View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't know how, but my 13-yo daughter somehow managed to change the name of the Guest account on my notebook (running Win7 Home Premium) to "NomNomMonster" and give it administrator privileges. When I turn the Guest account off, the name shown reverts to "Guest", but when I turn it back on, the name is once again "NomNomMonster" and shows administrator privileges. how to restore the Guest account to its normal name and status?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been given a laptop to try and sort out. For some unknown reason the user account has changed from an administrator to a guest account. Tried logging on through safe mode but nobody knew the administrator password. I cleared the password and gained access to the system via safe mode. When trying to access the system via admin normally the admin account was not activated.
So safe mode again and reactivated it finally got into the system in normal mode but now the user that was guest that i want to make admin again con not be found. If i go looking in the users folder there user name and folder is there. If I try to create a new user with the same user name the system will not let me. I need to get it back. How to achieve this?
I've been working on the administrator account for more than 2 years, left it as it was yesterday. When I came back my account was assigned with guest authorization instead of administrator's. While I was working on my administrator account I disabled Super Administrator account and therefore now I am unable to log into it. My little brother account is just another guest account. So as far as I know there are two guests accounts somehow, 0 administrator accounts, and 1 super administrator account which is disabled. How can I restore my account to its previous settings? (If I try to do anything which requires administrator's level authorization it asks for password but it never works, which means that it has been changed or i do not know where can I type it in).
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe computer (Notebook, Home Premium) had an option to press ctrl+alt+del to log in, and I wanted to change that, so I went to netplwiz and unclicked the option to require users to press ctrl+alt+del to log in.I restarted and then I realized after Flash player tried to update that the computer is telling me to enter an administrator password but there is no place to enter the password. After that, I also realized that the only user on the computer who is supposed to be the administrator, is shown as a guest account. While I was unclicking that option in netplwiz; I saw that the only user was defined as "boinc, administrator". I didn't much care about that at the time; could that boinc thing could be the reason for the only user being change to guest from administrator?I had to restore the computer like 2 weeks ago because of that (It is not a main computer, so it is not being used that much). How can I make sure that this 'guest' thing doesn't happen again when changing system settings? Is the 'boinc' thing the reason for this? Could it be another thing?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've a problem with ALL my Windows 7 Laptop ini my office. We have 5 Laptop with Windows 7 installed in it. A week ago, everything is doing Normally. I make those 5 laptops join domain, and I make the user in domain as an administrator in their local Laptop. But in last Monday, everything going strange:
1. When I logging in using their account, I can enter the desktop. But when I try to access some programs that need Administrator Account, it become errors and said that I must administrator privilege to access this programs.
2. I try to access user account in control panel, and when I see the user list, it become BLANK. No user defined even an administrator too. When I try to add new user in it, it said that I didn't have Administrator privilege (again).
3. I try to logging in using Local Administrator, but in the log in menu, it said that the administrator account is disabled. How Come?
4. The only way I can access with administrator privilege is using the Domain Administrator. I try to configure again, and when I restart, everything has gone again.
I'm hoping to teach Mum how to use my PC in the near future and she will only be using it for typing etc and maybe the internet. Also she only use it sometimes. shall I create a Limited User Account for her or turn on the Guest Account?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy friend and I share my laptop. Recently I found out that he was watching porn on my computer. So I promptly confronted him, and told him to stop. Weeks later, he did it again. So I downloaded Norton's Safety Minder to prevent it. So this sneaky prick goes around and enables the guest account, and lo and behold, porn fest again. What can I do? I don't want to keep him off the admin account, because he plays games on here, but I don't want him watching porn on my laptop either. Is there a way to put parental settings on the guest account? I know you can disable it, tried that, he just re-enables it, then disables it before he gets off. I'm really frustrated about this.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.
How to change a power user account to administrator account
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently logged onto my account about 2 days ago to finish a project. The music file I used for the account was could not be found and when I went to locate it I was told I didn't have administrator rights. I went to Control Panel because I was sure I was an Administrator, but sure enough, I was set as a Standard User. I tried changing it up but it wouldn't change. I tried changing the account name also, and it wouldn't change. I could only change account picture. I can't open UAC, I click it and it blinks but nothing opens. I deleted any recent program installations,I booted in safe mode, however I was still not able to change my account,I tried activating the hidden administrator account but I received an "access denied" message,I tried creating a new account but I received the following message:"The specified account name is not valid, because account names contain the following characters: /[]":;|<>=+,?*Please type a different name."I didn't use any of those characters in the account name.I ran 2 different virus scans, and they came up with nothing,I turned the computer off, unplugged everything, and pressed the power button for 30 seconds, and rebooted, but still nothing! My roommate shares this computer with me, and her account is still an administrator. However she has traveled and I haven't been able to get hold of her yet. We share music files and the file I was trying to use is in her account.why my account was changed and how I can change it back?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWell I have guests visiting and like to keep the PC private, have an enabled Guest Account.
When it recovers from Sleep mode, or in switch user mode, the logon icons appear, mine the Admin has a password and the Guest. But importantly when the machine boots, the users including guest don't show.
I'm attempting to set up a Windows 7 touchscreen (dell Inspiron One All-in-one) but I want to set it up with access via the guest accountI want to remove access to the control panel, to the "RUN" command and the command prompt. Are these available via the local security policy? I've tried going through it but haven't found an easy way to do what i'm doing. I've tried looking at tools like Ultimate Windows Tweaker and Winbubbles but these programs affect changes across all accounts and not a specific account.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did not see a hive with the .bak extension in the HKEY_USERS section. I am loathe to delete the user account and files since Guest is a special account.
p.s. I typically keep the Guest account disabled, but I do enable it once or twice a month.
Is it possible for me to set my guest account similar as my primary account but with several file or folder or software in my primary account, cant be access in my guest account? Means I still can install the new software, or application, and still can save new document or file in my guest account without been deleted after every time I shutdown and restart my laptop...is it possible for me to set my guest account like that?

I use chrome on my admin account and it works fine.
View 1 Replies View Relatednot sure this really belongs to the network forum, but in the absence of a "User account" forum and given that my issue is about the "net user" command, I figured I would post it here.
----
I have a very weird issue here.
I am trying to enable the guest account via command line and cannot get it to work.
I am using the command "net user guest /active:yes" on Windows 7 Ultimate (and before someone asks, yes I am using elevated administrator rights on the cmd window).
The command is accepted and completes successfully, but when I go see in the Control Panel User Accounts it still says the Guest Account is off.
- Trying on a full, original Windows 7 Ultimate install did not work either (initially I was on a vLited install and I thought it was because of that, but no, it doesn't work with a full install)
What's even more weird is that if I type "net user guest" and look at the info displayed it does show "Account Active Yes", but even after rebooting the Guest account is not displayed on the welcome screen and is still turned off in the Control Panel.
So, it appears it absolutely needs to be turned on via the GUI in the User Account Control Panel. If I turn it on via the control panel and type "net user guest" in a cmd window, the information displayed is exactly the same as before when I attempted to activate the guest account via command line, with one exception: via command line it showed "Last Logon Never" but when turning on the Guest account via Control Panel it shows a logon date after "Last Logon".
I also noticed that after having turned on the guest account via the Control Panel, entering "net user Guest /active:yes" (or /active:no) will work as intended (after rebooting), it just does not work the first time if the account was never activated at least once through the Control Panel. Anyone else can confirm this, and is there a workaround or known solution?
