Is it possible to install Windows 7 (to a different hard drive/partition) by mounting the iso, but then not have it install a boot loader? Obviously you'd have to be using a pre-existing OS to be mounting the iso file, but I can't seem to think of a way for it to not install a boot loader.
I know it's possible to install and then afterwards remove all the boot loader stuff, but it's just a hassle to boot into the DVDs and do all the rebuildbcd or fixmbr stuff.
Also I am aware I could just burn the iso to DVD and install it from that in order to not get a bootloader, but I'd like to know if it's at all possible via mounting the iso.

I was wondering if there was a program to mount .img's in a virtual drive in Windows 7. There were several in XP that I used but I have learned there are a lot of compatibility issues in Windows 7. Is there one that any of you use?

I've done this before, but can't remember how to now. I have a folder which contains the contents of a CD. I'd like to run this cd without actually burning this img to a cd. I know there's away to use magiciso to run the files as if from a cd without requiring burning the image.

I have some ISOs where whenever I mount them and select "Play DVD" in the autoplay menu, an Error box comes up with the message "E:/ Application not found" This also happens if I doubleclick on the DVD or right-click and select play.
However, If I open Windows Media Player and access the DVD though it, the movie plays fine.
I don't now what I did to cause this, maybe when I took out my video card (but I don't know if the problem popped up at the same time). It use to work perfectly fine.

I have been trying to mount a NFS shared to my Windows 7, but every time I try: mount \serverfolder *It says: Network path not found (error 53) I check the server and folder names and they are fine, so do you have an idea what can be causing this problem?

I'm running Daemon Tools Lite, and have a conceptual problem. If I create a virtual disk, and then mount an .iso image of an OS on it, and then click on setup.exe to install the virtual OS, Windows 7 triggers a UAC warning.I don't understand why anything happening on the virtual disk would be subject to the host Windows 7's settings. It makes me fear that I'm not actually virtual, though the drive path certainly looked virtual.

I'm trying to mount a disk image so that I wont have to have the CD in to play a game.
I downloaded daemon lite but it tried to install a million bullshit things with it, and my computer was having a lot of hiccups until I uninstalled it. Is there a CLEAN program out there that can mount ISO files on W7 x64?
It's important that this be clean because it's my workstation.

I can however access the recovery image from the partition and have copied it to an external USB hard drive. Can anyone tell me how I can start the re-install from the recovery image now on the USB external HD. Can I somehow create some re-install DVDs from this recovery image?

SSD boot drive failed after just 5 weeks. It takes me an entire weekend(at least) to reinstall and reset everything. Not to mention lost saved passwords and some other important data that I did not get backed up which leads me to my question. Can I use my Last Windows Image backup to install on the new boot drive and if so how?

I'd like to create a backup image of a clean install of Windows + certain applications. My plan is this: Format my SSD that I am currently using. Install fresh windows 7, do all the updates, install a few choice applications, and then get an image of it to use for recovery. I have a few questions on this topic as well:
1. This is probably obvious, but I want to make sure; I can store the image wherever I like, correct? If I am using an SSD for my boot drive, I can image that, and store the image on a regular hard drive, right?
2. How big will the image be? Is it going to be as big as the entire drive that I back up? I cannot imagine how it would go any differently, but I am hoping for some unrealized magic.
3. Do I need to buy the Ghost software? If not, does it make imaging a whole lot easier to make it worth the price tag?
4. How arduous and time consuming is the actual recovery process?
p.s. Something I just thought of. I don't know how I would do the actual backup without an OS to interface with so maybe I could make the image contain everything except the basic install of windows to cut down on space and time. Is this feasible?

Just got a question regarding D2 - LOD expansion. Here's what happened, I downloaded the game, installed the game. All good then I mounted the Expansion image via Daemon Tools, had no success. It's not accepting / won't run the image and gave me an error. I got freaked out. System froze and there's nothing that I can do aside from pressing the "reset" button. Is my OS compatible to the game? I got a broken file on my OS (OS issues) or the image itself is corrupted?

