Drag & Drop Works For Hidden Administrator But Not For Administrator User?

Feb 14, 2011

I use an old XP app (JetToolbar - available at JetToolBar - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) and do not want to change but I cant make it work on Windows 7. The application installs and starts up just fine but it is not possible to drag icons/programs/files to the toolbar - I just get the 'no entry' sign (Circle with line through)However, the application runs fine when logged on to the hidden Administrator account. If I set up the application in the hidden Admin account and then log on as a normal admin user and run it from that account, the icons I set up are just not visible. So what do I have to change in my normal user account (member of administrators) to make this drag and drop work?I have tried 'Run as administrator' but that made no difference. Ive read about dropping to 'Run as User' apps from 'Run as Admin' apps but that's not the problem (at least problem occurs when app is run as user or run as admin)

Logging Into Hidden Administrator Account?

Oct 26, 2009

I need to login into a hidden administrator account on Windows 7. There are a few complications.

1) The built-in administrator account is hidden, and as described below, I cannot elevate my privileges.
2) I created an administrator account, called "Secure," but it's completely invisible! By using an unsupported (and stupid) registry tweak, I have hidden the "Secure" account from view, such that even in UAC prompts, the "Secure" account isn't visible and I am unable to elevate my privileges. This means that I cannot get beyond any UAC prompt.

How can I either login or elevate to the hidden, built-in "Administrator" account or to the "Secure" administrator account that I created and then obscured through an unsupported registry hack? Note that I cannot undo my changes to the registry that obscured the "Secure" account because I can't run regedit with the necessary privileges. Note that due to my unsupported registry hacking, the "Secure" account does not appear on the login screen that displays at startup. I cannot login to the "Secure" account by selecting "Switch User."

I cannot find any way to access a Username/Password login prompt anywhere in Windows 7. I could login to the "Secure" account, if only I could access a username/password login prompt. I know the password for the "Secure" account -- I created it, after all! I cannot run a command prompt with administrator privileges. I even booted into Safe Mode, but that does not give me the option to login to the "Secure" account, either!

To get a prompt that includes a username and password field from within Windows 7 -- even in a Standard (non-Administrator) account follow these steps.
1. While holding down the Shift key, right-click the program you want to run.
2. Select "Run as a different user."
3. Type the username and password of the account.

This will not work for disabled user accounts, like the built-in Administrator account. To use the built-in Administrator account, you first have to enable it. This does work for hidden (but still enabled) user accounts. This will allow you to run a program as though you were a different user.

Why Doesn't Local Administrator Group Have Full Administrator Rights

Feb 22, 2010

A little background and info: I support a number of people who for one reason or another need to be able to do things a local admin can do like install programs and start services (or more accurately allow a program they're running to start a service). All users are in the local administrators group. The local admin account is enabled (and renamed) so that we as administrators have local access when the machine comes in for service. The machines are joined to a AD domain so that we can control a lot of the security via GPO. Everything worked fine in XP.

We are getting a few different "you do not have permission" errors. When the user tries to run OpenAFS (which starts a service) they get a "you do not have permission" error. There is no way around this error.

Also, when the users try to run Lotus Notes they get a "you do not have permission" error. When we go into compatibility mode and check the "run as administrator" (or just right click and "run as administrator) it works fine, but they have to click the elevated privileges. The program was installed while logged in as the user.

Again, all users are members of the local administrators group. When the local admin account logs in all these programs run fine. This behavior started in Vista and I chalked it up to "vista sucks". Windows 7 so far seems to be great, except that like in vista, members of the local administrators group are not really local administrators. How do I make them true local administrators?

User Administrator Accounts?

Recently I deleted an account that seemed to be automatic with Windows 7. It was not one that myself or my husband set up, but on that seemed to be administrator-type. I don't recall if it required a password. Anyway, I had no idea what it was for so I deleted it. Since then, I have noticed that windows is not working as well and I have a lot of issues with different webpages (even popular ones like Google & Facebook).Any idea what it was and how to get it back

Cannot Delete Administrator User Account

Jun 25, 2011

I am currently unable to delete my old Administrator user account on my Win 7 PC. I log onto my new Admin account and go to the Control Panel and then to add or remove user accounts. I select the old account select delete, and then confirm. It does not let me do this. However, oddly there is no error message, it just sends me back to the page I was on previously and the account is still there. I also cannot demote it to a standard user account.

Switching From Administrator To Standard User

May 14, 2011

I have Windows 7 Professional x64. There are three user accounts: Daddy - Administrator...this is my account; Child - Standard User; and Visitor - Standard User. (These are not the accounts' real names.)

I really should be a Standard User for day-to-day computing. There are two ways I could go about doing this, and my question is: Which way is better? Daddy will continue to be an Administrator. I will create a new Standard User account for myself. Daddy will transfer all my documents, pictures, music, etc. to my new user account; or I will create a new Administrator account and then demote Daddy to a Standard User. Are there particular pros and cons to these methods, or does it not really matter?

One thing I wonder about is that I have used the Daddy account to install certain software 'for this user only' (i.e., Daddy) . I did this for software that needs Administrator permissions and rights, such as my antivirus software. Will a new Administrator account automatically have this software installed, or will it have to re-install this software?

User Accounts Administrator Change?

Dec 18, 2011

Okay so this is my problem; About two weeks ago my mother got to keep a laptop from work because she was moving schools and it was "outdated".It was on a school domain so it had her login from the schools. At the login page all i had to do was type "name.name" and the password and that was fine. She did not use the laptop anymore so she gave it to me.Even though she was a administrator i was getting sick of logining in as her all the time so i tried to create a new account. I want in to controle pannel and tried to make one but it came up with domain and user name. i tried to create a account but it was saying the rustrelationship with this domain and Lt-D-8JK12S. (the laptop) were denied.I went through another way to create a account through some workgroup thing , it worked. When i had to log on i would have to type Lt-D-8Qjk12Susername and password It only happened about two days ago that it started to have some problems.I could only log on to my account even though it had many different users in the laptops hard drive. it would say that i got my password wrong when i tried to type.the main problem is that i cant do anything because i am not an administrator and i kept being denied when trying making system changes and copy files on to a memory stick.

Cannot Add Or Remove User Accounts While Logged In As Administrator

Nov 24, 2011

For some reason I can no longer edit user account information. The following options do not work:

Add or Remove User Accounts
Create an Administrator Account
Create an Account
Create Standard User Account
Turn Guest Account On / Off

All the options appear, it's just when I click on them nothing happens?! I'm logged in as Administrator, I even unlocked the hidden Administrator account and am still running into the same issues. As far as answers go all I can find is the typical, "do a system restore", "reinstall Windows", crap like that. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64.
