I have just reinstalled windows 7 pro on my PC, without formatting, because it wouldnt start up, but i needed to keep all the files on there. now i have it started up but i cant find my old user folders, although they must be here somewhere because of the 100gb or so showing up as full. how might i go about finding them? i have lots of work not to mention ALL my recent itunes purchases and hours worth of saved games. i assume they must be here somewhere but on windows i wouldnt know the 1st place to start looking.
Solution Needed: OLD machine was dying, bought a NEW WD 250GB HD, partitioned it into two 125GBs, installed it into an Ext Enclosure & SAVED ALL MY STUFF ... When I backed-up my files to ext HD, WinXP decided to use the WORTHLESS Windows_LDM format, which OF COURSE the new machine cannot see - recognize - acknowledge ... My APPLE sees it as a Windows_LDM Volume, but the G4 PPC MDD 10.4.11 can't do anything with it EITHER: I am NOT PLEASED: Where is the ANSWER FOR THIS?!?!Now running Win7 Ultimate (SP1)on a Compaq, AMD Athlon 64 3500+, 2.2GHz
I recently reinstalled my windows 7 professional on my laptop after it began behaving strangely. I had backed up most of my files but I realised there was one folder residing on my desktop which I had forgotten.
I was installing windows 7 on a mac. Complications arose and i just formatted the hard drive and installed windows. I just realized i left a few files on the mac side that I need. I know that you can recover stuff after deleting them as long as you dont overwrite the hard drive, the problem is, i partitioned it for windows. Can i still get those files back even tho i partitioned it?
Im trying to convert the hex data of some files and folders into notepad format but i dont know how to do it in the program i have Winhex. I have also learnt that this is called parsing... I have two images here of what i am trying to achieve.
It is sometimes required to convert a video or audio file to another format - for example if you want to use it in a Power Point slideshow where you need WAV audio files or you want to play a video downloaded from the internet for which you do not have the right codec. In those cases I suggest you use Format Factory. The program is very easy to use and you can convert in three simple steps.
Computer management -> Disk management -> attach VHD The VHD attaches fine, and it is the correct file. But when it attaches I get the message: "you need to format the disk in drive F: before you can use it. Do you want to format it?" I clicked cancel, and then tried to right click -> explore. I then got the message: "F: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."Out of all the tutorials I have read, the file should open just fine and let me explore it. Why is it asking me to format the disk? And is it safe to do so?The file system is listed as "RAW" and the status is "Healthy(primary partition)"I don't want to lose everything on the system image! Can I/should I format the disk?
Can I format a Hard Drive with Windows 7 using a 2000 format disk. If so, what are the prompts i see and action on boot-up before I use the format C. Done it before but just forgot
I have a SanDisk 16GB microSDHC Memory Card and it worked well all the time. Unfortunately, I formatted it yesterday and all the files are gone. I want to look for some free software to recover my files.

If I use a commercial software like Drive Scrubber to clean my HD, will a Win 7 Upgrade Discboot ? I want to eliminate any possible virus/malware. Is there any advantage to using commercial software to format, or is the reinstall format listed in the tutorials as effective? My concern is that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 (KIS) had corrupted data bases and after removal and reinstallation did not perform well. I could not download anything, e.g. CCleaner and received Certificate Error questions on certain websites. Also, I would like a fresh registry to insure previous programs like Chrome, Firefox, KIS, remnants are eliminated.
I have a few questions and one of them is, what is the difference between an unconditional format and a diskpart's Clean All in the command prompt. When I read their definitions online I don't know what they differ in.
I am giving Fedora (Ext4) the boot from my 150G VelociRaptor and replacing it with Windows 7.What is the difference between a 'Quick' format and a 'Full' format. Does a quick format simply rewrite the FAT and a full format write 0's to the sectors? The reason I ask, is that I am concerned that the Linux Ext4 formatting may leave artifacts which I can do without. So, bite the bullet and go the long route, have lunch and a nap or take the quick way out?
I have a Dell Inspiron 15. I can run Oblivion on my computer, but I can't run Fallout 3. It installs fine, but when I get to the starting menu and try to start a new game, it crashes.
I've got a 1gb Pendrive, used to work.. but it spewed up 'Corrupt files' errors, and then finally gave up completely. It won't open, and asks to format it, I've tried every option it gives me but it won't format.. Supposedly, it's got 0 bytes of space, but on Disk management, it's 969MB RAW format, but it's a healthy primary partition. Formatting isn't doing anything, so.. It's pretty important! I need the USB to flash my BIOS, which will then unlock my CPU settings (It's a modded BIOS Btw.) so I can Overclock my E6300. So.
I was just given a laptop running on windows 7 but it still has the previous owners files. I was wondering which is the best way about making the computer 'clean' as new. I dont have the Windows 7 installation CD. Can i 'format' the computer and just leave the operating system? and how do i do that?
