View 3 RepliesMe and some friend of mine are organizing a quiz competition in our colony. And so i need to put a timer in every other slide in the powerpoint presentation. I mean in one slide question will be given which will be shown for say 1 minute. then next slide will play which will contain the timer for say 30 sec then again next slide with a question and next slide after that with a timer. I know how to make a slide show with time interval in powerpoint but don't know how to insert the timer. In google search i am geting free timer with the minimum time interval of 1 minute but i need a timer with 30 sec. Is it possible to make?
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, recently, my computer has become very slow after I login. I type my password and start to login and it takes like 30 seconds to see the desktop. Is there a program out there that you would recommend that monitors all processes and applications that start (after login, not necessarily at bootup, if there is a difference)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need a timer on my computer that will lock users out of the internet for certain lengths of time (Like if the internet would just turn off every 20 minutes and stay off for 20 mins, that would be great!) I googled timers and found one program called "Enuff PC" and on their site they said they will not be updating their product anymore because windows 7 and windows vista now have capabilities to preform the same action..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my HP Pavilion p6580t and installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it. For some reason, the sleep timer isn't working. It won't put alseep the monitor, nor computer. If I manually put it to sleep it works, but won't off the timer. The only thing I updated was the graphics driver SP59747 and install TP Link wireless usb network stick on the computer. After installing, the sleep timer isn't working. It did seem to work before installing those 2 items.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt all started when I was using Revo/Uninstall to uninstall Office 2010 from my hard drive. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have installed a licensed copy of Office 2007 (Student Edition), which was working just fine. Revo identified 2 registry entries that I believed applied to 2010 that could be deleted as part of the uninstall procedure. I told it to delete the entries and then, having second thoughts, I canceled the uninstall. I saw, however, that the icon for Office 2010 had disappeared from my list of "All Programs" (although certain related Windows 2010 icons still remain.I attempted an "System Restore" only to find that the "System Restore" function for each of my hard drive partitions was set to "off." When I tried to turn them on, I got the following messsages.

Upon running powercfg -lastwake the system states that a particular process is responsible for setting a wake timer. further checking powercfg -waketimers confirms that there is a process that constantly sets up a wake timer.

oint of Sale 9.0qbpos.exe expires at 10:29:59 PM on 12/22/2010.
This process is set every hour from the running of the program. eg open at 9.29, it expires at 10.29. after 10.29 it will reset and expire at 11.29.
So there is no way I can put it to sleep for more than an hour. Checking task scheduler reveals nothing related. there is a way to permanently block this process from resisting sleep, I do not plan to prevent tasks from waking up Windows altogether, disabling it from power configuration .
About 8 months ago, I built a computer for myself;SINGLE Hard drive, 1 T;1 Partition..Windows 7 Home Premium service pack 1..The BIOS identifies the HDD..Last week, the computer worked properly, with regular shut down.3 or 4 days later, when the PC was turned on, it booted through the Windows 7 splash screen, but the log on screen did not appear. After a spontaneous reboot, the Windows 7 repair utility informed me that the situation could not be fixed. I selected advanced options and tried 2 different restore points from about a week before the last happy event. [code]

There is a System Image Restore Point Back Up dated 01/02/11, which i am unable to access. I receive an error message:-
"The selected Back Up could not be found. System Restore is looking for a restore point that is on your back up. Choose a different restore point."
I do not have any other restore points, is it possible that this restore point is causing the problem with System Restore
I recently bought Windows 7. Sometimes when I start my computer, the USB will not work at the login screen. No keyboard or mouse works. If I get past the login, windows finds all my external hd's and starts to scan them. I think this is a problem with the USB.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHere's the problem, when I boot up my genuine Windows 7 Ultimate DVD, and I get to the select partition screen and select one, it gives me the following error : Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occured while preparing the partition selected for installation. Error code: 0x80070057
I've tried what they outlined in this thread, [URL] When I get to formatting the drive in Command Prompt it just stalls at 0% and says diskpart has encountered an error; the parameter is incorrect. see the system event long for more information.
I've tried changing SATA to IDE instead of AHCI in bios.
I've tried using a recovery disk for my Acer 3830tg, but it just stalls at 0%. I've tried using a genuine Vista Ultimate DVD, but it doesn't even detect a disk drive. It's a Corsair Force Series 90GB SSD F90 in an Acer 3830tg-6412 with 8GB of RAM.
Oh the SSD works fine, I was able to boot it up and run everything fine prior to trying to do a fresh install, which in hindsight is stupid
my dad has a Asus x5DIJ but when he turns it on it goes straight to a blue screen and say an error has occured and then restarts. I've tried F8 and selected repair your computer but this took me to a black screen with a white bar along the bottom which said please wait loading I left this over night but nothing happened!

