i use lockhunter to delete the file and just get another copy of it. however sometimes i have to make do and convert/edit it to make it a totally different file that works. this is sometimes time consuming.other info is that it always seems to be explorer.exe that locks the file or in the case of video files vlc.exe (even if ive not opened vlc player)
A few days ago I picked up a particularly nasty trojan that began running ads in my desktop background - Just audio, but still annoying. I tried removing it using Malwarebytes and Spybot. Oddly enough, since then, I've had further problems. One is the browser redirects randomly to spam sites but the bigger one is I cannot access my documents (music, video etc...) or certain folders in cFor example, I have a folder on the c: drive called work. When I click on work, it comes up as totally empty - no files. When I right click it, however, I find there are 193 files at 3 gb. My document folders have also disappeared. When I go to windows / user I find by right clicking that there are hundreds of files at 40 or so gb but I cannot find any of them by searching or exploring. I have made sure all folders are on general view (ie: not just music / video etc) but this does nothing. I now just want to back up my files and blitz the PC with a full reinstall
Since yesterday I started moviemaking with tga and dem files but I downloaded twice a game and I needed/need it. It's located in C:Program Files (x86)CSS Fake fragscstrike.I can't see it, but I can open it and that only with programs and then I see a lock icon in the right up-corner. Here is a pic:
I have recently updated my hdd with a clean windows 7 install, but had the old one on a secondary hard disk as a back up. I now need to delete these files to save space on my data drive, but am unable to delete the system and windows files as they are owned by TrustedInstaller.
I discovered how to take ownership of these directories, but now the UAC is telling me that I need permission from myself to delete the files which I own!
Is there anyway to get round this without shipping out my data and doing a format, which I don't want to do as I always seem to miss something important..
I noticed my laptop being slow and so I checked the active processes. Found an unknown process dllhost.exe using a massive portion of CPU. A friend of mine managed to locate file and alter it so that it was restricted to only the admin of the machine (me), along with another file below it (dllhst3g) was worried that this was some sort of infection that went unnoticed by my antivirus software which at the time was Stop Sign. Since locking files computer worked faster but have been unable to scan computer for infections as Stop Sign couldnt be update for unknown reason. Since then have been infected with virus which stopped me getting to cmd tool, task manager and changed desktop background. Started laptop in Safe Mode with networking, got a copy of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which managed to find the problem and delete it. Then was advised to use Avast anti-virus and had no problems since. My main problem is that the 2 files are still locked off and I am wondering how important those processes are? Also, my primary concern is the sudden inability to perform administrator tasks. I am the only user on my laptop and am an administrator according to profile on Control Panel, but when trying to perform Microsoft Windows Update receive pop-up message saying: You need to provide administrator permission To complete this task, you need to log in as an administrator or ask an administrator to complete the task for you. One of the updates to be downloaded is Windows 7 Service Pack. gain admin privileges again and let me know how important the dllhost and dllhst3g files are and/or how to unlock them?

I decided to connect the xbox to my home network, but when I did so all of the shared files and folders got locked. Being locked I cannot watch the videos or play the music with manually unlocking them first. So is there a way to revert them back to their unlocked state? There has to be an easier way than manually doing it... because I have around 50GB of music... that would take an eternity. Here's a screenshot for reference: [URL].
i use BitLord to download random stuff anyways the Downloads Folder Shows up like this : Now when i open Nero up it shows this Weird thing is if i hover over the folder from normal window it says the Downloads folder is only 800mb (as it is only showing me one item) yet from Nero it says the folder is over 9 Gigs. Im set as Owner of the folder and i have all permissions set for me however i am still unable to see these files outside of nero and i don't know why. When i go and try to change the permissions on the folders (the locked ones) windows says the files/folders doesn't exist...
I used the right-click mouse button to select "share with nobody" on a personal file. It did not ask for a password or anything else to allow myself in. Now the file is locked and denied excess to myself. What is the procedures to undo this? This is a home computer and I was just trying the different things to do as I am new with my W7.
I recently noticed a whole bunch of random files on my C drive. They are a lot of "Eula" files, globdata, installres.dll files, and a "VC_RED" installer and rar file. When I bring my cursor over the installer it says something about C++ 2008 or something.
I recently bought a new laptop with widows 7. In transferring my files I noticed that windows seems to be erasing my .exe files. Not all .exe files, but a number of them. I can't seem to find a rhyme or a reason. Why this is happening and/or what I can do to stop it?
I have attached the collected dump files and perfmon report. Also included is a pic of the specific BSOD, and a screen dump of his system specs.- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? X64- the original installed OS on the system? yes it is- an OEM or full retail version? OEM- What is the age of system (hardware)? Less than 12 months- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) PreinstalledThere seemed to be some indication of ATI involvement in the crashes, so I have tried updating the ATI drivers, but the problem continues - perhaps once a week the system will freeze, mouse pointer can still be moved but nothing can be clicked onEventually it restarts with the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD.
I often get random BSOD's when copying files to an external USB device. I haven't been able to tell what's triggering them. It can be a large group of files or sometimes even smaller files, so don't know if it's related to file size Am unfamilar with troubleshooting BSOD's.
I have used the SF Diagnostic tool and attached the files, but there are not memory dump files as i have tried several times to enable them but the system never creates them. The crash happens randomly and is not associated with Game or any specific application. I am using Kaspersky Pure as antivirus and i am sure its not causing any problem as i have been using it on other systems and laptops.
The last BSOD seen was at around 10:00 this morning (may have been earlier as the machine was found with a blue screen...), the problem I have at the moment is that the PC is not creating dump files - I have checked the settings (screen shot included) but it still won't create them.I have uploaded the output of the utilities as per the 'BSOD Assistance' posting?

