for why my computer runs the way it does.

I decided to disable Avast Antivirus a week a go and start using Microsoft Security Essentials instead. That's when the problems started (which might be just correlation, not causation).
a) When I try to run an .exe file from Total Commander, I get "Error executing program".
b) When I try to run an .exe file from FreeCommander, I get "Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened."
I tried to change all internet settings to "Lowest security" (tried all - intranet, internet...) but problem remained.
c) StartSearch (which I usually use to run applications that don't have icons among the frequently used) doesn't find anything. For example, I type in "Photoshop" and all it finds are blank icons named "Programs" "Documents" "Control Panel" and "Pictures".
I tried fixing the file associations in registry (changing HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTexefileDefault to "%1" %*) but nothing changed. The only way I can run .exe files now is to locate them in Start Menu, locate them using Windows Explorer or via command line.
d) Windows Gadgets stopped being displayed properly.
I have no other clues what might be preventing .exe files from working properly.

I am making a shortcut for shutdown. So I am using command
shutdown -h for hibernate
shutdown -l for logoff
But whenever I use time for it, like:
shutdown -h -t 120
Where t 120 is number of secs after which the command will execute then the command doesn't executes. This command works fine for restart shutdown -s -t 120. I can use hibernate with time.

I'm already asking me a while wether it's possible to deactivate the annoying security warning ("Do you want to run this file") when I run exe files on my samba share.
I put various portable apps there and i want to use them as usual files on the local computer. Is that possible? I don't know exactly for what keywords i should search, so i didn't find anything yet. Thanks, best regards, kappen

A little background and info: I support a number of people who for one reason or another need to be able to do things a local admin can do like install programs and start services (or more accurately allow a program they're running to start a service). All users are in the local administrators group. The local admin account is enabled (and renamed) so that we as administrators have local access when the machine comes in for service. The machines are joined to a AD domain so that we can control a lot of the security via GPO. Everything worked fine in XP.
We are getting a few different "you do not have permission" errors. When the user tries to run OpenAFS (which starts a service) they get a "you do not have permission" error. There is no way around this error.
Also, when the users try to run Lotus Notes they get a "you do not have permission" error. When we go into compatibility mode and check the "run as administrator" (or just right click and "run as administrator) it works fine, but they have to click the elevated privileges. The program was installed while logged in as the user.
Again, all users are members of the local administrators group. When the local admin account logs in all these programs run fine. This behavior started in Vista and I chalked it up to "vista sucks". Windows 7 so far seems to be great, except that like in vista, members of the local administrators group are not really local administrators. How do I make them true local administrators?

I use an old XP app (JetToolbar - available at JetToolBar - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) and do not want to change but I cant make it work on Windows 7. The application installs and starts up just fine but it is not possible to drag icons/programs/files to the toolbar - I just get the 'no entry' sign (Circle with line through)However, the application runs fine when logged on to the hidden Administrator account. If I set up the application in the hidden Admin account and then log on as a normal admin user and run it from that account, the icons I set up are just not visible. So what do I have to change in my normal user account (member of administrators) to make this drag and drop work?I have tried 'Run as administrator' but that made no difference. Ive read about dropping to 'Run as User' apps from 'Run as Admin' apps but that's not the problem (at least problem occurs when app is run as user or run as admin)

I just finished putting together my computer, installed Windows 7 Pro 64 bits. However, both of my hard drives (one SSD, one regular HDD) are showing up as external drives (plug-and-play). If I click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon, I could actually "eject" both of my hard drives.

So I am helping a friend with her Live mail (Hotmail). I dont use it so you will have to forgive me. She forgot her password and it locked her out of the account. She has tried the passwords that she has written down and none of them work. We tried the forgot your password link and had it sent to an email of hers that no longer exists. Then tried to send it to her trusted PC but there is constantly an error code for some reason. Then I tried having it sent to another email address (mine) but I have to verify her Identity. the questions it asks are such as the last subjects sent, last addresses sent to, CC info, Xbox tag, she doesnt have Xbox, CC info on there, nor remembers last addresses sent to other than mine and one other one nor one last subject entry. When I tried sending it off the first time. Microsoft pushed it back saying "there is not enough information to verify identification" then I tried it a second time and it went through but it failed to send me her temporary password or anything. Is there a way I can get into her mail for her or a password cracker or something that I can help her get back into her email. She has been locked out for about 3 weeks now.

I just unpacked a new PC here at work and begun setting it up. I neglected to set a password for the default Administrator account and proceeded with the setup. Once I was at the desktop I connected the computer to the domain. At that point I logged off, switched over to my account on the domain. I started installing the programs which the employee required to do her job but because of the heightened security in Windows 7 I was not able to run any files as administrator. When I did try it said the Administrator account was disabled. I logged off my account and tried to log back into the Admin account and sure enough it's disabled.I've done searches in this forum and found similar problems but not quite like the one I am facing in that I never created a second account. So the only account that exists on this PC is the default administrator account which is locked out. I tried booting into safe mode and it still said the account was disabled. How can I resolve this issue?

I admit I did not do an exhaustive search but the issue I am facing is this.
When the screen locks, there is no option to log off the current user. All that is displayed is the password field for the currently logged in account.
I do have some GPO's running but didn't see anything that glared at me that I had removed it.
I am using the technet RTM x64 in our testing environment.

I was trying to allow other computers to interact on my small router network. As I walked through the steps, I was shown my password, which I wrote down. Now, when I try to reboot, I'm entirely locked out of my computer--the case sensitive password I so carefully wrote down doesn't work. As I say, I'm locked out of my computer. It's asking for some kind of change of password disk, which I don't have....

i use lockhunter to delete the file and just get another copy of it. however sometimes i have to make do and convert/edit it to make it a totally different file that works. this is sometimes time consuming.other info is that it always seems to be explorer.exe that locks the file or in the case of video files vlc.exe (even if ive not opened vlc player)

I have a dell inspiron with Windows 7 that I got from Walmart for christmas. It came with a walmart adminstrative account, a guest account, and another user account. I Changed the administrator username And password, kept the guest one, And deleted the third account--- all through the Walmart admin account. When I restarted my computer however, both the walmart admin And guest account were gone and only the third account with a required password (which I do not know) and a blank user account that requires a password remained.
There is no open guest account. I Tried to use the previous walmart username password And the new one I created and neither work. Now I am locked out of my own laptop. I tried booting in safe mode but I still needed the aforementioned password..perhaps I did it incorrectly?
I would like to solve this without having to reinstall windows 7 os (but would like to know how to do that just in case). Let me know if any other information is needed in your assessment.

I ran a boot and run virus scanner (bit defender) and it found a few things. I still can't get in to windows.

I've had my computer and it's been blue-screening and locking up for months now. I've tried updating my drivers, and that helped reduce the crashing. It locked up earlier today, and all that was running was Opera, a game(Creatures 3), and an editor for that game. In most crashes Opera has been running, but it runs fine with most of my games, and on its own. Plus I've used Opera on my laptop for years now. I also don't overclock it.