I have rebooted multiple times and still get the same error.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHave a HP desktop PC that is acting flaky (a small percentage of the time it hangs), but keeps generating msgs about the HD Imminent Failure. Also has corrupted some files I had. I did run ChkDsk, and it came back with the same message, after several hours of checking. So, I have backed up everything I could, but would at least try to fix if at all possible. Guess some of the sectors are now bad. Have a single CD that came with PC (about 3 yrs old now) that is labeled "HP System Repair Disc", Windows 7, 64 Bit.Would like to at least try it.
When opened, it has the following:
Files on the Disc:
- Boot
- Sources
- Boot Mgr.
To Be Written To Disc:
- Desktop
Is there anything herein that might correct the bad Sectors, or any other HD problem that is software and not hardware related?
I recently did a system restore late at night just so this problem would not happen (around 2am) with no weather and with my luck the power clips on and off. I use windows 7 home edition. When I start my computer it does not go to the login screen but shows a big bar at the bottom saying "windows loading files".I have tried several methods on the repair screen such as:
1) Trying all of the system restores which show it failed
2) Going to the command prompt and typing
diskpart
list volume (to get drive letter)
select volume D: (my drive letter)
detail volume (making sure readonly is off)
Then I typed chkdsk D: /f it went through steps 1-2 fine but at 3 it explains that it "failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50" System repair fails even with the disk in the computer, and I have no clue what to do.
I've been using win 7 ultimate (64bit) for almost week now. In that period I had one serious problem repeating 5 times if I'm not mistaken.
Message: "The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume Data."
Volume Data is logical drive. Lots of personal data is stored there using WindowsXp. As soon as I installed win 7 and tried to move some data from System partition to Data partition my PC started having these issues. I've run some diagnostic tools that win 7 offers and learned that Dirty Flag bit was raised on logical drive. I've run chkdsk utility along with checking bad sectors and problem was fixed but only for a day. Problem usually arises when I try storing data on that drive. Chkdisk fixes this but on very short period of time. PC is year old and in that period I have never experienced any kind of trouble with HDD.
This message keeps repeating : A fatal hardware error has occurred.
Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Unknown Error
Processor ID: 2
I have large amount of data stored on Data partition there for I'm not able to format that partition.
Well i thought that turning off the option for auto restart when a system failure occurs would be a good idea so i could see a blue screen of death so i could determine the problem with my computer but it did nothing. My computer still restarts whenever.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI work for a company that needs to send client data to an FTP server on a daily basis, with no intervention by the user. Before Windows 7, it was an easy task as we just supplied some FTP software, script and some timer software that installed itself as a new service. It worked really well. But now I'm in the situation where our clients are getting new PCs with Windows 7 loaded, and due to lack of admin rights/elevation, we're no longer able to install software. Worse still, I can't install the timer software as a service for the same reason, and Task Scheduler also needs Admin rights.I have half a solution which means supplying comms software that can literally be copied into a folder, and my testing has gone well, but I'm stuck with the timer software. Does anyone know of a standalone timer app that I could simply unzip and copy to a folder along with my comms software?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Sometimes, I start my system and, when it's fully up, click on an app (eg Firefox, Outlook, Word, Excel etc) in the taskbar as normal but sometimes they don't start - the timer shows then, after 5-10 secs, it stops & the app fails to open. None of them will open until I reboot. This seems to suggest a Windows, rather than installed SW, problem. It's happened on and off for some months now so I can't pin it back to some change in the past. How to diagnose - where would I dig out error reports for these events, if at all?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just turned on my laptop on and it wouldnt go past the "starting windows" logo. So I restarted my computer and it gave me an option to repair start up option and once the repair finished it said it has failed to solve the issue and it pop up a Windows System Recovery which is always good if I wanted to restore it to the factory state unfortunately I have about 30 GB more or less data on this laptop that is basically my life and wanted to retrieve the data.