I get BSOD sometimes when playing Battlefield 3, sometimes I don't get it. I also get BSOD when transferring large files from external hard drives or from my internal network.
Been having some crashes. At first they occurred on start up. Claiming the computer wasn't properly shut down. Now today, the other crashes started, with the first happening out of nowhere, the second happening upon starting a video game. I've been without crashes for a while now, only having used my browser(Opera) and copying some files to an external hard drive. As well as the SF tool.I only have 2 dump files available. SF tool file should be in attachments, unless I made a mistake somewhere
I reformatted my computer multiple times, yet my computer seems to BSOD randomly. What happenes is that everything becomes unresponsive; cant alt+tab, cant ctrl+alt+del etc etc. everything freezes randomly... then boom, BSOD. its happened twice, with no apparent pattern. And then, when it restarts, it tries booting but then it goes into the boot selection screen and my SSD is nowhere to be found. I have to power off then power on again for it to boot up and log in.

I dont know if this is the right area or not, as i just joined, but it seems to be the best place. I recently bought a new computer, and now it will randomly shut down. Its also making loud pitch noises. That just started happening. I called tech support and they told me it was probably just the power supply. Before I send it in though, i want to make sure that is what is wrong. I dont know all to put on here.
- the original installed OS on the system? this is a built computer by myself. have had 64 bit forever on here
- an OEM or full retail version? oem
- What is the age of system (hardware)? memory is about 2 years old everything else is about 5 years old
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) os was installed a few months ago.attached is the info that was requested. these blue screens happen at completely random times. could be during boot up. could be just sitting in sleep and blue screen.
A couple weeks ago I started having random BSOD and restarts, I have researched several different solutions to no avail. At one point, I thought the problem was solved after restoring a restore point, however, the dreaded BSOD is back after a couple of days.
- Restored the earliest restore point - Ran chkdsk with no errors - Ran full scan AV (just in case) using MSSE. - Updated all Windows and drivers updates.
I believe this is related to a driver issue, however, I'm not sure which one.Attached is both the BSOD App and System Health data.
Basic specs:
- Windows 7 x64 - Original Install - OEM - System age: 6 months - OS install age: 6 months (not reinstalled)
So I am helping a friend with her Live mail (Hotmail). I dont use it so you will have to forgive me. She forgot her password and it locked her out of the account. She has tried the passwords that she has written down and none of them work. We tried the forgot your password link and had it sent to an email of hers that no longer exists. Then tried to send it to her trusted PC but there is constantly an error code for some reason. Then I tried having it sent to another email address (mine) but I have to verify her Identity. the questions it asks are such as the last subjects sent, last addresses sent to, CC info, Xbox tag, she doesnt have Xbox, CC info on there, nor remembers last addresses sent to other than mine and one other one nor one last subject entry. When I tried sending it off the first time. Microsoft pushed it back saying "there is not enough information to verify identification" then I tried it a second time and it went through but it failed to send me her temporary password or anything. Is there a way I can get into her mail for her or a password cracker or something that I can help her get back into her email. She has been locked out for about 3 weeks now.
I just unpacked a new PC here at work and begun setting it up. I neglected to set a password for the default Administrator account and proceeded with the setup. Once I was at the desktop I connected the computer to the domain. At that point I logged off, switched over to my account on the domain. I started installing the programs which the employee required to do her job but because of the heightened security in Windows 7 I was not able to run any files as administrator. When I did try it said the Administrator account was disabled. I logged off my account and tried to log back into the Admin account and sure enough it's disabled.I've done searches in this forum and found similar problems but not quite like the one I am facing in that I never created a second account. So the only account that exists on this PC is the default administrator account which is locked out. I tried booting into safe mode and it still said the account was disabled. How can I resolve this issue?
I admit I did not do an exhaustive search but the issue I am facing is this.
When the screen locks, there is no option to log off the current user. All that is displayed is the password field for the currently logged in account.
I do have some GPO's running but didn't see anything that glared at me that I had removed it.
I am using the technet RTM x64 in our testing environment.
ok so i put on a long password and i forget it and i didn't make a password reset disk and my account is the only one on the computer model fx6802-07c.
windows 7 os anyone know how i could reset the password only.
I was trying to allow other computers to interact on my small router network. As I walked through the steps, I was shown my password, which I wrote down. Now, when I try to reboot, I'm entirely locked out of my computer--the case sensitive password I so carefully wrote down doesn't work. As I say, I'm locked out of my computer. It's asking for some kind of change of password disk, which I don't have....
locked myself out of the C drive. When i click on the drive i get the message "location is not available , Cis not accessible, access is denied". When i right click on properties, security, continue , i get -"cant open access control editor. access is denied". When i right click properties, sharing, adv. settings i get 'your administrator has blocked you from running this program". I am still able to run programs which have icons on the desk top. I am unable to restore in normal or safe mode. hope someone can help .
I have managed to forget my windows 7 password, when I logon it just says my user account name, no admin account option is there.....is there anyway to get the admin account active without having to log on?
I have a dell inspiron with Windows 7 that I got from Walmart for christmas. It came with a walmart adminstrative account, a guest account, and another user account. I Changed the administrator username And password, kept the guest one, And deleted the third account--- all through the Walmart admin account. When I restarted my computer however, both the walmart admin And guest account were gone and only the third account with a required password (which I do not know) and a blank user account that requires a password remained.
There is no open guest account. I Tried to use the previous walmart username password And the new one I created and neither work. Now I am locked out of my own laptop. I tried booting in safe mode but I still needed the aforementioned password..perhaps I did it incorrectly?
I would like to solve this without having to reinstall windows 7 os (but would like to know how to do that just in case). Let me know if any other information is needed in your assessment.