With either of these two Products, if I create an Image will the Image "include" everything on the Partition? What I'm asking is, in the event I "delete" something from a Partition, and presuming the "deleted" item is not overwritten, will the "deleted" item be part of an Image created AND restorable by Windows or Acronis?

I am replacing an HDD with an SDD in my laptop.I have it partitioned the same way as the HDD except that D: is smaller.
system reserved, C:=system, D:=data-profiles-programs, E: =HP_TOOLS (fat32)
My plan was to image the system reserved, C: and E: partitions. The HDD is running in ACHI mode. What I want to know - When installing Windows 7, does it do something different on a SSD than a HDD such that imaging the HDD to the SDD will make a performance difference?

My Win7 HP x64 PC has two hard drives, each partitioned into two volumes:
My C: and E: drives are each half of a 200GB drive, both NTFS.
My D: and F: drives are each half of a newer, 1TB drive, both NTFS.
My F: drive has around 400GB of 'stuff' that I want to preserve.
I've been trying to migrate the win7 installation from C: to the first partition of the 1TB drive with two different tools (Norton Ghost and the built-in Windows backup utility) and both fail identically. The backup procedure itself appears to work in both cases.Restoring the backup to the first partition of the 1TB drive "works" in so much as I don't get any errors either way.Creating the requisite boot structures also work, as the O/S appears to be bootable. However, when the restored O/S makes it to the login screen, two flaws are evident:
1. The keyboard absolutely does not work.
2. If I log in on an account that doesn't need a keyboard (no password), I see "Loading desktop", then a few seconds "Logging out" and I'm back at the login screen.
If I look at the event viewer logs (booting up with the O/S on the smaller drive), I see numerous events like this:"The AVGIDSAgent service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.""The Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified."

I want to use a very simple unattend file to image Windows 7 and deploy with Ghost. My issue is that I need the install to PROMPT me for a computer name, THEN have it perform the Unattend Join to the Domain. I am hoping to only need the Specialize and OOBE passes, but if I need more fine - this is my only issue.
If I let it select a randam PC name, then it joins the domain fine, but if I take out the computer "Tags" which seem to be the only way to get it to prompt, it has already tried to join the domain unsuccessfully. Please advise.. All over the net people are having this problem.
I'm using the latest WAIK download. Here is my unattend file: THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP. I don't know why my file came out in backwards order, but I don't believe that matters, it still will do the specialize pass first.

I have a drive that was using PGP that has become damaged and will not boot despite trying 3 days of different fixes and repairs. I have a complete drive backup that will restore but when I try and boot after my PGP password I get 'Missing operating system'. Again I have tried decrypting and fixing but to no end.
I have another disk with a working and booting install of Windows 7 (same architecture etc) on. I have the entire contents of the non-booting system disk that I can access from the image of it.
If I booted into something like Windows Recovery or Live Linux environment, can I copy the entire contents of the non-working Windows 7 drive over the working one and expect it to work and then boot?

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.
The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.

I need a little help figuring this out. I made a backup image a while back on my network. Now that I want to re-image, I reboot as requested, wait for it to load, and Windows says it can't find my backup, "if it is on a network, close this window , type the network location."Putting in the network location does nothing, I'm just returned to the screen where it would list the backup image if it had found it, but there's nothing there.Thinking perhaps my NAS was the problem I copied the image onto a portable hard drive, but after rebooting into the restore program, Windows 7 doesn't find the USB drive.

I am attempting to create a backup image of my Windows 7 OS but when using the native Backup utility I only see a way to create an image with all of my files attached to the image when all I want is just a backup of just the barebones system. I lost my original Windows 7 Install disk so was hoping there was a way to get a copy of the OS since I just recently ordered an SSD. Basically I was hoping to move my OS install over to the SSD while keeping my files on my current HDD intact.

Not sure what happened, the netbook is supposed to come with a re-image recovery point, but maybe i accidentally deleted it. anyway, that's not going to happen and i can't reinstall cleanly with a format because it is win 7 starter so i do not have a cd. can i just delete my cookies, my files, and uninstall all of my programs and sell it? the thing i'm worried about is access to bank accounts or anything else similar i used the internet for.