It also gave me an option for command prompt so i went and run "chkdsk" it got to 49% and from there it kept on listing the entries on the disk and numbers that its got errors on, I didn't quiet finished the disk check and turned my laptop off. Reason being it was 4 AM in the morning. I have been using my laptop for over 2-3 years and by use I mean it has been online almost 80% of the time more or less.
Is it hard drive failure? If so is there a way I could retrieve any data from it? I know there are software that you can boot from CD or USB to salvage what ever data is left or readable, however the data is somewhat precious to me and dont want to do further damage. I would have gone to an professional and gave it to them but I can't afford it. I'm going to change the hard drive into a different laptop to check if its truely an hard drive problem related.
problem started within the last two weeks. PC just started boosting fan noise and then just blacked out. now each time i turned it on, it will give me 2 options prior loading system: 1) start-up repair - recommended, and 2) start windows normally. i've tried both but it just blacked out every time after a few seconds so i never got to the welcome screen.
i already tried these:1. replacing hard disk with one from broken PC and same problem as above. 2) corrected modem fan because it got fixed the wrong way by someone when they replaced the burned power supply. 3) re-seated the 2 ram sticks. 4) hooking hdd cable onto another slot on the motherboard.
maybe it is also important to note that pressing power button turns on the computer but the power-on light never even blinks or stay on except the hdd light which eventually goes out after a moment.
I have an Acer Aspire timeline computer I bought 2 years ago. This computer advertised great battery life, internal cooling, and all sorts of other cool things....unfortunately, it was all a lie. But enough about that, As of like 3 days ago, I noticed my computer would respond slowly and take forever to complete a shutdown. I thought nothing of it until I decided to scan it usingSuperAntiSpyware. It came back with 40 tracking cookies, which I deleted. Upon rebooting my computer, I noticed it was still running slowly. So I decided a system restore would be niceI tried the first availible restore date. That apparently failed. Then I tried several others, with no success. I kept getting error codes telling me that the system restore failed to extract the file. It said the disk failiure might have been caused by bad sectors....I have no idea what that means. Ive tried multiple restore dates, they all come back with the same message.
I do not have Norton on my computer ( I read this was part of the problem in many other machines with the same restore error, but just to make it clear, that is not part of the problem with my computer). I can only use my computer in safe mode, because the regular boot mode is wayy too slow and laggy. Also I have plenty space on my computer so it couldnt possibly be slowing down because its getting full or something.
Pretty much what happened is that my powersupply got messed up one day and just turned off my computer and I couldn't boot it back up. I ordered a new PSU and I installed it but now when I boot my computer I'm getting "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". I've tried putting in the installation disc and using the recovery options but my OS isn't listed/found and if I click load drivers I can clearly see both of my hard drives. I have already checked boot options as well. I was also using GRUB before this all happened as well because I installed ubuntu as a dualboot.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspirion laptop consistently makes a series of loud beeping sounds (5 beeps, 4 cycles) when starting up and sometimes continues at an almost inaudible level while in use. The beeps don't appear to be coming from the speakers. The machine is fairly new. I've tried to research this via Google couldn't find an explanation for the beep codes or a way to make it stop. I've run complete BIOS scans, checked for Malware, etc and the beeps continue.

Have a custom made desktop running 7 32bits on an Intel DG43NB board 4GB and a Q0650 processor.I recently acquired this machine for nothing and changed the thermals and did a good clean up and it has been running fine as my tester until last night when I booted it went to get a coffee came back to find a blank screen and the CPU fan running full tilt. Rebooted and the machine starts up then stops > three beeps > machine starts up again and runs full tilt again. There is no video - have tried the DVI and the AVG output out of the card and the mobo connections so I cannot get into BIOS to see if there is a problem there. Being three beeps I thought memory so change it for same - another brand - no differences.Took the CPU cooler off and powered on an the CPU started to get warm but not so much as one could not keep your finger on it. Reinstalled the CPU with AS and replaced the original RAM - no change.Has the mobo crashed for some reason or is there another thing I could check? Perhaps the PSU volts as my mate suggested?
