I have just reinstalled Vista Ultimate64 and for some very strange reason the D drive is listed as the system drive and the C drive is where Windows is isntalled (obviously). If I unplug the D drive while Windows is running it has no problems but if I restart it gives the boot error, please insert system disc. Plug D back in and it boots fine. My question is, is there anyway to fix this without having to reinstall Windows again?
View 4 RepliesI have three problems which result in the 0x80071a91 error message and seem to be related to transaction support/resource manager. I found several KB articles and comments in this and other forums and tried the various fixes - none work - each is a pre-SP1 fix. My Vista system is: Factory Installed Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 with all updates on Gateway 4 core processor and less than three months in use.
PROBLEMS:
1) Attempting to run Backup at the point where the settings are to be saved. KB 939615 - Cannot change the settings for a file backup operation or use the Windows Task Scheduler to change the defrag schedule in WIndows VIsta. Transaction Manager Fix - 0x80071a91 error. Recommended fix is: fsutil resource setautoreset true c:
2) Attempting to delete a task Transaction support within the specified file system resource manager is not started or was shutdown due to an error. (0x80071A91)
3) Attempting to link to on-line error message from the event viewer. Clicking on "on-line event" closes the event manager snap-in
Msesage: Unhandled Exception in Managed Code Snap-n - HRESULT 0x80071A19. "This snap-in performed a non-valid operation and has been unloaded- Exception type: Syustem.Runtime.Interop.Services.comexception - HRESULT 0x80071a91."
A fourth problem may or may not be related - when I try to start Wsearch (Windosw Indexing Services) it stops within 3-5 seconds with the error msgs - 0x80040d23, 0x8007007e (VSS) finally 0x80071a91.and Events ID 1008, 1015, 1004 and 1008.
Can (2) separate Contact Folders be set up in Widows Mail...
I would like to be able to have (2) separate folders with the ability to import addresses to each and be able to switch back and forth.
I've been using Windows live mail for some time now and I like it, it works great!! I've ad it set-up to read all in one place all my different e-mail accounts, I've got 3 hotmails, one g-mail and another different one. I just changed my Laptop, still got my old one as a back-up, and WLM was already installed on it and it's a newer version then what I ad, the latest version I think. I would like to know how can I import all my contacts, all my different e-mail accounts set-up, my save e-mails, etc without having to start all over again and enter everything manually, because I've got a lot of stuff in there.

This stops the side bar from running.When opening Windows Mail I also get a "Outlook Express Community Manager: WinMail.exe - Bad Image" alert followed by three other alerts. The computer is running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, service pack 2. I also use Norton 360 The Bad Image error alert for both Sidebar and Windows Mail is the same for both and reads:

Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software ventor for support.The cryptui.dll file in the system32 folder is 949 KB in size. I have found a new cryptui.dll file on the internet but it is only 500 KB in size which would suggest it is not the correct replacement. I have also tried to rename the original cryptui.dll file, but could not do this even in safe mode. I am not sure what or when this change happened.
I like SFC alot and it has solved a lot of problems I have had in the past with my Vistax64 machine. Latest problem is windows won't boot, can't restore, can't repair, can't safe mode, can't go to last known good... If i try to run SFC at the command prompt, i get a message that I have a pending repair, and need to reboot. However, since I cannot boot up into windows, this remains always. Is there a way to work via the command prompt to stop this pending repair, so that I can try the SFC to resolve problems I am experiencing?

There's plenty info about on how to do that. Now I'm going to separate all XP installs onto 1 PC, and all Vista installs onto another PC. Will this make life easier? So I'll be running Vista Home Premium twice on 1 PC. One install will be for production use, and the other for testing. I've not seen any info on doing this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently put together a new computer using these parts: I've updated to Vista Ultimate SP1, run multiple disk clean ups, defrags, use CCleaner, clean the registry, defrag the registry, disabled services and have made tweaks according to the guide provided on this website and have minimal startup programs running but my boot times average around 2 minutes. For a new computer with new hardware, this seems unreasonable as many users report boot times between 30-60 seconds. What could be wrong with my computer? On the vista loading screen with the green bar, it goes through about 22 cycles.

Welll I have an HP Pavillion m8100n TV PC and a couple of months ago the computer froze and I restarted it but it gave me an error saying there was a boot disk error and I had no idea what to do about itI recovered the computer but a week later same results and now I tried to install Home Premium again and it's giving me errors like:

I put together a new pc, and when I try to boot from my vista cd I get the error pfn_boot_corrupt right when it is done loading files and is ready to start setup. I did not reformat my old hdd before trying it on my new system. Could this be the cause of my error, even though I am booting from a cd? If so, is there a way to reformat from the bios, as I do not have windows or dos or anything else installed and working.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWell, I get the PXE-E61 error on my computer every once in a while; maybe 1/5 times I start it up, and when it does happen I usually have to restart about two or three times to get it to start up correctly. I 'm not sure if it's a huge problem, but I would really like to get rid of it altogether because it is kind of annoying. Nothing else is wrong with my computer. I know changing the boot order is supposed to get rid of this, and I was given a link and a suggestion, but my options are slightly different than the ones I found in the link. I had a nosey in the event logger and amongst the hundred of errors daily, the one mark BOOT ERROR, is this one.
no viruses, hard drives are defragged and check disked. for the record when she is on she is fine, no problems, just booting up and shutting down it starts playing up

I have an Emachine T3642 and I want to reinstall Vista on a seperate hard drive that what it originally came with. Windows was preinstalled and I've made the recovery disk. After I hooked up the second hard drive (new), I tried booting with the recovery disk as well as a Vista upgrade disk that I borrowed from a relative. The upgrade disk is 32-bit, which is what I need. It just gives me a boot error. I went to the emachine website and the only information I found to reinstall was use the disk it supposedly came with.

I ran windows update and the updates failed, I have sorted that out by stopping one update but now the computer wont boot without the vista disc being there. On start up everything is ok, it gets to verifying DMI datapool and I get a message something like File BootBCD - an error occured while attempting to read the boot config data ox000000f. I have run windows start up repair & this says it cant find a problem. I have used bootrec /scan and it returned 0 windows installs, /rebuild & Fixboot did nothing, I havent tried FixMbr cos I dont understand what that does and I dont want to make the problem worse - so long as I have the cd in I can ignore when it says press any key to boot from cd & it starts but why do I have to have the cd in? I tried one system restore but that made no difference, it seemed to say boot info wasnt part of the restore & I cant see anywhere to say I want that included but thats another question!

From Computer Management, Storage (in Vista) wanted to extend the Vista partition by creating a third partition from the XP partition, thought I could extend the Vista partition but couldn't. Then decided to put the unallocated partition back in XP partition (same session). When I re-booted got "Missing MBR" error message. Able to get Vista to boot again from off the install CD. But no more dual boot possible. AM able to see XP partition in Vista. How can I get back to being able to have the dual boot option?

I received an error: Error details: Code 57A. I tried multiple times to install, all with the same error. I did try downloading the update to my desktop, and install with the option "run as administrator...no luck. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

I have windows xp installed right now and I dual booted with vista by re-partitioning my hard drive. After encountering problems with vista I delted the vista partition and resized the xp partition back to it's original size. I am now stuck with the windows vista boot loader which persistantly telling me that the windows vista files are not present etc. etc. Is there any way that I can delted the vista bootloader and go back to using the xp bootloader?
