View 3 RepliesI recently added a hard drive to my computer (SSD), and installed Windows 7 x64 onto it. The result being a dual boot system, which by default boots to the SSD, and optionally (by Windows Boot Menu), can be booted to the original drive (standard mechanical drive).
Initial setup went fine, however I decided to customize the Windows Boot Menu, so that logical names could be associated with each operating system instance. To do this I used EasyBCD and I altered the names in the Windows Boot Menu from: Quote:
Windows 7
Windows 7
to... Quote:
Windows 7 - SSD
Windows 7 - Standard Drive
Shortly after the modification I noticed that I was no longer able to boot into the original OS. Instead I was being presented with a "Repair Windows" option. Figuring that my EasyBCD "tampering" may have had something to do with the issue I decided to change the names back to "Windows 7" in the Windows Boot Menu. However doing so had no positive impact on boot up of the original OS.
After booting again into the original OS I accepted the "Repair Windows" option, and then left the computer over night to do it's "thing". After completion of the "Repair" the situation has deteriorated -
* Windows doesn't load (the same as before)
* Windows doesn't present a "Repair Windows" option (it did before)
* The computer reboots a short period after the "Starting Windows" screen is presented
As a side note the drive is in good health, and all data on it can be read from within Windows 7 when I boot to the SSD OS.

I have been dual booting for about 6 months now with no problems.I installed XP first and then Windows7.When I boot the computer it goes to Windows7.It gives me the option on the screen to choose other operating system which I do.All of a sudden I can't get into XP,it just stays a black screen. So I booted back to 7 and checked the boot menu and only Windows7 is listed, don't know why,it was working fine till now.Is there anyplace on the computer where I can get my original boot menu back.

View 21 Replies View RelatedI had to reboot my Windows XP (32 bit) After i downloaded NETFRAME 4.0. When i did, my pc hummed to life, but my monitor (A E19T6W) registered that my GTS 250 1024 MB Card was not reading. I check multipul times, looking at the graphics card as it runs. The fan works like it normaly does, but the display is not working. I am now running on my intergrated motherboard (Asus A8N-LA) Which is a Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE, and i do not know what to do. I tried removing the mobo battery for 5 minutes to reset the board, nothing. Ive tried to reinstall my drivers, That does not work. I Removed NETFRAME 4.0. That dose not even seam to help any. I do not hope it is a bad PCI slot, (had the motherboard for 3 years) but are there any suggestions available? [code]
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with my very new computer (Lenovo Y480 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit), which I've narrowed down to the following sequence:
1. I restored computer to original factory settings (to rule out possible causes)
2. I ran msconfig, and checked the boxes 'Safe Mode' and 'Networking.' I got the following error message:"System configuration cannot save the original boot configuration for later restoration. Boot changes will be reverted. The system cannot find the file specified"
3. The default boot option disappeared from the boot menu (Windows 7, default OS, current OS).
4. When I restarted my computer, it would not boot and gave me the error 0xc00034, stating that the file BootBCD was missing.
I did not do anything else with my computer after restoring the factory settings, and I did not connect to the internet. I originally encountered the problem when I wanted to try installing Windows updates in safe mode after some of the installations failed. I have replicated the error several times, including after successfully installing all Windows updates.
Cant access the boot for a acer
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy acer says that there may have been a harware or software removed...When I turn it on it goes to Acer screen, then to the page that says Lauche start up repair, or start normally....either on you hit, it does the same thing, it goes back to that screen, or stays on a black screen This started when it was knocked off an end table.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new ACER laptop, Win 7, around 2 weeks ago. I have only downloaded Minecraft and Microsoft Office on it..... Today I turned on my laptop and it showed the ACER logo, and froze with the loading bar 3/4s full. So I rebooted because I couldnt think of anything better to do.... and same thing, except it froze again, at 1/2 loading bar. So, getting frustrated, I rebooted a 3rd time, and pressed F2 for setup. Once again. Frozen. In resisting the temptation of picking up the laptop and tossing it at the nearest wall, I put in a freshly, properly burnt, Ubuntu LiveCD in. And it didn't even run that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBoot normally -- it hangs on "Starting Windows" animation forever. Boot safe mode -- it bluescreens.
Boot with a recovery CD (or try Repair Installation directly without a CD) -- it hangs on the green loading bar forever.
I dual-boot Ubuntu and can get into the Ubuntu partition fine so I don't think anything is necessarily wrong with the harddrive, but the Ubuntu partition is tiny and I rarely use it and can't access my Windows files anyway.
Is there anything I can try that'll help repair whatever happened? I just want to run a checkdisk utility or something similar that'll repair whatever got botched.
My laptop: Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS7740G-6816 Notebook Intel Core i5 480M(2.66GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
i have a practically brand new ACER ASPIRE 4553 (1 month old, max) and I was experiencing some reboot failures and also having problems turning the computer on, how's that? Well, for example when rebooting the computer it did not turn back on (kept a black screen, no sounds, in other words wasn't booting). So I manually turned it off by holding down the power button and then back on, sometimes it took a couple of tries to make it work but usually that did the job.
The same logic goes for powering it on form the start.. Now, at this moment the computer won't boot up at any means, not that I know of.I noticed that the HDD light isn't blinking at all, So I though that maybe for some reason the computer could not access the HDD, the other LED indicators (< is that correct?!) aren't blinking either, actually they blink just one time when I hit the power button and then stop. The power button stays on.So I did some research and found that it could be a BIOS problem, the solution I found is for the Acer Aspire One notebook, therefore I couldn't figure out a way to make that work on the 4553, didn't even try 'cause I know how risky messing with the BIOS is.
i have just bought an Acer Aspire laptop with Vista and i would like to install Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, i put the dvd in drive and tried hitting f11 and f10 but it just carries on going to vista, does anyone know how i can boot from dvd please?

View 1 Replies View RelatedNot sure if this is where I should post this or not. A friend brought me their Acer Aspire one, I have tried to get it to boot, but it takes forever, then it gives a hi-low-hi-low beep that sounds like the European sirens. I put Windows 7 on a usb drive and set it to boot from the usb, but it still won't boot. It once came up with a option to repair the Windows 7, but it sat there for 10 minutes doing nothing, then started with the beeps again.
